Pacific Rim Podium Training

6:30am in Melbourne and news is coming thick and fast out of Everett.

Australia's women are currently in podium training alongside favourites China and the USA.

Follow The Couch Gymnast at Facebook for live updates and photos, or The Gymnastics Examiner here to get detailed live quick hits.

And while you're whizzing around on the web, check this out: VWHPC has a lovely new website!

I always thought it was odd how hpc didn't have a ga website theme
And tierra is not listed, I guess that confirms it

Australian coaches have *got* to do something about improving our vaulting. It really is beyond a joke. Even some of the USA juniors are throwing armanas, and we're lucky to have a couple of our seniors doing DTYs. It's not like our girls aren't capable of better vaults. What they need is better training on this aparatus grrrrrr.

You are probably right but I also think our coaches should be commended on how far the have got our girls. I really think last year was a good year and this year will be our best year ever in comps. I think they are starting to get our girls up to international levels were they can compete against the best of the world. I guess we will just gave to wait and see what happens at pac rim then there is still time before the olympics for more up grades to be introduced that are probably already being practiced. I often here in here how so ans so is practicing such and such so I am putting my faith in them and that they will have them ready to show off in the olympics :) all of you have a great day Go Aussies and coaches :)

A double twist yurchenko is extremely difficult to do.

The gymnasts are doing the best they can.

Also, there are over 3 times as many people in America than Australia.

Please think longer than 2 seconds before you post your idiotic opinion of what you think Australian gymnasts need.

Anon @ 2.41.....it's getting boring hearing the same old argument over and over!!! There's more people in the US than here in Australia and the girls are doing the best they can blah blah blah!!!

Why doesn't the same apply to swimming and other sports that we dominate??? I don't see why just because our population is smaller that our girls can't do the same skills as the girls in the US. Like a previous poster said, the juniors in the US are performing Amanars!!! Why can't our seniors. No Excuses!!!!!

I think they would be training them at wais, into the pit at least
I can imagine marony would be going for a triple seeing how effortless it is for her

To anon March 16, 8:57pm,

I, like everyone else here, am entitled to an opinion, thanks very much. And before you label my opinion 'idiotic', perhaps you should pause for breath and think before hitting the send button. As a former gymnast, I'm acutely aware of how difficult a DTY is. That doesn't mean they can't be taught to our gymnasts, many of whom, imho, have the potential to perform them.

Who's said anything about your post being 'idiotic?' What post are you referring to anyway?

it would help if we had some Afro-american spring in our tumbling genes to pump out those amanars...
