nothing for Angela? i guess like Zoe she mustn't be ready

Anonymous said...

Wow Georgia Simpson must be doing very well at camp!
Emily winning trials, did lauren not compete? Her start values are higher..

Anonymous said...

That's a big team to Gymnix - are there 2 divisions?

Anonymous said...

GREAT that so many of our girls are getting assignments in the lead up to Olympics.

Good luck to all!

Anonymous said...

simpson must have improved massively for sure to get all these assignments - i didn't think she was THAT good at the test event, just no difficulty...

Anonymous said...

Its nearly all our seniors at gymnix!

Anonymous said...

No Georgia Godwin only reserve..is she injured . Would have loved to have seen her on the team.

Anonymous said...

Do we only have 4 juniors to pick from?

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the juniors can improve on their Junior Commonwealth games performances.

Anonymous said...

the seniors at camp who didn't get picked for anything:

Amaya KIng Koi
Shar-Lee Clark
Emma Nedov
Katie Wurth
Natalia Joura
Zoe Lorenzin
Angela Donald
Georgia Bonora

Anonymous said...

does this mean they have no chance for the olympics?

Also, has anyone heard if any of the NCAA girls will be trialling for London?

Anonymous said...

We know that Donald, Bonora, Wurth, Joura and Lorenzin are on the injury comeback trail. Far smarter to stay home getting their skills and fitness back than wasting 2 valuable weeks between now and May going overseas to compete. After all, there are 9 seniors going to Gymnix - there is only room for 3 more at the second trial after nationals.

Anonymous said...

I would love to see more of Donald, lorenzin and joura

Anonymous said...

Wasn't MAM in a boot up until now. My understanding is that she has only just come out of it and didn't trial at camp

Anonymous said...

anon 6.03, Emma Nedov won gold at Junior Comms.

And anon 6.04, those seniors were injured except for Shar-lee and Amaya

And anon 6.07, they still have a chance

Anonymous said...

Maybe MAM is going just for one or two events? Very happy to see Simpson and Brown getting a few chances. I like the look of the way this Olympic team might pan out- lots of beautiful athletes!

Any idea where Chloe Sims is at in her recovery? Is she still in the game?

Anonymous said...

Emma won gold at com games... She is now a senior. Leyden made some finals , Eade didn't make any finals from the results. There was no real competition and I think there was an expectation that they would do well.
I hope Emma gets some senior exposure and doesn't get left behind being a new senior

Anonymous said...

I heard that the Waverley Girls left camp after about 5 days into camp and that only about 6 girls did the AA trial. Only 2 from VWHPC.

Anonymous said...

I thought Nedov was injured?

Anonymous said...

Yes she was

Anonymous said...

what about Lorenzin? is she on the way back? and Wurth? They are my 2 favourites who have sadly been injured for sooooooo long....

Was there anything promising on the upgrade front?

Anonymous said...

MAM, Lorenzin and Nedov did not trial. Bonora and Donald I believe were at camp earlier in the week but not on trial day.

Anonymous said...

Any scores form the Trial?

Anonymous said...

I hope VWHPC does not schedule their open day when all the seniors and juniors are away...

Anonymous said...

I don't think Brennan did the trial either.

Anonymous said...

Lovely article about the WAIS girls. Well done!

Anonymous said...

Interesting, Simpson topped AA on second day!

Anonymous said...

Lots of gymnasts unprepared. Got to be in it to win it.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe that Programs would send girls unprepared for a trial, especially in an Olympic year and considering a lot of them had extensive experience at the end of 2011.Maybe some must think it is a "Given" that they will be selected because of "past" experiences.I would have thought that even if they could only do 1, 2or 3 events they should have to show the selectors they still are in the mix.

Anonymous said...

Mitchell must not have participated

Anonymous said...

The article said she won beam and floor so yes she participated. It referred to a shoulder problem so maybe she didn't do bars.

Anonymous said...

Correct - No Bars

Anonymous said...

Yeah I agree, after reading the article she must not have done bars
I wrote that common 5mins before laurens page shared the link

Anonymous said...

whats the deal with only 5 gymnasts going to the Olympics? 5 compete in the team qualification, 4 on the team final?

Who makes these decisions? Olympic committee?? I really think there should be 6 on the team if not 7 - give more gymnasts a chance to be an olympian!!!

Anonymous said...

The WA girls are looking strong, I hope they remain injury free as they are likely candidates for the Olympics. Unfortunately I don't see the likes of Lorenzin, Donald, Joura getting a look in. Monkton might be ok as Peggy really likes her. I wish everyone look over the next few months.

Competition 1: Qualifying Competition

Unlike in Beijing, the maximum number of competitors on a team is five, with four competing on each event and three scores counting. The top eight teams advance to the final.

The IOC would have ratified this recommendation from the FIG, with the overall aim to limit the number of Olympic participants. These types of decisions would have been made by all sports following an IOC directive.

Anonymous said...

Only 4, wow.

Anonymous said...

It's not that only four compete it's that only four compete on each apparatus. Like when Ash does beam/floor/vault and Larisaa does bars. Then we would need 3 AA competitors.

For me, realistically there are only a few competitors who have a look in: Lauren, Emily, Ash, Larissa, Georgia Rose, Georgia S, MAM and Nikki. Both Georgias and Nikki will have to upgrade a bit, Georgia S is still competing a double pike dismount from bars and with them looking for an AA position FTY vaults will bring them down so they need to push the difficulty up elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

Emily AA
Lauren V BB FX
Georgia S BB UB (fx)
Georgia rose brown V UB (BB) FX
Nikki C V UB (bb)(fx)
MAM RES

If Lauren doesn't do bars we would need someone who can do vault and bars which unfortunately rules out Ashleigh. Nikki could be a good option here as I'm pretty sure they are her 2 best events. I know it's way too early to call but this is my team! Who ever has the better vault out of MAM and Nikki would be on the team - the other reserve. There are obviously other combinations including Larrissa in for Georgia S (but GS Is my favourite so I'm playing it that way! Also, if lauren's shoulder issue is minor and she does bars then it all changes again! Wouldn't want to be a selector!

Anonymous said...

I am not completely sure but I think Australia may compete first on beam at Olympics because they finished in 8th in Tokyo. Australia came 11th in Stuttgart and started on Floor in Beijing I am not sure if this means that 10 to 12 start on floor therefore 7 to 9 start on beam or is it just a draw and I am reading too much into it. Australia does start on beam a lot but I guess World and Olympic team finals it is because of where they qualify. It is intesting Georgia starting on beam at Scam cup after Australia drew beam at CwG and Tokyo.

Good Luck to all the girls selected.

Anonymous said...

The session/first apparatus for all teams and mixed groups competing in the London Olympics Competition 1 is based on a draw conducted by the FIG, as it is for all World Championships and Olympic Games.

Anonymous said...

Obviously they're always on BB in TF because they usually finish 5th or 6th in prelims.

In prelims, it's just the luck of the draw.

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone forgeting about Georgia Bonora?

My dream London team

Lauren- AA
Emily- AA
Georgia B-AA (hopeing she can get her old floor/yurchenco 1.5 back if her ankles hold up)
Ashleigh- FX,Vault,BB
Larissa- UB

Also hope Chloe Simms can be in the mix.

Also feel its a shame Shona isnt considering a run for London considering even in her current shape shes probably just as competitive as the majority of our contenders.

Anonymous said...

I don't think we'll really know where everyone is until nationals. I'm tipping that will pretty much be the indicator as to who has a shot and on which events. We will also be able to rule athletes out after that because if they're not ready by May they're probably not going to be given any leeway.

Same goes with upgrades. I suspect we will be able to take what is shown in May as what we can expect to see on the floor in London, thereby avoiding excuses being made for those who don't have their difficulty up to scratch.

Anonymous said...

I am actually wondering if we might see any of the NCAA girls take a potshot at the Olympics... why not? They're all in shape, all competing enough difficulty to at least make the top 12 for Trials, and will probably all be home for the northern summer. Mel doesn't really have a gym to come home to (she was an AIS girl, right?), but Liv and Shona both do, with former teammates still going, and supportive coaches. Injuries is the main thing... the NCAA season is pretty brutal.

Anonymous said...

i am 100% positive the NCAA girls wont be trialing. why would they? they've moved on.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. They need their offseason too. They compete every week for months don't they?

Anonymous said...

um, because it's the OLYMPICS! duh

not an opportunity anyone should sniff at

Anonymous said...

Yes but Olivia and Shona have already been Olympians and as much as I love Mel Jones I think we all know he has no better chance to make the Olympic team than Lorenzin, Joura and Wurth etc.

It's weird about Georgia Bonora - I'd love to see her on the team but she has been so MIA lately...maybe that's why she has been left off some people dream team predictions lists. And what was it someone was saying about her having annual surgeries on her ankles? That dpi da so excessive to me, so they must be in rubbish shape - maybe she is approaching retirement, unable to cope with her ankles any longer? But then I did hear she was in Canbags during the week.

I see no reason why Lauren would not do bars. Just cos she isn't right now doesn't mean she wouldn't at the Olympics. To have Emily do AA and Lauren only three events seems ridiculous to me - Lauren is the better all rounder and should be competing all four the same way Emily is.

I noticed Lauren's ankle was taped in that photo from The West - we can certainly speculate about that til the cows come home!

Really only a very select few girls have a legit shot at getting to London, as has been mentioned. The team will definitely come out of Lauren, Ash, Emily, Larrissa, MAM, Georgia Rose and Georgia S, with 50/50 chances going to Georgia Bonora (but only cos of her injury status - we just have no idea where she's at right now), Nikki Chung and Georgia Wheeler.

I am disappointed Amelia McGrath is off the radar - what has happened to her? Injured? I know she has not been going to camps, but what is the go? She has a small chance at making the Olympic team too, so is she hanging around so as to make a (what I think could be a great) splash post 2012?

Anonymous said...

There is no way in hell that Lauren won't compete AA She came 8th in Tokyo with busted ankles AND they used her bars in 3 up 3 count in finals! It is nuts to leave her off the bars line up!

Lauren and Emily AA Larissa and Ash share (Bars for Larissa the rest for Ash) as they're a perfect pairing. And then a 3rd AAer out of the three Georgias (W, Rose B, and S) and MAM. That is the most logical team formation based on difficulty values, experience and consistancy (somewhat). The last AAer will need friggin sweet bars because you can't use Emily in finals on bars, so that may cut out GW as GRB, MAM and GS have better bars (once GS upgrades her dismount - soon I hope!)

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't discount the likes of lorenzen and Donald yet - they have excellent d scores it is just unfortunate they have had injuries but they could well come out and be the dark horses

Anonymous said...

lorenzin has had injuries ever since I can remember, she is just not reliable and too much of a risk to include...sorry

Anonymous said...

As long as the peak at the right time

Anonymous said...

It's all well and good to have high D scores but if you haven't competed internationally in ages how nervous would you be on the Olympic stage... then how reliable would you be?

Anonymous said...

Anon 8.20
You are probably right about Lauren doing AA, however there were several statements in the article that pointed to the possibility that she might not.
She has a problem with her shoulder - which could be minor or might not be. Even if it I minor she won't be doing the numbers on bars that she would normally do and bars is her weakest event and not one she can just jump into without perfect preparation - she works VERY hard on her bars to have them he way they usually are.
They said they want her to make as many finals as possible - you could surmise that they aren't going to risk her beam and floor by working bars which is extremely hard on even healthy shoulders.
She is our only legitimate medal chance and I don't think they will put the team before that.
Also, we think she didn't do bars at the trial.
IF she doesn't do bars everyone else needs to be able to (no Ashleigh) which completely changes the team requirements.

Anonymous said...

Also, in relation to doing worlds on "busted" ankles that was a completely different situation with a team qualification on the line.

Anonymous said...

Georgia B had some minor hip surgery end of 2011 and is taking things slow and steady. She will know soon whether her ankles will stand up to another run of punishment. Good luck to her! Unfortunately there are no prizes for being a cripple at the end of the 'glory' of being an olympian!

Anonymous said...

Anon at 11:50 AM - after Australia qualified a team to the Olympics by making team finals, she then went on to do AA in team finals, AA in AA finals and floor in floor finals. I am not insinuating that they forced her to compete with "busted ankles" I'm saying that even when injured and sub-par she STILL came 8th in the AA... why then would you deny her the chance to qualify for the AA by sitting her out of bars in prelims. With an injury to come 8th in that field is sweet, given full fitness she could be top 5 and pending falls from some other contenders she's a chance at AA bronze. You just wouldn't sit her out of bars unless the injury is bad enough to warrant that.

Also I think it must be a minor injury because she still competed her vault at trials and you certainly need shoulders for a double twisting yurchenko

Anonymous said...

And as the past few years have shown, Lauren is no quitter, she works her hardest to perform her best and she gets good results
8th is great considering she is up against girls with Amanars

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:03
The dark horse has bolted, although i still believe Peggy likes Donald a lot, so if she dosnts make this cycle she will have other opportunities.

Anonymous said...

I would think Lauren would compete AA if she could, I am sure she would like to compete in an AA Olympic Final. However as mentioned by other is she can't compete bars then that rules out Ashleigh which is also a shame because at last year's worlds she was in Australia's top three on all the bars. I am really hoping she competes the Tsuk 1.5 this year.
I hear mention of three AAers (Lauren & Emily & someone else), Ashleigh VT/BB/FX and Larrissa UB. That makes sense to me but if Larrissa's floor was better than the third AA is it possible for her to competer floor in prelims and Australia only have two competeing AA in prelims. Only two can compete in AA final anyway and it will be tough for Australia to make TF so they should maxmise their chance to do so.

Anonymous said...

At the last couple of world championships Larrissa has scored the same if not outscored ash on fx so it is still a strong event for Larrissa. It would be really nice to have Chloe sims in shape because ultimately her bars would be of great use and so would her vault. Chloe is a fantastic vaulter when she does it cleanly. She could fit nicely on to the team with that possibly.

Anonymous said...

Agreed! Chloe would be a perfect fit for any team we put up. Anyone with solid bars and vault would be awesome. I expect Nikki Chung to start filling that spot in future years if not ready for this year.

Anonymous said...

What does chloe do on vault?

Anonymous said...

Some kind of handspring vault - layout half?
I think this is from nationals 2011.

Anonymous said...

Thanks! It looks good
Just a random though, could britt do NCAA?

Anonymous said...

I love Chloe but unless she has a pony tail and a scrunchie she has buckleys making London....

jokess peeps jokes.

Anonymous said...

But you're right. They don't like her - no matter how good she is they won't take her to London. The sooner people accept this, and accept that Lorenzin is not going to make it to London either, the better.

Anonymous said...

I hardly think its unrealistic for Chloe not to make the team. She had barely been training and was 1st at nationals on bars and 3rd on day 1 of competition in the AA. She's been training for longer now even if she has been injured. So she would be looking better and more confident. Her chances if she is 100% is more then high. If she performs at nationals. She can't be denied. She is far more realistic then Lorenzin so I wouldn't class them together.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, if Chloe has enough time to get back to where she needs to be I think she will be a great chance of getting on the team. She may not be Peggy's favourite but Peggy's not an idiot she won't leave anyone off the team because she doesn't really like them.

Anonymous said...

Yes she will.

Anonymous said...

Well even if she doesn't like Chloe she put her on the ais/Olympic squad last cycle when she didn't have to. She was chosen over other girls because she earned her spot at nationals. I'm telling you right now. If Chloe can make top three and is top scoring on a couple of apparatuses come nationals she will certainly be considered. Although its is known Peggy doesn't like Chloe, it is ignorant to think she wouldn't be put her on the team because of her dislike for her.

Anonymous said...

Sooo what are the chances of Lauren nipping a bronze in the AA at the Olympics? If a couple of the favourites fall i say shes got a chance.

Anonymous said...

She would have a chance but I think she might need more than a couple to fall. She would have come fourth without a fall in Tokyo but five of the top eight fell and even the top two had mistakes. Her bars hold her back and I think it will make it tough for her but you never know.

Anonymous said...

her bars are too weak, her only chance would be if she had an amanar to offset bars....

Anonymous said...

Without an Amanar or a killer bar routine, she's looking at 7th or 8th place at best, I think. This isn't 2009 anymore. Floor will be her best chance for a medal, but even then, without further upgrades, there are enough others catching up to her to push her off the podium even if Lauren hits her routine perfectly.

Still, it's the Olympics.... weird shit happens. :)
