So it's the morning after the night before, so to speak (at 8:30 in the evening...). Read Waverley's take on their new gymnastics superstar here. Read an Australian Olympic Committee article here. Some ace photos in there. Apparently Angela got a mention on radio this morning, too!
A cute article from the Sydney Morning Herald is here.
"I can't believe it, it's weird but it's great."Eagle-eyed Victorians might have spotted Angela's name in the sports listings in the Herald Sun today; unfortunately she was listed as a medallist on bars, not beam!
Our thoughts go out to Brody-Jai Hennessy who, despite a mistake that resulted in a last place finish on his signature event, showed great poise and sportsmanship by getting back up on the bar and finishing his routine. That's a determined athlete right there. And to demonstrate that at your very first overseas competition shows that you'll handle any knock that comes at you along your journey.
Trampolinist Madeleine Johnson finished a creditable 6th in the women's tramp final at the Games.
We await news of our rhythmic gymnastics team's performances. Best of luck to our remaining gymsporters!
Good on you Angela!
ReplyDeleteDo you think it is misprint in one of the articles about her training 5 days a week? Normally the elites train 6...anyone know whether the Waverley girls train slightly less? Good on them if they do - I always think some of the elites could drop one session a week - I think it would make a difference energy wise.
I still can't find any video of Ange in EF's...could anyone possibily please help me out?
ReplyDeleteange trains 5 days a week with wednesdays and sundays off. 28 and a half hours i believe.
ReplyDeleteAng trains 5 days a week John and Shao YI squad has Wednesday off.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS TO ANG AND EVERY ONE AT WAVERLEY.
I think it is a bit premature that Angela's coach is confident that she will be selected for the 2012 Olympics.
ReplyDeleteSooooo much can happen in week, never mind 2 years.
I also read in Georgia Wheelers article that she is so excited about going to India? Do the reserves travel?
I didn't think they did.
Does any one know anything about how the Worlds trial will work? Will they be selecting the team here after the trial or are they just selecting a travelling squad to train in Rotterdam and then selecting from there when the CWG girls join them.
ReplyDeleteDid GA ever announce another reserve for CWG after Shona retired?
The only CWG reserve that has been named is Georgia Wheeler - she was originally 2nd reserve. There is a second trial during the camp which will be held between 12/9-3/10 and the team will be chosen then - 7 will go to Roterdam. Don't know if GA will take anymore girls like they did last year for Worlds when they took a shadow squad to take part in some minor competitions
ReplyDeleteDoes this camp go for nearly 3 weeks?
ReplyDelete12/9 - 3/10? The 7 that go to Rotterdam, does that include the CWG squad or is the 7 on top of the 5 that are goind to Delhi?
Those are the dates for camp listed in the selection criteria but i don't know if it's a date range or the actual camp dates. The seven for Rotterdam will be chosen from the 12 on the squad which includes the 5 CWG team. I assume from previous news and conversations that Peggy is sending the same 5 girls from CWG to Worlds and that another 2 will be chosen to meet them in Rotterdam - further to that i don't know.
ReplyDeleteI thought three extra gymnasts were joining the CWG team in Rotterdam?
ReplyDeleteI though both reserves for CWG are non-travelling, if there are two and not just Georgia Wheeler now.
Does anyone know what happened at the recent junior camp? Where there any upgrades?
does anyone have an update on how lauren and emily are doing in training? i really hope they are ok because we need them!
ReplyDeletefrom the VWHPC
ReplyDeleteThe following girls took part in the National Junior Camp at the AIS in Canberra from the 15th - 20th August:
Laura Hingston, Ebonie Boucher, Alexandra Eade, Grace Flood, Madelaine Leydin, Georgia-Rose Brown, Tierra Exum, Svetlana Sanders.
Congratulations to all the girls who took part the Junior Camp. The camp was a great success for all the VWHPC athletes, giving them the opportunity to show their improvements and upgrades on all apparatus.
A few standouts; Laura Hingston – inside stalders on wooden bar, Tierra Exum – yuchenko ½ on to pike 1/2 , Georgia-Rose Brown – r/off double tuck dismount off beam, Svetlana Sanders – inside stalder pivots, Ebonie Boucher – yuchenko layout 1/1, Alex Eade – double layout dismount off bars, Maddi Leydin – Tkatchev, Grace Flood – pike full in.
Thanks. I wish some of the other programs would put up information about their girls.
ReplyDeletesounds like to me that they already have selected the worlds team if the 5 from CWG are on the team + Georgia Wheeler as reserve (she has already stated she is going) + 1 more, which I'm sure they would have already chosen that person. So why the trial?
ReplyDeleteCan someone from Waverley suggest to the person responsible for web updates that they perform a spell check / proof read before uploading? The word is "magnificent" - i.e. with an "e".
ReplyDeleteThe Spell police are out again
ReplyDeleteGet over it!
Excuse me? Get over it? Why? Do you like the fact that spelling errors such as these make organisations seem juvenile and moronic? Spelling is important - YOU need to accept this if you ever want to be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's not being uptight to expect basic words to be spelt correctly. My opinion of an organisation is automatically lowered by spelling mistakes- it creates an impression of haphazardness, lack of attention to detail and at worst stupidity.
ReplyDeleteExactly, spelling mistakes do not make organisations look good, simple proof reading can cut most of these mistakes.
ReplyDeleteWOW, calling Waverley 'juvenile and moronic' over a simple typo is a little harsh!
ReplyDeleteI find it hilarious that you would be bothered to report their typo on this website in the first place! After reading the article you could have come here to congratulate Angela and Waverley, but no! You point out the one slight flaw in their article! How very amusing!
If anyone is interested, I am still desperately hoping to see some EF footage of Angela...
ReplyDeleteTry this you tube account http://www.youtube.com/user/AndromedaAiken#p/u/8/HSmni35Vzd0
ReplyDeleteAlso have a look at Mistysakura and Yangbofan
I suspect Anonymous (August 25, 2010 7:07 PM) is Waverley's web master - either that or (s)he's been corrected for juvenile spelling on more than one occasion. (S)he's being way too defensive and protesting way too much.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I HAVE congratulated Angela - that's not the point.
You think we should ignore spelling and grammatical errors? I can't think of a single reason why they should be ignored. If you're representing an organisation, you have a responsibility to do it properly. A little bit of proof reading (including a spell check) is not difficult.
There is a small article in Berwick News on Ash Brennan linK can be found at GA. ApparentlY who is competing what at CWG will be decided after the girls perform their routines on 12 Sept.
ReplyDeleteAngela's EF BB is on http://www.youtholympics.org/ under "Video on Demand".
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Angela for her magnificent achievement (note spelling of 'magnificent'). :P
