Life After PacRim

Hi.

How are you?
Good? Well? Well? Good? Great.

Coming in June is the Victorian State Gymnastics Championships and Rhythmic Aussie All-Stars, an event I hope dearly to attend again, as family wedding fuss and fluff will occupy me for the two weekends the WAG trials are held.

It was confirmed in the last week that NZ's Jordan Rae, fresh from the Pacific Rim Championships, will compete as a guest alongside the state's top female gymnasts at the event.

  1. Are you going to be a volunteer again Mez?

  2. Here is a photo of Lauren and Dasha (and Samantha Elkington - Aerobic Gymsports). It is from the Gymnastics WA facebook page, apparently they presented medals at a MAG comp last weekend.

I think it is a lovely photo.

  3. Nope, Anon 7:00. Going to watch on my own terms this year. ;)

And thanks, Anon 12:31. It *is* a lovely shot!

  4. Has anyone heard any more about TV coverage (Australian or NBC) for Pac Rim?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Apparently there was plenty of footage and it is now nearly totally edited into a couple of 1hr programs.
No date as yet from broadcast.

  7. Anyone have news from Elite Vic trial 1 yesterday?

  8. The WHPC still hasn't fixed up the problems with it's sound system. Year after year they have the same problem, you can never hear what they are announcing. There were also lots of grumbles in the crowd over the placement of the spectator seating. It really isn't a venue equipped for spectators. When you add to that the complete lack of parking in the area for such a function and that the parking inspectors are always gung-ho, yes even on Saturdays and Sundays, perhaps the question needs to be asked, Is there another venue somewhere which can accomodate for everything better than there?
On a good note the competition ran smoothly and nearly finished on time.

  9. Not that complaints about venue, sound, parking etc aren't interesting (we have the same problems here) did you notice anything about the gymnastics?

  10. I believe that all of the NZ team from Pac Rim are planning to be at Victoria State champs. NZL team has also been invited to the Youth Olympic Test event in Singapore the following week.

  11. It says on the gymnastics victoria site that interstate teams will be there too. Maybe the SA girls will come again. It would be good if the QLD Academy girls came again like last year but the comp was so badly run last year I would be surprised if they came down for it again this year.

    ReplyDelete
  12. SA is sending some girls although I am not sure which ones.
Emma Nedov is also rumoured to be attending.

Trial appeared to run well although the seniors and juniors seemed to compete few apparatus.
I am not sure that any did the entire 4!

The venue at HPC is not ideal however, the equipment is good and made available. The assistance from the PASE parents is superb and the location is central for people coming from all directions making it easier to find an appropriate number of judges etc.

As for parking, there is heaps of parking around HPC. Whilst the parks at the front door have limited time, you need only go to the other side of the railway line to find all day parking for free. Not bad really.
I do however agree that a new PA system would be good, or a parent with a REALLY LOUD voice!

All up though, I think the venue is good.
Does your gym have better facilities and are they willing to cancel all classes over 1-2 days to run these events? If so, contact GV ASAP.

    *end rant*

  13. Who competed, highlights of the comp, IDP overall/apparatus winners, other news??????

  14. To Anon at 5.31pm
I put my comment out there as l thought it had some very valid points. The parking situation, not just in front of the door or the surrounding areas on Saturday, was horrible. I'm not sure what other events were being held in the area on that day, but it is what it is.
I would also expect that when l am charged gymnast entry fees of that amount then add to that admission charges for spectating, l should be able to watch the gymnasts and not have my view obstructed as badly as that set up was.
A little bit of feedback for the organizers should be seen as a good thing. This is how we improve for future events.
Your point shouldn't be if my club can hold an event this size or is willing to cancel classes for 1-2 days, the point is that this venue put it hands up for it and it didn't meet what was required in my opinion.

  15. Can ANYONE tell us anything about the actual competition?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I hate these tit for tat rants, so not necessary and to both 'aggravators'...........I believe that HPC did not 'put their hand up' for these events.
My understanding is that no other venue/club nominated so HPC agreed to make the sacrifice. Good on them I say.

Spectator vision might not be fabulous but I thought trials were about the gymnasts performing for selection rather than as a spectacle.

Can ANYONE tell us anything about the actual competition?

  18. there was a balance beam somewhere in the vicinity.

  19. I've been told by one of the coaches that on weekends you can park in the Swinburne car park on High Street. Good to know about the all day parking over the railway line for future training camps where the girls have 3-5 hours 'off' between the two training sessions.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I also believe that the HPC were asked to host the event as no one else would. They are working through the PA system and they have a map at the front door that indicates where you can park in the area - they also warn you about the parking inspectors. I know very few gyms that are actually set up with spectators in mind that also have good equipment. Actually i can only think of one. Other than that - Naomi's bars looked great, Ashleigh's beam solid.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Comp results are on the GV events website.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am surprised you called Ashleigh's beam solid - she got an e-score of 5.9, only 1 tenth higher than her d-score! Seems Svetlana had a good comp, but everyone has the good old Aussie problem of no difficulty.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So impressed that Naomi is already competing Yurchenko 1.5!

I am excited to see her at Vics, hopefully her bars SV will increase by then - it wouldn't surprise me if she is yet to add all her elements.

If I look at the vids of her from the open day she should be able to get a 5.7 with a D-dismount and quite a basic routine.

    Tkatchev D
    Jaeger D
    Gienger D
    Giant full C
    Shap D +
    Bail D +
    Stalder Shoot C (0.2)
    Dismount D

    6D 2C 0.2CV

    3.2+2.5 = 5.7

A better routine only adding 1 new skill would be

    shap D +
    free hip 1/1 D +
    tkatchev D +
    bail D +
stalder shoot C (a whopping 0.5 CV for that sequence)

    gienger D
    jaeger D
    dismount D

    7D 1C 0.5CV

    3.6 + 2.5 = 6.1

  24. Ashleigh had a fall and a bad dismount but considering how long she has been back full training she did well. Guess you had to be there

  25. Can anyone tell me from the results who has qualified for trial 1

    ReplyDelete
  26. for which level?

  27. Results are on GV website.

  28. According to my interpretation of the tech regs, the following qualified at trial 1;
    IDP 6 - Eliza Freeman
IDP 8 - Ciara Marasea, Kiara Munteanu,
IDP 10 (assuming compositional requirements were met) - Madelaine Leydin, Grace Claringbold, Alexandra Eade (I thought Alex was a junior), Grace Flood
Jnr (again assuming CR met) - Svetlana Sanders, Tierra Exum,
Snr - Ashleigh would have qualified on Vault and Floor, Naomi on Vault and Bars.
I'm fairly sure they can qualify any time in the 6 months before Nationals so some probably did at the MLC comp.
Hope this answers your question Anon May 11, 2010 2:15 PM

  29. No one from IDP10 to Senior qualified at trial 1.

    ReplyDelete
  30. the workorder for trial 2 is up. Can anyone tell me about Rachel Boyd from Waverley? I have never heard of her in but she is competing in the IDP10-Senior division.

Also, no Britt so I guess she is out of nationals. No Chloe Turko, Isobel Looker, Clare O'Donnell or Alex Byers-Armstrong either.

    ReplyDelete
  31. WA Trial 1 list is up too. Senior/junior girls registered are Lauren Mitchell, Ashley Cooney, Nikola Chung, Georgia Simpson, and Stella Savvidou (!? she is from Epping YMCA in NSW, or has she moved to WAIS for gym?). No Emily, probably resting I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks for the info that Vic Trial 2 workorder up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I believe that both Emily and Britt qualified for Nationals at Pac Rim trials/camp so don't need the qualifying score.
Amelia is trialling because she is yet to post a qualifying score for bars.
Emma C is yet to qualify on beam - acro series at Pac Rim from memory.
I am fairly sure that Georgia qualified at Pac Rim so not confident that we will see her at the trial.

At a glance, most of the others have either not posted qualifying scores or have only competed 1-2 apparatus so far this year.

Looks like we might be chasing qualifying scores again by creating opportunities in training etc!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Stella was at Epping in NSW but has moved to WA

    ReplyDelete
  35. Rachel Boyd hasn't competed much since she was 3A due to injuries. She's one of those gymnasts that is lovely to watch, beautiful execution, not sure about her skill level, I think beam and floor will be quite good though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Does anyone know what the requirements for qualification to the training camp after nationals for IDP5s is and how many usually qualify?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Apart from Amelia and Georgia W, many of the MLC Junior and Senior girls have been carrying significant injuries for the past six months or so.

    ReplyDelete
  38. NSW Trial 1 is this wekeend.

Mary-Anne is scheduled to compete, but I thought she was injured?

Naomi Lee, Monica Sloane, Ashleigh Kittl and Emma Neodv are also registered for JNR.

No Celeste Loo or Kiana Elliott. Anyone have updates on them? They should be at the point of moving into IDP 10.

    ReplyDelete
  39. For NSW Stella Savidou is also on there and we have now read she's at WAIS so maybe the lists were compiled a while ago?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Does anyone know who is competing what level on the WA rotation schedule - you can usually tell by their numbers but i can't tell here.

    ReplyDelete
  41. whose level do you want to know?

    ReplyDelete
  42. In Victoria you can tell who is competing IDP6, 8, etc by their competition number so i just wanted to know what level each girl is.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I only know the Juniors and Seniors and I just noticed someone has already posted who they are. If you want to know which girls have turned senior you could check the athlete profiles on the GA website.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anyone heard that no back twisting is allowed on floor
in IDP 10? I find this strange considering they need twisting in Jr and Sr.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The only profiles up on the Gymnstics Australia website are the girls on the National Squad.
No one qualified in Junior at the NSW trial.
