It's about the (small but growing!) movement of Australian NCAA fans; and how we've been really excited and proud watching former national team members pursue college gymnastics.
I could, really, just post the body of the article here, hey! IG included a headshot of me (turned out ok for something done in a hurry on my phone!) and an arty shot of a collegiate gymnast saluting. And what was cool was... they printed it "as is" - no editing for length, no paraphrasing, no substitution of cultural references... a full page of every single word I sent them!
Yeah pretty amazing and 2016 eligible too. Goes senior in 2013! Hope they pace her she is amazing. There is always someone better and younger coming along in this sport.
Women's Health Magazine has a feature this month about mentors where they speak to Alex Croak and her mentor Ju Ping! Its a very nice piece if you manage to see it!
she is looking great! my family went up to brisbane and I popped in to see how the qas was going, from what I saw she was doing a rudi (I think its called that) same vault as Sacramone of USA. she was doing it into pit. Her bars looked really good lots on combinations into release. Floor lots of double saults into pit with mats and beam. I saw her do a two foot layout on low beam. So I think she is on track! :) thats all I can say sorry for no real information.
thankyou for the info. I wonder if she might try and qualify for nationals this year or whether she might wait till national clubs. I think if she wants PLid to take her seriously for 2012 she can't delay it too long.
Sounds like she has been back training for a while now if this article was from October. She said back then that 2011 worlds was her goal so if it still is she will have to compete at nationals in July and the meets to qualify for nationals beforehand. Personally, I think it's cool. She plugs a huge hole being great on bars and vault.
It was actually updated today after a long hiatus to say that she is still training and has just picked new floor music.
She looks pretty fit in the pics that seem to be recent. There is one of her doing an awesome upside-down flex move on beam which I would love to see on the competition floor.
The great thing about Chloe was that she was both powerful and flexible. The only thing seemingly holding her back last time was her attitude but a new mature and focused Chloe with the benefit of hindsight could have a lot of promise I think.
Chloe's departure from elite originally seemed a little bitter so I'd be surprised if she went back to her old coaches. It seems more logical for her to make a fresh start at QAS.
Depends what her gymnastics looks like I expect. I for one couldn't care less. I'd imagine the piercings would have to come out. What do you mean by "heavily tatooed". She isn't the only gymnast with a tatoo.
Well since competition leos have long sleeves i doubt we'll see them. if we did I don't see the big deal. I hope she makes a successful comback, all the best Chloe.
As I said before I did see Katie and Natalia as well. Katie looked good on bars did lots of full routines. And I saw her do a yuchenko 1.5 onto high mats into pit. I didnt see Natlia do much she looked heality tapped up. However 1 skill I saw her do on bars whcih looked great was a shap 1/2 with spot though :)
I say go for it Chloe! If she can do her routines then who cares about how she looks. She can always wear long sleeved leos - it's not like the Aussies ever wear sleeveless in comps anyway.
I would say to people - give her another chance. Everyone knows she was not great for the team vibe before and rather rebellious - but obviously this is something she wants and she knows perfectly well the standards that will be required of her should she make the national team. She is doing this for herself and has been able to make that choice as an adult this time so I'm sure she is willing to comply.
Sacramone had to cover the tattoo on the back of her neck with some tape. The arm tattooes will be covered by her leo so I don't think that's a problem.
Her comments in this article are interesting http://www.intlgymnast.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1037:sims-reconciles-frustrations-sets-sites-on-studies&catid=2:news&Itemid=53
I guess only time wil tell if she's welcomed back. A Rudi and 6.0+ UB D score wouldn't hurt. Her form was never great so hopefully she can clean that up too.
hopefully everyone can forget the bad moments of the past and move on. It seems Chloe is willing to let go of the perceived injustices and bad experiences so I hope TPTB have the same positive and mature attitude and welcome her return.
It's so encouraging to see so many veterans continuing with such obvious passion for the sport. For the first time in ages, it seems we will have actual depth!
One of the main reasons i believe she isnt at MBC is becuase she wouldnt just be representing the gym but the school and Moreton Bay college sadly dont approve of tats...
I am really excited to see Emily at Wild Rose. I get the vibe that last year was just the tip of the iceberg and I think we will see some great things from her this year.
She has steadily improved all areas of her gymnastics and her fitness over the past year and was looking great in October. By the time of the meet it will be 5 months on, and I really hope to see some cool new upgrades and additions.
I also can't wait to see the Brittster back on the floor! I have missed her gym and her sass this past year.
I do wish they would ask more relevant questions about gymnastics, like skills they are working on. As much as I love to know whether or not they like Masterchef, it's not really why we're watching.
I will be verrrrrrrrrrryyyyyy curious to see how Britt and Tierra do. Can they prove themselves?
GRB is always a joy to watch, and Emily - the previous poster was right - I think she's going to impress us this year.
And Katie Wurth - great to see the QLD girls finally getting given a chance. Are they all improving under the Joura's? I heard some unhappy reports about their coaching approach, but maybe it is working?
Vladimir Zakarov is the best coach they have there in Queensland, he always will be. those brilliant little ones coming through such as tamika and eden and rihannon are not brilliant because of the Joura's but because of him. they move to the jouras group once they hit a certain level but most/all of what they can do and have learned was with him. he is a smart and experienced coach who actually really cares about his gymnasts and doesnt get the recognition he deserves. i hope u are all aware that he coached several olympians from Qld and also in russia. vlad will always be my favorite
march 11 2:51 that was many years ago and due to reasons you do not know or understand!. how dare you be so rude, what happened was wrong but some people struggle in high pressure situations.im not saying what happened back then should be forgotten but there is no need for disrespect. you are being very disrespectful to a great man, who acknowledged the mistakes he made back then and deeply regrets and that however is not the reason he did not apply for head coach. his ban was 2 years, but he decided he did not want to coach at that level again due to the health issues it ivoked. he obviously is still an amazing coach no matter the past and you need to get over it!
Obviously the only people that think he isn't a good coach are from the parents who hold grudges against him as their children couldn't cope with his way of training... My child has trained under Vlad and although she isn't doing gymnastics now he was one of the best coaches that she ever had.. Some parents need to stop living their dream through their children and get over the fact that maybe their children didn't want to do gymnastics at such a high level in the first place.. The children that are still there and train under Vlad are very talented girls and they deserve to have a coach like Vlad and he does deserve to get more recognition for his efforts.. To the mum who said he wasn't a good coach obviously your child isn't there anymore and you should stop holding a grudge because I bet when she was there you thought he was the best coach.. GET OVER IT and be happy for the other kids that are there and are happy ...
I am horrified at a couple of these comments! Vlad Z, you rock you taught me well(i learnt from the best) and i hope you continue to teach the best to ur future gymnasts :) AF
That is right time will tell. And I can tell you that there will be a few heads turned on how good the young ones are coming through under him. All the coaches there are great and very professional.
Yes I know that not many make it that far but if you have a club full of them there is a good chance you will get at least one. I am just curious as to why you think he isn't a good coach.
Yes QAS has many up and coming little ones coming through which is good to see... Cant wait to watch the comps this year to see some of the talent like Eden, Tamika, Boffo... Does any one know what levels all the girls are now at
yes i am curious as to why you dont think he is good/like him too??? it seems you can barely speak english, looking at your comments! do u even know this man are ever trained under him or are you just a hater that cant speak english properly (are you russian and holding a grudge??) hmmmmm
I agree, Vlad Z is the best coach there is , and probably ever will be...Not one of those little girls, past and present would be where they are today without such an amazing coach who has so much passion and dedication to his sport. But lets not forget, that all these girls Tamika, Grace , Rhianna, Eden are amazing talented girls who work extremly hard to get where they are today..
is there any way we can read it online?
ReplyDeleteYou *may* be able to view the "My Story" page as a preview of the digital edition.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise... unfortunately no, not for free there ain't!
What is it about, Mez? Can you give us the gist?

ReplyDeletehas anyone heard anything about how Chloe Sims' comeback is going?

ReplyDeletewtf? since when is chloe sims making a comeback?
ReplyDeleteI think it was buried in all the worlds craziness but here is an article about it:

Chloe also has a facebook page where you can follow her comeback. It would be great if Aussie fans could friend her to show their support.

anon at 12:20, your information was great. I don't suppose you noticed what Katie/Natalia et al were working on?
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't she from MBC?
ReplyDeleteChloe's departure from elite originally seemed a little bitter so I'd be surprised if she went back to her old coaches. It seems more logical for her to make a fresh start at QAS.
ReplyDeleteHow will the elite gym community perceive a heavily tattooed and pierced Sims I wonder??
ReplyDeleteDepends what her gymnastics looks like I expect. I for one couldn't care less. I'd imagine the piercings would have to come out. What do you mean by "heavily tatooed". She isn't the only gymnast with a tatoo.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Why on earth should it matter? Like all gymnasts, she would have to take any piercings out for comps, anyway.
ReplyDeleteShe has a full sleeve of tattoos
ReplyDeleteAgain -- so?
ReplyDeleteWell since competition leos have long sleeves i doubt we'll see them. if we did I don't see the big deal. I hope she makes a successful comback, all the best Chloe.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before I did see Katie and Natalia as well. Katie looked good on bars did lots of full routines. And I saw her do a yuchenko 1.5 onto high mats into pit. Glad to see Nat doing shap 1/2 too!
Long sleeves will not be sufficient to cover the tattoos.
ReplyDeletecouldn't she use flesh coloured bandages?
ReplyDeletebottom line is, if she turns up with some crazy vault like a rudi and a high dv UB they cannot afford to turn her down. They will find a way.
She also has tatoos on both legs. Thats a lot of tape needed to cover it up I would think.
ReplyDeletedo you guys think she would have discussed her comeback with Peggy yet? I dunno, if it was gonna be a problem, wouldn't that have come up already?
ReplyDeleteSacramone had to cover the tattoo on the back of her neck with some tape. The arm tattooes will be covered by her leo so I don't think that's a problem.

ReplyDeletehopefully everyone can forget the bad moments of the past and move on. It seems Chloe is willing to let go of the perceived injustices and bad experiences so I hope TPTB have the same positive and mature attitude and welcome her return.
ReplyDeleteChloe Sims looks fantastic in recent photos! Very, very slim though! I wish her all the best in her comeback - I think we could definitely use her :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so encouraging to see so many veterans continuing with such obvious passion for the sport. For the first time in ages, it seems we will have actual depth!
ReplyDeleteOne of the main reasons i believe she isnt at MBC is becuase she wouldnt just be representing the gym but the school and Moreton Bay college sadly dont approve of tats...
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't she wayyyyyy past school ages anyways? or do they continue to train gymnasts at their facility even if they don't attend the school?
ReplyDeleteThey can train there till whatever age. Same as MLC and I'm sure other gym clubs like that.
ReplyDeleteGA has uploaded a new video profile of Eden Tarvit. She has a full twisting yurcehnko at 11 years old!
ReplyDeleteWild Rose officially announced:
ReplyDeleteGeorgia-Rose Brown, Britt Greeley, Tierra Exum, Emily Little, Katie Wurth
No Simpson or Donald :( Damn
No personal coach with Emma Nedov, on her overseas trip?
ReplyDeleteCould anon February 28, 2011 11:32 PM post the link to Eden's profile please
ReplyDeleteGo Tierra.

what approach was that exactly?
ReplyDeletewell judging by that video at least Eden seems to like them!
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though, Katie Wurth has definitely improved a ton under them. Her beam at national clubs was beautiful
