Lauren Waylaid

The West Australian has given us an update on Lauren Mitchell.

She is overcoming a shoulder injury, and has stopped training bars to avoid aggravating it.

In PR commitment news, Lauren has been working as a face of the Coles Sports For Schools Program and in the last week has been named a Qantas 2012 Athlete Program ambassador!

Yikes. I hope being ready for Oly trials means ready to compete AA. Otherwise Ash is out of London. And someone else will have to step it up on Bars because Lauren was counting scores in Tokyo and we used her in finals....

They did the Olympic draw today. Aussies start on floor in subdivision 2.

Yay. Beam last! Finally!

But subdivision 2 isn't good! Only brazil and Italy in their subdivision or earlier. Tough to make finals from there.

especially not good for Lauren's EF chances. I feel the team probably does not have the difficulty to make finals this time around.

Doesn't this conversation thread start a few months before every major meet. "Australia won't make final", "Australia doesn't have difficulty", blah, blah, the same neagativity is said all the time. no matter where any potential team members are at this point, they will be in a completly differnt place, skill wise, at the time of the Olympics.

I think the focus should be Lauren having the best chance of getting the three medals she could get
If Australia did qualify, the best we would do is 4th if we made no mistakes and other teams did
Less about the team more about Lauren to be the first ever Aussie to get a medal

I think the evidence does, to some extent, actually support the assertion that difficulty needs to be raised this time. Canada has people doing double doubles and amanars now, for example. Italy has 3 Yurchenko doubles, and several EF worthy beam routines. Japan will have Murakami, their most stacked gymnast.

I guess what the OP is suggesting is that really since the team finals will be an uphill battle there is little point worrying about the draw. Making finals will require a fantastic performance either way. The real damage is to Lauren because making EF is likely to be very tight.

i think australia should give their spot to another country.

No, we qualified fair and square.
If Lauren works herself really hard to make it to the team final like she did at worlds she will be worn out

@3:59 Mate, seriously, do not troll here. People like you are disgusting.

Interesting stuff re the team difficulty aggregates. Didn't realise that this was an issue that individuals ( as part of a team) had to face. A little unfair to Lauren on face value but here's hoping she recovers from her injuries soon.
