Ouch. Really? They're the only elite club in the country that should be hanging tooth and nail onto their current coaches.

Nice speech by Ashleigh! She seems lovely. Graet to see more gymnasts continuing for longer and participating in the sport as an adult and hopefuly have a bit more input into their training schedule etc. Intersting, she didn't thank Peggy, did she? But.... she did thank some organisations eg GA....perhaps I am reading too much into it

WA are holding a Junior International Comp after AYOF. Good to see more international competitions in Australia - information on their Facebook page:

Are you looking for that last minute Christmas present for the gymnast in your family?

Buy some tickets to the Dreamlight Perth International Gymnastics Challenge where you will see the future stars of Australian Gymnastics, following in the footsteps of World Champion Lauren Mitchell. This tri-nation event featuring Australia, South Africa and New Zealand will be held on the 25th and 27th of January 2013 at the GWA State Gymnastics Centre and will feature great gymnastics and lots of fun activities too!

We will have Dreamlight leotards, event and gymnastics merchandise and a special event PHOTOBOOTH, which will provide opportunities to be photographed alongside several of the current Australian Senior International gymnasts. Olympian - Olivia Vivian will be a 'roving reporter' in the audience, with lots of fun activities and giving away many spectator prizes!

At the completion of both sessions, there will be autograph opportunities with the WA Senior International gymnasts, as well as a special team signing of all competing gymnasts following the Sunday competition. You never know - you could be getting the signature of a future World or Olympic Champion!

Tickets available from the event website - http://www.gymnasticswa.asn.au/?ID=26720

Sounds like a great comp!! What's happening with QLD? They got their coaches/act together yet?

No just prolonging it , seems gym qld cant decide so their going to postpone it . So same old same old in qld stuffing around their gymnasts once again . But whats new theyve been doing it for years . Promises of more coaching staff which never happens but the numbers keep going up and the fees.

wonder how many more new young ones the qld hpc will take on in january/february after their talent days ... 1 for the talent ... 4 for the fees!!!!

I happened to flick on the TV today just as Channel 9 was showing a gymnastics segment on 'The Shak' (a kid's TV show). One of their 'characters' went to the gym to try out skills - I looked hard, but I'm not too familiar with any of the coaches or gymnasts, but I think it was QAS (a aign in the background).

The gym looked rather nice and everyone was training lovely skills - even a female doing a spotted double layout with good form on floor.

Keep in mind these segments are often filmed 2-3 months in advance, but you might be able to find it on Channel 9's website?

the Shak ceased production in early 2010 so what you saw today is probably close to 2.5yrs old at least ... wonder who is still there!!! cC'mon QAS and GQ get transparent about what's happening ....

Qld gymnastics is so political its rediculous ! Thats the problem with gymnastics in this country and particularly Qld it is the politics that gets in the way of us achieving. Lets get back to basics and make it just about gymnastics .none of the political , secret squirrel, mumbo jumbo that goes on ! Is there any state or club that doesnt have this crap going on please let us know so we can defect to a state that actually gives a shit about its IDP gymnasts!!! And Peggy if your reading this please put an end to Qld politics and get them to make decisions already its unsettling for everyone and most of all the gymnasts! And the poor coaches extending positions for three months is not a solution decide who u want !

Bring back Ju Ping and the program at the AIS!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree! We stress in Qld about whats happening but in reality if Australia slips its ranking to past 12th spot then we will all be introuble

Anonymous said...

Why Ju Ping ?
Yes , she did a great job to pull AUS gymnastics out of sh--t.
1992 OG AUS- 7th, 1996 OG AUS- 10th.
Do you think Naional coach can prepare a medalist?
You are wrong, if you think so
Just personal coach's knowlege+ gymnast's commitment and talent+ lot of hurdles in preparation, including officials advises - how to prepare the gymnast etc...
Leave the coach alone.!
They know what to do !!!

any news about the men's program in qld?? what's happening there with coaching and gymnasts??? is it as mixed up and confused as the wag program seems to be by the posts here?? there has seemed to be a few boys outside of the hpc program achieving in the last 12months or so - are they being offered assistance??

Agree wholeheartedly with that comment above at 11.43pm. THe coach also needs support from both parents and administration. If one of those is missing failure ensues. So clubs please support your coaches and dont forget the needs of parents to know what the big plan is. Lot of clubs leave the parents and out and then we pull our kids out because it is not rewarding enough. Coaches, we love you!!!

very interesting to read and nice blog.

I heard that they have extended the positions as they are waiting for the funding to be released from the government

Anonymous said...

heard similar too ... but what a weak excuse ... sort out the coaching ... either you want them or you don't ... and then sort out the gymnasts ....

Anonymous said...

Sounds like one big, hot mess!

Anyone heard anything about how Bonora is doing after her surgeries?
