*does a little Queen wave*
Worlds are over, but gym action in the UK won't be taking a Bank Holiday (nyuk nyuk nyuk)!
Keep yourself updated on the Rose Bowl competition comings-and-goings here. Good luck to all the competitors.
***EDITOR'S EDIT AND NOTE***
As far as I understand, live video streaming for Rushmoor is being done, but in conjunction with participating clubs. That is, when you go to register at the website I had previously listed in this entry, you have to list a club you are watching on behalf of, and as far as I can tell this involves clubs actually taking part in the competition (cf. WAIS/Waverley/Victorian High Performance Centre). I have reason to believe they're checking names with participating clubs for safety reasons but mind you, nothing of the kind was indicated in the original information I received about the feed. So I apologise for getting anyone's hopes up with a "ZOMGZ FREE LIVE FEED FREE-FOR-ALL" invitation. You may not get through registration after all. I don't know what's happening "at the other end". I hope to soon.
I was pointed to the site on behalf of Waverley and assumed that my approval came thanks in part to their good word.
My other concern about the address being made public, outside of the 'safety reasons' thing, was that according to the original email I was sent about the competition, this is the first time ever Rushmoor has done live video streaming. I realised after I posted the URL that I'd probably be leaving it open to hundreds of people hitting the site and I've got a feeling a British gymnastics club doesn't have quite the web traffic capacity of something like Universal Sports!
Anyway. That was my initial hesitation, a Waverley parent has said they will very kindly sort it out for us with the necessary Rushmoor reps. I could be COMPLETELY wrong (as I have been, on numerous occasions, except for 11:23am on June 18th, 2002) about it all and it's completely fine and as many people as possible from as many places across the world can register and watch and it's all fine and dandy.
If you get through the registration phase within the next 24 hours, that's great. If not, I'm very very sorry.
If any further information about accessing the feed heads my way, I will concretely clarify all this as soon as possible.
it seems that it is still only for clubs? It says you have to be checked by a club or somethin? or am I doing something wrong?
ReplyDeleteHm...
ReplyDeleteThis is where I'm confused re: who is allowed to watch the feed. I was given the url and invited to watch on behalf of Waverley so I entered their name and got registered.
I think you have to state which club you'd be watching on behalf of (eg Waverley or WAIS or VWHPC or perhaps just Australia) and then they check that alongside their system, ie it might ONLY be open to people associated with the participating clubs. They usually take a few hours - or even a day - to email you back with confirmation of your registration to view the feed.
That said, they may even contact the club you listed to check that they know you and then they'll approve your registration. I don't know. I just got an email later in the day letting me know.
But I figured if the HPC had advertised it publicly then it'd be ok for anyone to have a go at registering.
If it's not then please understand that I will be deleting that information about registering and apologise for the mistake.
I had the same problem. I feel a little uncomfortable plugging in VWHPC when I really don't know if that's what they intended by noting it on their webpage. If it turns out we can't watch, please take mental notes about skills and upgrades!
ReplyDeletesooo...has anyone had any luck actually doing this?
ReplyDeleteOkay, club people and Mez! Sounds like we plebs will be relying on you to bring us coverage. I, for one, have been looking forward to the Shadow Squad's (TM Mez) tour almost as much as Worlds! It's just been sooooo long since we've seen a number of these gymnasts at competition readiness...and they are our future!
ReplyDeleteGOOOOOO girls!
I just registered under WAIS as the link was in our newsletter. A confirmation email came straight away regarding the email address but it said that a second email would come when they have completed their security checks. No idea what they might be though.
ReplyDeleteLove the girls wearing their green and gold everywhere they go! :)
ReplyDeleteBrinds
It's really disappointing that they leave out fans like that. Whatever 'safety reasons' they might use, it's a ridiculous excuse when people will be watching from the other side of the world.
ReplyDeleteWill anyone who can watch be recording the stream?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried to register who is not affiliated with a club? It may be possible, so why not try? You could just nominate team Australia as Australia is registered as a competing club. I don't think anyone could deny that you belong to Australia! The worst that could happen is they say no. Incidently, I haven't had mine approved yet and I applied this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteGuys, if WAIS published the URL in their newsletter, I'm sure you can get away with putting in the name of one of the clubs.
ReplyDeleteThey are not going to ring up each club and ask if they have heard of you; not only is the cost of itnernational calls prohibitive, but any member could distribute the URL to relatives and friends who have no affiliation to WAIS on a name basis.
Whether the WAIS secretary can remember your name is going to decide whether or not you can watch! It's just not practical to check any further than the fact you can correctly enter the name of a participating club.
I just got my approval to watch the streaming - it came in while I was sleeping! I assume I've missed the first days streaming though, does anyone know what time the competition is?
ReplyDeleteYou haven't missed any yet - it is at 2.40am this evening/tom morning and tomorrow night as well.
ReplyDeletelol. That's great thank you. I will try to capture the streaming if I can get the technology to work!
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 12.01 and 12.27 -- you ROCK! I hope the technology works out.
ReplyDelete:)
In case any of you cant get the live streaming.. here is a link which give live scores :http://www.gymdata.co.uk/index.asp
ReplyDeleteOctober 24, 2009 3:16 PM
Don't be afraid of trying if you're not affiliated with a club; I'm not and they still approved me. I will try and take some notes during the competition about skills etc in case not everyone gets through on time.
ReplyDeleteLucky old me is working 6:30am til 3 tomorrow so I won't be watching any of tonight's competition. I'll do my best to do coverage of tomorrow's though.
ReplyDelete:)
The live streaming has just started. I thought it wasn't until tonight. No australians yest and my conection is so slow it's almost unwatchable anyway.
ReplyDeleteThere is something like 20 teams competing so they must have the dud teams early in the morning and the better ones in later sessions.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the "dud" teams, Anon @ 8:31.
ReplyDeleteThere are indeed quite a few teams competing, and I think it might be the novice gymnasts, and/or local British clubs, on earlier in the day.
AFAIK the divisions featuring Aussies and other international cluvs are on much much later (2am-ish our time).
what is the link forthe live stream?
ReplyDeletewww.gymdata.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteIt has scores updated live, and you can also try registering to view the free live video stream as well.
13.500 - Nikki Chung (Western Australia)
ReplyDelete13.450 - Georgia Simpson (Western Australia)
13.400 - Natalia Joura (Western Australia)
13.400 - Ashley Cooney (Western Australia)
I can see that the girls are on Bars now so I'm guessing these are Vault scores. My live stream is pretty useless, keeps jumping. I think Ashley has had a fall towards the end of what was looking like a great bar routine.
24.95 - Nikki Chung (Western Australia)
ReplyDelete24.85 - Georgia Simpson (Western Australia)
21.05 - Natalia Joura (Western Australia)
22.5 - Ashley Cooney (Western Australia)
After Bars. every routine I watched looked like it had at least one fall in it so these scores aren't too bad considering that. Beam next (I assume) but it is way away from the camera so I'm not expecting to see much.
lots of falls for the girls on bars
ReplyDeleteAshley 9.1
Georgia 11.40
Nikki 11.45
missed Nat's score but she had at least three falls
Ashley 12.3 beam
ReplyDeleteNikki 11.8
Nat 13.25
Georgia 11,85
7.65 on Bars for Nat
ReplyDeleteLooks like Georgia had a clean floor. Can someone who has good internet speed tell me how it was? I've been dying to see her compete, it's been so long! I think she is a very special gymnast.
ReplyDeleteAustralia starting on bars, which is pretty much the only apparatus I can see.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed Rachel Collister didn't compete with WA. And Natalia didn't do floor.
ReplyDeleteI watched this past sub; some of my impressions:
ReplyDeleteVT
All did LO Yurchenkos, nicest were Nikki's and Georgia's. Natalia's not so great.
UB
Natalia Joura - total disaster for her. She is a gutsy kid because she goes for the perfect, pencil straight handstands, but often this is to her detriment because she falls the wrong way.
She had a stalder 1/2 to jaeger combo, the jaeger was about 1m away from catching in both warmup and the meet, fell to tum. Stalled on the stalder half and fell the wrong way in the comp. Then when recasting to hs after her jaeger to stomach, fell wrong way in handstand.
Her warmup transitions to high bar were good, but dead hang in the comp. Definitely improved going by warmup though. Nice bail to hs, but then stop on highbar after shoot. Stalder full. Double tuck dismount. Hopefully she will put back in her gorgeous gienger and the full twist back in her dm.
Ashley Cooney - also a disaster for her given how well she did at nationals. Toe full-late, bail hs, hit feet on floor, stalder ½, endo 1/2, form break on shoot to high, stalder full form break and extra swing, big tkatchev, stop again on hb, fall again casting to HS. Double pike dm slow rotation and nearly faceplanted but managed to stand it up.
Georgia Simpson - Tall, beautiful lines! Kips a little like Larrissa Miller/Iryna Kras – not fully extended at the hips, with an odd lower back arch – it’s not completely smooth after shoots to hb. Perfect bail – hs in warmup. Comp - LB- Stalder, toe on, toe full, shoot to high, nice tkatchev, bail hs – form break and fall. . Double pike dismount, nearly clipped bar but stood it up well.
Nikki Chung - loved her work. Pencil straight handstands. Toe on, toe full late– shoot to high, toe ½, rev giant, huge jaeger to stomach – too far out - perfect bail hs, free hip hecht to high (original!), free hip, stalder, double tuck dismount –easy.
Did you see Georgia on floor Nade? My feed is hopeless, used up all my high speed intenet during worlds!
ReplyDeleteCan hardly see beam so probably some inaccuracies:
ReplyDeleteCooney double turn, nice! Korbut, but not a really ambitious one. back tuck dismount. Also in there Bhs back whip or loso it looked like ?
Chung: squat turn, aerial/ not connected/ bhs loso. Aerial cartwheel or side somi - fall. Switch leap back tuck. High back tuck dismount.
Simpson- nice scale. Great splits. Aerial cart. Switch back tuck. Bhs loso big wobble. Nice sheep. Nice turn w leg up. Double tuck to faceplant. Seems to have great flex from what I could see. I thought she might have fallen but with the blurriness I couldn’t tell for sure.
Natalia - nice job, with some small wobbles. Missed start. Back tuck dm. Nice sheep jump. Aerial cartwheel. Very smooth connection of fornt aerial into side somi. I also think there was a bhs loso in there from memory.
Floor:
ReplyDeleteCooney – cool drum rock double pike nice double turn
Layout ½ + layout (I think, might have been 1.5) , splits lacking in leaps. Cant see 3rd pass. Double twist runs backward oob but saves it. Not a smooth twisting technique.
Chung- violin section of music is like fingernails on a blackboard. Very nice double tuck. 1.5 + punch forn low. Switch ring + switch half.. Squat turn – transition to roll back like Lauren but very weird and uncontrolled- like she’s flopping down on a beach towel. front layout 3rd pass. Last pass clean double twist-nice.
Simpson – violinish music
Great double pike basically stuck and with pointed toes.
1.5 punch front clean. 1.5 turn w leg up. Cant see 3rd pass. Elegant. Finished with what looked like a double twist but hard to tell – the stream buffered. Great splits again.
I gotta go to bed now so hopefully someone can take over - my stream keeps stopping!
ReplyDeleteAhhh sounds like the girls are a bit nervous! But sounds like they're not doing too terribly - hopefully they will feel better and more confident on day two.
ReplyDeleteThis nikki chung sounds like she is one to watch!
Thanks for all the great quick hits Nade! :)
Brinds
i'm watching the older girls - tons of falls it seems. Poor Emma put her hands down on UB dismount and then hands down on double pike on floor. Her tumbles were watered down. Britt had a horror fall off BB on her switch leap. she was too close to the end moving forwards, her foot slipped over the edge, and she crashed over to the ground. Hardly any of them are breaking 13.00, most scores seem to be low 12s thus far.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm really confused - it seems Rachel Collister is competing labelled as Emily Little. No sign of Emily yet from what I can see.
ReplyDeleteEmma Collister 13.7 Floor!
ReplyDeleteI thought I saw Rachel follow Emma on bars! I wonder what is going on?
ReplyDeleteLittle had a fall in training yesterday and has withdrawn precautionary.
ReplyDeleteIs Emma Dennis injured? I am surprised to see her only doing a yurchenko layout, she is such a wonderful vaulter usually.
ReplyDeleteI thought Emma D did ok. Besides vault, where we know she is capable of more, she scored 12.100 on bars with a fall and 12.600 on floor with a fall, which is quite good considering its a 1.0 deduction. Then she scored 13.9 on beam!
ReplyDeleteI hope she makes CWG 2010, she will be so useful as a solid all arounder with good vault.

I gotta say that although WAIS had consistency problems on bars, they were all pretty good bar workers form and technique wise. Their handstands especially were very straight and taken to the max, which is in part why they had some problems.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they are all coached by Vladimir or not, but none of the technical issues that have arisen with Lauren's bars and Olivia Vivian's bars (eg banana back/flat releases) were there. Only the shoots to high left a little to be desired at times.
Nikola and Natalia's Jaegers, even though they missed them in the comp, were both of Daria Joura quality and very, very big. They all had amazing bail-HS, hardly ever short of handstand, and never had any form breaks on this skill.
A lot of the girls are coming back form injuries so it's no suprise that they've atered down thei routines. Natalia usually has more skills and harder dismounts in her UB and BB routines and obviously Emma is still coming back if she's only vaulting a laidout yurchenko. Given some time I'm sure this new crop of girls will surprise and impress.
ReplyDeleteEven with the mistakes Aus is still comfortable in first by over 6 points and Britt and Emma Collister were top two AA with Emma D coming 5ht so some good signs there.
anyone know which aussies made event finals?
ReplyDeleteHuge thanks to Nade and Anon for the fabulous quick hits!
ReplyDeleteIs there a separate AA comp as well as EF?
Well done, girls! Hopefully we get to see some of these routines. Sounds like a number of falls but still more consistent than Nationals...YAY!
:)
Don't quote me because it was fairly complicated to work out but if I've worked it out correctly and there are 10 finalists I have the following girls through to finals
ReplyDeleteVault; Britt and Emma C
Bars; Britt, Emma C and Fiona
Beam; Emma D, Natalia and Britt
Floor; Britt, Emma C
On floor Rachel C Nikki and Georgia all placed 10th with 12.55 so I don't know which one gets to compete finals.
Like I said I worked this out last night(this morning) and It may not be 100%.
By the way the WA girls do train (and have done for a number of years) with Vlad. Except for Georgia (who is senior next year) who along with Lauren and Emily trains with Nikolai and Martine. As far as I know the plan is for Vlad's girls to stay with him through to Senior. Great to hear that they are looking good!
ReplyDeleteHi and well done for yesterday. At the gym comp.
ReplyDeleteBut did you know about the international pumpkin carvin contest which took place later that evening.
Well done again oz. 1st austrailia 2nd Canada 3rd south Africa 4th England 5th Rushmoor. Ask your girls all about it when they get back
