That was fantastic! That is how the womens training camps should be. An OPEN BOOK. Great work guys.
At least the men are doing something exciting at this time, what has happened to the women its strangely quite?
They have no money to send their girls to camp.
Who has no money?
I think Australian girls gymnastics would benefit greatly with this type of atmosphere and excitement at their own camps, surely there would be a massive increase in progression?
i agree with anon 11.32
Visibility out of camps and social media presence on the women's program side are definitely something GA have been made mindful of in this post-London rebuilding period.
At the moment, the gymnasts are being visited and reviewed in their respective state training centres.
What do you mean by "type of atmosphere" at their own camps?
"At the moment, the gymnasts are being visited and reviewed in their respective state training centres."
...and other high performance centres, not just state-based ones.
And hopefully soon we'll know if the ASC is going to give any money to women's gymnastics for this next quad. It seems unlikely, though we're hopeful. For the institutes, this could really hit hard. For the private clubs, it will make no difference to what they currently experience.
Peggy Liddick just visited Epping and left a wonderful impression on the girls!
Really - that's great for NSW
I hope that if they do decide to give money and support to Women's Gymnastics that it goes to the places that are doing well and have produced results, and not just the Institutes.
Who has produced significant results in the past 2 years outside of the institutes?
WAVERLEY! thats the plave to be if you are in victoria.
Yes, I'm sure that comment is NOT coming from a Waverley parent! Very transparent?
Mez, it might be a good idea to do a post on the changes that the ASC has brought to Australian sport. There have definitely been massive changes to how sport is now funded, and that is directly impacting many policies across multiple sports. People may have heard of the Crawford Report, but The Winning Edge is still a relatively unknown document, despite being cruicial.
It may help keep some funding questions and 'why do our girls never go overseas/our athletes need more competition experience' questions at bay. There are a few decisions being made in the WAG world currently that won't sit nicely with some. It might even be worth looking into someone guest writing that post (dare I say, GA)?
Nice AnnaKatherineLP...
This is information I would definitely love to know. I mean the Winning Edge document is available online etc. But how is actually affects gymnastics would be a great thing for the public to know on a forum like this!
The topic of ASC and AOC report(s) into high performance, funding and outcomes post-London was brought to my attention last weekend by someone involved with GA.
Let me see what I can do.
In the meantime, I can confirm that few if any international assignments are happening this year prior to worlds. The women's national program are staying home to work as hard as they can to get difficulty and consistency up across the board. We won't see the results overnight, but it is definitely bigger and better than any address of the issue we've ever seen.
IF (and it is a big if) any money is forthcoming, it will be distributed to the institutes and clubs who have had the gymnasts with the highest potential for 2016 identified. Let's hope the "eggs all in one basket" approach might finally be gone!
At what point do the girls get funding to travel overseas? Do they need to have completed IDP 10 to qualify? Or can an IDP 10 get funding? Do most girls self-fund their first trip overseas and represent their clubs in comps?
Yes but who decides who they are? Don't forget that gymnasts automatically have higher potential if they are being coached by coaches with a proven track record.
Mez, ignore any report by the AOC. The funding they provide to GA is minimal compared to the government money and they have little to no influence over the funding decisions made by the ASC. I would be very very surprised if gymnastics features in the funding decisions of the ASC leading in to Rio as they have definitely not proven that the investment will bring a return. It is a catch 22 but unfortunately that is how the government sees it now at the high performance level.
There was a high performance coaches pow wow some weeks back. They've already decided. You can feel indignant about it if you like, but it won't help anything. :-) They're unlikely to get any money anyway.
Will say that John Curtin is steering the boys program in the right direction. Australia has a lot of young guys ready to hit the International spotlight and the guys are very supportive of each other.
It was nice to see the Jnr National Squad train side by side with the senior guys in camp at the AIS. Some great Juniors coming through too.
Any particular junior guys that look promising?
The junior boys look so young in the photo on Gym Aust site!
hhhmmm and some losses too in the junior boys - for a range of reasons but from what I hear not about the boys wanting to stop the sport they love ... financial, coaching etc to blame for them being lost to the sport ... shame :( ... but I think they need to believe they have time ... they are young and a little time away won't hurt - despite what they are being told
It is very difficult to say who looks promising as the majority are U/12 and U/14 but there are some good gymnasts coming through, lets just hope they are developed correctly as there as stated above there has been a few top boys dropping out from all states.
I do like how this was a post on MAG gymnastics and it gets hijacked for WAG...........too funny
Really great work at least every one should know how training are needed to be. It will Gymnastic to grow more.
It is a bit of a worry when we can't come up with a few names of some up and coming young junior men. We could mention numerous young ladies who are coming through. Such as Darcey Norman, Paige James, Rianna Mizzen, Brooke Calcott and Eden Tarvit. The fact that you can't remember any boys names off the top of your head is not a good indication of things to come.
names of boys to watch ... the Bull brothers from Vic, Kent too from Vic, Lachlan and the Wan brothers from Qld ... Minnie Jones, Scott Costin (a product of outside of HPC!!) ... the younger ones too - Brodie H, making a comeback Gabriel O'Sullivan ... Jackson Clarke ... and sadly I can think of at least as many boys that are hopefully just "taking a break" .... we need to find ways to keep them - and keep good coaches!!!!
So who knows which girls from HPC/ clubs around Australia are going to the 2016 eligible camp?
Any word from the WAG FIG course last weekend?
From all accounts the failure rate in other countries has been huge. Do we have any qualified judges?
I am a WAG parent, but i do enjoy watching the men. i did notice a young boy by the name of Robert Crea from the Hpc he looked promising im not sure if he is currently training though, or whether he is eligible for 2016.
are any WAG gymnasts attending any international competitions anytime soon??
@2.35 - Emma Nedov is on the way to Russia in May
Do we know yet if Australia is sending any girls to worlds, if so who is looking good to go?
Emma Nedov is looking to go for beam and floor at least. Her bars is picking up too. Someone has been working her well it seems as she looks good
Georgia Godwin is looking good for all around!
