Forever Chung

The West Australian has a small feature on Nikki Chung today, which reveals she has a World Cup assignment this week and that Olivia Vivian has indeed returned to the WAIS fold.

Update: Nikki will indeed travel alongside Larrissa Miller this weekend to compete at the Osijek Grand Prix Challenger Cup on bars, beam and floor. Good luck, ladies!

The Satellite also has a quick feature, including video from the Kyle Shewfelt Invitational, on male Olympic contender Josh Jefferis.

"I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch," he said.
If you can disregard all the background crashing, check out this new video interview with WAIS wondergirl Lauren Mitchell (filmed in the AIS gym). She talks about her London expectations and funding for the national program.

OMG! An old media article that correctly named a move! I almost fell over

Good luck to Nikki.

Continue to adore that leo... it's divine! Go Nikki, we're rooting for her.

Why was everyone complaining about the prices for Nationals? I just bought a ticket for myself for the TF and the AA elite sessions and it only cost $70 total.

I understand if you were wanting to attend every single session, then yeah, it'd be expensive, but really, who would be doing that?

This is really exciting news. Fingers crossed we get some video from this comp -- I'm dying to see what Nikki's upgrades are on beam. Can I guess that she might be doing a tuck full? Interesting that the article confirms that Olivia is back as well.

Go team!

:)

And will be REALLY interesting to see how Larrissa is looking on beam these days!

Anonymous said...

In answer to who will be at every session, that would be me, though I will be working :)

Larrissa will not be competing on beam and vault for at least this year as far as I know. This is what she told me. She and he coaches have chosen to focus on her two pet events and by judgin her fx routine lately, it seems like that plan is going very well.

Anonymous said...

Larrissa only competed UB and FX at states.

Mez said...

Well, I looked again and it's a nominative participant list so she may not be doing beam after all.

Anonymous said...

Maybe like some of the boys she decided to hold back till nationals and give it her all at nationals in hopes of an olympic berth

Anonymous said...

the latest edition of international gymnastic magazine page 44. great mention of lauren. makes me so proud of her

Mez said...

What does it say?

(I no longer subscribe)

Nikki qualified for floor final and second reserve for bars.

Anonymous said...

Larrissa didn't show. Not surprising really when Vlad has a stable full of Olympic contenders at home.

Anonymous said...

Nikki really hasn't done herself any favours. Obviously fell on bars going by very low score and had an e-score in the 5s on beam! Floor only 4.9 difficulty. She has the difficulty but if she can't hit it's a moot point.

Anonymous said...

I guess that all depends what others are able to show. We have to have a balance between difficulty and consistency because no one that I can think of is really showing both at the moment. Don't forget this is still preparation phase. This competition was not a trial - it was experience building. Judging by the scores at recent domestic comps not too many girls are hitting at the moment.

anyone going to vics tonight? has anyone been to the venue before?

Any big names competing?

Sorry for all the questions- im surprising my girlfriend by taking her there!

Anonymous said...

Shame Nikki didn't do as well as she can, but she still has time though. It is probably better for Larrissa that she didn't go, she is very experienced and it will give her more time on her new floor,

All victorians are competing
The Georgias, ash, mez, zoe, Angela, Amelia

Anonymous said...

i wish you were my boyfriend....lol

You can see a lot of Olympic contenders

Brennan
Brown
Monckton
Lorenzin
Wheeler
Donald
Bonora
McGrath
Lowery

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't call lowery an Olympic contender even if she is eligible

Anonymous said...

Anyone videoing or reporting from vics this weekend?

Someone please please say YES!

If you are just letting you know that your a champion in advance!

Hope Georgia B and Angela are looking good ;)

Anonymous said...

I heard Georgia B and Angela not doing all 4 apparatus, can't see how they can be contenders either for the Olympic team

Anonymous said...

Well Dasha is not yet ready either. Its early days. Georgia B has a good bars routine which the team needs and if she can get healthy she is good on all 4 apparatus.

Anonymous said...

I remember Georgis B came a long way in a short time in 2009 so I wouldn't rule her out yet. I remember hearing that Dasha's learns skills quickly so she is probably some chance still. Although unless she is training beam she is no chance because Larrissa is close to being a lock and she won't be able to compete beam.

Anonymous said...

Any vic champs results as yet?

Anonymous said...

scores are going up at - http://www.gymdata.com.au/latest.asp

Anonymous said...

I would say lowery is looking better than Lorenzin from what I saw tonight anon, she has a gorgeous floor routine and is solid on every apparatus.

Anonymous said...

My early prediction of team

Dasha
Lauren
Emily
Larrissa
Mary ann (possibly georgia B if her bars comes back)

Reserves
Ashleigh,Georgia B and GRB

Having specialists is so tricky with this new 5 per team format. Wish lauren was doing bars

Were you watching the same Lorenzin as me? Her vault was amazing even if she did water it down to a single instead of a dty. Her beam is beautiful and the only fault was an over rotation and fall on dismount.

Anonymous said...

yeh....if zoe has her DTY back by nationals and can get a 14 on beam (she got 12.95 with a fall tonight) then I'd say she's a decent chance. Plus I would imagine her floor can improve too.

Anonymous said...

can anyone elaborate on performances/upgrades? thanks

Mez said...

Sorry I can't be at Vics this weekend.

We've started house-hunting. *feeble cheer*

Anonymous said...

Yes Zoe was good, I'm just saying Isis was also looking very good! Did you see her floor? I would say she has artistically one of the nicest floor routines going around. And a yurchenko layout full, the same vault that Zoe competed I believe.

Anonymous said...

Isis finished ahead of Zoe, but come time for Nationals, I don't see that happening
Can someone please say what tumbles Zoe did?

Anonymous said...

Actually the current individual aa scores on gymdata are incorrect as they don't include the last apparatus. If you click in the individual names you will see their final score and zoe finished ahead of isis

Anonymous said...

Oh thanks
I thought it was suprising

Just going to say as much as i rememeber off the top of my head-

Ashleigh brennan- fell on VT (tsuk 1.5) UB (fell on giant 1/2, included a toe on-toe on full- tkatchev, overshoot, double layout dismount) BB- usual routine, pretty solid. FX- full in split jump, double tuck, fell on layout front layout front full, double pike sissone.

MAM- the 'standout' of the night- good yurchenko full, UB- hit routine, think she just hit 14 (5.9 SV) BB was alright, nearly fell off on something, FX- triple full, 2.5 twist- punch front, double full-straddle jump, double pike. Hit routine.

Zoe Lorenzin- VT- high yurcehnko full UB- i think she fell on something, nothing spectacular here. BB- fell on dismount, otherwise showed her usual routine. FX- piked full in (REALLY big) double tuck, front layout, fell on double pike.

Georgia Rose- VT- yurchenko full i think UB- pretty decent, nothing spectacular. 13, something i think. BB- dont look too great, but solidish. FX- tumbling is average, beautiful choreography.

Georgia Bonora- Solid Bars, nothing too difficult, included a Comaneci, and a double front dismount. BB- was pretty solid, getting her skills back here!

Angela Donald- UB- fell somewhere, BB- VERY solid but just a layout off.

Isis- Biggest fan base here tonight, nothing spectacular though.

Everyone else was pretty average, Amelia McGrath i think even fell within 1 second on her beam routine.

Based on what i saw tonight, i think besides MAM, i really dont think any others have a chance- Ash Brennan REALLY needs to hit VT/UB- we COULD scrape by with both (5.5/5.4 respectively) but she needs to hit them!

I think all the HPC senior girls looked stronger than the other programs. They were performing higher start scores, yes making errors, but looking like they are more prepared for Nationals than others

Anonymous said...

how about the juniors??? any good skills?

Anonymous said...

Only 2 Juniors from HPC - Grace Flood and Kiara Munteanu, they both looked pretty good. Kiara Munteanu has improved so much, she did a really good double arabian on floor

Anonymous said...

Well I would hope the HPC seniors would be looking stronger because they have been travelling getting overseas experience over the last 12 months while other program girls have been injured. There would be something wrong if they didn't look prepared.

Anonymous said...

Zoe has not been travelling, so that is not 100% true!

Anonymous said...

HPC had 50% of the athletes out there tonight, shows the strength of the program at the HPC

I just finished my report- I don't know if it adds much for you but here is the link- http://www.thecouchgymnast.com/?p=6159

Great report, Couchy! Where were you? I was on the very left side of the front row. I agree -- Mary-Anne really really impressed tonight. Overall a great comp and definitely worth the trip.

So excited for Nationals and Olympics!

Ange

I heard junior Aimee Warnock fell and was hurt. Did she compete on all apps? Any news?

Anonymous said...

Sorry IDP 10 not junior

Ange,

I was on the floor. I have media accred and do Gym Vics reports for them, so I was squeezed somewhere between beam and floor on night one!
