I don't think that strengthening the NSW team was the priority of closing the AIS, it was about spreading the funding from an unsuccessful program around to all the successful ones. Lee, Warnock and Andrews went to a club in ACT (Woden Valley) as they were either from Canberra originally or probably their families are settled there now. They seem to be doing alright. The others went everywhere. I think Monkton even left her family to head to Vic. Big decision for a 16 year old I guess.
The problem in NSW can't be the coaches or the facilities, they have access to great facilities and coaches. I just don't get it! If clubs like MLC and MBC can flourish why can't others? Westfields was great in its day - what happened? I think Castle Hill and Epping seem to have started good programs but it doesn't seem to have come through at the top end (yet). They used to have an Institute but I think all the Clubs wanted to keep their girls to themselves and so it wasn't working too well. Works for the boys though (Prashanth, Jack Rickards etc).
The problem in NSW is that the coaches have no leadership--there appear to be no coaches who want to lead, no program managers who want to lead. no coaches with the passion to dedicate to training elite gymnasts to the international level, that is what is missing. people to drive the programs, they are all standing around waiting for a handout. it is sickening listening to the complaints that they are not being catered to, money will not solve the problem. Where are the people who WANT TO MAKE IT WORK? Liz Chetkovich did not recieve any money for 15 years when she started WAIS. Fiona Bird did not recieve a handout, until she produced some results when she initiated the VIS. Peter Dowdell did not get any money to start the QAS. NSWIS did not fund the boys until they produced some results. Quit your groaning and get in the gym and make it work, if it is your passion. there are no part time elite gymnastics coaches. If you are not willing to put in 50-60 hours a week, then do not attempt to become an international level coach, of any sport. Don't complaint and ridicule those that have chosen to pursue this path. Successful people do what others won't.
Wow. I hadn't really thought of it like that. Very true that it has been a hard road for some states but it doesn't have to be that way. Doesn't SA have a state run program with funding without having produced any results?
One of the problems in NSW is that GA keep telling gymnasts that they should move to other states, specifically they usually mention Vic. GA generally show little faith or support for NSW.
So what is next on the agenda for the Elite girls? Trials are happening all over Australia. Any results yet from Queensland and Perth? Who will be selected for Japan Cup? Who is on assignments at the moment? It's all happening!
Worlds is going ahead in Tokyo so you would think that Japan cup will still go ahead. It will be interesting to see if it is the same girls as usual or if they send different girls for much needed experience before Worlds.Wonder if Lauren will do more than Bars?
does this mean mcgrath, collister and donald are out of nationals, or that they just haven't qualified yet?
Congratulations to the following International Stream Gymnasts.
Congratulations to the following WG Gymnasts who have been selected to the Victorian International Stream State Squad for Australian Championships in Perth in July.
Senior International Ashleigh Brennan (VWHPC) Georgia-Rose Brown (VWHPC) Tierra Exum (VWHPC) Zoe Lorenzin (VWHPC) Mary-Anne Monckton (VWHPC) Georgia Wheeler (MLC)
oh yeh, and what about britt greeley? she competed at the trial last week and did great, but didn't do bars - does this means she still needs to do an AA comp to qualify?
holy shit! the results from qld trials are up and chloe has a 5.8 on bars, 5.6 on beam, 5.3 on floor - only 5.0 on vault though, but if she can upgrade there I don't see how they could leave her home for worlds.
Chloe is at QAS. I saw her on the week-end and she is looking fantastic!!! Don't know if Peggy's seen her yet but she would have to include her on a team.
I'm tired of Victorian WAG (not that there is anything wrong with them) getting mentioned on this blog to be honest they have produced a credible gymnast on the world level since Russo. No problem mentioning your gymnast's and what they've achieved, but putting down others around the nation is wrong. It's like the Victorians are trying to sell their gymnast's and programs through this blog. Let's face it the last few credible WAG gymnast's over the last and present olympic cycles were/are Mitchell WAIS, Joura WAIS, Dykes AIS & Simms MBC(past)QAS(present). I have a feeling it was a Victorian stating Mitchell broke her leg 3am in the morning and mentioning Peggy won't pick Simms because of her attitude. How do you know that Simms isn't a reformed person. What I do know is that Simms has an action packed and filled with difficulty routines that can compete with the world level than any other gymnast than Mitchell. We should be embracing and encouraging gymnast like her rather than being out on the witch hunt. Because if you look down the barrel of the gun who else do we have to compete against the worlds talent. One last thing, there is an old saying "Empty ships make the most noise" it should be WA bragging over the last few years I don't know where Victorians think they have the credibility to brag. Let me know what you think?

So where does Emma Nedov train? She's from NSW right?

Are they still having Japan Cup?

If Lauren is selected to only do bars, then they should send someone else that needs the experience more than she does.
Anon 5.17. Emma is from Epping YMCA.
Who could be in the running to be selected? There must be a few? (Japan cup that is)
Vics would have 8? to choose from, WAIS have 4? How many from QAS? How many in the Team?
does this mean mcgrath, collister and donald are out of nationals, or that they just haven't qualified yet?

I would say those are the girls that have qualified so far
Is Barron Valley still doing IDP, and if so, is the program still producing good gymnasts? I thought the results were a bit lacklustre recently...

Chloe could easily go as a three-eventer.
Where is Chloe training? And no Natalia??
people have said chloe is at QAS
