Pacific Rim EF

Results as they come to hand.

Alex Eade placed 5th in the junior floor final (OOB on her double tuck combo pass). Sounds like it was well-received by the crowd though! 13.725

Her vault is here:

On the men's side, Brody Hennessy finished 3rd on junior vault!

Check it out:

We have quickhits happening here.

Georgia Simpson is on crutches, watching from the media table. Apparently she has taken small pride in the fact her injury practically "made a whole crowd pass out"! Good to hear she still has some spirit despite a big setback.

Josh Jefferis hits his rings routine for bronze!

Auss trampolinists strike gold!!!

I am SO frustrated I couldn't be home as this was all happening!

Mitchell 5th in beam and floor finals. Little 4th on bars.

International Gymnast has an update on Georgia Simpson here.

If you would like to see a HD broadcast of the event as it appeared on NBC - including Emily's beam and floor which we haven't seen uploaded on their own yet - go here. There is a really lovely moment between Emily and the team after her floor.

Well done Alex. Great job for the future

the official scores do not show that she went OOB, not sure where you got this from

I've seen Georgia's injury on youtube and it truly is sickening. Her foot was literally at right angles. I'm so glad her spirits haven't been dampened and that she is still remaining positive. Good luck Georgia in your recovery and we hope to see you back out on the gym floor again very soon :)

I don't mean to be gruesome, but could you possibly tell me where you found it? poor georgia :(

Lauren 5th? Hmm

Anonymous said...

Lauren did not look good this meet. She fell in both her EF. Also she could barely get her double tuck around off beam, which does not instil much hope in terms of the double arabian, it is more likely she downgraded simply because she couldn't get the double pike around. Also only a yurchenko full.

Furthermore, something has to be done about the jumps after the tumbles. The full in to 130 degree split looks awful.

Mitchell just had a bad day at the office - everyone has them. Good to get it out of the way early on in the season ;)

Em's beam is finally up on youtube.

I also heard recently that Lauren regularly downgrades her vault unless it is a very very very important competition, which, with her injuries, and in the grand scheme of things in an olympic year, I'm guessing this was not. So I am not worried. Why over exert her tired, trying to recover body when she should be saving it for the Olympics? I've no doubt she will pull out her big guns comes trials and London.

Emily little is really pushing the DD. I think she looks good ;). Really liking the floor and beam upgrades. hope she can tidy up a bit and it eventually pays off when it counts ;)

Totally agree anon, I fully support her resting for the Olympics
The best shot Australia has ever had at a medal and she is very determined

Dislocated thumb for Chloe today :-(

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but who is interested in a dislocated thumb! There is a WA gymnast dealing with a horrific injury, shattered Olympic dream, perhaps the end of a career and we have to hear about Chloe's sore thumb! Get over it!

Mez said...

Please don't troll. Just because someone has sympathy for one gymnast's injury doesn't mean they have NO room left for another's.

Oh dear Anon March 23, 2012 12:11 AM

Perhaps a little reality check for you...

We all have sympathy for Georgia and understand the implications of her injury. This does not however preclude us from also having sympathy from another athlete who is also injured.
Both have an Olympic dream, both have this at risk.

Having sympathy for one, does not cease the sympathy for another.

Additionally, I think we are all interested in things which effect this year's team selection.
As horrific as any injury is for the gymnasts, we are interested.

^^^ they said my thing, only much better. :P

Thanks Mez, :-)

What I really wanted to write was..

GROW UP

Just because we brought another little sister home....doesn't mean we love you any less!

Oh no. Chloe was just recovering fom her shoulder injury and pulling out some awesome bars. She has horrible luck. I hope your thumb heals up quickly and we see you at Nationals. You are a fantastic gymnast and the team would be so much stronger with you.

Hey anon 12.11 am- don't like Chloe hay or do you hold a grudge. Perhaps he said something you didn't like. Shame!!
Well unlike you I hope all the injured gymnasts recover quickly.

Dear All,

I write to advise that Liz Chetkovich has tendered her resignation from the position of WAIS Women's Artistic Gymnastics Performance Manager. Liz has made this decision based on an extended reflection of not only what she has achieved in her gymnastics career at WAIS and before but more importantly what she wishes to achieve into the future.

As you will all be aware Liz has been the driving force that has developed the WAIS Women's Gymnastics Program into the leading gymnastics program in Australia and a highly recognised and respected program internationally. The personal commitment Liz has made to the program and to the athletes, staff and parents over the last 24 years has been beyond what even the world of high performance sport could reasonably expect. Liz will leave behind all the ingredients for this very successful program to remain so. I am also extremely pleased that Liz as part of her future life wishes to retain a connection to the program which will ensure her knowledge and experience are available to assist the program into the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for passion, knowledge and commitment to all things gymnastics and WAIS and congratulate her on developing a program that has demonstrated sustained World Class success.

Steve Lawrence

Executive Director of the Western Australian Institute of Sport
