Pacific Rim News: Aussie MAG

Best wishes to all competitors, coaches and officials at this weekend's trial for Australia's Pacific Rim Championships men's team. Only 6 competitive slots are open - 3 seniors, 3 juniors- so it will be a tough race for the much-envied positions.

The trial is being held at the AIS from 11am on Saturday so keep yer eyes and ears open for news!

Don't forget, you can show your support to Australian gymnasts by signing my petition here.

And, just finally, I'll have yet another exclusive for you in a couple of days!

  5. Mary- Anne is definitely out for Pacific Rims.
    Zoe is a maybe
    Georgia is healthy
    Amelia is healthy

  6. I hope that they stay healthy for worlds- its a big year, qualifications for 2012 Olympics and all.

Don't know who is replacing Jane Allen but whoever it is will be better than her for sure. She was so nasty. the recruitment process began a while ago- hopefully they'll be making decisions soon

  7. If G Wheeler is in for the world cup, then who is out? Lauren, Emily or Larrissa?

I am really excited for MLC, this is so awesome for their program! I think the 3 who go to the world cup will be the 3 at Pacrim.

  8. There's an article on the GA website talking about Miller racing to be fit for Pac rim so it's probably her not going to Paris. It wouldn't be wise to send her if she wasn't at top form anyway.

I am surprised Britt didn't get a shot actually, she looked good in the videos from just recently, especially on beam.

Can't wait to see if Georgia has added any new skills though, I really think that she could be one of the biggest hopes for 2012 with her vaulting prowess.

Seems the 3 Pacrim spots are between Larrissa, Lauren, Britt, Emily, Georgia, most likely a combo of the the last 4.

Zoe, Shona , Emma D, Georgia B and MaryAnne aren't trialling.

For juniors, I have a feeling both Collisters may be selected for juniors if they are healthy. The only junior I know is not trialling is Ashley Cooney. Maybe someone else can shed light on how the others are?

  9. I think Georgia Rose-Brown will be selected from the recent vids we have seen. Fingers crossed for her she is a beautiful gymnast :)

  10. I don't know anyone who is 'nasty' now. And, yes, she was quite unpleasent to me and particularly horrible to a very close friend of mine. People who have opinions aren't always perpetuating rumours. I am speaking from personal experience, I am glad there is the opportunity to recruit a new CEO, I think it will be a great move for GA

  11. Does anyone know much about the skills or chances of the unknown juniors like Emma Nedov, Katie Wurth, Naomi Lee, I haven't really heard of them before? Could they have a chance to get on the team? Or maybe Natalia Joura?

    ReplyDelete
  12. *tiny voice* Isn't anybody gonna talk about the MAGs?

    ReplyDelete
  13. For Juniors I think it will be a Collister or two and Georgia-Rose. Seniors maybe Lauren, Larissa and Georgia Bonora? How many scores count?

As for MAG I have no idea- again I guess it depends on how many scores count towards team total. We have awesome gymnasts in Rizzo and Prash but if 3 or 4 scores count, you would want them all to be seniors on every app right? They have the higher difficulty so its logical. Josh Jeffries I guess would be my first pick. But I don't knwo anything about the juniors at all to comment

  14. I think the buzz is on Jefferis and Offord as senior AA-ers, the third spot is anyone's guess.

I'd love to see Rizzo and Sellathurai wow the crowd, though Phil as a one-event specialist may not be worth the spot. Prashanth has the upper hand, in that he can contribute strongly to at least one other apparatus besides his pet event.

I just have this funny feeling that those that may not make the team but who are strong on a certain event might do an exhibition routine at some point (I'm thinking of Phil and Larissa in particular here).

  15. According to MLC Lauren is the one out of the the Paris meet.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes Lauren is out of Paris World Cup. Emily, Georgia and Larrissa are the girls who are going.

  17. *laughing at Mez* - love your effort to keep on track but it appears there are more people here with a passion for WAG.

As for Georgie Vs Britt, based on recent training for both, I'd take Georgia any day. She looks strong and clear with some lovely big skills. Whilst Britt has developed her skills, she remains less tidy.

  18. Where are all the signatures for the petition???

  19. ooo cool! can you tell us about any of her new skills?

btw, what did you guys think about Georgia Rose's new floor? I think it is divine, especially the section from 0:12-0:25. Does anyone know who choreographed it?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSYmnSRDYyI

    ReplyDelete
  20. No idea who the choreographer was but apparently she has 'issues' with her dismount which may be a reason for Peggy to leave her off the Pac Rim team.

She really needs to get a dbl back dismount but is sticking to a 2 1/2 twist and appears a little hesitant to change or to clean up the twist up (She nearly always lands with a huge out of control step out)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't think she would be really picked for her floor though, more her bars and beam. We already have lots of good floor workers - Collisters, A. McGrath, etc etc.

Hope she can sort it out.

  22. I hope Sam and Tom from QLD get in for mens :)

  23. I kinda love that this is the one sport where the girls get all the attention!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, interestingly, this is one popular sport where the male participants are the minority with regard to publicity and recognition.

I try to address (redress?) the imbalance here but it can be difficult!

  25. RE- Does anyone know much about the skills or chances of the unknown juniors like Emma Nedov, Katie Wurth, Naomi Lee, I haven't really heard of them before? Could they have a chance to get on the team? Or maybe Natalia Joura

the girls are all working on handspring vaults and started doing cartwheels on beam.

  26. Any hint on your next exclusive?

    ReplyDelete
  27. It should be up by tomorrow evening.

I really can't say much more or the whole cat will be out of the bag!

  28. helloom - don't pollute this blog with stupid comments like that. People are genuinely trying to learn about our gymnasts, and are not here to put up with your sarcasm.

    Who are you referring to??????????

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think the comment was to helloom a few comments back who suggested our injured girls are working handsprings and cartwheels which are very basic skills and obviously an attempt at humour (I hope).

  31. Lisa Bradley choreographed Georgia R-B's floor routine. She works at the HPC and at MLC I believe. She also made Clare O'Donnell, Georgia Wheeler and Isobel Looker's new floor routines.

As for Georgia Wheeler's new skills, she has been doing Handspring front pike half out on vault but not sure if it is competition ready, but definitely close to. On Bars, the same routine as National Clubs but with a piked Double arabian dismount. Beam she has added a back handspring, two foot flic to double pike dismount. Floor I believe is the same.

  32. GymNSW announced that Jack Rickards made Pac Rim team for juniors. GA haven't put up who else made it yet but I guess you could guess Prash didn't or GymNSW would have congratulated him too right?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nik, the same thing crossed my mind. I don't know why GA don't just announce ti anyway if the state associations are.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I really want to see britt and emily on the pacific rim team. Who would be the 3rd senior in the team? Georgia W or larrissa for her bars?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wheeler I would say, lets not forget Miller has had a foot injury as the article said on the GA site, also it did say that she has alot of catch up to do.
