  1. These girls must be on the mend:

Please see below six additional Women's Artistic GA-AIS Olympic Squad positions that have been assigned by National Coach Peggy Liddick for the period of June-December 2011.

    Nikola Chung - WAIS
    Georgia Simpson - WAIS
    Georgia Wheeler - VIS/MLC
    Natalia Joura - QAS
    Georgia Bonora - VIS/Waverley
    Angela Donald - VIS/Waverley

Already on the squad are world team + Chloe.

I guess this means Katie Wurth, Tierra and Zoe Lorenzin are out of action for a while.

  2. It's a bit late as that squad finishes in December

    ReplyDelete
  3. The problem this squad changes too much. Why are girls like Katie, Tiera,Zoe not on this squad and younger girls on. Doesn't make sense. Is Georgia B still doing gym?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I guess you have to prove yourself to get onto this squad. Tierra and Zoe have not competed all year. Do we continue to hand spots out to girls who are not out there competing. Reward the girls who are out there.

    ReplyDelete
  5. That's ridiculous most of these girls haven't competed all year either

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think it's time to rethink non 2012 girls on this squad. They can have it when they're seniors

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe if you think about it, it's an insentive for the young girls to strive for. If the senior girls deserve to be there then they will be selected. But how bout you armchair ridiculers cut the juniors some slack, cause a lot of the juniors are actually better than the seniors and only cause of there age are they not able to compete. Basically, the gymnasts around now are all on their way out, so lets support the up n coming!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. You people do not see the gymnasts in training the way Peggy does. You do not see them compete, but Peggy sees them in the gym each day, I am sure she has an idea of what she is doing and who are the hottest players at the moment. The dynamic nature of the squad keeps them all on thier toes and prevents complacency. If you don't get selected one 6 month period, there is always another 6 months to prove yourself. At least Peggy does not write them off totally if they are not ready at the moment, she gives them a second chance.

  9. Actually, Tierra and Zoe have both represented Australia in international meets this year, Tierra at Wild Rose and Zoe at Gymnix/Aus v GBR. So indeed the far likelier explanation is that their injuries are severe rather than this notion that they haven't 'earned' it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Or Peggy doesn't see them as contenders at the moment, compared to the other seniors. Zoe has had a lot of injuries so maybe Peggy sees her as a bit of a liability, What has happened to Sophie Budack?

    ReplyDelete
  11. The program has supported Zoe through her many years of long term injuries even though she hasn't competing much at all. unlike Tierra who has proved herself time and time again with results and has competed at many competitions and then gets striped from the programs priviledges as soon as she injured????????????

  12. I've heard their program is very bias towards certain gymnasts.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Do you think it is fair to exclude juniors from funding to overseas competitions in favour of sub-par seniors who will not represent Australia in the next 6 months anyway? That is bizarre.

People (including myself) always state that the Aussie juniors need to improve yet we don't want to reward the best of them, in favour of girls who aren't even as good as them? Alex Eade and Maddy Leydin may be younger but they have higher difficulty than some seniors. They perform better than some seniors. Why deny them opportunity and funding when come September next year they are our future olympians?!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anon 4;50 You must be a parent of one of these juniors as there are other juniors just as good or better out there. Remember girls develop differently and peak at different times, so don't put down the seniors... that is uncalled for.
Lets wait and see if these juniors are still around in 2016 and at the top of their game, as I bet some of the seniors will still be there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agree, Maddy L is a beautiful gymnasts and will go a long way if nurtured properly and doesn't get injured. Georgia Goodwin is also a junior to look out for.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Georgia-Rose and Mary-Anne are off to Tokyo Cupp!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah what has happened to Sophie Buddack? Such a good vaulter and good at everything else as well. Or is it typical of QAS, probably gets ignored, seems to happen there a lot I heard.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes I agree ! It seems a shame that all reports about QAS is they have developed the culture of ignoring certain gymnasts in favor of others creating a quite negative environment...

    ReplyDelete
  19. It seems all institutes are the same it happens at WAIS and I have heard it is a big problem in Victoria too but not sure where. It is a shame as all girls deserve the same treatment. Some of their best talent may not be developed just because they are ignored. We need vaulters and Sophie was good so why isn't she being nurtured like the others at QAS?

    ReplyDelete
  20. TO 10:46- Are you in the QAS gym daily in order to comment like that? What an ignorant statement to make, that is an insult to Vladimir & Irina Joura, both of whom are trying to rebuild the QAS program. it is not easy and they need some time and support, there are so many talented queensland gymnasts that they can help. if a gymnast can't cope with the fig code of points, it is not the coach's fault, it is survival of the fittest, simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Vaults are a problem in Australia, maybe Peggy needs to find some girls that have good vaulting potential and work on them to become specialists. Australia needs some specialist coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't think it all about being ignored, I think we don't have enough coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought I heard that MBC elite girls moved to the QAS and so beleive that would mean they would have two more coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What is the point of announcing additional squad
members now with only a few weeks to go.
Will the new additions receive the same personal
funding that the others received? It looks like the only
winners here are the programs. They wont have to fund
them for camp. It has been spread across the programs
so that they all have received extra squad members for camp. QAS 1, Waverley 2, VWHPC 1 and WAIS 2.
I don't think it has anything to do with where the girls are at, just funding for the programs.

    ReplyDelete
  25. How wrong you are, it has everything to do with where the gymnasts have demonstrated steps towards an international program. Peggy would not invite them to a training camp to watch them sit on their butts, obviously she sees something that they could contribute to the national team, she is not runninig a resort in Canberra.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The only people who are sitting on their butts are the parents that bag the gymnast. You tell me which gymnasts in training would be allowed to sit on their butts, these girls work damn hard. The girls that were chosen may currently be a little further ahead, that dosnt mean that the other girls are lazy and would treat the camp like a holiday.

  27. I was anon at 4.50 and I'm not a parent of any gymnast, not even from Victoria, not a coach or gymnast, just an observer going on facts. Those two girls (Eade and Leydin) do have higher DVs than some seniors and I've seen them in the gym and they look great, they look better than some of the seniors.

Lauren looks better than Emily, Larissa and the Georgias at this stage... is that 'putting down' the seniors? No, its a comparison of gymnasts. Just like a competition that ranks them 1,2,3 shows some gymnasts are better than others. When I'm saying that some of the juniors are better than some seniors is that a put down? No, it's simply describing an observation. In the USA Katelyn Ohashi is better than Ali Raisman? Does that mean Raisman is terrible? Does it mean she doesn't work hard? Obviously not... I seriously get sick of people on this blog taking things so seriously and personally.

My comment stands that the funding should go to the most eligible, competition ready kids so that they can gain experience overseas... whether they are training for London or Rio or any of the worlds in between. Otherwise we get to 2013 and people wonder why we have noone coming up ready to compete at worlds and all the whinging about development starts all over again.

  28. Strategically, in the past, Peggy has not chosen girls with a single apparatus specialty. It's a big gamble to take someone away who does not excel in more than one apparatus. If an all rounder becomes injured, she needs to be replaced by someone who can offer more than just vault(for example).
I think it must be a nightmare doing the maths to pick a team.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Some of these girls that are continually injured year after year need to have a good hard look at themselves and their futures, their parents need to step up and pull them from the program.
I'm not going to name names as you know who you are, surely it's time to rest your bodies and go get an education!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon 9:26 Erm... didn't Olivia Vivian make the 2006 Worlds and 2008 Olympic teams by virtue of a sole apparatus specialty?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mary Anne Monkton was one of those injured girls and look at her now!,,,

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes I agree, they shouldn't quit unless their body is making them.
Exactly, Mary-Anne was injured, Lauren was out for a while, Georgia Bonora just came back. Not to mention people like Zoe, Britt, Emily, Amelia, who have done well in cometitions when they have the chance.
Injury is a huge part of gymnastics, I wasn't even in the IDP program and still exerienced stacks of injury
So the idea of them giving up is wrong
As for the squad, it's a good achievment for the juniors, it will be interesting to see who is in it come 2012

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why should they quit if they are still loving it? Even if they are not ready for the Olympics there us still worlds and commonwealth games. If you knew any of these gymnasts you would know that most if them are doing quite well at school.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mary Ann, Georgia and Lauren were always star gymnasts and could afford to take some... injury time off, the rest have only really been given oportunities on teams because we don't have the depth of other countries. Is it really worth while making all the sacrifices to come 40th in the world. These girls are not yet really adults and do they have the ability to make decisions about staying in the sport. It is really not a good enough reason to say I love gym! That is why we have other gymnastics levels.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon 1:19pm

Just heard news that Tierra Exum has quit from gymnastics. I hope this isnt true such great talent, what a loss.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anon 1:15. Who are you... And who do you think you are...
All the Elite girls have talent if nurtured properly.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anon @ 1.15 I don't think you truly know what you are talking about or else you are a parent of a junior gymnast looking for more funding. There were many gymnasts who have had injuries for many years only to go on and have great success such as Ashleigh Brennan.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Children and mothers...don't you have work to do!

    ReplyDelete
  39. So why are you on this site, do get paid to sit and read our comments.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Obviously you are a coach if your not a child or a mother and if you are why aren't you working on our gymnasts and planning their future.

    ReplyDelete
  41. When did Tierra quit it seems sudden?

    ReplyDelete
  42. No, not a coach either. Sometimes come on here for a giggle at the bizarre goings on. Makes my day!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well I'm glad it makes someone's day because it certainly doesn't make mine when in-fighting is stirred up.

Also, I don't get what people don't understand about "please don't post things you have 'heard'." I can't say it enough times.

    ReplyDelete
  44. yes Mez Olivia did compete only bars at the 08 Olympics, I think she may have competed other apparatus' in quals at the 2006 worlds.
however the 08 Olympics does demonstrate anon 9:26 point about someone getting injured and an apparatus specialist not be able to compete on other apparatus'. When Dasha got injured prior to Beijing she still had to compete all apparatus' in quals because Olivia could only compete bars.
