2011 Worlds: Pick of the Pics

It will be a nervous wait to see if Australia has qualified to the team final (and London Olympics) today. So, have yourself some pretty distractions in the meantime!

Unwatermarked press photos from Daylife/Getty are here.

The Gym Examiner has a gallery of Brigid's photos here.

Gymnastike has the Lauren Mitchell interview from a different side here (with bonus background Peggy!)

Gymnastics Australia have also added photos to their World Championships 2011 album at Facebook.

Update 8:26pm

Word is, the Monckton has been approved for the Code of Points!

There are some Australia photos in the event's Facebook gallery

Update 9:06pm

I am being distracted from James Nesbitt's lovely face to inform you that we're still in 5th going into the last subdivision so to all intents and purposes... AUSTRALIA'S INTO THE TEAM FINAL!

Update 9:19 With the second-to-last subdiv officially over, and only three full teams remaining in the last, I can confirm WE'RE IN WE'RE IN WE'RE IN WE'RE IN WE'RE IN WE'RE IN WE'RE IIINNN!!!

  1. Subdivision 7 is over and it was a biggie with USA, Brazil and Germany all potentially being able to overtake Australia. Luckily only the USA did. After UB Germany was only 0.05 behind Aus but luckily their last event was beam which is their weakest event. Aus finished 0.683 ahead.

Lauren's position in floor finals still hangs in the balance. She's currently 6th. It still looks as though 4 gymnasts could still outscore her (2 Russians, Tweddle and Ferrari). Larrissa is currently in 7th. With Russia, Japan and Great Britain still to come she will most likely miss UB finals though she could still be an alternate.

Aus is still in 4th but with the Russians to come in the next subdivision they'll move into 5th. In the last two subdivisions Japan, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain could still move ahead. Spain and France would have to hit every routine so things are looking good for Australia at the moment.

  2. anonymous... are you taking in the 2 per country rule?

  3. For Lauren yes, I missed that there were 3 Americans ahead of Larrissa so she's in 6th. It will still be difficult for her to make finals with the teams ot come being rather strong on UB.

  4. Id say larrissa and lauren will both be very lucky to make finals... it will be a very close call.

  5. We still have 3 in the AA Lauren is 10th, Emily is 16th and Brown.G is 24th. I think the top 24 competed in this. But I did say I think.

  8. So the Russian's just finished floor. Komova overtakes Mitchell but the rest fail to deliver. Mitchell into 7th with 2 subdivisions to go....

  9. Larissa would be out of bar finals?
Would like to see Lauren get through but it does'nt look good.MAM out of beam fianls.

  10. Larrissa's in 8th but with Japan and Britain to come it doesn't look good.

There's still Tweddle and Ferrari to come on floor. Those two would be the main threats but I think that Britain's Hannah Whelan or Italy's Carlotta Ferlito could also be in the mix if they absolutely nail their routines.

Here's hoping for a bit of luck to fall Lauren's way.

  12. Ferrari just got a 14.466 puts Lauren in 8th!!! :( not looking for for Loz

  13. If Beth does well, she will knock Lauren out. Double :( :(

  14. We need to hold on to getting 8th, as now with probably no Lauren FX,no Larrissa UB and no MAM BB.:(
Not a good comp if we don't Qualify. Fingers crossed!

  15. jeepers, spain are looking good...

  16. we're in guys. Italy have to average 14.6+ in their last rotation, beam, and that's not gonna happen. Since we're in 5th now, the lowest we can finish is 8th, which will happen if GBR, JPN and FRA beat us. Although my tip is 7th.

  17. at least we made it through to Team finals!!! and even beyond that London :) well done girls you have done your job :)

  18. So I guess we can focus our energies on willing Lauren into finals through the power of positive thinking lol.

  19. just read that they only rated the Monckton a D! She might as well go back to doing the straddled shush for G value ! RIP OFF

  22. Has Emily Little qualified for Vault?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don'tshe did two vaults but she should qualify for AA

    ReplyDelete
  24. there is discussion about this on the previous post. Emily doesn't do two vaults so she doesn't bring the team score down.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congratulations Mez Monckton! on the "Monckton"

    ReplyDelete
  26. What's Beth Tweddle capable of scoring on bars? Just looked at her recent youtubes for this year, unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I dont think Emily not doing 2 vaults has much to do with team score, she has never learnt 2 vaults. Its not up to her, but the coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Was "The Monckton" paid in her routine?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hip Hip Hooray! The Aussie girls rock!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Didn't Emily do 2 vaults at Pac Rim where she won bronze? Or were the rules for vault finals different there?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes she did two vaults at PAC Rim she won silver. If someone does two vaults does the average go to the team total or does the first count?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I thought so. I have a vague memory of some kind of handspring vault - not recently though so maybe she isn"t training it anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Only the first vault counts for team and all around qualification. The average is solely used to qualify for event final.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So much for Emily not competing 2 vaults to help the "Team Score" It has nothing to do with it.She hasnt done 2 vaults for ages. It's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  35. my understanding is u must do 2 vaults to qualify for individual vault. Then these 2 vaults are added together and divided by 2 for your score. This brings your average score down. Then that score goes to your team scores. So this does make a differance.

    ReplyDelete
  36. no that's wrong. The score of the first vault goes to team/aa quals. It has nothing to do with averages. It makes absolutely no difference to do 2 vaults compared to 1 in terms of team score.
