Olympics: Men's Preliminaries

Very best wishes to Australia's sole representative in men's artistic gymnastics, Josh Jefferis. We hope Josh can keep the good vibes going from podium training as he flies our flag in session 2, starting on floor.

The start list is here.

Foxtel will be showing the men's preliminary rounds from 7:55pm AEST this evening on London3. Josh's session kicks off at approximately 12:25am.

The men's all-around final will be shown from 1:25am on August 2, live on London3.

Gymnastics Australia will be providing quick hits at Facebook. The Gymnastics Examiner is on the scene, check out Blythe's quick hits as they go up here. If I get word on a working feed, I will let you know. Otherwise, make the most of Foxtel if you have it.

  4. Well done Josh. Although it was a pity that we only got to see 1 routine, and pity about the commentary. They really need to find someone who knows what they are talking about. Liz was struggling to identify some skills and was completely confused by some routines.

  5. They showed all of Josh's routines on delayed coverage on Channel 9, plus a fluff piece and an interview after the comp.

I disagree re Liz's commentary. I think she is the best!

  6. Good on channel 9 for showing all of joshs routines looking forward to some good coverage off the garils tonight as I don't have pay tv

  9. Yea, the commentary was horrible. I can't believe that she didn't even know what an airflare is. And she kept getting the number of twists wrong. It sounded like she hardly had any idea what was going on.

  10. can anyone remind me what Lauren's maximum d-scores are on beam and floor? thanks

  11. is there anywhere on the channel nine website where you can watch Josh's routines?

  12. any idea what time/when the girls will be on tonight?

  13. I can't find anything on the website. So far this coverage is looking even worse than the disgraceful coverage from 2008.

  14. I think (but not certain) that the girls are in the session at 8:15pm (our time) tonight. But who knows when we'll get to see them. Maybe 3am.

  15. Yes, the girls are in subdivision 2, which is 11:15am in London and 8:15pm here. I am so glad I have foxtel. Channel 9 coverage is looking woeful so far. You will see swimming warm up, swimming, swimming interviews and swimming analysis before you get to see anything else.

  16. Well it's not an air flare in the Code of points. ANd when did she get the number of twists wrong? If you are referring to Kasamatsu double, that is basically a Tsuk triple.

  17. Liz's commentary was disgraceful. She repeatedly said a 1/2 twist was 1 1/2, and mixed up full and double twist. She has absolutely no idea!

  18. It wasn't vault that she got the twists wrong, it was mainly floor, but also some dismounts on other apparatus.

  19. I've given up hoping for a new commentator. We've known for years that she has absolutely no idea, but they keep getting her back.

  20. The funniest one was one of the Koreans on floor. He missed his take-off and pulled out of the skill. All Liz could say was that it had low difficulty and 'I have no idea what happened there' when even blind Freddy could have told you what happened.

  21. Wouldn't you take that to mean that she doesn't know whether he just mentally baulked or felt a strain and pulled out? That's how I would take it. Fair enough you can dislike her as a commentator, but I think that sort of comment is overly critical.

  22. How about Liz's comments about Lauren in the Herald!
Liz has not been at WAIS for about 18 months on a full time basis. She worked else where for 2011 and retired after a month or so on her return this year. How is it that she gets to have her say on Lauren's chances. I don't think her comments were timed very well. How about trying to give the girls as much positive press as possible or none at all until they have competed. Can't believe she said what she did.

  23. Yes indeed! " Former Mentor writes off Lauren Mitchell's chance for Olympic Medal on Floor" Wow, could not believe that headline! Why is she even talking to the Media? Why would GA approve that sort of comment when they have worked hard to build Lauren's reputation up to an International standard. That sort of comment can do a lot if harm to Lauren. I know she personally won't be reading it but it creates an uneasy vibe for all involved.

  24. if you dont like lizs commentary, contact channel 9 and let them know

  25. I agree with Liz. Lauren's floor has terrible choreography, no musicality and only one decent tumbling run. I don't want it to win.
