Anything Goes

It is extremely interesting to watch the dynamics among the senior programs at the moment.

Women's national coach Peggy Liddick has spoken to International Gymnast magazine over the exciting and enigmatic return of Queensland's Chloe Sims, as our Japan Cup delegation starts to head home.

GA are talking up the MAG national championships, which are just around the corner in Canberra. After the 2010 Pacific Rim event introduced us to some new faces, Nationals 2011 will see seasoned veterans face off against the new generation, and I have to say we seem have more depth than ever before on each apparatus!

Who's ironing their excited trousers??? I know I am!

  1. The draw for worlds is out. Australia in subdivision 3 of 10. Starting on beam which isn't the best event to start on.

  2. yowza what a shocker! Guess you've just gotta make the most of what you're given. It could be a very nervous wait to see if we make the top 8.

  3. Not a fun event to start on for sure, but one Australia should probably get used to and train for.

In team finals situations, it's almost guaranteed that some combination of Russia, USA, China and Romania will be top four and starting on vault and bars.

As a second tier team, Australia always seems to have to start on either beam or floor.

    So I say, embrace it!

  4. Do think this will make it tricky for Lauren to qualify for BB finals, though. Maybe FX as well.

  5. If she hits her routines Lauren should qualify for both finals even with her starting on beam. It's if she makes a couple of small mistakes that it gets harder to say. Last yeah she had a big wobble on her back layout on beam and an OOB on floor and she still qualified fifth for both.

Beam was Australia's storngest event last year in qualifications. If the girls can hit all their routines it could set them up well for the other three events having survived beam.

Romania is in subdivision 2 and also start on beam which could force the judges to start being more lenient with beam scoring earlier on seeing as they'll want Porgras and perhaps Ponor/Racea to qualify to EF.

  6. omg subdivision 3 and on beam!

Probably should expect 11s and 12s on beam for hit routines!

  7. Yes I agree, not thrilled but they can prepare for it, we have to have hope.
Has a nationals draw been released? I can only find the schedule..

  8. Oh, the girls will be fine. They've had worse draws before.

Does anyone know the men's draw?? They are a bigger concern... Prashanth NEEDS to be an Olympian!!

  13. There an article in the Brisbane Sunday Mail about Chloe, its about athletes with tattos. Its only a small piece with a pic. She just says that shes making a comback for the 2012 olympics :)

  14. Have a huge dislike for tattoos on young girls, she must look like a mummy wrapped in tape trying to cover them. Not really what you want to see on the gymnastics floor.Sort of doesn't go with the elegance of the sport.Either does short hair, sorry.

  15. The only word for Tattoos on young women is YUK! Tattoos are for people who like to draw attention to themselves.

  16. Dear anon 7:49,or should I say Chloe.More self promotion? Can't find the article.Must be small.

  17. Surely what an athlete (or anyone else) does with their personal appearance is their own business? Not a fan of stereotyping people based on their appearance either.

  18. Anon 8:57 A lot of elegant gymnasts of the past have had short hair... Just look at Khorkina!

  19. OMG. Go back to the 1950's please. There is no way this discussion would be happening if the athletes were male.

  20. I agree. It's about time we had someone out on the floor with a bit of attitude. The sport needs different personalities and Chloe certainly has a big one. Give the girl a break. I saw her compete at States and the tattoos were easily covered. Not all gymnasts need to be conservative nerds. She has that oomph that the Australian team currently lack.
