Can anyone enlighten me on how many countries are competing at this event. It will be great experience for them to compete with all the European Countries.

I am not sure what contries, but this is a break down of gymnasts,
16 years = 4 gymnasts
15 years = 7 gymnasts
14 years = 5 gymnasts
13 years = 19 gymnasts
12 years = 21 gymnasts
11 years = 20 gymnasts
10 years = 33 gymnasts
9 years = 36 gymnasts
There does'nt seem to be any competition for our girls.

Well how old are the girls in the Australian team?
Amelia, Georgia Rose and Angela are 15. Emma Jane is 14
So does this mean that Geogia,
Millie and Angela, are competing against 4 girls?
I think the 14 and 15 year olds compete as a group, so it will be
12 girls in that division.
Emma is tall that is why she looks
so good on beam and bars her long
limbs give her the most beautiful lines, and a big score of 14.5 on beam, well done Emma.

Why did we not sent any 9 - 13yrs old girls??
In answer to Anon May 26 - We did -Alex Eade 12 is travelling with the team.

I thought Alex went went her program, or is she part of the team. I am confused.
It isn't a very big turn out - I wonder why they chose this comp to send an Australian team to. However they are now reassured to do well. Good Luck to the girls.
So is Alex going as part of the aus team? If no then why are we not sending younger girls to this meet aswell? Maybe we need girls to be getting this o/s experience younger if we ever want to be really competitive on a international stage
Anon 1.49 - I definitely agree that we need to be sending our younger gymnasts to O/S competitions more frequently. We should be sending these younger gymnasts to smaller meets such as these ones, and trying to send over Jr/Snr teams to some of the bigger meets such as the world cups.
In a perfect world they probably would be but there's also the small issue of money.
Money for GA to fund teams, and money for parents to cough up on top of the thousands of dollars they have already invested in elite gymnastics.
It says on the GA website under WG Junior Aus team - Alex and Grace Claringbold from VHP will be competing and accompanied by coach Tracey
I do not think they are on the official team but the fact they are competing o/s is a great experience for these young girls.

I would imagine this comp would have cost GA quite a sum of money!!! Not sure the expense was worth it. Maybe GA need to be a bit more open minded and offer more girls the opportunity by providing some funding relief to gymnasts and their parents and not just send a selected few fully funded. I am sure many parents would like their girls to compete overseas. Also when they do maybe they should try and enter the girls in more than one comp. A long way to go for one days competition.
To be fair, last year this competition was attended by a lot of different countries, who sent decent gymnasts like Elizabeth Seitz, Maike Roll and Tatiana Solovyeva. GA had no way of knowing that this year the opposition wouldn't be as competitive.

The combination of international travel and competition is invaluable to our younger and less experienced athletes.
I, for one, commend GA on giving our athletes this opportunity!
I really don't understand people.
They criticise GA for not giving the girls enough international experience and then when they do they are criticised. I don't know what people want.
I agree that the girls need to be given international experience and I hope GA make more possibilities available to more gymnasts in the future.
The experience is invaluable and something our gymnasts need more of, to help them become competitive and able to deal with the stresses of travelling long distances.
I hope the girls do well, Emma Jane Nedov sounds like she is quite a star in the making, hope they get some footage of the comp.
To anon at 9.09 - why is this a waste - a waste to whom? How do you think GA should spend their money?
Money is usually allocated according to the type of funding it has come from and the outlines of the funding requirements. If GA don't have these opportunities then how do expect these girls to gain international experience and get their names out there - do you expect parents to pay to have their daughters represent Australia on top of the huge training fees they already pay?
