That's A Bit Cool!

Look who popped by the Victorian HPC!

You can see Hamish in action at the gym here. Hope he didn't get chalk in his eye!

Speaking of the gang in Prahran, is award-winner Ash Brennan already a lock for PacRim 2012...?

  1. Pac Rim 2012 should categorically NOT be for experienced girls. It is the perfect meet for those less experienced by offering an international team comp short of a worlds or olympic experience. This could be important in the lead up to London. Very disappointed.

  2. Gah, why are these girls not staying home and upgrading? We should be seeing some of those who were injured in 2010 like Simpson/Lorenzin/Wheeler/Donald/Chung being sent to this meet, not Larrissa/Lauren/Ashleigh/Emily again. It is so boring seeing the same girls at every meet, with the same old routines.

  3. Didn't Ashleigh and Dasha go to 2008 PacRim? When they were experienced right before the Olympics too? Maybe it's good to have a big comp in the same year as Olympics, as it means the judges who could potentially be judging them at the Olympics can see them in this comp...

  4. I think Ashleigh, Lauren and Dasha went to PAC rim in 2008. Australia generally sends their best available team to PAC rim.

  5. Remember PacRim is a a competition for a team of 3 seniors and 3 juniors.

It is a tough competition with some of the best nations and gymnasts in the world taking part. We need to look good especially in an Olympic year. Where possible it is not a competition for the inexperienced.

  6. I was only guessing. The journalist might have interpreted an "I'm aiming to make the team for 2012 pacific rim" as "I'M GOING TO 2012 pacific rim".

  7. Honestly, that's been happening a bit lately...like that brittish newspaper that said Jenni Pinches was a lock for the olympic team. I'm sure it gave Ashleigh a laugh.

Normally Australia does send the experienced girls to pac rims, thats true, but with the new age rules I think GA will mix it up a little. I have a feeling they'll send 2 first year seniors and one veteran as a team captain of sorts, in which case Brennan would be a good candidate.

  8. Pacific Rim is ranked just behind worlds in importance. Australia will be sending the best team possible. It will not be about just trying to give girls who haven't competed the experience.
I would imagine Lauren will be a lock and I think Ash will stand a good chance.
I am not sure about the juniors. I would imagine Georgia, Alex and not sure.

  9. The seniors that are not in Olympic contention need to been given opportunities to travel and represent Australia. The juniors get plenty of opportunity and the top seniors are getting looked after but what about all the other seniors.. are they just left in limbo, these seniors are just as much 2016 if not more that the up and coming juniors. With the top seniors travelling everywhere they are not getting the time or opportunities to up their start values and consolidate their skills, and as previously mentioned the girls do so well when at camp with Peggy... maybe these girls need more camp time as they have proven they can compete internationally.

  10. I think you missed the point. This is a junior/senior combined competition. Juniors have to go. It is not about giving seniors experience. If they are fit and able and are in the top three they will go. It is as simple as that.

  11. Anon 11:30. I am talking in general not Pacific-rim

  12. It must be hard for the Seniors who are working hard to get back into the spotlight after injury to read articles like this that state that girls have already been selected for comps in 2012. They might as well stop now if it is the same ones all the time.Must be hard to stay motivated.Would like to see Brennan update her skills as not much has cahanged in her program fo a long time.

  13. Yes totally agree, it must be easy to do a reasonable routine when you have been doing the same routines since 2008.Brennans routines look stale and boring. At least Lauren updates and has a new floor. Why has Ash never tried to improve her bars? Other gymnasts at least are trying to work towards being AA which we desperately need.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can understand treating Ash's bars as a lost cause, but her floor and beam could and need to be upgraded. She cannot be a specialist if her sets are at the same level of an AAer. Same skills, same old stuff, still only average.

  15. meanwhile, when is ulln sternberg gonna get a guernsey on the national team? Her bars alone warrants it...

  16. I didn't think Ulin was an austrian citizen. She can go on national squad but can't represent Australia for a few years yet and all I can go by are her D scores and they are nothing to get excited about. At Vic's last year I thought she was average!

  17. She's improved alot since then though

  18. Hi Mez - did you catch this report from 'Coaching Gymnastics' website?
    http://gymnasticscoaching.com/new/2011/12/gymnastics-documentary-poetry-in-motion/

Will be very interesting to see a comparison of Australian gymnastics then vs now!

  20. Does anyone know the names of the gymnasts in the Poetry in Motion doco?

  21. As a parent of an elite gymnast I am glad we don't have the centralised program any more. I really don't know whether I could have sent my daughter to the AIS. Also, I don't know if she would have been accepted considering the body types they were looking for. It is a relive that they average body type is now more realistic.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So what is the average body type?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Back then is says the average was tiny - 38k and 144cm. Now the average from worlds last year was 156cm. This is put down to the girls being older.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Did anyone get to see the level 10 girls competiton at National Clubs?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Say at the time this doco was made how many girls were dormed at the AIS?

  31. I saw the level 10 comp there was a little girl looked about 12 from Delta who had a pretty beam routine very solid mount press handstand planche like Amelia McGrath?? I think. Alicia Brown from MLC looked good reminds me of GRB in her looks. Heaps of skills.

And Tierra, svetlana and Laura? Someone have an insight? Is it just long term injury?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Where do you find the list? Who else are going to camp?

    ReplyDelete
  35. VWHPC posted it. I am most interested in knowing if Katie, Natalia, Angela, Georgia S will go.
