Terribly sorry.
Haven't been able to update results or link to pictures or anything like that.
Having technical difficulties at the moment and as such am currently lumped with the world's most slovenly PC. I swear, computers in our house know to pack it in around Nationals time every year. I'm going mad!
I'll try and get things into gear by tomorrow afternoon.
VIC LEVEL 10 TEAM 1st in AUSTRALIA!!!! WELL DONE GIRLS & COACHES!!!
ReplyDeleteGo Victoria, blitzed the other teams and won by 12 marks!
ReplyDeleteI will have to offer my IT technical skills next time I am in your neck of the wood.
ReplyDeleteBit off topic again but Alex Croak had to pull out of comm games trials due to a back injury meaning she ll be relying on selecters discretition and others messing up to make the team. Get well soon Alex!
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Alex Croak, she'll be going to Comm Games as Mel Wu's synchro partner as only one team had the results to qualify at trials and there are two slots available, so the petition for inclusion should be successful. Whether she gets an individual berth remains to be seen.
ReplyDeleteQueensland are doing a terrific job. Congrats girls!
ReplyDeleteYes they are. I saw some of their IDP girls in training today and they look great too. Maybe Nationals should be held in Queensland once it leaves Perth. succesful states should be rewarded.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great. I've been involved with gymnastics for about 20 years, and have never seen elite WAG nationals in Brisbane. They've had National Clubs, Levels Nationals, MAG/RG/ACR/TRP (possibly AER too) nationals and a few trials for international events, but never actual WAG nationals for the international levels. Strange?!
ReplyDeleteQLD would be great! Where did they hold Goodwill Games in Brisbane in (I think) 2001? Would that be a suitable venue for Nationals?
ReplyDeleteThere was a small article in the Age sports saying "Injured gymnasts Emily Little and Lauren Mitchell are all but guaranteed to make the Commonwealth Games team despite missing the selection trials in Perth starting today. Women's head coach Peggy Liddick said they had met most of the criteria already".
ReplyDeleteLiv Viv won level 10 by 4 whole marks. Good on her! So great to see her put in the effort to compete. She got beaten to the gold on bars though... maybe the NCAA recruiters should be having a little look at some of these girls?!
ReplyDeleteFYI

ReplyDeleteI've always wondered if the lack of a suitable venue was the issue with having WAG elite nationals in Brisbane.
Goodwill Games was at the Convention and Exhibition centre, which is a fantastic venue - but BIG, and I'm sure would be far too expensive.
Chandler Arena isn't really ideal. Nationals is a little too big for that venue. There are numerous other venues, but again, probably too small.
I think the best could be the smaller arena at the Entertainment Centre. Acro, Aerobics and Cheer states were held there (all together) awhile back, and Tramp nationals has been there too.
Good on Olivia for still competing and enjoying gymnastics but I feel for the National level 10 girls who train and compete in the National level program. They have had to go thru the normal stressfull selection trials to be selected to thier state teams. They have not had the same opportunities that Olivia has had as an Elite gymnast. If she wanted to compete I feel it should have been where she left off, in the elite stream.Or would that have created to much controversy if she was as good as the CWG trialists? Instead as a "blow in" for GWA's effort to put a team together she takes the title from the National level girls.
ReplyDeleteto Anon 11:03 AM (above) you do have a point however those nat level 10 girls did a great job keeping up with her, Olivia only won the AA and beamm she came 2nd UB her pet event, 2nd FX and 5th VT. The other level 10's held there own.
ReplyDeleteNo I disagree about her having to compete elite- the rules say if you have a year out you can go back to levels and that is a good rule. She's followed it because NCAA isn't elite. Also the girls who beat her could probably be extra proud they beat an olympian.
ReplyDeletePlus also, noone really complained when Chloe Sims had her go last year...
Britt must have pulled out - she is not in any of the team photos.
ReplyDeleteYep Olivia won beam nicely but go Tayla (Vic - L10 Vault Champion), Rach (Vic - L10 Bars Champion and Meg (Vic - L10 Floor Champion) - you guys were awesome! Especially Rach for two outstanding bars routines!
ReplyDeleteOlivia had some great connection on the low bar - glide kip, cast h/s, stalder h/st, clear hip h/s (a bit short on the 1st day i think), toe-on toe-off h/s, toe-on toe off full, stalder hiccup, long kip, cast h/s, giant, giant, flyway half.
But Rachel's had all the composition requirements and was neat and tight and awesome.
Congratulations to all the girls who competed in the Nationals division!!
