ETA 01/11: Below is an event report, courtesy of by Gymnastics WA
On the 26th of October WA’s top gymnastic athletes competed at Challenge Stadium in a competition never seen before, the inaugural Chetkovich Cup. The Chetkovich Cup pinned athlete against athlete in a mixed discipline team competition format, a new concept for a gymnastics competition in WA. Gymnastics WA together with e- Event Promotions constructed a perfect competition to display all disciplines of gymnastics to the general public.
With a crowd of 1600 strong, one by one the athletes came out and wowed the audience with their fantastic skill and co-ordination, all competing for the Chetkovich Cup. Teams were selected prior to the competition by the event sponsors, creating 6 very competitive teams. The teams all competed very strongly, with only 2.8 points separating 1st- 6th place. The winner of the inaugural Chetkovich Cup was the Proseal Panthers who were led by the 2012 Olympian for Rhythmic Gymnastics, Janine Murray. Team members who contributed to winning this prestigious cup were Zoe Tisdale (AER), Amy Quinn (RG), Stefanie Bruder, Lia McEwan and Ava Delahunty (ACRO trio), Eloise Valli (WG) and Joshua DiNucci (MG).
Team results:
Proseal Panthers 144.441
Prime Trophy Patriots 144.333
Northern District Knights 143.899
e- Fire Flames142.625
e- Event Eagles141.983
Northern District Cougars 141.633
Athletes were also competing for the Allana Slater Medal, awarded to the most entertaining routine of the night. This award was judged by 5 Olympians with no background knowledge of Gymnastics. The winner of the Allana Slater Medal was Olivia Vivian (Women’s Gymnastics) with a really entertaining and crowd pleasing routine. The event could not have been possible without the fantastic assistance from event sponsors, volunteers, judges, athletes, coaches and event staff. Our sincere thanks goes to the event sponsors Proseal Constructions, Prime Trophies, e- Event Promotions, Northern Districts Gymnastics Club and e- Fire & Safety. We would also like to acknowledge the judges for giving up their valuable time. To the coaches and athletes, for your time and effort in supporting this inaugural event and the event staff & volunteers who worked tirelessly to deliver this amazing new concept to gymnastics.
Gymnastics WA would like to personally thank Rick Elkington, Director of e- Event Promotions and GWA Board Vice President. The event concept is the brainwave of Rick Elkington and his time, effort and energy he has put into the development of the event is much appreciated.
All in all, the event was an amazing way to promote gymnastics to the wider community and to showcase the talented gymnasts Western Australia has to offer. Gymnastics WA hopes you enjoyed your night and look forward to seeing you at the next Chetkovich Cup!

the final workplans for national clubs are up. Absolutely crazy that not a single athlete from VWHPC is competing. A real shame they don't support it the one time it's in Victoria. Also no QAS athletes above around IDP6 from memory.
That's very disappointing. Shouldn't they be getting all the competition practice they can??
Who from the HPC would you like to see compete? Maryanne, Zoe and Georgia Wheeler are all coming back from injuries. Ashleigh has retired and the juniors that are moving into senior are more than likely working on their senior routines. At the end of an Olympic cycle some competitions are not always convenient. Hence why there are very few seniors and juniors this year.
are there only 3 seniors at VWHPC these days?
Perhaps if there was prize money there would be more juniors and seniors competing. Other than that there really is no point in competing. No enthusiasm at all from GA.
It's not even the seniors, but to have not a single gymnast from IDP5-Junior as well? They have 5 juniors, Eade, Leydin, Warnock, Flood and Munteanu. Only Munteanu, Leydin and Flood are becoming seniors, seems like a poor excuse.
They seem to have been struggling this year , they don't have many girls coming through in IDP and those that are are right at the bottom of the pack.
surely they could have mustered up some IDP5s, at least! WAIS is sending their whole squad basically!
Actually the lower level IDP girls at HPC are looking amazing - there seems to be a gap though in the IDP5-8 levels so I think that is where the issues are. I read their newsletter and a lot of juniors seems to be working on new skills so that is probably why they are not going to clubs
When does the actual list of competitors get put up?
In previous years there has been no published list until the first lot of results. Same as nationals - just numbers from each gym and everyone on here tried to guess who might be going based on the numbers!
Everyone wonders why our seniors aren't consistent, but the answer's right here. There is no a culture of wanting to compete.
Honestly they really should only allow girls who attend national clubs to attend the IDP clinics. That would encourage greater commitment. There are two major events for IDP athletes in a year, attending them if healthy and able is not too much to ask.
I would have thought this would have been a good meet for AYOF contenders to asses their progress before trials for that as well.
totally agree, anon 1:41.
It was interesting to see in the International National Clubs Work Plan the usual terrific representation of the WAIS program in every level. As the model IDP program in Victoria, what is going on, that it is not similarly represented? Waverely Gymnastics seems to have taken on that role.
Yes, Waverley are really delivering the kids at the moment. None of VWHPC's 6s and 8s even qualified for nationals right?
VWHPC had a ton of really talented IDP5s 2009, then there seems to have been a mass exodus with very few of the kids even continuing on in gymnastics.
It's a sport that demands such long hours of young kids that talent isn't enough. If the passion isn't there it's just too hard. You can't MAKE the girls stay.
I loved the time my daughter was there and wished she had stayed. I have nothing but praise for the program, unfortunately most of the kids who are left in that group are not necessarily the ones with the most talent... THEY ARE HOWEVER, THE ONES WHO LOVE IT THE MOST - so I have no doubts they will get there in the end.
Jo and Peggy don't do enough to keep our young gymnasts. There's just no inspiration. NSW have so many IDP 8 and 10 girls this year.
about time nsw has some girls. who else from NSW has made past jnr int it over the last 2 quads besides mary anne?
Wasn't Emma Nedov awarded 2011 junior international gymnast of the year? I believe she's back from injury and is now competing senior. Didn't she win gold at youth commonwealth games?
