Rotterdam 2010: Apparatus Finals Day 1

Best wishes to Australia's sole representative in the first night of appratus finals, Prashanth Sellathurai.

Prashanth will be competing second in the final and is looking to equal (or better) his bronze medal from London 2009.

10:00pm AEDST (1:00pm Rotterdam time) should be when the action kicks off.

The start list for the final (plus the other finals startlists) is here.

You can follow a live feed from the event here. It worked very well last night!

The boys have marched out - Prash is definitely the shortest one there. By a lot! He'll once again be facing stiff competition from Smith of Great Britain and Berki of Hungary.

Berki's up first, then our little fella.

Here we go! Works extremely quickly but maintains good form throughout. Leg form erros going into the dismount but sticks it.

"Circles, to cscissors to HS, russians between pommels, stockli on one pommel , stockli, spindle on the side, Wu Guonian (high), russians on the end, Magyar, Sivado, 2/1 pirouette to dismount. Good. D : 6.6; E : 8.966 ; 15.566"

European commentators call him "spectacularrrrrr!!!" Got a handshake from the Slovenian as he left the podium.

15.566 goes into second. (6.6 a-score). Aussie supporters in the crowd are cheering and chanting!

Louis Smith bumps Prash into 3rd... can he cling on for the bronze???

Results are in...

PRASHANTH SELLATHURAI WINS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BRONZE!!!

Big hug and kind words from Berki. Prashanth defends his bronze from London!

WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!

  7. I'm having absolute trouble with ALL the feeds tonight. Either they don't work at all or they buffer every ten seconds. Grrr!

We've had men's FX and women's VT is just about finished so pommel should be next!

  9. wish i could understand russian .. the russian coaches were frantically filling out a form. can you protest scores at worlds!?

    ReplyDelete
  10. yeah i think you can do protests. they are unhappy about Nabieva's score I think.

hey guys use this one of none of the others is working.

    ReplyDelete
  12. they were protesting Nabieva's score. the russian coach was talking to the judges in English but still hard to hear. i'm assuming it had to with the dodgy rotation on the 2nd vault.

  13. did anyone get to see Mustafina's vaults? what happened with the second vault?
Do you think she should be below Sacramone? CD

  15. Very good routine by Prashanth. Does anyone else think he was underscored and should be in the lead right now?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mustafina's second vault was messy. there was more pike than layout to it.

Prasanth just did a fabulous routine- thought he was going to take off he spun so fast. in 2nd 15.6

  17. Sacromone was best. Powerful, tidy, stuck landings. she's the deserved winner.

Special notes to Barbarosa who was SO ecstatic to get bronze and to Kaeslin who was SO sad to get knocked out of the bronze by a hair's breadth.

  18. Very happy for A.Sac. Mustafina's second vault was very piked and did deserve the mark down. The Aus girls should learn some second vaults. A DTY and a front pike half would've been enough for Lauren and Emily to qualify.

  19. Prashanthstill in second with 3 guys to go. Two of those three could outscore him buthe's looking very good for a medal right now.

  20. I can't believe Lois Smith from GBR knocked Prashanth into 3rd. How slow was he on the Pommel. Prashanth left him for dead. This judging is a bit suss!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Prash is edged out by Louis smith to 3rd position with 2 competitors to go.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed! Smith also has some shoddy form too. Prashanth's E score was only 1.33 higher, seems wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bronze for Prashanth. I think he deserved higher but well done. Fantastic performance!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. the aus girls stopped training second vaults because of how close cws and worlds were together - it would have taken away too much time from the other events

  25. He fell on bars!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Probably you already know about that but searching the web I've found this http://www.australianews.com.au/australia/queensland/darlingdowns/toowoomba/story?cityid=9901bdf5-f527-4b68-852d-149172949fd4&storyid=0e5d97f5-b512-4c95-873d-8c526bf31361 Wow! it would be great to see her in London!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Beth just completed an AMAZING bars set, hit everything complete with a stuck double double dismount!
    15.733/8.933E

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sloan mught end up on the podium with the 2 chinese falling, great routine and fought for her stuck double layout!
14.686 in second, Mustafina up next

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mustafina, few steps on dismount will overtake sloan.
    15.60/8.8 E

    ReplyDelete
  30. Seitz fell on def and toe on tkatchev, stuck full in. Very upset.
    10.466/6.2 E

  31. Good routine from Porgras. May challenge Sloan for bronze. Izbsaza very happy for her! Lots of smiles!

  34. Well done Prashanth, first Australian gymnast to win three world championship medals.
Whilst it seems as though most women gymnasts perform better in their teens tonight proved otherwise. Alicia Sacramone is nearly 23 and finally won a world vault title after consecutive minor medals 05-07. Beth Tweddle at 25 wins third world championship gold, well done.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Haha how tiny does Prashanth look in the medal ceremony.

    ReplyDelete
  36. well chloe could certainly help on vault and bars

I'm more interested in Joura though, I wish she was coming back too

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is there no chance for her?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Big congratulations to Prashanth! I wonder if we'll hear anything about his achievements in the Australian media today?

  39. Interview with Prashanth up on Gymnastike - http://www.gymnastike.org/video

    ReplyDelete
  40. What a night.
    - So thrilled for Alicia. Her form was near perfect.
    - So thrilled for Beth. She has the most complex beautiful routine and she seems so gracious on the podium.
    - Great Britain has a VERY strong team these days - particularly their men.
    - And VERY happy for Prasanth. He is SOOO tiny. I am amazed by his height. Does anyone know how tall he is? He's like a perfectly proportioned miniature person.
    - Sad for He Kexin. Heartbreaking for her to fall on her pet event.

    ReplyDelete
  41. According to his FIG profile, Prashanth is 151 cm.

  42. Thanks Anon. He really is tiny, isn't he. I'm short but I've got 12 cm on him!

  43. Glad to hear Chloe might be back, although I got excited thinking the article was about Dasha. Chloe was great, but Dasha was one of a kind.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why is Dasha brought up in every thread? Seriously, if she was coming back, she would have done it by now.

We would all love to see her back, but it is time to move on and accept that unfortunately she has moved on too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dasha is not brought up on every thread, that is clearly an aggeration. I agree it is time to move on, she is not coming back but I guess because there was been nothing official about her retirement some people still hope that she may return. I think her recovery from surgery was far longer than initially thought and considering she hadn't been able to train for a long time before her surgery she had been out so long and moved on with her life, understandably so.

    ReplyDelete
  46. exaggeration i meant

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeh, I agree the chances are pretty much zero this long after everything. Hopefully there will be an official announcement sometime so it can be put to rest.

I find that whenever there is a thread on Aussie gym on international gym boards, the first thing people ask is about how Dasha is doing because she has so many fans. It would be good to be able to give a definitive answer.
