Any news from NSW Trial 1? Ashleigh Kittl (AIS JNR) has posted her routines on Youtube. She has added in some nice new skills on beam and looks cleaner these days in execution.
Why is this girl not on the Junior national team!? She vaults a yurchenko full, tumbles a bhs-loso-loso and double tuck dismount on beam, and ends her floor with a D dismount! About 90% of our juniors are still vaulting piked yurchenkos and ending floor with a double twist. I know Ashleigh needs a bit of work work on her leaps and turns, but seriously, throw this girl a bone!
Could somebody please clarify the rules for national qualification of IDP 8. Do you have to get a minimum D score on UB,BB and FX of 5.4 or just a total D Score of 20.00.
actually, there are a lot of juniors that end with a d dismount. and obviously, peggy chose girls that would have more consistent skills rather than girls with skills that are just new, therefore under pressure, might cause them to fall.
Anonymous 2:49pm The qualification for Nationals for IDP8 (and 6) is 5.4 for each apparatus. This effectively means that they can loose one skill or two connections on an apparatus and still qualify. The exception to this is of course vault.
Where did she get the 5.1? If it was at nationals, perhaps she didn't get a skill paid. If it was this year, she has not qualified and will need to qualify at another event.
Then clearly we are talking about Kiara Munteanu and you can see that she is listed as a competitor at trial two. Not sure where you got the information that she had qualified but she has not (although I'd be surprised if she didn't) and will make the most of the opportunity next week.
Thanks, Anon said she qualified may 12 2010 3.14pm, I hope she also does, I am just trying to understand the rules, and that confused me. They could be taken a different way!
The wag handbook is hidden away on the gymnastics aust site, go to about us then by laws etc has some information on qualifing but not manual, last years outdated routines still up!
I am not as familiar these days with IDP 6 and 8 but from what i can tell Kiara's floor did not reach D score. Ciara Marasea looks to have qualified though. In NSW Jazmine Cassis, Aimee Lea Warnock and Madeleine Nedov look like they qualified. In IDP10 and Junior it will depend on if the reached the CR requirements of their D score. Information is here on page 8 http://www.gymnastics.org.au/site/gymnastics/national/downloads/www2008/pdfiles/Constitution_By-Laws_policies/WG_Technical_Regulations_Part_B.pdf
Don't they pretty much let everyone compete in the end anyway? I don't think it really does anyone any advantages by being stringent, international stream athletes need lots of competition experience anyway. Hopefully most girls who should be going get to go.
Happy to hear that Mary-Anne is back on her feet :)
In 6, 8 and 10 it's more about making the team - it's usually only one team per state and if you have 15 girls trialling then only 6 go (i think it's still 6)
I'm fairly sure in most states anyone who qualifies gets to compete. Last year, NSW, VIC and WA all had additional athletes in IDP 6 who were not part of the "team" for the team competition but who represented their state as individuals. There were also some additional (not in a team) athletes in IDP 8 and 10. Not every one who trials gains the qualification score however. In National Levels it is only the team who goes except sometimes in Level 9 and 10 if GA say there is enough room on the program for extras.
They probably mean you need at least 3 x CR at 0.5 each which equals 1.5. Like on beam you might have your acro series, dance connection and turn but not the fwd/side/bwd acro requirement or a dismount.
There has always been a limit on the number of athletes allowed to compete in IDP6 and 8 even though there is room for extras but i don't know if this has changed. up until last year 6 and 8 did not compete at the same comp as 10, Jnr and Snr - they used to compete at the same time as National levels. That has now changed and all WG compete at the same competition. When my daughter did 6 a few years ago only the team and 2 others were allowed to attend. BTW has anyone heard where Australian Championships will be held next year?
I was wondering the same thing about 2011 nationals, usually they have decided by now. They have been really slack with technical bulletins and commission reports, the last one was in December 2009.
Any IDP 6 or 8 that reached the qualifying standards go to Nationals. The States choose the 6 they want for the team, but the rest will compete as individuals. Peggy changed that last year.
Well it's good to see Mary-Anne back in the competition scene, even if she only competed bars. She hasn't competed for a long time, and is still recovering from surgery on both ankles. Hopefully we will see her all-round soon!
We're talking about 2011 nationals, not 2010. I find it hard to believe they would have it in dingy little challenge stadium 3 years in a row, not to mention the travel costs.
I wouldn't be so sure that Nationals will move from Perth in 2011. It was in Vic for3 years from 2001 to 2003, then NSW for 3 from 2004 to 2006. In 2007 and 2008 it was split into 2 events held in QLD and VIC. Now it is back to 1 event I don't see why it wouldn't stay for 3 in Perth.
Mary-Anne could do a routine of giants and I would still think it is amazing. It is fantastic to see someone who has faced such adversity with injuries come out at the other end still with a passion for gymnastics and finally getting a chance to compete. I wish her the best and hope she gets a chance to shine in the AA later in the year.
I am also wondering about the QLD girls, not much information comes out of there, and they have some really nice up-and-comers.
Do they really only have 1 trial? Their state champs is after the cutoff date for submitting qualification scores. I know last year they had to send some of their girls to Victorian Championships to qualify, but it doesn't seem like they're going this year.
I am not 100% sure but I think from qld competing it would be: idp 6 Rianna Mizzen, Grace Shepard, Krystal Hoyer-Smith - idp 8 Eden Tarvit, Tamika Jones, Abbie Benstead, Emily Conran - idp 10 Georgia Godwin, Brianna Wong, Brittany Boffo, Tianye Boorman, Brittany George - jnr Katie Wurth, Amaya King-Koi, Sharlee Clark, Natalia Joura, Bridget Beattie and snr Larissa Miller and Karina Brooks.
Challenge stadium is a good venue. Bigger than Chandler in QLD. Travel costs? Has anyone considered how much it costs for gymnasts from WA to travel to the eastern states 1-2 times a year for a national competition, and people are complaining about having to travel to WA once or twice ever? Has South Australia ever had nationals?
Well said. Also, considering how successful the wa program is, perhaps there is a benefit in the travel. Maybe the WA girls are so used to travelling before comps that they are better able to handle it as juniors and seniors travelling to bigger comps. I'd like to see a podium at Challenge, otherwise it was a good venue last year.

O.k I was wandering how the IDP8 girl from victoria qualified with a 5.1 SV on floor.

The comment is in the life after pacific rim post and she competed at the vic trial 1 2010

Where do you find information about
ReplyDeletequalifying and the skills required/allowed
in each level?
In the IDP manual

ReplyDeletecomment number two, whats a bhs-loso-loso??
ReplyDeleteback hand spring-layout step out-layout step out
ReplyDeleteIs the IDP Manual online?

ReplyDeleteThe results are up and Mary-Anne competed bars! She must be on her way back hopefully. No Naomi Lee though :(
ReplyDeleteEmma Nedov had a 4.9 on bars, 5.5 on beam and 4.6 on floor.

ReplyDeleteI believe Kiara Munteanu qualified at the HPC invitational (if this counts).
I am not as familiar these days with IDP 6 and 8 but from what i can tell Kiara's floor did not reach D score. Ciara Marasea looks to have qualified though. ReplyDeleteCan someone explain the CR (is that composotion requirements) in IDP 10? What does 1.5 CR mean?
ReplyDeleteThey probably mean you need at least 3 x CR at 0.5 each which equals 1.5. Like on beam you might have your acro series, dance connection and turn but not the fwd/side/bwd acro requirement or a dismount.
ReplyDeleteHow can you tell who qualified for nationals in IDP 8 without knowing whether compulsorys or substitions were paid for SV.
ReplyDeleteThe SV in IDP 8 reflects the allowable substitutions.
ReplyDeleteThere has always been a limit on the number of athletes allowed to compete in IDP6 and 8 even though there is room for extras but i don't know if this has changed. up until last year 6 and 8 did not compete at the same comp as 10, Jnr and Snr - they used to compete at the same time as National levels. ReplyDeleteAll Mary-anne competed was bars. Thats all she did last year at Nationals .(even that was only half a routine)
ReplyDeleteAny IDP 6 or 8 that reached the qualifying standards go to Nationals. The States choose the 6 they want for the team, but the rest will compete as individuals. Peggy changed that last year.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what happened to Elouise Princi, Kiana Elliott and Lauren Khoury from Epping?
ReplyDeleteWell it's good to see Mary-Anne back in the competition scene, even if she only competed bars. She hasn't competed for a long time, and is still recovering from surgery on both ankles. Hopefully we will see her all-round soon!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about Kiana, but Eloise and Lauren have quit.
ReplyDeleteKiana injured her knee, needing a couple of operations. She's back training and slowly building up her hours.

ReplyDeletei remember reading that Nationals would be in Perth for 2 years so that would mean it would move for 2011
ReplyDeleteHey guys, I put up all my Pac Rim pics here:

ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with challenge stadium i would perfer it there, than Brisbane's dingy standium, i hope they move it to Sydney.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who's coaching at the AIS?
ReplyDeletethe pattern seems to be a 2 year cycle for elite nationals: Sydney 05/06, Melbourne 07/08, Perth 09/10
ReplyDeleteMary-Anne could do a routine of giants and I would still think it is amazing. ReplyDeleteWell i am just dying to see how the QAS girls look under Vladimir Joura....
ReplyDeleteBridget Beattie's profile on the QAS site says she is born in 94 making her a senior this year.
