Lovely Milly!!

Great interview! I love everything about this girl. I especially like the comment about everyone being different in gymnastics, it's so true, different strengths, different routines. Love it!

Anonymous said...

Oh that is too cute~!

milldog you cutie

Maryanne is out of Comm Games with injury - poor girl will it ever end. Georgia Wheeler in

Anonymous said...

How do you know? What happened? More details....

Anonymous said...

It's on the GA website

Anonymous said...

GW in, only found out earlier this week. Mary Anne on crutches for 8 weeks.

Does anyone else find it weird that Georgia Wheeler seems to just 'fall' into these international assignments?
If you think about, 1st there was Aus vs. Japan she replaced Britt Greeley, Paris International she replaced Lauren and now she has replaced Mary-Anne in Comm. Games. These are major competitions and in my opinion her skills and her overall 'look' just isn't Commonwealth Games standard right now. Everything she does looks messy and definitely not on par with the likes of Lauren Mitchell or Georgia Bonora.

Anonymous said...

Will they name another reserve and who should it be?

Anonymous said...

I feel so sorry for Mary-Anne, after all those injuries...

The next reserve will probably be named at the upcoming camp.

Anonymous said...

OMG NO POOR MARYANNE! SHE DESERVED THIS HEAPS, AH I AM SO ANGRY :( i wish shona was still competing , then the comm games team would be acceptable ....

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else find it weird that people seem to like attacking GW for inane reasons? How dare she replace an injured gymnast. The nerve! Although I do agree that she needs a lot more polish there really isn't anyone else to choose from. Also I don't think anyone else on the team is on par with Lauren in terms of both execution and difficulty over 4 apparatus.

MAM continuesto be one of the unluckiest girls out there. I was hoping she would get her original skill named after her at worlds. I guess this means Larrissa will getthe remaining spot for worlds, I can't think of anyone else with decent D scores.

What a great personality Milly seems to have. She is able to have a laugh and seems very grounded. She has a very bright future indeed.

Anonymous said...

Well there is obviously a reason GW is being questioned? You don't see this sort of thing about anything else so it is not like everyone just chooses a new person to attack each week...

Anonymous said...

*anyone else

Anonymous said...

Poor Mary-Anne, I feel so bad for her.
Just good luck Georgia W after all that talk about her being misquoted in the leader article she is know going to Delhi.
I wish everyone would stp attaching Georgia W, I know she has consistency problems but she is 16 and I wish people would just give her chance.
I do hope Larrissa gets it together on bars before worlds becuase that would be Australia's weakest apparatus if she doesn't make the team.

Anonymous said...

I wonder is Shona is now kicking herself for retiring when she did.

Anonymous said...

Who are the possible options for reserve?

Anonymous said...

Anyone who's in the camp I guess

Anonymous said...

Shona would have been the best member of the team, I would be annoyed if I was her and GW was now going..

Anonymous said...

here we go again...

Anonymous said...

Hahaha anon. 6.41pm

And the slashing begins...

However, I do feel for poor Mary-Anne though :(

Anonymous said...

I don't think Georgia Wheeler is up to this.

Anonymous said...

Poor Mary Anne she deserved this WAY MORE!

Anonymous said...

Mary-anne 'deserved' it...but she was also alot more, 'up to it'

Anonymous said...

Regardless of the feelings that people are feeling, it is a done deal that GW is attending Comm Games. Lets look to the selected team and await results. For those who simply must past their time gymnastics chat, consider researching the teams from other countries and work out DD for each team and chat about what our chances are on paper. Because simply put: the standard of our team is only relevent in comparison to their competition. There is no china, no USA no Russia....so do the research and give an informed decision about our chances rather than continual punches at our gymnasts when they may actually not be warranted!

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why none of you believe Georgia doesn't deserve it. She trains like everyone else, she tries just as hard as everyone else.

The comments people make on this about other gymnasts that you barely know seem ridiculous, and I can tell you that the comments do affect the girls. Try stopping the harsh words and being supportive...maybe it could help her. I don't think she's feeling all that great about the situation either. She will do her best, there is no doubt about that.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6.46 I have to agree with you
I love GW and think she will be a good gymnast WITH A BIT MORE TIME. She is no where near ready to compete at such a major competition. I do really love her drive and determination but still.

Anonymous said...

There is nothing that can be done. Mary-Anne is injured, Shona made the decision to retire after she was only first reserve and now Georgia W is really the only option. She did win three apparatus medals at nationals so I don't think there is anyone better around that should be in the team. Remember it is only CWG with B teams from England and Canada, with three very experienced team members in Lauren, Georgia and Ashleigh.

Yeah... she was probably somewhere near the grassy knoll during the Kennedy assassination too... ;)

Injuries happen. Georgia wouldn't have been given such positions if the powers that be didn't regard her capabilities so highly, or didn't think she could handle being put in a lineup at late notice.

I have sent my best wishes to both Georgia and Maryanne. I've no doubt both will deal with the unexpected turn of events in a mature, glass-half-full manner.

Anonymous said...

so will Georgia Wheeler be competing anything harder than a layout yurchenko? That's the million dollar question.

A DTY would shut people up, and would be incredibly useful, because we need that on top of Lauren and Emily's vaults. I know she was hoping to do it, but she seems to keep doing easy vaults at every competition so we don't know what to expect really.

Also, she has the same bars DV as Mary-Anne so no loss there if she hits.

I think she fits well with Ashleigh so it's not all bad. With MaryAnne it was going to be harder to balance the team.

Lauren AA
Emily AA
Georgia AA
Ashleigh BB/FX
Georgia W VT/UB

I would hope that someone was looking into Mary-Anne's management at the AIS and the quality of the coaching because their gymnasts get injured an awful lot.

Mez said...

According to MLC website update...

"On vault Georgia has made some good improvements with her double twisting yurchenko, but this is certainly not ready for competition this year. This type of skill will take a long while to consolidate for competition readiness, and we are certainly not taking any risks at this stage in Georgia's development, but her sound improvement in the basics of this vault will certainly allow her a good platform for 2011."

ditto ditto anon 7.26
I was thinking the same. Surely something is going wrong with the AIS coaching that their gymnasts keep getting injured so much.
I wonder if it is technique problems or is it simply a case of a coach pushing gymnasts into skills they are clearly not ready to compete? Perhaps it is a good thing the AIS closing.
Anyone from the AIS at present or retired want to share their feelings?

Anonymous said...

I think this year will have to be a write-off. We are so terribly weak on bars and vault, it is just not going to happen, especially at worlds. Fingers crossed Larrissa can pull herself together, but I hear the prospects are not good.

Does anyone have any news on how the other girls are doing? Britt Greeley, Emma Dennis, in particular? They would be next in line for worlds. Do they ave anything to offer the team in their current condition?

Anonymous said...

Why are we having such trouble fielding a team that is competitive? Someones head should roll for this!

Anonymous said...

Brit has officially withdrawn also...

Anonymous said...

Hopefully Georgia W would at least have a FTY by CWG because from what we saw at nationals Ashleigh's Tsuk full needs some work.
At least there are some promising juniors.
I'm don't think what is happening is necessarily anyone's fault. you have to remember that there is not the depth in Australia that there is in other countries because the population is smaller and gymnastics is not amoungst the most popular sports. I still think the girls will do okay at CWG but as mentioned worlds could be a bit tricky but as long as they finish top 24 this year they will go through to next year.
It would be great to have someone who was a good performer on vault and bars but unfortunately for most of the girls either vault or bars is their weakest apparatus.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Emma Dennis can make worlds~! That would be awesome.

Anonymous said...

so wait...what's wrong with Larrissa? Is she injured too? Her bars should get her on without issues....

Anonymous said...

It would be great to see Emma in the Worlds team I think she really deserves to make a major team. With these injuries and with the stories that Larrissa is enjoying being 18 you would have to think she would be a chance. But unfortunately for Emma her lowest scoring apparatus at nationals was bars and it is probably a bar performer that Australia really needs at worlds but if she has improved on that apparatus then you never know.

Anonymous said...

No Larrissa is not injured but there was a post of WWGym about the fact that Larrissa turned 18 a while back and has been living it up so given the problems she was having at nationals she probably really needed to work hard to ensure her place on the worlds team.

Anonymous said...

Is Brit officially out as well!
Sophie has a decent vault and so does Natasha, Why don't they rate?
Does anyone know D score is a 1/2 TY?

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure Georgia is only competing a layout yurchenko at Comm Games. What a shame, seeing as she said she would be aiming for a DTY earlier this year. That would have made everyone believe she deserved her spot.

Anonymous said...

Would a layout Yurchenko with a difficulty of 4.4 get Georgia a vault spot ahead of Ashleigh's Tsuk 5.2. I know Ashleigh's vault still needs work but there is a 0.8difference in difficulty.
I don't want to be critical but how is Georgia W planning on competing a DTY next year when she is only doing layout Yurchenkos this year, thats a big step up.

Anonymous said...

It is a huge shame if Larrissa is throwing it all away so she can socialise. She is so valuable to the team, and has a huge chance of making 2012 Olympics if she keeps building her bars.

Anonymous said...

please god no, at least let Georgia compete a yurchenko layout. Otherwise that's just embarrassing on the international stage, and frankly, she shouldn't be on the team. There are level 7s in the USA competing harder vaults than that.

Anonymous said...

eta...i meant yurchenko full, not layout

Anonymous said...

Larrissa seemed a little unfocused for a while, not to mention suffering from recurring colds, but from what I've heard she's doing fine at the moment, so don't write her off yet. She's a beautiful gymnast when she hits.

Anonymous said...

Thats great that Larrissa seems to be more focused now and hopefully she has a good shot at making the worlds team because she will definitely improve Australia's bars if she does.
I am so glad to hear that Georgia is likely to compete an FTY and not a layout Yurchenko that is much better.

Anonymous said...

Sorry I miss read the posts I understand now that Georgia will likely to competing a layout Yurchenko, ignore the second half of the last post please.

Anonymous said...

yurchenko layout? seriously? that must be the worst vault we have ever had to put up in a world class meet.

Anonymous said...

Australia doesn't have this in the bag, that's for sure. England's B team will have probably a DTY and tsuk 1.5 in their lineup, plus King and Cairns are also great floor workers and steady AA. If anything else happens we are in real danger of losing the title.

Anonymous said...

Let's lay off the fact that wheeler doesnt have a DTY. How many do? But she has made some great upgrades and is looking awesome. Why don't we wish our girls the very best of luck in Delhi instead of saying how badly Australia will do. Thats not doing anyone any favours.

Anonymous said...

I am sure that everyone is hoping Australia will do well in Delhi, hoping that they will win a fourth straight title and they are still a chance to do that but this could easily be their toughest chalange and they are only facing a B team from England. I don't think anyone is being overly critical at this point, just facing facts. I am sure the girls will do the best that they can and we will be proud of them no matter what happens.
And also there is a big difference between a DTY and a layout Yurchenko 1.4 in D score. I think people are just surprised not even an FTY at CWG and she is planning on having at DTY next year.

Anonymous said...

I meant to say Georgia is only competing a layout Yurchenko.

Anonymous said...

Um, guys? If Georgia Wheeler is working on a double-twisting Yurchenko, chances are she has a pretty serviceable full-twisting Yurchenko or possibly even a 1.5. There's nothing embarrassing about either of those vaults. People have been known to win AA medals doing them, even in recent years. Don't assume Wheeler will be doing a layout Yurchenko because that's what she's been doing until now. She may pull out an upgrade when it counts.

Anonymous said...

OF course if Georgia performs an fty or a y1.5 then there is no problem and they are certainly not embarrasing. If was just that there was a post from someone who seemed to imply that they knew what they were talking about and they said she would be competing a layout Yurchenko.

Anonymous said...

georgia also has a handspring front pike...

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't being writing off the team - the British team that has been chosen seem to be quite weak in Bars and Beam and average on floor - going by our girls scores for this year we should still be on top of these girls

Anonymous said...

I don't think people are writing off the team I just think people think they are probably no certainty this time.
I think it could be worlds that will be the problem. I know Australia only has to finish top 24 but it would still be good to see them much better than that considering next year is going to be really tough, top 8 or face another qualification.

Anonymous said...

Georgia Wheeler’s FTY is not ready AT ALL to be put on the competition floor. From what I have seen of it lately she either lands on her side or head in 9/10 vaults. She will most likely be competing her Yurchenko Layout as well as the Handspring front pike.

Anonymous said...

if that's the case it would make much more sense for the last 2 worlds team members to be Larrissa and Emma. Emma can offer a good vault and solid routines on the 3 other events. Larrissa can offer a yurch full and awesome bars. I mean seriously, a layout yurchenko is not going anywhere near the lineup at worlds and you wouldn't trust her to perform well under pressure on beam or floor.

Anonymous said...

given Larrissa is better on both vault and bars, as long as she is not in a body cast there is absolutely no reason GW should be on the team ahead of her...

Anonymous said...

Has Georgia B got a DTY because if she has and Lauren and Emily have then it is more bar workers that we need and at least GW is capable of a 5.6D on bars - unfortunately Emma did not have a D score higher than 5.3 which was on B and hasn't managed anything higher than a 4.8 on floor - so unless she has made some major upgrades - there is no value there with the current team

Anonymous said...

I doubt Georgia B has got a DTY. I have never heard anything abouy her having one. She has not competed more than an FTY since she came back from ankle surgery. Someone commented that she still has trouble with her ankles so I wouldn't expect her to be able to produce more than a Y1.5 as it would probably just be too hard on her.

Anonymous said...

Even if you look at team scores from around other countries (as posted on wwgym) and you take our teams scores - you are probably looking at a 7 - 11 finish at worlds

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure Emma D has more up her sleeve and is building. She too has battled two fractures in her foot, the second requiring surgery to insert a screw. I guess we will have to wait and see what she can deliver.

Anonymous said...

People are talking like a handspring pike front is good... national level 8s do that vault. Its not too much to brag about. I also don't think a Layout Yurchenko is accebtable for worlds level but hopefully GW doesn't need to compete vault at worlds.. but we have a DTY (Little) maybe two (Mitchell), a Y1.5 (Bonora) and a full twisting tsuk (Brennan)- why should GW vault at all? Or is it 5-4-3?

Regardless of the vaults, I think Comm Games are ours should we have a clean comp- England and Canada are sending B teams, we just need Lauren to stick and think about some individual medals. In regards to worlds, we only have to make top 24! TWENTY FOUR! I don't think we could come 25th with our level 10 national girls! We need to concentrate on worlds next year where we need a top 8 finish, and if the upgrades spoken about are aiming to be competed next year- that's all that matters for the Olympics.

Its not the drama everyone has made it out to be..

Anonymous said...

I think there is a good chance Georgia W won't be vaulting at Comm Games given the 5-4-3 format. I assume that worlds is still 6-5-4in quals so there will have to be a fifth vaulter but there will also be a sixth member of that team and they may have a higher value vault so there won't really be a problem as mentioned.
I agree that it will hard for Australia to lose given England and Canada will be sending their B teams.
