Good luck girls.

I missed vic champs on ch31 last night did anyone watch it and what did you think.

I liked it! It was mostly partial routines, but there is something about broadcast quality footage that highlights the quality of our gymnasts (it also shows up more errors, but anyway!).

For example Mary-Anne's quality on beam and wonderful lift into her dismount was even more apparant.

Georgia Wheeler's bars looked BIG, as did her floor. Needs some control, but what raw talent!

Prashanth looked wonderful.

All in all, a good first effort. I could make some criticisms of course, but I think encouragement is more in order. I hope we see more! In fact, a regular show would be awesome -- they could cover training once a month or something.

Did they only show seniors or was it mixed with the younger levels?

What about the boys that are heading over. Did u want to mention and wish them luck too...

The program wasn't bad.
The quality of video was a little low but they showed a mix of seniors and Nat 10s.
Sadly, the commentators seemed to be busy demonstrating their judging skills and listing skills rather than commenting on the competition.

A good effort but get rid of the female commentator.

Well, the ability to commentate rather than list skills is something I believe comes with practice. For a first effort I thought the commentators weren't bad -- certainly better than some of the expert commentators we've seen on the commercial channels.

Liz Chetkovich, you've spoiled us for good commentary!

LOVED seeing gymnastics on TV. Let's have more! Would have loved to see some of the IDP girls including mine in the program but I understand the focus on the older gymnasts.

Maddi and Emma finished 8th and 9th respectively, both with scores just over 50 and Australia picked up the bronze behind England and wales. Well done girls. Alex finished a little further down (maybe had some problems?) I seem to remember her scoring around 50 in the past? Should have made some finals I think.

Having just come from International 10, this is a stellar result for Maddi Leydin! I didn't get to see her at all at Nationals, can anyone comment on her skills? Her Nationals scores would have attached bonus for high level skills, so this would be the first time she has comparable scores with the other junior internations, wouldn't it? How old is she?

Emma: 50.15 which is better than both her days at Nationals (49.525 and 47.950), so well done!

Alex: 47.95 seems a little down on what she is capable of (50.475 and 48.225 at Nationals). Anyone know if she had problems, or did she reduce difficulty for some reason?

I confess I was a bit "EEEEK!" when I saw that Wales had beaten us, but now that I've looked at the scores from nationals, I think the girls have done really well and I can't wait to (hopefully) see some video.

Well done, girls! Have a great comp in finals!

Alex pulled a muscle the day before in training

Poor Alex -- get well soon!

Poor Alex, She pulled a muscle on day one of training! I hear her leg was heavily strapped yet she had to compete for the team as three required to make up a team.
Good on her for getting out there and even with watered down routines she helped them secure Bronze!!

Emma is also injured. She carried an injury to the Isle of Man. Well done Emma on a great performance.
How do you know Alex had watered down routines, is there video coverage somewhere. Love to see the girls,Emma has great beam.

Anonymous said...

Alex has basically the same d scores as nationals so I don't see how her routines could be watered down. Execution was poor on bars and beam though suggesting maybe multiple falls?

Anonymous said...

How did you see the breakdown of the scores. I can only find the total scores not the breakdown between the e and d scores

Why was no reserve sent?

If you follow the link on this post to the British gymnastics site and look under apparatus qualification the start values are there.

emma nedov's performances have been in steady decline for the past couple of years. Her scores here and in the last 12 months pale in comparison to those she got at the pre-olympic youth cup in 2010.

According to GA Emma could have won gold if not for a couple of falls on beam.

Be very carful critisizng these girs who are very young and have gone out there and done the best they can considering injuries, also keep in mind 13-15 year olds grow alot and their centre of gravity suffers.

Great Job girls! What a shame about Alex's injury - she is such a superstar. Love that Maddi is doing well and would love to find out how Grace Floods back is going as she was also a terrific performer with these girls. Is that what is keeping her from competitions at the moment?

Don't know much about Emma but you go girl, great results with injuries.

Great job by both girls in the finals but seriously GA if Emma was the last competitor she would have needed 15.15 to tie for gold. She has a 5.9 start value so I guess it is mathematically possible but given the 12.3 from the day before and her injury how can they expect us to believe that she could have got that score? That said 12.45 is pretty decent with 2 falls so she clearly has the potential for gold in beam finals.

Re Anon 2.40pm - Gracie is just recently back in training after problems with her back - What a shame she missed these Junior comps; I'm sure she has a bright future ahead.

Anonymous said...

Well, Emma is REALLY good on beam. Perhaps a little hyperbole from GA but I think she definitely has the potential to crack 15.

If she fell twice, her SV was probably missing connection difficulty, and so probably would have been higher if she hadn't fallen. It's like a double ehammy.

So camp starts tomorrow for our hopeful Seniors. Let the fun begin!
I think this years team will have thier work cut out for them, hope it's not to intense at camp.
With the team starting on Beam especially tricky.Sorry to hear that girls like Lorenzin, Donald and Simpson are not available. I think they would add flair to the team.Good luck to the ones that are
trialing.

Does anyone know if Wheeler is going? She could be a boost....

Anonymous said...

She's never done anything of note on the international stage.

Anonymous said...

Wheeler has potential to help us greatly on bars and floor...if not this year, definitely in future teams. Very exciting skills, if a bit uncontrolled as yet.

Anonymous said...

I have heard about Wheelers very exciting skills for a long time! Not only would she need more control but a bit more artistry would'nt hurt.

What Juniors will be moving into Senior next year? The Seniors certianly need some more depth with the number of injuries at the moment.
