The Mitchell household is going to need a bigger pool room!

Lauren Mitchell was last night awarded WA's ANZ Sports Star of the Year Award. Not only that but her coaches Martine and Nikolai were awarded joint WA Coaches of the Year!

Congratulations WAIS!

  1. What a magnificent effort by all at WAIS in Western Australia.

  2. Great news for Lauren, on a sadder note, Emma Dennis has retired

  3. Well I think that was to be expected. She has not really done anything since prior to beijng

  5. Has anyone heard any news from camp? A big jnr/snr WG one started on Saturday.

  6. well you definitely won't get anything from GA as I heard that their office is now closed for 3 weeks. I would be interested to hear which new juniors were invited and also about any assignments given out.

A while back I heard that WOGA Classic was under consideration for some of the 1995 ladies.

In my opinion the best and most promising athlete of that group to have not had any international experience is Wurth, since she has medalled on all 4 individual events across nationals/national clubs and showed huge improvements recently. I would really like her to get an Aussie leo. I also think Sanders and King Koi need to be given an international opportunity.

Still, they always seem to go for the same core group of Nedov/McGrath/Brown/Donald unless they are injured or not prepared.

If there are any spots up for grabs it will be interesting to see who gets them especially since McGrath was beaten by Chung and Wurth a couple of weeks ago.

  9. Thanks for the heads-up about the videos of Luke, Anon @ 11.29.

There are also some videos of Sam Offord available from the same Youtube user.

Luke's rings dismount looks really interesting. Is that a triple twisting double back?

  10. I would love for a team of Georgia Simpson, Zoe Lorenzin, Katie Wurth and Ashley Cooney to go to the USA.

  11. That would be a great team.. but with Amelia instead of Zoe. I am desperate to see more of that girl, so insanely talented!

  12. I think Georgia and Zoe could do with the experience but as Zoe is obviously still rebuilding her program I doubt she would get an assignment that early in the year also is Georgia injured? She didn't go to France or national clubs or camp, I believe. I would like to see these 2, britt and hopefully soon Maryanne as I think they really need to get their names out there

  13. I would like to see Amelia after a couple more months as she seems to have lost a but of her quality which I assume is because she is learning some new skills or has had a growth spurt and needs to get used to it. Some time in the gym training and not competing will benefit her greatly

  14. Amelia is a beautiful gymnast and it would be great to see more of her. It was disappointing that there were hardly any seniors at National Clubs.
I think Zoe still needs to make some upgrades, I don't think she has her bars yet as she didn't compete them at NC.Give her 6 - 12 months. Can't wait to see Maryanne Monkton in 2011, where is she going to train as I think this will have a great impact.

  15. WOW there are so many girls that can be ready for 2012, I hope they focus on all. This being a sport with so many injuries we would want to make sure that we prepare as many as possible to keep our best options open. Maybe we need to get some reinforcements and increase our coach base with the extra funding..... so we can make more Champions.

  16. Is this Olivia Vivian?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh_wGGjwmEg

She has to leap off the top of a car over a ZOMBIE?

  17. Gosh I will be so shitty if it turns out that worlds was the only chance we had to see Georgia Simpson compete. If she is injured again that is awful.

  18. To anon at 11 - anon at 9.21 did say that Zoe was still rebuilding and that is correct she is still coming back from a serious knee injury and you won't see her full set of skills for a couple of months yet. She has her bars but i am unsure as to why she didn't compete them at NC - her tkachev's are super high

  19. I don't suppose you might know what Zoe plans to be vaulting? I think that event is really going to determine team placings next year, as we still need two strong vaults after Little and Mitchell.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree, Vault is where our team lacks. So the team will need consist of strong vaulters to maintain, or improve our ranking.

  21. I think bars is our weakness!!! apart from Mary-Anne and Larissa we dont anyone near 6.0 start values!!! with Vualt we have 4 strong DTY's

    ReplyDelete
  22. At Canberra camp Zoe was training a DTY but not sure what other vault. From where i was Bars dismount looked like a DLO but it looked like she was working a twist in there - not too sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anything else from the camp??? On anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mary-Anne is moving to HPC

    ReplyDelete
  25. which HPC?? QAS?? VWHPC??

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Mary Anne went to VWHPC

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon at 2:04, besides Lauren and Emily, who have the other 2 DTYs? I certainly haven't seen any to suggest we have 4 strong DTYs.

I am not too worried about bars. Chung, Joura and Brown all look to be potentially strong by 2012. They are all scoring near 14 now with good routines. Zoe and Mary-Anne are also nice on bars. Cooney too if she is not retired, and hopefully Larrissa will keep improving.

  28. Anonymous at 3:18 thankkkyyyoou! Good news about Zoe on vault, because she is gonna need it come October next year to ensure herself a spot.

Can you please give us any other tidbits you remember? Any other good DTY vaults or cool skills being worked on in general? Any big tumbles?

  29. Has Peggy given the girls any international assignments for next year?

    ReplyDelete
  30. so Simpson wasn't even at camp? That's a bad sign. I hope she is alright.

  31. Yes Mary Anne is moving to the HPC in Victoria, but apparently without her family! What a tough move for her, but hopefully it will pay off.
