Has anyone stopped to think of the toll this sport has on young girl's bodies, living with constant pain, constant injections and medical treatment. Perhaps what needs to be considered, is how do we keep talented gymnasts in this sport. I am sure if both girls were fully fit would still love to be competing. Probably didn't help that MLC closed the elite program while McGrath was in the middle of year 12 either.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575696150347887818.post-56932710419133709332013-07-17T02:08:23.478+10:002013-07-17T02:08:23.478+10:00A. I have only had it confirmed that Ashely and Georgia B. have retired.

Also, what happened to Angela Donald? She was a great beam worked and could make a final if she is fit and competing and the other great beam worker Amelia McGrath?? Lovely gymnast. Would have been great to have seen her just compete beam is she wanted to. In this world championships I would assume there is definitely space for specialists.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575696150347887818.post-39732043949600187962013-07-14T21:07:04.301+10:002013-07-14T21:07:04.301+10:00It is certainly a shame that more girls don't ...It is certainly a shame that more girls don't stay on but I don't understand what you mean about them being "given" goals. After all those years of training don't they and their coaches set their own goals?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575696150347887818.post-48020980031524543622013-07-14T20:56:49.307+10:002013-07-14T20:56:49.307+10:00Perhaps if GA and Peggy had spent more time on loo...Perhaps if GA and Peggy had spent more time on looking after the Seniors that were left after the Olympics we might have more out there competing. When you are given no goals to keep you motivated how do they expect these girls to keep pushing through. They have just given thier all for the sport the past few years. Not all could make an Olympic team but they don't deserve to be pushed a side either. If they don't have enough to make a team next year for Comm Games, they need to look at how they treat thier Seniors.Yes, the next cycle are important, but at the expense of girls who have given years of dedication?
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575696150347887818.post-84049274684979560702013-07-13T16:04:08.861+10:002013-07-13T16:04:08.861+10:00Well, it could have been that everyone just had a ...Well, it could have been that everyone just had a really bad night... ? (yeah, the chances of everyone timing it so that they all had a bad day on exactly the same day are a bit slim!) However, for the other days hopefully there will be fewer falls, and they'll do better over all.

My over all feeling was, "Oh dear. And this is them supposedly consolidating." The scores did seem to be exceptionally low.

But then I guess if you're all trying to up your difficulty (did they? I wasn't there so I don't know) maybe it takes more time than they have had to get those harder skills into a routine and working well. Perhaps we are still expecting too much of them at this stage?

Looking forward to better performances over the next few days. Hopefully last night was just a blip.

Good luck ladies! Do your best! :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575696150347887818.post-30339175030409078222013-07-13T14:05:55.655+10:002013-07-13T14:05:55.655+10:00it was great GA did Quick hits, but they weren'...it was great GA did Quick hits, but they weren't especially insightful or accurate. I was surprised to open up the scores after their comments on some of the routines. They raved about Emma Nedov's beam but then you see her e-score was in the 6s for example. And every routine was beautiful or great or wonderful, and then it would be like oh btw she fell 3 times! Not really useful information for someone trying to follow the competition.

In any case if I were Peggy I would be worried about my job. To have only one senior break 50, and only just, is very worrying. If you look at results from Euros this year for example, where these days the gymnastics powers are not even concentrated anymore, Brown would barely qualify for the AA, and only her out of our entire senior team.
