We Love You Liz

We have been left a rather sad notice in the comments.

Dear All,

I write to advise that Liz Chetkovich has tendered her resignation from the position of WAIS Women's Artistic Gymnastics Performance Manager. Liz has made this decision based on an extended reflection of not only what she has achieved in her gymnastics career at WAIS and before but more importantly what she wishes to achieve into the future.

As you will all be aware Liz has been the driving force that has developed the WAIS Women's Gymnastics Program into the leading gymnastics program in Australia and a highly recognised and respected program internationally. The personal commitment Liz has made to the program and to the athletes, staff and parents over the last 24 years has been beyond what even the world of high performance sport could reasonably expect. Liz will leave behind all the
ingredients for this very successful program to remain so. I am also extremely pleased that Liz as part of her future life wishes to retain a connection to the program which will ensure her knowledge and experience are available to assist the program into the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for passion, knowledge and commitment to all things gymnastics and WAIS and congratulate her on developing a program that has demonstrated sustained World Class success.

Steve Lawrence

Executive Director of the Western Australian Institute of Sport

please ignore the frazzled idiot on the right.

Liz has done an incredible job over the years. she will be a great loss to the WAIS program and to gymnastics. I wish Liz luck in her future endeavors and would like to thank her for everything that she has done for gymnastics.

Wow...Australia's first lady of gymnastics will be sorely missed. All the best Liz - hope to hear your commenry in London!

Let's all pray that she retires from commentry too!

I think she is one of the best gymnastics commentators in the world. After Roy and HG of course!

I hope she's going to head up the VIS program now.

Liz has been on a twelve month leave of absence so we are unlikely to see any great change.

The VIS has a great structure and program, they are fine without the assistance of Liz!

So it's official - Lauren has officially withdrawn from competing in the AA at the olympics (as reported in the West Australian Newspaper). She's only going to concentrate on training the 3 other aparatus to help the team total in order to keep her shoulder from further wear and tear. Emily will now lead the AA charge at the Olympics. Thoughts?

bye bye Brennan. There's no way Peggy is putting a 4.6 UB routine up at the olympics.

maybe they will take the risk of only competing three? or maybe this opens the door for Donald or Bonora?

3 is not an option. Qualification is 5 in a team and 4 scores count. So every other bars score will count INCLUDING falls!

Is there a list of our current national squad bars start scores? Would be interested to see who has the difficutly we need.

I hope Simpson can recover from her injury in time to at least swing bars.

no qualification this year is 5 in a team, 4 compete, and 3 scores count...

I would love to see Georgia S recover in time to make the team but I think given the 5 per team I think she will need more than just bars.
I think the two highest bars d scores for this year are Larrissa 6.2 and NIkki 5.9. Larrissa should also be able to complete floor and NIkki vault. One of these two will also have to compete beam if they are both in the team I would think Nikki would be better on beam than Larrissa. Maryanne had a 5.7 at Gymnix. I assume Emily will compete AA as long as she is healthy. Her bars are 5.4 this year, her weakest event but she is reliable.

I think Georgia Rose had a 5.6 and Ash a 4.7. There is a thread on wwgym that lists d scores for the Australian team.

Cool...thanks anons for the above bars info.

Is it possible for Ash to compete AA is she improves her bars. As mentioned earlier she is so consistent on beam and floor and ok on vault. But this means that Emily's bars scores is likely to count and whilst she is reliable it is her weakest apparatus. In this case Australia would need to have two reliable bars workers maybe Larrissa and NIkki.
Could the team be something like
Emily AA
Ashleigh AA
Lauren VT/BB/FX
Nikki VT/UB/BB
Larrissa UB/FX
Or would it be better to have a the second AAer being more of a UB/BB specialist. Emily has upgraded on beam and floor and should be able to be used in TF if Australia were to make. But with Ash in the team she will be definitely have to compete bars.

What happened to Brennan's bars? They used to be so much better.

Anonymous said...

And she was competing AA at Gymnix (Brennan I mean). Maybe she is making an AA effort once again?

I just looked up 2008 results - Ashleigh had a 6.3 D score on bars. I know the code has changed since then so hard to compare - but It was the same d score as dasha and Olivia had 6.6. I hope she is working those bars! If she were to get back over 5.0 on bars she would probably be the best option for the team.. I hope that Lauren's intention not to do bars has been known across the national program for some time and that everyone has been working hard to upgrade here.

It looks like the main skill she has lost is piked stalder, which causes her to lose quite a lot of difficulty. However, I don't think this skill is too hard to regain for someone who has done it before, so hopefully she can get it back soon.

Brennan, 21 years old and still committed to being a champion. Results support the dedication and commitment shown by this gymnast. A true blue Aussie, who we all should be proud of. Bloggers at this site could acknowledge these achievements, instead of making ridiculous comments. Put some perpective around Ashleigh's career to date and express your Thanks. Well done Ashleigh Brennan, you never give up. From a proud Aussie Fan.

Yes Ashleigh has had a great career and I would love to see her on the team to compete in London. I don't think anyone is really being overly critical but are just acknowledging that it may be difficult for her to make the team unless she can improve her bars. I for one really hope she can nd improve her bars and compete AA.She is so consistent on beam and floor Australia could really use her there. Also her vault isn't bad, if Australia has three DTYs then her Tsuk full should be fine to compete in qualifications, she may get her Tsuk 1.5 back too.
