Semi-Breaking News!

Well now. Isn't this exciting!

A NSW trial spectator tells me Mary-Anne Monckton showed off a piked Shushunova on bars over the weekend! Apparently, this is a G-rated(!) release element that, if debuted successfully at a World Championships could - like the famed Dunn mount or McIntosh vault - bear her name in the Code of Points!

Well done to 'Other Mez' for mastering what sounds like a truly awesome skill, let alone competing again after bouncing back from a handful of surgeries!

(Not my hands. They could never look that good!)

Also, Georgia-Rose Brown got a little bit more love this week.

  1. OMG!

    Mini Mez rocks!

Can't wait to see it in action.

  2. I can't even imagine what that would look like! Could she also then do the regular shush (straddled) and count 2 G elements?

  3. I would think so. He Kexin does a straddled and a laid out jaeger in her routine and she gets credit for both, not to mentiona heap of gymnasts doing more than one tkatchev varient in their routine.

  4. Yes Mez is comming back back big time. She looked gr8 on Sunday. I cant wait to see her floor. Hopefully she will be ready for state in 2 weeks

  5. I heard she competed beam, bars and vault. What did the do on vault and beam?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm sure she would intend to compete both variations - otherwise there is not much incentive to do the piked version since straddled is also a G.

  7. I thought the layout front full vault was already in the Code when Trudy competed it?

Very excited to see Mary-Anne's new skill! I guess she has put all that injury time to good use.

  8. I think I recall Lauren getting her mount named after her in 2008 after the Olympics but I'm not sure if it's still known as a Mitchell in the code. At worlds last year Lauren submitted a triple turn in wolf position on floor but she never compeeted it, so there's another potential skill to be named. Having said that I believe that dance elements will no longer bear the name of their originator. Also Amelia attempted a triple L turn at Pac Rimon floor. I can't think of anyone else doing that skill atm.

  9. Queensland results are up. 5.6 Difficulty for Natalia Joura on bars is pretty encouraging. That is higher than any of the Pacific Rim team (including seniors - except Larrissa). Georgia Wheeler had a 5.6 at trial 1 though (with lower execution). If Natalia is fit she should be very exciting in the coming months. Can't wait to see her at Nationals. In fact all the Queensland Juniors look like they are putting together promising programs, not to mention the very talented 10's coming up in the next couple of years. Is it time for some Queensland dominance?

  10. What score do seniors need to make it to nationals? It doesn't seem many from QLD will be going looking at those scores, they are much lower than the juniors.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Weren't there any 6's or 8's?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Seniors require an AA minimum of 46 with an E score minimum of 32 and a D score minimum of 12.10 made up of D Vault 4.6 and 2.5CR for Beam, Bars and Floor

    ReplyDelete
  13. also for seniors - can apply as apparatus specialist but meet the apparatus minimum

    ReplyDelete
  14. too bad that Bridget and Karina didn't make it!

    ReplyDelete
  15. So as Sophie and Larrissa for AA

    ReplyDelete
  16. Monckton's bars D score was 5.5, She can still add more skills, and maybe something before the shushunova, for connection value.

  17. Did anyone notice the D score for Chloe Sims on beam at Qld trials?? 7.4 !!!!! Misprint, or Int skills at L10 requirements?

    Ribbit

  18. I can't even find Chloe on the result sheet. i assumed she didn't compete. Where did you see her listed?

    ReplyDelete
  19. No Chloe didn't compete.

  22. Froggy you are funny!

  23. Funny ha ha or funny peculiar??

  24. Definitely peculiar!

  25. How do I find results for Qld trial, I find the website confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. For the updates, replace 'December' with 'May' and you will see them

  27. For QLD results, go to events on the top of the page. Then click on latest results (left side in margin at the top), then the first lot of results are MG, scroll down to WG - the latest results are at the end. You are right though, it is a dogs breakfast of a website and took me hours to find my way around. There also doesn't seem to be much updating done to it. The latest news is Vlad moving to the QAS. I'm guessing they don't have anyone on staff who knows how to manage the web page.

  28. Thank you anon 1:24
Top three juniors outscored all seniors, interesting

  29. Anon 1.35 - I was at the competition and yes the juniors outperformed the seniors (in my opinion). Natalie and Katie have truckloads of style, and Amaya is a solid and confident performer who hit her routines when it counted.

  30. It sounds like Natalia has really improved her presentation.

Back in 2008 she was quite wooden

    Would those in attendance agree?

  31. It does not appear that any of the Juniors or IDP10 have qualified for Nationals as yet.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I mean from Queensland as I have not seen any other results

    ReplyDelete
  33. To anon 1.56:
Considering all of the Seniors competing in your state are coming back from serious injuries I don't think you can compare their scores to the Juniors, who are all in peak form.
I do however find it hard to believe that Larissa Miller and Sophie Budack were outshone in the style department. From what I have seen of both of these gymnasts over the past few years, they are both very stylish gymnasts.
That said, I was not at the competition so cannot really comment on the competition.

  34. Anon 4:48PM, believe it. While Larrissa and Sophie are both beautiful gymnasts, Katie Wurth is more stylish than either of them. Heck, I'd go so far as to say she's more stylish than the two of them combined. She really has tons of potential, performance-wise. Natalia isn't quite as elegant as Katie, but she has good extension and amplitude and a will to excel which is quite impressive. I agree with Anon 1:56PM that both Natalia and Katie outperformed the seniors. It should be noted, though, that both Larrissa and Sophie were far from "in form". I'm sure they'll be up there with Natalia and Katie when they're healthy again.

  35. Katie is totally underrated. If she was a bit better on bars she would be right up there and if people saw her routines they would see just how gorgeous and original her presentation is.

    ReplyDelete
  36. thanks to hayley wright katie's floor routine is quite original and beautiful to watch. great choreo and i too believe katie is underrated she has soooo much talent but just needs to channel it more into her training.
and there are some exciting int 8's soon to come from QAS including Tamika Jones (turning 12) and Eden Travit (turning 11 oct)! both with flip layouts and multiple aerial moves on beam, clean bars and also some good floor acrobatics. both are extremely talented and although they are still so young i can definantly see them in the 2016 mix without a doubt, as long as injuries, mentality etc dont get in the way too much.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tamika Jones and Eden Tarvit have tons of potential. If they stay healthy and motivated, they'll do Queensland proud a few years from now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed. They both looked awesome last year at Nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Temika came from Sandgate PCYC and was just starting out at the HPC when i started coaching at S'gate so i didn't get to see a lot of her at the club but she always had that look & focus about her to go further with her gymnastics then what S'gate could affer so awesome to see that she's still doing well. Props to you Temika!!
