Tom Calls Time

Queensland's Thomas Pichler announced his retirement from artistic gymnastics today. His statement is linked below.

We wish Tom all the best in the future, and thank him for his inspiring contribution to the sport.

I’d like to officially announce my retirement from competitive gymnastics. For the past 20 years, I have been training at the Queensland High Performance Centre and the time has finally come to hang up my guards once and for all. As a five year old with too much energy, to my time in London recently, Gymnastics sport has taken me all over the world and I have memories that will last a life time. It has been a tough decision to make but all good things must come to an end. Getting to go to the London Olympics as first reserve, I feel as though I have reached my full potential as a gymnast and would like to leave at the top. I have, however, not been on this journey on my own and there are many people and organisations that I’d like to thank... [read the full statement]

Just wanted to say thank you very much for posting the work order -- I would have missed it otherwise and I really appreciate it.

What do the question marks mean?

Anonymous said...

Most of the QAS seniors will not be competing due to injury so the work order will definately be changed.

Anonymous said...

anon 1:50 - could you possibly update us on Joura N, Joura D, and Sims? Thankyou

Sims hasn't trained at QAS for a couple of months but she is doing some training. I think she said she was doing a bit of training at her old gym in Toowoomba. I don't think she will compete National clubs but you never know with Chloe. Dasha hasn't been training for a couple of months either. Natalia has been training and is improving. Not sure if she will be ready for National clubs. Hope she is. Hope this helps.

Is the work order up for IDP5/6/8 yet? if so does anyone know numbers

Anonymous said...

It's not that hard to find the workorder. It's here http://www.gymnasticsvictoria.org.au/?Page=23359&MenuID=Events%2F20273%2F12403%2CWomen%40%5E039s%5FNational%5FClubs%5FChampionships%2F20972%2F0
But you won't get any names until definitive entries close on the 10th November.
You only have to look at the website - it's all there

Anonymous said...

You will find that this changes quite a bit. Everyone had to pay $20 just to say they might be competing. Clubs have only just made the final decision as to who will actually compete.

Anonymous said...

Sorry - definitive entries close 10th October not November - duh!

Anonymous said...

So excited to see Natalia back in action! Hope she is okay to go!

What is the head coach position being advertised on GA's website. Is Peggy leaving. It is a bit strange as there has been no announcement that she is leaving.

Anonymous said...

Where is it advertised? I can't find it

Anonymous said...

Never mind - just had to click refresh. This would be a standard procedure after a set number of years and might be a formality. But then again who knows - is there anyone capable of taking on the role here in Australia anyway

Anonymous said...

'Gymnastics Australia is currently accepting applications for the National Coach for Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)...'

That does sound like Peggy is going.

Anonymous said...

My understanding of the situation is that the role has been declared vacant, but Peggy is welcome to reapply if she wishes. This came from a coaching staff member at our gym.

looks like celeste Loo has retired and Casis has moved to Epping...

Anonymous said...

Casis moving again wtf what's wrong with that girl can't she settle in one gym?

Anonymous said...

This is the problem here, why cant people just support our gymnasts rather than bag them?
What is wrong with finding the right gym? At least she's still in the sport. Seriously, you dont know the story behind this so you should mind your own business and shut up!
I say, good on you Jazzy!! Keep fighting!! Dont let low life scumbags like that let you down!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:51,

Why would you even say whats wrong with that girl? You shouldnt speak if you dont know the facts!!! Do you think her or her family likes to move around?? Maybe don't talk about her if you dont know what's going on.....

To Anonymous 10:51 pm.
For your information,I won't go as low as you are to even used the word "WTF" cause am at my age now that l don't just write comments that l don't know FACTS.I won't hide as Anonymous Iam Jazminne Casis Grandmother and a very PROUD one and l definitely know all the reason's why Jazminne move from one club to another ,but l won't tell you just to please you.You haven't got the right and knowledge to even comment the way you did.I won't go any further from here and won't even explain to anyone "WHY" she did what is best for her specially not to you NASTY PERSON.And lastly if you haven't got any nice thing to say to anybody better off you shut your mouth cause l won't go down to your level just to JUSTIFY your comment.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:51,

Don't ask what's wrong with Casis..... Ask yourself what is wrong with you???

Anonymous said...

Why has Celeste retired? Injuries? Such a shame as her gymnastics was truly beautiful. I wish her well for the future.

Anonymous said...

Go Grandma! My daughter is a gymnast and would move heaven and earth for her to be happy and achieve her dreams. Don't make judgements when you don't know how hard is to find the right balance for your family.

Anonymous said...

It's just like Toddlers and Tiaras!

Anonymous said...

lol

Anonymous said...

i think its a good move, both for her and emma nedov. training is always easier when you have a training partner, hopefully these two can push each other to achieve even more!

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone giving 10.51pm such a hard time. She hasn't said anything wrong. It is a normal thing to say to a gymnast that has not been happy at so many gyms. Of course her family is going to say there are good reasons why she can't settle. That is her families job. The fact is that when a gymnast changes gyms this frequently there is generally a problem with the gymnast. Just because 10.51 is curious about the reasons doesn't mean she doesn't support Casis. As for the "wtf" comment, it sounds like she is just amazed that she has moved AGAIN! I am sure most supporters apart from her family members want to know the same thing. So Grandma, with all due respect, why don't you tell supporters the reasons and stop all the gossip instead of saying "she has her reasons". If you want to be an international gymnast in any sport, there is no privacy when it comes to their chosen sport. Their private life beyond training is a different story. So perhaps it is time to man up Jazminne. So why does she keep moving? Is it poor attitude, conflicts with coaches or other gymnast?

Anonymous said...

Anon 11.09am - assuming you really ARE Jazminne's grandmother, you said you didn't want to go down to anon 10.51pm's level, and yet you tell him/her 'shut your mouth'? A bit hypocritical I would think.

Anonymous said...

Omg!!! So how do you know whoever said that 10:51 comment is a she?? You're all going on about nothing! Get over it! That is casis's business whatever she does & no it doesn't mean she has an attitude problem. So cheer up ppl!!

Anonymous said...

Go Epping!!!

Anonymous said...

Just out of respect for Tom don't you think it would be nice if all the wag posts are on a separate posting.

Anonymous said...

I agree 8:15am!

Anonymous said...

Anons 8:15 and 9:32: How about you both say something nice about Tom then (who's post you're commenting on) instead of/as well as critising everyone for supposedly hijacking this thread? Seems a tad hypocritical otherwise!

Anonymous said...

*criticise sorry

Anonymous said...

I already have said something to Tom, he has been an awesome ambassador for our sport and a great role model for our up and coming gymnasts. Lovely guy.

Maybe when there is little gymnastics news around and hence things are quiet on here (like at the moment) Mez could possiblity open up a general comments thread, so that we have somewhere to post comments that aren't necessarily related to a recent thread?? That way, other threads won't need to be hijacked. Sorry Mez if this suggestion doesn't work/is too much hassle!
