Trial and Error

Unfortunately, I won't be attending the second Victorian women's trial tomorrow at the VWHPC.

Notable participants include recent Pacific Rim team members Amelia McGrath and Georgia Wheeler, as well as Queensland's comeback kid Naomi Russell!

If you will be there, I would love any media nuggets and observations you can spare!

  1. Have you left us Mez?
Trial 1 - no Mez, now trial 2!

Hope you are having fun elsewhere.

  2. Much as I would looooooove to sit there happily filming routines again, I'm double-booked for the day!

  3. Vic Champs work order up

    ReplyDelete
  4. Emma Nedov also competed. She did a beautiful backhandspring, backflip to layout (2 feet) on beam and stuck it perfectly! It was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Any scores or other highlights from Vic Trial?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Angela Donald came first and Emma Nedov second in the Jnrs

    ReplyDelete
  7. Amelia McGrath had a lovely floor routine.

    ReplyDelete
  8. so does anyone know the full results ie.1st, 2nd, 3rd in all levels. Who came first out of the seniors???

    ReplyDelete
  9. I thought Naomi was back in QLD right now visiting fam and friends?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Naomi did not compete or appear today. other notable absences included: Isis and Maddie from Jets. Both there but did not compete. Chloe Turko - also attended, no comp. Emma Collister - no sogn at all. Rach competed floor, not sure if she did any other apparatus.

The Germany girls (Emma Nedov, Milly, Georgia-Rose and Angela) were smartly dressed in Aus leotards and tracksuits with Peggy in attendance. She was clealt treating the trial as a bit of a ontrol test for the girls. She spent the time preping them before competing and working on 'between routine' activities which is a greta idea given their inexperience.

Emma's beam was absolutely rock solid. Peggy told her not to hold back before hand and she came through. from memory I think someone said a D score of 5.4?
She had the lovely bhs-bhs to 2 feet - back lo (E) as well as a very nice change to ring (also an E)
Looking at her skills, I'd be surprised if she counted anything under a C on beam.

Ash Brennan is starting to put full routines together. Her form is generally good but she still appears out of shape and doesn;t quite finish her skills off like she did before. This must be adding deductions as it looks messy.

Georgia Wheeler didn't look as solid today. She looked a little fatigued and struggled on floor and beam in places.

The Waverley girls made their first appearance this year.
Georgia looks in good shape with a sky high double pike back to open on floor but Shona and Emma D both seemed to hesitate a little. I also believe that Emma Dennis has grown again! That girl is tall....

All the Waverley girls seemed to vault well with few deductions however their difficulty was low. From memory, Shona and Georgia completed a LO Yurchenko only, Rachel competed a full twisting tsuk, someone completed a yurchenko 1/2, 1/2 - not sure which girl from waverley

Both Laura Hingston and Tierra seem to be developing some muscle on their incredibly long limbs. Hope they can convert this to some power.

Eliza Freedman in IDP6......Talk about tumble! This kid will be fabulous! Her tumbling shows particular talent as it is fast and speeds up! Had an unfortunate exit from one tumble pass but wow! Watch this one.

Zoe (on crutches) and Britt were following groups around and filming. Other cute HPC kids acted as score assistants etc. Not always the best as I believe they flashed all the right numbers for some scores....just not necessarily on the right order. Perhaps they need to reschedule training so they miss less schooling!

Sorry, I think that s all my brain held!

  13. Whoops! 4th AA at senior should have been Ash B!

    ReplyDelete
  14. where are the results up?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wow, it is a total mystery right now which JNR will get to go to the youth olympics! Seems the Pacrim team was upstaged here. It seems to be between E Collister, A Donald, A mcGrath and GRB right now. I think Germany will really count for something.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Slightly off-topic, but the pacific rim championships coverage has just appeared on youtube channel:http://www.youtube.com/user/olympicgymnasticsusa#p/u/6/zs5jXUPjrSw
    Enjoy!!

  17. Emma Nedov's D score on beam was actually a 5.7! it was a brilliant routine from her.

  19. Can anyone tell me about Angela Donald? What skills she is doing, tumbling, vaulting etc? Has she got good floor choreo?

  20. Victoria Qualification Results.

    * IDP 6 has 1 from MLC, 2 from WAGC, 2 from HPC and 1 from Balance

    * IDP 8 has 2 from HPC, 2 from Jets and 1 from MLC.

    Congratulations to gymnasts and coaches!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Does anyone know the actual scores for the juniors going to Germany??

    ReplyDelete
  22. In all this Victorian madness, any news from the WA trial on yesterday? Mitchell, Cooney, Chung and Savvidou were all competing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. does anyone know what tumbling upgrades Amelia is working on? She has been doing the same passes for like a year and she does them with such ease. It seems she is capable of much, much more in this department.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Amelia is working on Full in for Nationals as well as back one & half to front full, front double twist. She added new leaps in the trial yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks sounds great. I hope some of our girls doing front double twists try the front double + split jump combo. It would look awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Apparently GW did yurchenko full on the weekend? and added a toe-full into her bars routine. Also Amelia did her pak on bars as well? but not putting it in for Germany. Were Chloe Turko, Alex Byers or Isobel Looker competing/at the comp? havent heard from any of them in a while..

    ReplyDelete
  27. Chloe, Isobel andI think I saw Alex were all present,

    None competing though

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would like to congratulate Emma and Ping on a fantastic beam,14.5
    OUTSTANDING EFFORT.

    Also congratulations to Waverley
    Angela looks AMAZING,well done also
to her coach on beam, loved the full twisting korbeit.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Shao yi deserves a lot more recognition for her amazing beam routines and coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Alex was not present at trial 2.
She quit, which is quite sad - she had a lot of potential!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Do you mean Aex Buyers Armstrong.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, Alex Byers Armstrong

    ReplyDelete
  33. They finally put the results up.

    Angela 54.75
    Emma 54.6

    Georgia Rose scored very low.
Amelia's bars took her right down in the standings.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Angela scored above 13.5 on every event. Great effort. All she needs now is a decent vault and she will have a chance at the worlds team next year.

    ReplyDelete
  35. How come i can't bring it up on the GV site - i can only see trial 1 results - grrr is it my crappy work internet?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Other noteworthies -

    Tierra beat Amelia

Can any juniors without the surname Collister do anything more difficult than LO yurchenko on vault? Most will be seniors next year!

Emma Dennis had no a-scores above 5.

Brennan and Bonora both have 5.8s on beam.

Shona's difficulty lower than usual, obviously not at full strength. 5.4 on bars, FTY.

    Wheeler had 5.6 on bars.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "All she needs now is a decent vault and she will have a chance at the worlds team next year."

From the looks of things Angela performed a yerchenko layout??? Thats ok?
There aren't too many other aussies with much more dificulty than that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. There is no way in hell Peggy will take a team to worlds and put up a yurchenko layout. It just ain't happening. It is considered an embarrassment for gymnasts from the top 10 nations to compete a yurchenko full at worlds, so go figure.

Also, it would be very foolish not to take good vaulters because other nations will have 3-4 athletes doing 5.8 vaults. You cannot afford to sacrifice that 1.4 per athlete.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Where are the results for Vic trial 2?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Australias vaulting inadequacies were shown up at the PAC Rim where only Emily Little had a decent, competitive vault. The US were much further along than us. I agree, vault is going to be a key. Our jnrs really do need to be doing some bigger vaults!

    ReplyDelete
  41. results are at; (just copy and paste)
    http://www.gymnasticsvictoria.org.au/?Page=15763&MenuID=Events_%40_Results%2F20273%2F12403%2CResults_Archive%2F20276%2F0

    WA results still not up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What vault is worth 4.6? GRB and Tierra both do a 4.6 vault

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nikki Chung did yurchenko 1/1 on weekend

    ReplyDelete
  44. And rumour has it she'll be competing a 2/1 at Nationals...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anybody there for the announcement of Level 7 team yesterday at HPC. Bit of a muck up. Poor kids

    ReplyDelete
  46. The WA results are up.....seems the girls are deffo not at their best yet,as I am sure Chung and Cooney are capable of much higher DV on bars. Lauren competed a 6.2 BB and 5.8 FX, plus a FTY on vault. No bars.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i think tierra and georgia both competed a half-on tuck - briefly saw them being warmed up

    ReplyDelete
  48. Very smart idea getting them doing tucked twisting. Khorkina showed that tall girls can rock vault even if they can't yurchenko as easily.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is anyone going to NSW State Trial 2 this Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes.............I am

    ReplyDelete
  51. QLD trial is next weekend too. Please, anyone going to any of the trials, get vids!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes poor level 7 girls - did they finalise the team in the end - maybe the judges should wait to announce the teams instead of rushing and making mistakes

    ReplyDelete
  53. Does anyone have a copy of the schedule / times for the QLD trial this weekend?? I've looked everywhere!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gymnastics QLD is shocking - they never put anything up only results

    ReplyDelete
  55. I know it is so annoying. Their website is a nightmare for clubs because it's so difficult to navigate and 99% of the pages are empty shells. They seem basically incompetent.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Even the MBC website is out of date! I tried my luck there seeing as the trials are being held there... hopefully someone can give me an answer soon!

    ReplyDelete
  57. whenever i try MBC i only get 2008 details - i get a message saying it wants to run something but as i am at work and completely hopeless at that sort of computer stuff i have no idea if there is a more current website

    ReplyDelete
  58. As far as I can tell, MBC do not have a current website. Very frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anon 8.57
Yes the level 7 team was finalised later that day.

Please remember that it was the Selection Committee/SMC who select and announce the team.

Nothing to do with us judges!

Love a judge today...we need all the help we can get.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow what an awesome lineup for the QLD trial! Hope someone can give us a report/pics/vids/anything! Looks like they can field a team at nationals this year too.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anon 9.39 - thank you so much!

I've only recently moved to Brisbane so I'm not too familiar with the IDP10 and below girls, but will try to report on the performances I watch :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Look out for Katie Wurth and Brittany Boffo. They are both lovely gymnasts.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Where are the Budacks training now? QAS?
