The Road to Nationals: New South Wales/Victoria Day 1

Thanks to ChaChaKid for some footage of the NSW State Champs. Errors aside, Mary Anne Monckton rocks some pretty ace bars skills - that fancypants new piked shush and a double layout to boot! Don't sweat the small stuff, Mez, you put in a good effort.

And a brief junior/senior Vics report from Nade:

Georgia B looks the fittest of the 'veterans' by far. Easy double backs on floor, easy FTY, nice beam. Emma D has a new floor which is quite interesting!

Ashleigh B must have a beam DV around 6 looking at her skills today. They are all back. She was going well until she straddled the beam on something and lost concentration. Still, I think if she can get the routine consistent by worlds selection it's going to be hard to say no. Opened on floor with a full-in.

Georgia Rose did well except on bars where she had a fall on her toe full IIRC. Still, she seemed very happy with her performances. She now tumbles double pike, 1.5+punch layout, front double twist+stag, double tuck to finish. Amelia was solid on her best events, but scored under 10 on bars.

Georgia W was ok. Some hesitations on floor, she didn't do her double front.

Rachel Collister opened floor with a high full in [but] scored under 10.00 on beam.

VWHPC have a gorgeous new leo!

Nade has started putting videos up here. And the ever-vigilant MistySakura is also in the process of uploading videos. You guys rock!

Update - if you're a Facebooker, you can become a fan of/"like" Gymnastics Victoria and access some ace photos from the championships!

  1. Videos of Vics slowly going up on my channel http://www.youtube.com/mistysakura
Very, very slowly. I'll have a much faster internet connection on Tuesday. But Angela Donald's BB routine was smashing, and Ashleigh is well on her way to a comeback.

  2. I thought Ashleigh looked great tonight. She has the highest difficult on 3 of the apparatus - Vault, beam, Floor. She looked so relaxed and confident. She made a few errors, but someone coming back from having time off, well done Ashleigh, keep it up!

  3. I love the new VWHPC leotard, looked so nice out on the floor and really suited all the girls, well done VWHPC! Good choice

So far I only have GRB's floor up, but I'll queue them overnight. Unfortunately the files are over 100mb each so take more than an hour to upload.

It was so nice to see the 3 Waverley girls and Ashleigh back doing AA tonight! Their beam talents are really essential for the team.

For me Georgia B looked really at ease and clean in everything. If she can get a bit more difficulty back on floor and vault she will be on the team I think.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Georgia B looked good and I think she probably performed her maximum at the moment. Ashleigh can improve on beam, fixing her fall, and both of them should have a good chance at making the team

    ReplyDelete
  6. What is wrong with Emma Collister, she looked to be limping around the floor, is she injured?

    ReplyDelete
  7. mmm very nice routine Angela.
I heart me some tidy beam routines (even though there were a few wobbles)

    ReplyDelete
  8. i think emma collister hurt her ankle in warm up maybe on floor. She competed all apparatus except floor

    ReplyDelete
  9. Gymnastics victoria have quite a few photos on their Facebook page, there are some very cute photos up

  10. I have some videos from NSW states uploading, and when they're done I'll give you a link and a brief report :)

  11. Can anyone tell me if Monica made nationals? I saw her beam on Chachakid's channel and thought she did a lovely job.

    ReplyDelete
  12. emma collister didn't compete at trial 2 because she hurt her toe i think. maybe its still giving her problems.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Alexandra Eade looks so much like a baby Lisa Skinner -- even some of her choreography on beam is the same!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Alex Eade seems like more of a Trudy to me. Svetlana reminds me of Lisa though.

By the way, does anyone have any updates on Brit? Will she be competing at nationals? I miss her presence.

  17. I really loved VICS last night, the seniors all looked great, the juniors looked fantastic a very exciting group of girls, and the girls did a great job in IDP10 well done to all girls, we had a very good night.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Who has qualified?

    ReplyDelete
  19. What is really impressing me about some of the juniors is their consistency. Amelia has been a rock on BB/FX all through Pac, POYC and now Vics. Angela has been without falls as well. Georgia Rose also has improved a ton- when you look at her bars from AYOF

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anqE-vhXFNw&feature=related

She has just come such a long way! And she has been hitting beam and floor a lot lately.

    ReplyDelete
  20. britt didn't compete on sat night not sure if she will on monday think her back is still giving her a bit of trouble but she has qualified so hopefully see her at nats

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh please point your toes MaryAnne!

Anyone have any videos of Ashleigh?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have Ashleigh BB in the upload queue, should be up by tomorrow...

I am a little sad Mary-Anne took out those little touches that made her BB so unique, like the bit at the beginning of her old routine. I am also surprised she doesn't do a sheep jump anymore, I thought it would be a relatively easy D dance skill for her. Will be interesting to see how she goes at nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I worry whether MaryAnne will ever make it. Even though it sounds good how she went, she's still hurting big time and never seems to be fully recovered, or recovered enough, to be at her peak for a competition. It seems like a never ending battle. I feel for her.

Where can we see the new VWHPC leos? I can't find them on their website?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mez did make nationals (senior), as did Emma Jane Nedov (junior). Monica did not - not sure how that came about.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I just watched Emma Dennis's new floor routine, not sure what people at the competition thought? She looked like she really struggled through the routine, with one floor and a low landing on the last tumble, she looks to be not that fit

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don’t think the NSW website showing only Emma going to Nationals is all to go on about that list was made up a while ago and State is a QF event in the National eyes. So Monica has had 2 chances to get her CR’s up. NSW have been very inconsistent with judging and results.

Ashleigh Kittl did the same vault in the 1st and 2nd trial and gets a different D score for them. Has a high bars start in 2nd trial which by rights should give her the CR’s for Nationals.

I guess we will have to wait for GA to post the entrants for National’s to confirm who is a starter and who is not.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Emma Denis looked much fitter than trial 2. All the Olympians looked fitter than trial 2 so can't wait to see them again soon!

    ReplyDelete
  28. She still doesn't have a D dismount on floor, beam or bars, how can she qualify with this?

    ReplyDelete
  29. does anyone know why the aussie girls move so slowly on floor and beam, and to an extent bars as well. Their giants on bars seem slower somehow, and movements on beam and dance on floor almost in slow motion even with fast pace music. Is it just a difference in technique, or because they are learning new skills or something

    Jayla

    ReplyDelete
  30. to be honest I'd say it's more that a lot of the videos show girls coming back from injuries and extended breaks so they are not at peak physical fitness yet, which reduces their speed and amplitude.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Svetlana and Tierra aren't in the new leo - vis scholarships i assume?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Does anyone know what Maryanne competed on floor and vault?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think this is the VIS leotard. It is Tierra Exum and Svetlana Sanders from the VHPC.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw that Mary-anne girl she was quite good. unlucky for the fall on vault. I heard her ankles are pretty sore thats why her floor was watered down, not to mention the amount of strapping tape she was using! But for nationals she should be great. Plenty more to come from this girl. Good luck to her :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who picks out the leos for VWHPC? Tracy? Whoever it is, they have good taste.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Does anyone have any videos, or pics, or info about NSW States?

    ReplyDelete
  40. That was the first time Emma D showed that floor routine in a comp. It's brand new and really different. Not all skills are yet included so I guess we will have to wait and see how she improves as she get's the feel of it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. NSW States:

Maryanne seemed to have a much better night than what was reported on day 1. She had a good bars set with a stuck double lay dismount...beam was heaps better too, she stayed on her barani/layout step-out but took out her double pike dismount..she did an awesome one in warm-up (with lots of encouragement from Hollie) but she played it safe in comp and opted for a layout. She had an awkward landing on vault which looked like it hurt her, so perhaps that is why. If she can stay healthy and clean up a bit on some of her skills, she will be a real asset to the AUS team.

Epping girls were a standout in IDP 8. They have very strong beam and just have an all-round class, technically speaking. Some lovely flip-layouts and aerials on beam from them.

Jazmine Casis (AIS) was also one to watch for in IDP 8. Very strong AA and fabulous power and flexibility...she looks to have a bright future. Her IDP 8 teammate Tiahn Pesterey also looks promising...she is very strong and powerful and has awesome potential on floor and beam particularly. She finished with a double pike on floor.

All in all, it was a pretty good competition. It seemed a bit more low-key than previous years, with less gymnasts...maybe it has something to do with the qualification process for nationals, which has made state less relevant. But always great seeing the elites on show. There are some real stars amoung them that's for sure! Hope you enjoy that mini report :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. !?!?!?!? Did anyone film Day 2 today? Just got word down the grapevine that Little Mez hit bars amazingly! Would love to see evidence!

    ReplyDelete
  43. black vwhpc leos look so much better than the white one. if it was tracey good pick

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mez vaulted a Y Full, and on floor showed a double twist, a LO, and a double pike. I didn't film her bars tonight (others may have), but she did indeed hit a nice set - nice height on the Tkatchev, and the only minor mistake was on the 1/2 turn after the pak salto.

To whoever questioned Monica's state team selection: squads for Perth were announced tonight, so unless she is added later (or along those lines), she's currently not going.

Any Epping insiders - noticed Hiba Balout wasn't there. Reasons?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Can't get that leo link up. The HPC IDP 5-8s were still wearing the white leo.

    ReplyDelete
  46. HPC new leotard I think is for IDP10 and up as all the lower level are still in the silver one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Re. Anna.

    Hiba Balout has quit.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok, thank you, I did not know that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Re. Anna: Do you have any videos of Maryanne on floor?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I also really enjoyed the competition this weekend. The girls seemed relaxed and happy which was good to see.

I was impressed with Georgia Rose Brown. Of course, she has lovely gymnastics, but she also seemed to have an excellent positive attitude and a sunny disposition. She seemed very happy just to be there.

The HPC coaches also struck me as being very kind and caring towards their girls, which was good to see given the negative stories and stereotypes you hear about elite gymnastics. The MLC female coach seemed a little more steely.

The only downer was the number of falls (some skills looked nowhere near ready I thought) but overall they are a nice bunch of gymnasts.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon 8:55 you have it in a nutshell.

The girls in all the elite sessions seemed very relaxed and happy.
Many had a little fun with us when they arrived at apparatus which was nice to see rather than being so focussed they forget to have fun.

This however, may have been the reason for all the falls.

Perhaps we could see a happy medium by Nationals?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Looking at the senior girls from Day 2 Vics, they are all doing well but just don't look at an international standard at the moment. It looked like Georgia B and Shona were holding back on difficulty a bit. Emma looked pretty good but as commented previously I suspect her D sores were down a bit. Definitely only has a C dismount on floor (double twist). Georgia W did a great bars other than her dismount (which looked new but was kind of hard to pick from the other side of the arena) but her tchakev is so high compared to all the others. Ashleigh looked pretty good but had a few issues today but did some nice things on floor (didn't see all her apparatus).

But all in all, hopefully a few will have a bit more difficulty come Comm Games/Worlds time. Look forward to see what is put on the floor at Nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  53. When you look at Shona/Georgia last year at Vics compared to worlds, they made huge strides. Shona did a FTY at Vics last year and by worlds was doing a layout pod and DTY. I'm sure they do not plan on making the worlds/CWG team by doing layout yurchenkos or opening with a double tuck/ending with a double twist.

The thing that irks me so much though is Georgia's reverse giant on bars. It is basically done straddled, and has not been improved at all since 2007/08. They need to fix it or take it out and find away around that CR.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Can anyone tell us who were the JNR/SNR AA medallists?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Will we ever see Shona's Shaposhnikova again? She did it nicely at Vics 2009 but then we never saw it at nationals 2009 or Vics 2010. If she added Shap uprise 1/2 or 1/1 that would take her routine up to around 6.0 and would make her much more valuable to the team.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ashleigh Brennan was the only one that put up a floor routine that would be competitive for Comm Games or World.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I would be picking Georgia B and Ashleigh so far for the Comm Games and Worlds Team. They both have the start scores to be competitive. Ashleigh probably needs a bit more time, considering this was her first real competition since Beijing!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I found it very hard to understand the scoring for the IDP 10-Senior, it seemed to be really inconsistent from one group to the other.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Good on Waverley for the fantastic results Georgia B Vic champion
    Angela Junior Vic champion Angela
looked as good or better than the
seniors what a star this girl is.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree, Angela is a superstar, lovely girl and works so hard, well done Angela!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow! Waverley has a very strong program and by the looks they seem to be dominating in the VIS scholarship stakes. I thought their seniors all looked good and Angela was outstanding!!! Well done girls!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. She is the next star for Waverley, I can't really see the Collister twins doing much from an AA point of view and even in some ways as apparatus specialists

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think you seem to forget that the VWHPC had 3 scholarship holders that were not competing and have been members of the National Squad and AIS/GA Olympic squad.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Also Georgia Rose Brown should be looking at gaining a scholarship in the next round, and also Amelia McGrath, which would mean some people will have to miss out, that could be a changing of the guard, with some of the current seniors missing out and the juniors stepping up as the next generation

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why should anyone miss out, surely they can just give out more, the government should be supporting young elite athletes, and this sport is so demanding they should reward their efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Waverley is doing incredibly well with both the senior and junior champs! Angela in particular was just stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  67. All the gymnasts who competed tonight should be congratulated, not just our Champions! It was a really strong level of competition and congratulations to all programs and coaches!

    ReplyDelete
  68. MLC have a fabulous program also, Michelle appears to be very nice and supportive to her girls and they have some great gymnasts... Amelia is absolutely stunning on floor and beam.

    ReplyDelete
  69. All the Victorian HPC clubs and the VWHPC have some wonderful athletes and coaches and not everyone can be a champion at this point in time. There were a number a talented young athletes that competed in the IDP 5-10 Sessions, and they all work really hard and deserve to be acknowledge as well!

    ReplyDelete
  70. So true, It's very eciting to see how well the whole state of victoria is going accross all the programs.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi all - I just don't see it - how well the programs are going across Victoria?? Sure, there are some great things happening eg. Waverly has done a good job with producing their girls and there are some good routines here and there.....but overall compared to say, the late 90s when Trudy, Melinda, Zeena etc. were around the depth is nothing like what those girls produced - there were no double backs as an opening line on floor for example and that's 10 years ago!! I am really hoping Georgia B, Shona etc. have some more difficulty up their sleeve or there's no way we'll be competitive at worlds!!

One more thing - I know there's reasons behind it with respect to the scoring etc. but I really miss the days when the girls mounted with a bit more than a silly looking leap onto the beam - it looks sooo level 5ish!!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. i agree the level of difficulty of most australian gymnasts is really under at the moment. i know a double tuck is worth a D on floor now, but come on they should be doing one E skill at least (like Ashleigh's full in) i know a lot of girls are coming back from injury etc. but the same thing (injury wise)happens with all elite gymnasts from over the world. you dont see the americans after coming back from injury putting a double twist as there second line in their floor routine.they come back ready at the same level they left from! the way i see it, if your not ready to perform at your maximum potential dont put your self out on the floor. and yes gymnasts need competing experience but they should be getting experience doing the high level skills and getting confident with them. im sure most of the seniors are highly confident with putting out a double tuck so why not lift the game? are they just playing safe?

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's not just up to the gymnasts, it is the coaches job to up the girls skills. Gymnasts need to be guided by their coaches as they seem to determine the fate of the girls. So maybe Peggy needs to make sure the coaches are on board and teaching all girls the high skills not just a selected few. All the girls are working hard to improve there skills, and I admire them. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  74. anon at 8.45am - At the beginning of the year i was really looking forward to Vics - seeing Britt's Weiler Kip and Zoe's floor - Mez had mentioned her full in, LO-Dbl front, oh well - have to wait a little longer. I know that girls train skills much harder than they compete and yu don't often see those skills until they reach senior level. I would have liked to see some upgrades by the Collisters though.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Unfortunately there have been many rather large changes to the code of points since the likes of Trudy, Zenna etc... the deductions on skills are so large that it is just not worth the risk. If a D is only worth 0.4 and an E is worth 0.5 yet you lose 0.5 if your chest is too low or 0.3 for a step, as a judge I undestand why the coaches are making these choices.

    ReplyDelete
  76. you can't be comparing the girls of today to the girls of 10 years ago.

first of all, gymnastics has changed so much since Trudy and Zeena ect. were doing gymnastics. the point system has being changed, skills have either being upgraded or downgraded and the judging now is a lot harder than what it ever was.

a fall used to be worth .5 and now its worth 1 mark. i agree that we need strong skills but i don't think they should be putting in skills like full-ins on floor if they are going to land low and cop a .5 deduction or fall. .5 is the value of the skill!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anon @8.45, please think about what you are saying.

Do you really want the girls to compete high level skills when they are not at full fitness?

They are coming back from injury. The surest way to put them back on the sidelines is to push too fast, too soon.

They are practising these skills in the gym every day with the support of pits, soft mats, bungees and spotting. When the fitness levels allow, they WILL be able to add them into their routines in the place of, say, their double twist on floor.

No one can possibly make an Olympic team with a ruptured achilles or fractured neck from a short landing.

I admire the girls and the coaches for the progress they have made so far, knowing that this is not the final product.

And with regards to the comment about the Americans -- I can think of PLENTY on instances where their top gymnasts have watered down at regional comps, or even just not competed altogether. Don't forget, this ISN'T the Olympics. This is a qualifying comp to Nationals, which is a qualifying comp to CWG, and Worlds, which is a qualifying comp to the Olympics.

Surely the safety of our girls should be the first consideration?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Obviously the person that updates the WGC website was not there on the night to know that MLC came 2nd in the Team for JNR/SNR.That is untrue to state that MLC came 3rd, when they didn't. You need to make sure you have the information correct, before placing it on a website WGC. The VWHPC did not compete as a team, as they are not a club, they represent all clubs who have athletes at the centre

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't understand why VWHPC can't have a team.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yes that is a stupid rule. Do they at least get put in a team with their club of origin?

    ReplyDelete
  81. People who expect the girls to go out and throw all their big skills at every meet clearly have no idea about elite gymnastics and the toll on the body that would take. It's a process of build-up and peaking, rather than one of taking unnecessary risk. Vics is hardly a major meet.

Re the comment about the Americans, yeh, they always look ready, but we only see them in big meets like Nationals and the American Cup. I'm sure if you saw them at small warmup meets they would not be doing their max difficulty either.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I agree - i think alot of people don't understand the concept of elite training - girls are working towards goals and skills may not be ready or perfected at the time of a comp like Vics - it doesn't mean these girls are not working on difficult skills it just means that you won't see them until they are ready.

    ReplyDelete
  83. i am an elite gymnast. i hate competing skills im not ready to but i also hate competing a watered down routine. i would rather not compete at all then putting up a basic routine, but my coaches say its for experience! it frustrates me. im confident when i compete the less difficult skills but not so with the difficult. its not that im not ready to do them but that i havent had enough experience competing them because myself/coaches have taken them out because of the 'risk' factor. i guess in the end my coaches know what is best but i can see where the frustration of viewers comes from but people need to understand that its not always the gymnasts choice.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Just to set the record straight, the VWHPC can compete as a team,if they wish, the rules allow for it. They choose not to, and you would have to ask them the reasons. I'm happy to speculate. Either :-

a./ They are a kindly and benevolent lot who think it is unfair for a centre that gleans it's gymnasts from elsewhere to enter as a team. MLC and Waverley have no such qualms. Or :-

b./ It wouldn't look so good if the State funded HPC were beaten by a 'club', and you can't lose if you haven't entered.

    ReplyDelete
  85. To Anon June 15, 2010 6:31 PM,

The third reason the VHPC may not have entered a team is because of the weird rules that state that a club has to nominate their team during general warm up regardless of numbers.
This means that even if you only have 4 gymnasts all in the same level, you still need to nominate them as a team. Useless protocols if you ask me.

Perhaps with the language barriers with most of the HPC coaches, they failed to nominate a team.

    ReplyDelete
  86. i believe there was a similar situation last year, surely a language barrier/mistake wouldn't happen two years in a row! (my personal opinion is that they don't want to loose)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nope! They actually refuse to nominate a team. A couple of years back the scorers assumed a team, as you have suggested, and the s**t hit the fan. They cracked it because they didn't want to enter a team that wouldn't win. So now, to avoid any future unpleasantness, all clubs are required to enter a team nomination sheet. The VWHPC chooses not to. Nothing at all to do with language barriers.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Dear Anon 6:31 PM,
Of your two options, I wish option a. was the right one but now that I have finally finished laughing, I know there is no doubt that option b. is the correct answer.

Another post mentions that the HPC might be "constrained" by the rules. Don't worry, when you make the rules, you can break 'em. Mischa is a master at manipulation (not cheating) it's just that he will not enter a team unless he thinks there is a good chance of winning. People might recall the exact same situation at last years Vics and the load of complaints on Mez's blog then. Nothing has changed.

    ReplyDelete
  89. hold, so why didn't they enter the IDP10 as a team as they had no competition so VWHPC would have come first.
Everyone in this sport forgets about the gymnasts!!!!! and how they feel!!! I am sure the VWHPC girls would have liked to have been included, even if they didn't come first

    ReplyDelete
  90. I was the person who commented on the American gymnasts not competing double backs on floor....etc.

I do understand the gymnasts 'watering down' their routines is not necessarily the gymnasts choice - infact I it probably is mostly up to the coach. I also understand if the girls are coming back from injury they don't want to be competing full difficulty/may not be ready etc.

However, i still think the depth, overall is lacking. I understand gymnastics has ofcourse changed a lot in terms of the skills being competed & the judging etc. Perhaps I wasn't clear in what I meant - in the late 90s Trudy & Zeena were competitive with the best in the world.......I don't think Shona, Georgia etc. are competitive with the best in the world. Rule changes & requirements aside. They may place top 20 say, but I doubt they would win a world cup medal, for example.

I really do hope I am wrong and they do go on and win medals at worlds. I'm sue a few will be won at commonwealths, but as I said unless they have some more difficulty up their sleeve (which they may - I hope they do), I doubt we'll be that competitive internationally based on what I saw at Vics.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I am not quite sure i understand the need for this animosity towards the HPC - so they didn't enter a team - big deal - why is it any concern to anyone. They have their reasons whatever they may be, why should it upset spectators, aren't we there just to watch the gymnasts? Why create this rivalry? The gymnasts clearly have no animosity between each other and are all very friendly to each other. and to the person who all but called Misha a cheat - oops sorry manipulaotr!! isn't this blog wonderful where you can get on and sully someone's reputation without offering explanation or putting your name behind it - you remain in perfect anonymity whilst at the same time calling someone else into question!! If you are going to make comments like that back it up.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The way they awarded the team results was a joke - all scores for senior and junior on day 1 were added up - so it would make no difference to anyone whatsoever - Waverley won the team competition even before it started as they had more gymnasts than anyone elso - if i knew that was how it was going to be scored i wouldn't have bothered antering a team either - purely as a protest!

If the HPC had Britt, Fiona, Naomi and Zoe competing they would have won using this scoring system and then everyone would have complained that they only won because they had more gymnasts. there are some people that just want to see the HPC falter no matter what the consquences to the gymnasts

  95. I believe that HPC did not enter a team as they wanted the focus for the girls to be more individual rather than team based.

  96. Hey ANON June 15 9:52PM,
Keep your rude comments to yourself, how dare you berate our coaches and our gym,you obviously have some anomosity against the VWHPC. Mischa is a great coach and us parents appreciate that he can teach our gymnast with his experience and knowledge of coaching. ..well done Misha, Tracey, Max, Tatiana and Nadiya on a great result at Vic's.

  97. To say that Waverley only won because of their numbers is itself a joke. They won because they had the better gymnasts and this is clearly reflected in the fact that their girls also took out the individual senior AND junior places. To say anything else takes away from the girls achievements. Waverley did an incredible job and would have won the same medals with or without the HPC girls there.

  98. Anon at 1.02 - that was a reference to the team event - nothing to do with the individuals as was the theme of the last few conversations and if you look at the team results it is quite clear from the scores that Waverley won because of the number of Junior/Senior girls. this is also clearly a fact and not a joke - you need to put the comment into the correct contect of the conversation.

  99. The comment regarding scores looked like it was directed at GV or who ever decided that they would score team in that manner - not at WGC or the gymnasts - correct??

  100. anon at 1.02 - you are now taking away from the HPC girls and MLC girls as also won medals in apparatus and individual:
    Junior WGC 5, HPC 7, MLC 2
    Senior: WGC 10, HPC 2, MLC 3
    IDP10 :HPC 12, MLC 2

  101. Vic Champs teams for senior/junior combined team are 6 in a team with 3 scores counting. These are the official rules and this is how the scoring/results were calculated over the weekend.

woahhh way to over react, i dont think the person who was writing that comment about Mischa meant it in the way you assumed. in fact i think the person was saying that mischa will stand by his girls and do anything to protect them whatever the cost and i know mischa very well. i hate how people get so angry and take things personally on this blog. everyone is entitled to an opinion and just because its not yours dosent mean you have the right to tell them they are rude etc. besides, this bog was put here in support of australian gymnasts and was not put here so people can bitch at one another about petty thing that shouldnt concern so called 'fans'. the way i see it, if the gymnasts are happy then you should be. i dont see them complaining about the nationals teams etc. some people just need to chill, you cannot change decisions that are not yours to make and seriously would people stop comparing waverley and the VWHPC. could you imagine, if those girls from these gyms read this blog (many do), how it would make them feel. all they want is your support an be acknowledged for what they do...gymnastics! and that is what this blog should be entirely about...the GYMNASATS and their GYMNASTICS! poor mez must hate reading some comments people leave.

  103. if you add up the vic team scores - you will see that all the girls scores counted - waverley scored 290.35 AA for one day - that is clearly not 3 scores.

  104. look at the team results on the GV website

  105. Oh so true, all the gymnasts need our support no matter where they are training. They all work hard and we should be encouraging them and hoping that they will all have an opportunity to represent our country.
Keep up the good work girls as we are all very proud of you... and you all deserve to be looked after equally.

  106. Anon at 1:43, I agree with what you're saying but I don't like the way you attack 'so-called fans'. I get the impression that most of these comments are coming from people with connections to the clubs in question and not fans who just take an interest in the sport.

It is not very nice to automatically blame 'fans' especially since they are the ones who go to the effort of posting videos and providing reports to keep this blog going.

I agree with your sentiments, however if you re read the post that started the whole Waverley Vs VWHPC thing, it was very likely a comment made by MLC - they were the only other team there who could possibly have "not nominated a team in protest"
Fans will be drawn into these debates if someone fuels them. It's comments like those that lead people to believe there is in fact a great deal of rivalry between the clubs ( not necessarily the gymnasts). My daughter is one of them and gets along well with all the girls from all the clubs. Don't believe for a second theuy are not well aware of the politics and rivalries between their coaches and clubs.

  108. I think it's great how despite all the arguing the gymnasts from different clubs get along very well, after all they compete together on Victorian teams and Australian teams together...it seems to just be the adults that get involved in the silly arguments! I personally enjoy watching all levels of gymnastics, don't really care which leotard a girl is wearing and think it's amazing that such young athletes can work so hard and achieve so much in spite of all the politics surrounding them.

  109. Hi guys.

It's getting a little hot in this kitchen. This post is now locked to comments (hopefully... I was never very good with technology). Sorry to take the fun out of it for everyone else but it's getting a little much (and doesn't make for super encouraging reading in my inbox).

Let's be honest - the results from the weekend can't (and won't) be changed and goading one another isn't helping what should be a positive movement of support for gymnasts and their progress.
