A Little Big Time

Hello and all that!

Still here, scuffing my heels as the gymnastics world slowly recovers from the London party.

Gymnastics Australia have given us an update on the recent junior camp in Canberra.

A highlight of the camp was the exquisite quality and skill direction demonstrated by Peter Abbott and his young WAIS crew – many Adlers, Double layouts, Hindorfs and Shaps were on display.

Woweee!

And the VWHPC has just announced you can book now to have a chat with Ashleigh Brennan!

How old and what level do you have to be to go to a Junior camp ? I saw girls names there that just competed IDP 8 !

I don't think it is age or level as much as skill level. Those girls you talk about who have just done 8 (the ones mentioned in the article) are now working 10 and have some pretty awesome skills. The fact that they are mentioned shows that they are up there with the other girls who attended. I think the girls are mostly 13 and 14.

What exactly is an Adler though?

Who got VIS this year? Why haven't Gymnastics Victoria put it up yet?
Gee their slack : (

I know a VIS athlete and their forms have only just been sent out recently so they will probably put up information once they are given the ok. If you think they are slack why don't you ring them and ask them. I just rang them to ask them about tickets and details for this weekend and they were great, not to mention half the staff are running an event all this week.

VIS were given out to some of the girls 2 weeks ago. I suppose there waiting on some of the girls that have just come back from London to decide wether their staying on?

What is/are VIS?

Victorian Institute of Sport
Runs mainly through VWHPC but also Waverly and maybe Jets now with Isis?

Thanks. So in the context of what the previous commenters are saying, what does it mean?

e.g. "VIS were given out to some of the girls 2 weeks ago."

They're not giving out the Victorian Institute of Sport(!), so what are they giving out?

Sorry, not meaning to be painful, just trying to understand. Are they meaning scholarships to the VIS or something?

Anonymous said...

Scholarships (from the Victorian Institute of Sport)based on results achieved.

Anonymous said...

Thank you. That makes much more sense now.

Do other states also award scholarships, or just Victoria?

Sorry - all these questions!

Anonymous said...

Other states also award scholarships. normally IDP 8 amd up, who have come top 2 at nationals.

Anonymous said...

NSW don't. Perhaps they could've kept some girls on if they did

Anonymous said...

Queensland doesn't either so your not Alone!

Scholarships come in different types and awarded by the varying institute of sports dependant on funding and the status of the sport. For example the NSW institute of sport does not have women's gymnastics as part of their sports but Victoria has it as a tier one sport.

QLD has scholarships through QAS - girls IDP 8 and up Boys Level 9 who AA podium. They have done so for many years as far as I know?

Anonymous said...

On another point, has there been any retirements?

Anonymous said...

Queensland only does subsidy to travel scholarships not full scholarships for fees and travel many girls on idp10 and up only get partial scholarships and these girls have placed in top 2-3 at nationals

Anonymous said...

It is my understanding that the VIS scholarships are only partial as well... usually helping out in the form of travel and access to the VIS equipment and staff.

Mind you I could be totally wrong - it's been known to happen!

A few years ago there were Gold, Silver and Bronze levels of scholarships - with the Gold going to only a select 1 or 2 (like Monette)

NO ANNOUNCEMENT OF VIS YET?????????
WHY???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Anonymous said...

Instead of shouting on an anonymous blog why don't you ring them and ask when it would be published. I did and the answer was simple, as soon as they are given the official information from the VIS they can release it. They are not allowed to until then.

I like you post it to much Be consistent, be kind and be deliberate. Don’t ask “Can everyone come to the center of the room?” If you ask a question, be prepared for various answers, like “no!” Instead give the children a task to complete. “Everyone come to the center of the room in low level” or “choose a traveling step to the center of the room and end in a pointy shape.”Gymnastics Programs For Kids
