Well that was not realy a suprise!
Congratulations girls but in my opinion Australia was capable of a stronger mix.
Good Luck and go prove me wrong.

Wise choice.

Hopefully cheers, then, 11:51!

Best of luck and well wishes girls :)

Would love to see all the results from the trials, can anyone update these now the announcements out?

A great choice of team after much hard work by all involved, careful thoughtful deliberations and much discussion by the selection panel!!!! Goooo AUSTRALIA!!!!

Anonymous said...

Don't know why the big kerfuffle yesterday about leaked secrets. This was posted on the Australian Olympic site yesterday. http://london2012.olympics.com.au/news/mitchell-and-team-out-to-floor-them-in-london
Why have a big announcement at 11.30 am today, when it was already published?

Anonymous said...

Congratulations and good luck.

Anonymous said...

A great team! Now the countdown till the games...

Anon 12.00
Why could you have not posted that link yesterday.
Everyone thought people were betraying trust in this blog when it was already out there and published for anyone to see.

Anonymous said...

I think this is a great team with so much experience. I hope those who didn't make it keep going...their time will come, particularly once some of the older ones retire. Good luck to all!

Anon 12.34, found it early this morning but the thread from yesterday had been removed, so had nowhere to post it until this thread had been opened.

My sister Larrissa Miller deserves this soooo much and let me tell you all why =) she has heart & she loves gymnastics .! she is strong and she is powerfull .. she is dedicated .. she is loyal to the sport .! she deserves this because she gave up her life for gymnastics, as her sister I barely get to see her she is normally away and training indefinately and as a family this is the biggest achievement and we are all sooooo proud of her .. All the tears and laughter we have shared is now all worth it my sister LARRISSA MILLER is an olympian =) My love goes out to all the girlsthat made the team and to all the girls that weren't so lucky this time .. my love also goes out to the families aswell because this is not just a sport its a lifestyle to all that are involved .! GO AUSTRALIA .. Nicole Miller xo

You know what, really happy for Georgia! She has had a rough road, and I'm sure has often battled through uncertainty and doubt. Go ahead and be critical, but you've got to step up at selection not six months before and despite her injuries she managed to time it perfectly. I bet she killed it at trials! You go Gbo!!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for sharing that Nicole! Great to hear from family.

Nik said...

Pretty pumped about this team. I watched the trial and thought it was the strongest bunch we've had in ages! Last Olympics there were 7 contenders really and this time all 11 who trialled looked great.

Ultimately I am pretty excited about the mix of difficulty and consistency on this experienced team. Go Australia!!!

Anonymous said...

The only surprise for me was Georgia B but she obviously did well at trials, well done to all the girls.

Anonymous said...

What talented children you produce Karen! One Olympian and one singer on National TV!!
Well done Georgia B and congratulation to you very supportive family :)

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to all the girls and their families! As the mother of a 2020 Olympic cycle gymnast I have an inkling of what you have gone through and sacrified for so many years. Best wishes to you all and enjoy every minute!

Anonymous said...

Congrats girls!

I reckon we'll have one of the oldest teams competing (youngest Em at 18, the rest in their early
20s). Not that there's anything wrong with that, I think it's a great team. Can hopefully kick some young upstarts' butts in London!

Anonymous said...

This is a solid team with equally solid reserves. Best of luck to all these girls!

It's a pity Dasha and Chloe didn't make it, but I guess they left their comeback efforts a little too late.

Anonymous said...

Wow, dissapointed for MAM

Anonymous said...

I hope Chloe continues training. She has so much talent and I am really disappointed that she missed out on selection. Congrats to the girls that were selected.

Anonymous said...

MAM must feel a little hard done by. Is anyone able to give me a comparison of hers and Georgia's scores from nationals?

Good luck to all the girls selected to represent Australia. I'm sure they'll wear the green and gold (or pink if the case may be lol :)) with pride and will show the world how fantastic Australian gymnasts are. Go team GELLA!!!

Anonymous said...

from what I've been reading, Peggy chose experience over SV's, hence her decision to take Bonora over MAM.

Mez said...

"Team GELLA", I like it!

Anonymous said...

Good Luck to all the girls........ However if Peggy went over experience to SV that is a shame. She doesn't have confidence in her younger gymnasts and that's a pity....it suggests to me that over the past 4years Peggy hasn't been able to support and help the younger cycle girls get the required experience I feel sorry for MM and GRS they have put their heart and soul into this sport, and Peggy has gone with the safe but not the strongest team. I'm not saying the girls selected don't deserve to be there but it is disappointing to see no younger girls in the mix. Well the cycles will be put to the test as the younger 2012 are really 2016 girls so the 2016 young girls better be prepared to stay around for 2020 .... And that's only if these Olympic girls don't stick around for another cycle.

Anonymous said...

where's the other WAG thread with the video of Loz saying 'goodnight'??

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I know. How are the younger,'inexperienced' gymnasts supposed to gain that much sought-after experience if they're not given the opportunity? Ridiculous.

However, it is what it is and all will be revealed on the floor come London.

Anonymous said...

Peggy looks like she's bawling in that pic!!

Anonymous said...

A CALL FOR ACTION!

Second trial appears pivotal, out of respect for gymnastics followers nationally, I propose through this blog, we rally to insist GA releases video content and/or reports from training, in particular reports with respect to MM,GRB,CS.

As commented previously, there is no "first past the post". To gain the respect of their constituents, GA must become transparent, release the superior high ground and engage.

Pleased for all the girls selected, feel for those who were not. Best wishes for all to remain injury free enjoying the sport & succeeding in what ever form they desire in London and/or beyond.

Anonymous said...

MAM
Totally wripped off!

Anonymous said...

Am absolutely stunned that MAM is not in. She would definately feel hard done by. Obviously Peggy took experience over SV. Totally sucks. Poor girl :(

Anonymous said...

I hope GRB and MAM stick around for 2016, they are awesome, i was looking forward to seeing MAM do her DTY,keep strong girls , being so close yet so far away, is a hard thing to handle. Congrats to the girls who made the team,GO TEAM AUSTRALIA!

Anonymous said...

Hang does anyone know how MAM did at trials? Because she was not only piped by one but two gymnasts for the spot everybody thinks she should have, if it were that close she would have been first alternate.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:19

Just because something didn't go your way doesn't mean you can demand to see things and complain about the choice.

There are a number of reasons for having the second trial closed and one of those is keeping the ill-informed and hateful comments off the internet.

If you want to be more informed and know what's going on become a high level coach or judge and become a part of the process.

Anonymous said...

GA lists two alternates, not 1st alternate and 2nd alternate.
This would give the team more options and allow the best reserve to be out in if one one is injured.

Anonymous said...

'There are a number of reasons for having the second trial closed and one of those is keeping the ill-informed and hateful comments off the internet.'

I highly doubt that would even be on the selection committee's radar.

Anonymous said...

That's completely true annon 5.14pm!

Anonymous said...

To anon 4.51 it's anon 4.19 here!

What part of my:

"Pleased for all the girls selected, feel for those who were not."

do you equate to:

"Just because something didn't go your way doesn't mean you can demand to see things and complain about the choice."

Precisely why this blog has been dragged to the bottom of gutter journalism. How many posts inclusive of hundreds of replies have required deletion in the past weeks? Indicative of? Suggest it's the culmination of personal hatred ironically you refer!

USA Gym even releases video content of camps.

My intent for call to action was to eliminate negative speculation through transparency.

One suggests you broaden the horizons, there is a bigger picture other than hatred.

Anonymous said...

It has actually been stated that GRB is 1st abd MAM 2nd reserve.

Anonymous said...

God, I hope the mainstream media or non-gymnastics members of the public never read this tripe.

Anonymous said...

I think GA got a bit carried away with the whole secretive bit about announcing the team and girls names being speculatively placed on the blog when there were other articles already out there. The gymnastics examiner also placed an article dated 20/6 stating that the selection announcement was released on Wednesday and she named the Team.
In the last thread people accused " people who had been trusted" for leaking the names, it was not that hard to work out, perhaps the order would have been hard to judge, but it was not that hard to know who was left at camp. It all seems a bit anticlimactic now .
I think this is good team, a safe team. We will have to see what happens. It will be interesting to see if we can hold on to sixth position with a number of countries improving over the last 4 years.Good luck girls!

Nik said...

It may not be "first past the post" but neither is Hockey, Basketball, Diving, and a number of other sports... we are not alone and like those sports there are experts doing the selecting, including coaches and officials. The internal footage is no one's business. The "arm chair judges" without the experience, the inside knowledge etc don't get a say in selection in ANY sport.

As someone who was at trial, anyone of those girls trialling could have been on the team. But the ones chosen performed well. GBo didn't fall, MAM and GRB did. GBo not only went to Beijing but Dehli and London for 2010 worlds, she is solid and calm. The one competition GRB and MAM are missing out on is the BIG one but there are other competitions - world cups, next comm games, world champs next year. It's sad to miss the BIG goal but there should be emphasis and recognition of the other comps.

Anonymous said...

Anon : 6.47 I think you will find that there is a 1st and 2nd reserve . I don't think it is "open" to whoever they want at the time if they need a re placement. GRB would be 1st in line.

Nik said...

Sorry Rotterdam... regardless GBo competed at worlds 2010 right?

Anonymous said...

Yes she did ...... Just goes to show its the quiet ones you need to watch! Congratulations should go to Waverley Gymnastics on her Olympic campaign.

Anonymous said...

Annon 6.54. You never now in the gymnastics world! :)

Anonymous said...

Sorry but "missing the big one" is just not as easy dismissed for a gymnast that has given up everything in search of the ultimate goal as you make out. MaM was ripped off, there is not two ways about it.
Transparency actually eliminates all the nasty, ill informed bullshit that is occurring at the moment. If the public knew the scores and could view the videos of the trials as in the USA I think much of the bad comments would be erased.
Transparency also ensures decisions really depict results. There are no loop holes for selectors to do the wrong thing. They are ultimately guided by the results only.
It is bad enough that there is no clear path for selection, but having no transparency is just ridiculous.
I have a couple of daughters doing elite gymnastics, and my husband and I have followed the selection for the Olympic team very closely. We do not want our daughters working so hard for a sport that does not reward in order of merit the achievements of gymnasts.
We will be taking both our girls out at the end of this year as we are appalled at the secrecy, favortism and lack of structure for all camps, teams and opportunities. It is a shame as we and others were there to be fans of the sport, but we will not support such bullshit. It is a lovely sport but in Australia it has been dirtied. It's no wonder it cannot get the support it so desperately needs.
I take my hat off to you Mez, you are a breath of fresh air in a dark sport. We have found your blog informative when our peak body could not provide required information. Thank you.

Nik said...

You can't go on scores alone. Its simple as that. The process has always been that way. How do you know MAM was "ripped off"?? Were you in the room with the selectors? Did you judge the competition? I can guarantee you that the USA trial may be televised but they will not choose the top 5, the selectors will make the decision that they see best to put out on the floor.

Did you think that the selection isn't about "the fans"? Its about acheiving the best result in London.

I feel sorry for those that miss out, maybe I was flippant about the BIG one but only 5 girls can make it... FIVE every four years. The girls need to be counselled to handle the disappointment because the amount of girls disappointed along the way far outweights the amount of girls who actually make it. That is reality. Sad, but reality.

Anonymous said...

I am totally aware that it is not the top 5 girls selected. I am also aware that they will have to choose a team that fulfils all the apparatus.
I was merely saying that if scores and videos were released to the public we would be able to see how they came to their decisions.
Its just a point of being transparent. Can you imagine what would happen in clubs if their was no transparency. A nightmare.
I forgot also to congratulate the team and I do not wish to take away their achievements. I am just al little annoyed at the lack of transparency and when a decision so left field is made it makes it hard to understand.

Mez said...

Although I have not heard word of scores being released, I am sincerely hoping my questions were adequate for Peggy to answer as that hopefully sheds some light on the team decision.

I also asked about leotards. ;)

From one who was at the trial:
MAM vaulted average yurchenko fulls both days, Bonora's were better, both days. For bars, MAM hit 5.9 routine first day, only 5.6 second day, but had many execution faults both days. On second day, she missed the first connection, had to cover and routine was very long, forced and lots of arched back deductions. Bonora hit both days, clean and stuck second day dismount. Clearly much cleaner routines, dispite the d-score difference of .60 on first day and .30 on second day. As for beam, on day one MAM fell on the double pike dismount. Bonora hit both days on beam. Bonora did not do floor, but MAM did, large step on an incomplete triple twist attempt, not even sure is she got it paid. On day two she took triple twist out and put in a double tuck. Both days MAM's double pike dismount was very low ands stepped forward. So the point is that MAM did not set the world on fire, Bonora was just a bit better and has the experience factor. I for one, think it was a wise decision, so did many around me who also attended the trial both days. I think for sure, if Vivian had another apparatus to contribute, she might have been selected, as her bars, both days, were flawless. For your information, there were 4 FIG judges judging the competition and spent at least 6 hours, both days, reviewing the videos of the trials afterwards. It was a unanimous decision in the end, after all that.

from gwa:

Gymnastics WA would also like to make special mention to another WA Olympic hopeful Olivia Vivian, who was not selected in the team, has been asked to stay on at camp. This is a testament to the leadership and support she shows to her team mates.

Anonymous said...

Dear Anon 7.57
Than you so much for that information. I for one feel much better already knowing that, hence, the need for transparency in these trails.
Can you tell us why Dasha did not compete, how did Chloe go and how did Larissa go?
thanks again

Anonymous said...

I saw Olivia Vivian at Nationals and agree she looks like she is just a fair dinkum great team mate to have by your side! What a pleasure she was to watch as she encouraged all of the Australian girls. I hope my daughter turns as great as her in such a sometimes individual, everyone out for themselves sport!

Anonymous said...

I do like Team GELLA
But I prefer Team LEGAL ;-)

Anonymous said...

The Liv Viv News just about brings a tear to my eye! Is she the non travelling reserve by any chance?

Anon 2 said...

Dasha was there in a tracksuit. Chloe on day one had a great bars but fell off beam in her layout and only just landed vault. Didn't do floor. On day two another nice bars but fell twice from beam and crashed vault. GRB looked nice both days but her DV is low and she also fell from beam.

Side note Angela Donald was a shining star on BB... Hope she sticks around and goes for 2013.. BB finallist for sure! Her DV on all other app was a bit low but she's been injured so I think she's come a long way!

LEGAL EAGLL

Oh this is fun!

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the insight!

not it completely makes sense that GBo was chosen.

Consistency is key - 3 up 3 count. we dont have the difficulty to count a falls and still place 6th or better.

MAM is a dedicated gymnast & I am sure whilst she may be disappointed to not compete at the games, she will not give up, or BLAME OTHERS for her not making the team. she will keep training & gaining experience.

Anonymous said...

If I was MAM I would have negative thoughts, get injured just before com games and now she had a good shot at making the Olympic team and gets put as reserve
I know its a tough sport but i really hope she hangs around, we need a leader for next years worlds!
All the best mez!

Anonymous said...

The people directly involved have not even appealed the decision, some of the comments on here are so disrespectful! I find it ridiculous that a parent would pull their kids out of the sport because of a team selection that didn't favour a particular gymnasts! The sport has so much to offer young girls, it's so much more than just Olympic selection, they learn to be disciplined, dedicated, organized and gracious in defeat! This is elite sport and the goal is the best team!

Anonymous said...

And also, said parents pulling their daughters out of this bullshit sport - well, the sooner you learn this sport is heavily influenced and decided by politics and who is Peggy's favourite the better. It has always been like this. Always political. Why do you think Chloe wasnt selected - Peggy never liked her and would never take her to the olympics when an obidient Miller or GRB would do everything she said, wouldn't challenge her and would keep up the pretty image Peggy loves.

That being said I always thought Peggy loved MAM. Dating way back to her baby days inside the AIS. When she couldn't go to Delhi I got the impression Peggy was sad and disappointed after her 2nd place aa nationals finish that she couldn't go on to Delhi and continue to succeed. I know it gutted MAM to miss the CWG. She was beyond devastated. But it also made her more driven and I got the impression again that Peggy helped MAM to have a great 2011, and indeed she did. Then she gets an AA medal in Sydney last month - I really thought MAM would be an Olympian. I know she isn't the most solid but I still thought with the high bars score and the VWHPC training and rep plus Peggy's devotion to her succeeding as much as possible (when she wasn't injured) would see her win a place on the team.

She must've really underwhelmed at the final trial and Georgia Bonora must've really blown them away.

I had forgotten that not only did Georgia go to Rotterdam but also London in 2009. I know we can rely on her and she will get the job done but I am so sad for MAM.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone please explain...if Olivia has been competing in the US for the last few years (presumably on all 4 apparatus') then why did she limit herself to just bars when wanting to be selected for the Aus Olympic team??? Seems like a shame. On a seperate note well done to the girls who were selected and good luck!!

Anon 2 said...

As Peggy put it in the ninemsn article: "Especially because of our draw, we start competing on floor and end on the balance beam which is the most precarious apparatuses and you need somebody who can handle that situation - that's basically what got Georgia Bonara over the line"

I really don't think Peggy is thinking about 3 up 3 count. We have to put the effort into making TF. Then anything more is a bonus. Peggy knows that: "We definitely want to make team finals (top eight) and we're capable of going anywhere," she told AAP

I think it's becoming more clear why the team was chosen. Georgia nailed THE apparatus when it counted.

Anon 2 said...

Anon at June 21. Olivia trialled on Bars, Beam and Floor. She had falls from beam and her FX wasn't really up to International Level.. bit messy and low DV I think. The Vault is also a clincher because Larrissa doesn't vault and Olivia didn't trial a vault

Anon 2 said...

Sorry June 21 10.30pm

Anonymous said...

Waverley have posted that Angela was 5th AA and 2nd BB at trial 2. I think if Lauren was doing AA she would have had a good chance to be on this team.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:38: Angela Donald is the non-traveling reserve.
Agree with Anon 8:40: Angela was easily the most comfortable of all the girls on BB. She came first on beam on the second day and has a very exciting future ahead of her providing she stays injury free.
Just putting my own 2 cents in; after watching the trials I wasn't surprised at all that Georgia Bonora was given a spot on the team. I don't know much about gymnastics but she was just comfortable and consistent. The other girls (GRB and MAM) were wonderful but you were never sure if they would hit their routines or not (GRB in particular had a very cringeworthy beam on the second day). But Georgia hit every one of her routines and is a reliable choice for the Olympics.
Re transparency: it's not a public vote on who makes it onto the team. At the end of the day, Peggy is head coach and you just have to trust that she has the best interests of Aus gymnastics and all the girls at heart. I know for a fact that she was in tears after all her one-on-one sessions with the girls telling them whether they made it or not. She has spent a lot of time with these girls, and it wouldn't have been easy to make the decisions she's had to.

Good luck for the future to all the girls that trialled - you were all incredible!

Anonymous said...

Olivia is actually the non traveling reserve , not Donald and remains at camp.

Anonymous said...

Well done to the girls selected - I could imagine a tough job - all do well in different situations - different days - different comps - hey that's the sport !

Anonymous said...

To those of you who saw the trial -- can you tell us if Lauren vaulted?

Anonymous said...

Someone posted last night that she did a FTY

Anonymous said...

I soooo love Dasha and cried that she wasn't selected! I saw her this year in person and thought she was beyond anything I had seen before! She was amazing! OMG she has such talent, I really, really thought she would be there and Australia might get in top 4.....?

Anonymous said...

Yes, Lauren did yurch full both days.

Anonymous said...

So who is the non travelling reserve? We've been given two different versions here. Funny if Olivia is still at camp and GWA said so, but didn't mention that she was non travelling reserve? That seems odd so perhaps the non travelling reserve IS Donald.

Anonymous said...

anon 11.29, where did you hear that? that is adorable!

Anonymous said...

Lauren did an FTY at trial but it was high and there was room for more twisting. Hope she will DTY for London. But obviously the focus is keeping her for her best in BB and FX with an attempt at a medal

Anonymous said...

Just for interest sake who was in the 2011 Worlds Team?

Anonymous said...

Lauren, Larissa, Emily, ash, maryanne, Georgia rose
Nikki as reserve

Anonymous said...

Anon 8.27 thanks!

Anonymous said...

That Tony thing was such bullshit. He whored the whole thing out for his own political gain, and stole the attention that should have been on the girls. No sooner was he out of the doors of the AIS gym, he was holding a press conference on the AIS grounds doing his usual spin on asylum seekers and the incompetence of the government.

Anonymous said...

Abbott could only steal the girl's thunder if we let him. I was definitely there for the announcement of the Olympic Team. Abbott and his crew were actually a distraction. Anyway, he did take the time to take photos with the girls, both in a group and individually and he did speak with the girls. Tony was a sport and jumped in the pit at the urging of the media.

Anonymous said...

There are two traveling reserves, not first and second.

Anonymous said...

GRB is first reserve, MAM is second reserve, Donald is non traveling reserve. Get your facts right before you inform others please!

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with annon (21st) 9.23,10.01, and 10.21!
MAM is an inredicbe gymnast, and I know that she is taking it hard but has the best sportmansship attitude, Ive seen, no nasty comments at all.

Wishing her the best for the future, by the sounds of that article, she is going to keep on training, hopefully towards Rio, good on her.
What do you guys think, will she make it to 2016?

p.s Ive never heard that Donald is a non travelling reserve, I though Liv Viv was?

Anonymous said...

Facts are correct.
The reserve most suited will be placed in the team should they be required.
Non traveling is Olivia.
These are the eight in resi

Anonymous said...

Yes 9.12 you are right! :)

Anonymous said...

'The reserve most suited will be placed in the team should they be required'

So if MAM gets her consistency up to par in the next couple of weeks could Peggy replace Bonora with her?

Anonymous said...

No. If someone is injured the best reserve to replace the injured gymnast would do so.

Anonymous said...

Ok, thanks.

Anonymous said...

This isn't like worlds where the team can be changed and another athlete swapped in if somebody is struggling. There is a process to be followed with the AOC And IOC if an alternate was needed to replace a team member. The team member would truly need to be injured enough that they cannot compete, it can't be done on the whim of a coach because an alternate is looking better in training.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8.43
That is correct re replacement and regarding 1st or 2nd reserve it is incorrect that the best one is used. If an athlete is injured then the named 1st reserve is used.
Please check selection guide lines and rules as set by AOC & IOC. Most countries take only one reserve. All athletes have to be named and given to IOC .

Jae Ilsley said...

Congratulations to Georgia Bonora. She's proven herself at international competitions over many years. At Beijing she was the highest placed Aussie in the All Around. Despite suffering from "Delhi Belly" she won individul bronze & silver medals, as well as team gold, at Commonwealth Games. She had a top 20 A.A finish at 2010 Worlds.
Georgia obviously performed consistently at trials- she thoroughly deserves her place on the Olympic Team.

Anonymous said...

How about you provide a link to those Jae?

Anonymous said...

For gymnastics results for Delhi Commonwealth Games and all world championships and Olympic Games in addition to many other international and national competitions a great all in one site is "Gymnastics Results".

Anonymous said...

Actually I think it's just the 5 named team members that are set for the IOC's purposes. My understanding is each country sets their own rules for alternates... the USA for instance will take 3 alternates to London, in no order, so that if somebody gets injured they will be replaced by the alternate who fills the gap the best. Anyone know if the Australian Olympic Commission requires alternates to be ordered??

Jae said...

I want to add that while I'm thrilled for Georgia Bonora and the rest of the team, my thoughts are also with the gymnasts who weren't selected. It reminds me of when Georgia's former training partner,Emma Dennis, didn't make the 2008 Olympic Team. She was the travelling reserve, but she didn't get to go because of an injury. She then went on to just miss out on both Commonwealth Games and World Championship spots.

My point is that elite gymnastics is such a competative sport, and sadly there will always be talented, dedicated gymnasts who aren't selected. There were only 5 places up for grabs in this Olympic Team.

All the girls who were considered for the team should be extremely proud of their efforts. I look forward to seeing them compete in the future.

She (Rebecca Tunney) had some kind of disaster on beam - 3 falls I think? All her other scores were over high 13 to over 14. She scored over 52 with a 10.2 on beam so she was on track for a 55 plus - comparable to most of our girls.

After looking at the results of the British Nationals, clearly the 'City of Liverpool Gym' is the place to be. Why would anyone want to go anywhere else?

Mez said...

... they don't live in or near Liverpool?

Anonymous said...

So move - like some of our top athletes do if they want to get the best training. The other clubs in the UK clearly pale into insignificance when compared to the 'City of Liverpool.'

Anonymous said...

Who out of our top athletes has moved to access better training? I can't think of anyone. MAM moved because her gym closed. Georgia Wheeler moved - but not far. I can't think of anyone else.

Anonymous said...

It's common for USA gymnasts to not only move city, but interstate to access the best gyms.

Anonymous said...

Georgia rose brown, a idp 10 at WAIS, a idp 10 to qas from country area. I am sure there are others

Anonymous said...

Lots of gymnasts have moved from NSW including MAM because there is no High Performance centre or any support. Are there many retirements? what will be the numbers for IDP 10 and up for girls left at WAIS, VIS and QLD?

Anonymous said...

If I had a daughter who was an elite gymnast vying for an olympic spot, and there was a club that was clearly streets ahead of the others in terms of producing olympians and top class gymnasts, I would move there in a heartbeat. I guess it depends on how badly you want it really.

Anonymous said...

Anon a 2.19 - how badly YOU want it or how badly SHE wants it? What if you had other kids? Is the shot at one spot in 5 every 4 years worth sacrificing opportunities for the other kids? Splitting up your family etc? Quite a few of the current seniors and HP girls have moved (Katie Wurth, Aimee Warnock Tiahn Pestery, MAM, the Joura family etc etc) plus a lot from the last quad (Hollie Dykes, Melody Hernandez, Monique Blount Mel Jones (?) etc). It's not worth it for everyone, not for every family situation. Hopefully it was worth it for them.

Jazminne Casis has moved from Gladesville to AIS to MBC to Westfields to Epping.

Anonymous said...

Maybe her family move a lot for work reasons. Apart from the move to the AIS it is hard to imagine any of those moves being made for the purpose of finding better facilities or coaching.

Anonymous said...

Well it would be hard having a program close on you and then trying to find somewhere that 'clicked' for you/your family. Stella Savvidou was at WAIS after the AIS and then moved to MLC. I really feel for those girls who had to try and find a program that suited them when the AIS closed.

Anonymous said...

Is Jasmine at Epping now???

Anonymous said...

Stella was at Epping, not AIS.

Anonymous said...

Any news from the training camp? I bet all of the girls are getting excited just 1 month out. They will be getting decked out in their Olympic outfits.

Anonymous said...

I think Jazminne is a Westfields. She definitely moved all over the place just for gymnastics, same with Katie Wurth (Penrith to AIS to QAS) and GRB (QLD to VIC).

Anonymous said...

How do you know it is just for gymnastics? Why would anyone move to NSW "just" for gymnastics?

Anonymous said...

why did the AIS program close?

Anonymous said...

And now for the big question....

What will the aussie girls' leos be like????

Do they get any say in choosing them?

I just hope it's not another hot pink and orange spewfest!!

Mez said...

I fielded that question to Peggy, no response yet.

What we know from the Beijing team was that they had about a half dozen leo designs made up that they would try on and then choose from.

Anonymous said...

To anon 11.47
GRB did not move just for gymnastics. You have no idea why she or anyone else moved around unless you are the athlete in question or a direct family member.

Anonymous said...

I think Jazminne left Westfields after Nationals and is now training at Epping

Anonymous said...

I think that if you have an extremely talented gymnast as your child and they are clearly capable of making an Olympic team but are not getting quality coaching where they're at, why would you stay there knowing she would have a far better chance of 'making it' at another club? Hence the reason why a club like City of Liverpool, which clearly produces better gymnasts as is evident from the UK nationals results, would be a better option than some of the other UK clubs. I know if it was my child I would make the sacrifice for the short term if it meant my daughter would have a better chance of achieving her goals. But that's me! I'm sure some others thing differently.

Anonymous said...

re: leos - I'd love to see them in a brighter shade of green for a change, like a lime or grass green, but that's just me! No doubt the 'aussie swirls' will be incorporated into the design.

Anonymous said...

Simple Scenario - you have a talented gymnast and a talented ballet dancer. (this can be 2 daughters or a daughter and son) Mum and/or Dad are employed in a satisfying career or well paying job. How do you decide or justify who should make a "sacrifice" to benefit the other?

Anonymous said...

God help you if you have a dancer and a gymnast! No pressure in that household! Seriously though, every family is different and it might be possible to make it work for everyone so no one sacrifices but everyone compromises. Just like most families do about all kinds of things every day.

Anonymous said...

It is always a huge sacrifice for families of elite gymnasts. i cannot begin to imagine or understand how a parents can move interstate and leave a partner and siblings behind, i think its really selfish as there are no guarantee's in this sport and very few make it. you have to ask yourself is it really worth risking a marrage breakdown and is the gymnasts really happy? and who wants it more the parent or the child?

Anonymous said...

The child in MAM's case, her parents and siblings could not move!

Anonymous said...

I think every case is different, and no-one has to right to judge the parents and/or gymnast. Unless you're part of that particular family, you have no idea about the complicated and agonising thought processes and decisions that go into making such a massive move.

Anonymous said...

Hi Anon 6:52,
I do agree with your comments - there are so many variables to consider which will differ from family to family. I am not making a judgement, just highlighting this decision is always going to be a complex one. The families who have made this choice (either way) have my respect and admiration. - June 28, Anon 4:27

Anonymous said...

I don't agree, to move and leave siblings behind is wrong wrong wrong.. I suppose some parents are blinded by the sport and will only realize how much bonding time they have missed when the program turns their back on you when the gymnast is no longer needed and you are left to pick up the pieces of a broken family.

Anonymous said...

In God's name why are people bickering over something so stupid and uncontrollable?

Anonymous said...

Exactly. I guess because it's quiet on here and they have nothing else to comment on!

Anonymous said...

On a different note , was anyone else as disappointed as I was with Kangarroo photos . I paid my 150.00 before the comp as they say they will take more photos but I have been very disappointed with the quality of the photos I have maybe 10 reasonable action shots out of only about 25 taken no vault no bars photos taken and poor quality floor shots I wish they would get someone who actually knows how to take action gymnastics shots to do the photos . The couch gymnast put up better shots from a private photographer than Kangaroo photos !!!

Anonymous said...

I can't view the kangaroo pics as they need a password
Where do we get this?

Anonymous said...

You shouldn't need a password for National championships just go into Kangaroo photos and view photos then select gymnastic symbol and then go into Nationals 2012 no password required ...
