Delhi TV Spot

If you've not caught it on your telly just yet (though my guess is it's just me who hasn't!), GA have posted Lauren Mitchell's promo spot for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

And if you feel like a late one tonight, Foxtel/Austar is showing the Paris World Cup (Day 2) at midnight Melbourne time on Fox Sports 2.

The list for the NSW elite nationals team is up and Mary-Anne didn't make it. Neither did Ashleigh Kittl, Monica Sloane or Naomi Lee. The only Jnr/Snr athlete is Emma Nedov. Overall their team looks very weak this year.

I seriously don't get why they can't just let all the JNR/SNR girls in automatically, after all, there will never be enough to need more than one session.

I was really hoping to see Mary-Anne this time around :( Now she has no hope for CWG and the slim chance of petitioning onto the worlds training camp squad.

Juniors that have qualified for Nationals are Emma Nedov,
Angela Donald,Georgia Brown, Emma Collister can represent her country but cant Qualify, this is a big joke
GA are you serious that the juniors have to get the same E score as the seniors think about it?
It really makes no sense at all, well Perth will be a very small event this year.

I think that the junior E score should be 31
Senior should be 32, that would be better,

Seriously! It's almost like they want the competition to be totally crap. If I lived in Perth I probably wouldn't bother going.

Making everyone be 100% ready for every event to qualify is stupid.
So what if Milly McGrath has dud bars or if Bridget Beattie can only do her yurchenko piked but not laid out. They both have other awesome things about their gymnastics and they deserve the competition experience after training elite gym for most of their lives. Geez.

Things like this really piss me off. They want these girls to train hard and win medals for Australia but GA need to support them and their aspirations if they expect them to stay in the sport.

Wow GA, in a country where retention is a big problem, you have successfully implemented a surefire way to encourage early retirement-give them no competitive opportunities.

Also, on a side note, looking at IDP 10, there's going to be a grand total of 4-6 athletes. Scary.

I really don't think Peggy would allow Milly Mcgrath to stay home and not compete at Nationals

I think Milly and Svetlana are qualified - Svetlana at 1st trial and Milly at 2nd trial. Tierra and Laura not, Rachel C not. Dunno what's going to happen with Naomi Ashleigh, Britt and Fiona. Britt is probably already qualified from pac Trials though.

Is this for real? How can none of the QLD girls be qualified? In the vids their routines were perfectly acceptable IMO. ANd Ashleigh Kittl? She has one bad event out of 4 so that means she now can't go? How are they going to have a meet with only 5 or 6 juniors?

I am disappointed about Mary-Anne too :(

I am a bit confused though. Last year she went with SMC approval and only did a couple of skills on bars whereas this year she has one of the highest a-scores on that event and reasonable ones on VT and BB yet for some reason she can't go.

How does that work? Did they just make it much stricter this year? Maybe there is more to it than meets the eye.

Or is it possible she plans to qualify at NSW states this weekend and the list on the GNSW site has only those who are already qualified?

is Lauren Mitchell religious?

Qualifying is also hard as coaches don't always give the girls the best start values. Some girls are definitely given an advantage in this area. This sport is very subjective from all aspects. Coaches decide the gymnasts fate. I enjoy watching the sport but I would never put my children into it, as it appears far to hard to get any success. I think Perth is going to be a poor turn out.. I won't bother going if there is only a few gymnasts competing and last year it was expensive to watch!

Naomi Lee just had surgery on her shoulder, so she is out for a while. NSW State is this weekend, the girls can qualify there and at any competition up until 16 June, the list is just who has qualified as of date. There are several injury/special circumstance petitions that have not yet been ruled on, so I think you will not be disappointed. The girls that should be at Nationals will be there. Everybody needs to calm down. Some complain that you want Australia to have high standards and you bash the standards that will provide it. There are 15 years olds that are still missing several, not just one, but several of the compositional requirements. The FIG rules are there, face it, Australia has to comply like everyone else.

I have been told they still have time to qualify

everyone settle down!! the rules are always brocken when it comes to nationals and qulifying scores etc! the girls can qulify at states or even a control test in their own gym. the lists, atm, are not official as there is still a month to nationals. besides im pretty sure gymnastics australia understands how important it is to get athletes out there and competing. as i can recall peggy would always say 'you need experience, no matter what'. even if that did mean competing a few apps or with low start values. and also i have seen some judges mark a gymnast higher in order to qualify them.

o and no lauren is not hugely religious, i suppose most people believe in god wether they attend church, read the bible or not. i think her school was catholic so i guess religion is enforced but its not like she devotes her life to god, she just believes.

Anon 9:22
What would be the problem is she did believe in God... You make it sound as if she would be a freak if she did.
Good on her if she is religious and stands up for what she believes

Svetlana did not qualify at trial 1
Milly did not qualify at trial 2,
The only juniors in victoria to qualify are Georgia and Angela.

I remember last year Peggy allowed some of the IDP8 girls another chance to qualify after Vic's at the Hpc gym, and not all the girls who qualified there had all the skills.

Anonymous said...

Peggy also went to Waverley and qualified some of the juniors last year.

anon 10:16 there would be absolutely nothing wrong if she was religious, infact my brother is hugely religious and i think it is fine. its all about individual preferences, so yeh i would also say god on her! i was just answering someone elses question!

i think amelia has qualified as a beam and floor specialist...
not sure?

I have heard Lauren mention a few times that she's not overly 'talented' or co-ordinated. She must be super, super modest as there's just no way you win silver medals at worlds without some co-ordination. She does that spin thing on one foot that noone else in the world was doing at one point....perhaps compared to Dasha she mightn't be as co-ordinated.....but there's just no way Peggy would have picked her for her elite development squad 7 or 8 years ago if there wasn't some physical talent there - Peggy wouldn't have known how hard she was capable of working etc. in the beginning. It just sounds weird an elite gymnast describing themselves as not co-ordinated!

I remembered watching a story of Lauren and Dasha prior to the olympics and I think Martine George said that Lauren does have natural talent but is not as coordinated as Dasha. Liz C said Dasha was very coordinated and she learns skills very quickly but she can also lose them quickly whereas it takes Lauren a lot longer to learn skills but once she has them she can usually keep them. I think Lauren said something similar to this in an interview after worlds las year. I do agree that Lauren is more talented then she gives herself credut for.

Lauren all I can say YOU ARE A STAR.

I have to say that I am disappointed with the audio in that clip. Lauren should have had 15 minutes of professional voice coaching before recording.

Stop complaining and be thankful that gymnastics has been given the exposure
