Best wishes to Ash Brennan, Georgia Rose Brown and Maryanne Monckton competing at the Doha World Cup this week.
The official site is here.
I'd also like to wish early good vibes to Larrissa Miller and Lauren Mitchell, bound for the apparatus-only Zibo World Cup in China the following week. International Gymnast lists the rosters here.
There is a podium training video circulating. It's a little chaotic but you see Ash warm up a double tuck on floor at 05:53 and Georgia Rose training her routine just after that.
Qualification Update:
Maryanne Monckton qualified 2nd(!) through to the beam final (5.9/14.350) behind celebrated Olympic medallist Catalina Ponor(!!), while Ash is first reserve (6.0/13.400).
Mez is first reserve for uneven bars final (5.7/13.350) while Georgia finished 12th (5.6/12.950)
Some videos from the qualification session are going up here.
Ash qualified 7th through to the floor final (5.5/13.050) while Georgia again finished 12th (5.3/12.400)
Finals:
Just before I was headed to bed at 12:25am, I got a link to a live feed. I missed Ash's routine but caught Maryanne's. She was in the black leo with pink and purple swipe. She looked simply stunning up there but unfortunately came off on her first acro series and had a form break later on. She took one step back on a double pike dismount for 5.8/13.200
... but in a stunning turn of events, Ash also went into the final for an injured gymnast, and ended up second behind Ponor (with 6.1/8.225)!
Check her out on the medal podium below.
Ash finished just outside the medals in the floor final, finishing in 4th place with 5.4/13.900
Wow those are some good line ups! Good luck to all the girls I'm sure they'll do AUS proud.
ReplyDeleteSo good to see that the girls are getting heaps of international competition experience leading up the Olys.
ReplyDeleteGood luck girls!
Well done Mez for beam quals. Go get em in the finals!
ReplyDeleteNice work Mary anne!
ReplyDeleteNice work Mez!
ReplyDeleteWell done to Mez and Ash.
ReplyDeleteTotally unrelated, but since yesterday's reveal of the uniforms the aussies will be wearing to the olympics, I've been wondering what the girls' leos will be like. Hmmmmm...
Would be nice to incorporate the southern cross
ReplyDeleteAgreed it would be nice to incorporate the southern cross. I also loved how for CWG their leos had the Australian coat of arms on it. That was nice. I am sure either way they'll get a whole bundle of new ones to choose from for this Olympics like the Beijing girls did! Cannot wait to see them!
ReplyDeleteDo the girls get to choose them?
ReplyDeleteThe girls get no say
ReplyDeleteLauren didn't even get to choose her music
I hope they have all totally new designs and not an ugly all around Leo like Beijing!
I distinctly remember a photo of a huge bunch of leos in plastic that the girls got to choose from for Beijing. Some of the ones they left behind were bloody hideous - thank god they chose what they did.
ReplyDeleteOther people know the photo I'm talking about right? There was even a sleeveless leo in the collection that was fluro green, white and black and had a Opera House type shape on its front. It was disgusting.
Clearly they didn't get to choose the Tokyo leos, cos no one in their right mind would've picked that pink and orange monstrosity, but I think they do get the priviledge come the Olympic Games.
Oh well i was still training during Beijing and wasn't on forums or blogs or anything
ReplyDeleteYes, Olivia Vivian did show us the selection the Beijing team had available to them.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I understand, the final choices were up to the girls.
I don't know what the system is with non-Olympic teams.
BS!
ReplyDeleteWill be interesting to see how the beam final plays out.Whelan made unusual mistakes and Larisa had unusual falls. Both should do better in the final. Will be interesting to see if MAM can hold that position.
ReplyDeleteJust heard that Dasha will be attending camp. Interesting....
ReplyDeleteWhere did you hear that? More info??
DeleteAs If!!!
ReplyDeleteGo Mez , you can do it :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out the All-Pac12 Awards announced last weekend... in amongst all the Americans and a few Canadians there's 3 young Australian ladies who have obviously been quietly impressing over in NCAA. Good job girls!!
ReplyDeleteI told everyone months ago that Dasha was making a comeback. She is looking awesome. All of those non believers will soon be proven wrong. Anyway it is great that Peggy will have more gymnasts to choose from.
ReplyDeleteWow Ash got second! Someone must've pulled out so she was no longer reserve and then she gets second! What a champ!
ReplyDeleteWell done Ash and Mez!
Dasha is attending camp to help with preparations. She is not making a comeback and hopes to keep her fitness in shape. She has mentioned she would enjoy maybe competing a la chloe and doing a levels competition.
ReplyDeleteanyone know who's competing at the QLD elite trial today?
ReplyDeleteThe leo Ash wore in the beam and floor finals is gorgeous and one I recognise as part of that whole bundle the girls got to choose from for Beijing. Yes it turned out to only be worn for training (and it does very much look like a training leo) but it is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI agree, if is lovely, in blue as well
ReplyDeleteAnother Country uses the same design, can't remember which one though
Well done ash!
re Dasha, whether she competes level 10 or higher, it is still a comeback. Just the fact that she is training and doing routines is a comeback.
ReplyDeleteYes, well done Ash.
ReplyDeletei think germany uses the same design - in red? i love when ex olympians/cwg medalists compete against level 10 girls. take from that what you will. not a troll just stating my opinion
ReplyDeleteI don't feel we were that impressive at Doha, yes Ash did well, in the end, but still was not a flawless routine. Some major wobbles and balance check. Shame MM couldn't live up to her 1 st effort and if GRB is going for a Bar position on the team, then 12 th isn't that great. Think we still have a long way to go to better our consistency out there. Only hope that the girls can cope with rigorous training in the lead up to trials. Watching Larissa and her new foor, hope she can be a lot more consistent in her landings, they look very short , if she had plenty of time to perfect it ,then great, but I would hate her coaches pushing things that are not ready, thats just dangerous.
ReplyDeleteWow, pretty harsh, those feet were never going to miss the beam, really trying to get her connections and that dismount is awesome. Still 7 weeks till trials - Looking Good Ash!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! A massive well done Ash! You're a champ!
ReplyDeleteTEAM BRENNAN 2012
Agreed! ^^^ Great job Ash and I'm definitely on the TEAM BRENNAN 2012 Bandwagon!! GO ASH!
ReplyDeleteYeehah TEAM BRENNAN!
