Victor: Victoria

Hello.

I am updating this at stupid o'clock.

Unfortunately I'm not able to attend the Victorian State Championships over at JETS this weekend.

Thankfully, some of you are! The Couch Gymnast has a report up, and a few of you have noted in that comments that results are up at Gymdata.

My biggest thanks is reserved for special ops agent Ange for getting video.

Congratulations to the senior and junior AA champions, Ash Brennan and Kiara Munteanu! Full results will be up here.

GV has linked to video of Zoe Lorenzin's cool Baitova warmup here!

Seem G Rose is going hard for the floor upgrades. First pass will become front layout-front double. Second pass double pike, 3rd pass 2.5+jump, last pass double tuck.

Thanks for the vids Ange! Milly McGrath might have had a tough meet, but to me she is still one of the most beautiful gymnasts around. I really hope she perseveres even if she runs out of time this year because she has such potential. Adore her new floor!

I'm following this meet on Gymdata and Kiara Munteanu got 14.700 on bars and 14.100 on beam tonight. She is entered in juniors, but could they be accidentally judging her by IDP10 standards?

Anonymous said...

they must be, from what i saw last night, she was one of the BETTER juniors but NOT that standard.

Anonymous said...

it just occurred to me - where on earth are Eade and Leydin?

Anonymous said...

man....mez monkton tanked tonight! Brennan killed it though, 55.95. Georgia Rose also did very well, 55.300. Looks like Zoe successfully did the DTY for 14.6. Bonora got 13.750 on bars. Angela hit beam...again. She is like a rock there.

The Couch Gymnast said...

Zoe's DTY was pretty good. A little under-rotated, but quite impressive. Monckton did not tank.

Anonymous said...

More information please and where are the videos?

Anonymous said...

Zoe's vault was great and it was soooo good seeing her competing again! Mez did not tank! One fall on beam is not tanking.

I noticed the scores last night, how can the judges get it so wrong there were only a hand full of gymnast on the floor last night. If their getting this wrong how can we have confidence in how they judge the girls.

nikola finished 8th in finals :(

Anonymous said...

Congratulations and well done Ashleigh :-)

Anonymous said...

Is Brit greeley still in the gym these days?

Anonymous said...

she competed at state trials

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:32pm and 9:19am I think you'll find Kiara's scores were corrected before the end of the comp.

Eade was watching. Wouldn't she be qualified to Nationals and not really need to be here? Might be resting.

Britt is not trialling for London.

Congrats kiara and ash!

TEAM BRENNAN 2012!

I am actually thinking that Ash has a really good chance at making the Olympic team.
I think the team could be:
Emily AA
Ashleigh AA
Lauren VT/BB/FX
Larrissa UB/FX
The fifth team member needs to compete VT/UB/BB and needs to be strong on bars. I actually thought Nikki would be a good chance for this spot until the weekend but she should still have a chance. I think Maryanne would be a chance especially if she can upgrade her vault, I thought Georgia B might be chance but her difficulty on bars isn't that high. Based on what she was doing last year Chloe would be a chance but it looks like she still needs a lot of work.

Really looking forward to nationals, we of course we Will have more of an idea of who will be in the team after nationals.

Anonymous said...

Thats true actually regarding Ashleigh. I can see her getting the AA spot!

Georgia bonora... honestly i dont think she'll make it. After Vics she was strong on beam but then again thats prob our easiest area to fill. Bars was clean but no difficulty.

Maryanne if she could get her VT up could also steal an AA spot. but thats a big IF. we really cant go with a yurcekno full. its borderline embarrassing.

Joura has a strong vault and floor will be acceptable, but can she deliver a bar routine? Her bars have always been clean but will she be ready?

ahhhh nationals is going to be huge!

Anonymous said...

I reckon Ash is pretty much a lock at this point. Peggy has obviously told her she needs to get her bars together and she has done that. She is one of our best FX and BB workers and if she can land her Tsuk 1.5, is usable on VT in TF. I think Ash, Lauren, Emily and Larrissa are going to be on the team. I'd like to see Chloe make it...she has had to work through a lot of negativity to come back and it would be nice to see it end on a good note for her.

Anonymous said...

I agree Anon 8:53

Anonymous said...

I also agree. That fifth spot is going to be hard to pick. I would like to see Nikki get it if she is consistant and we wouldn't need her on floor (her weakest). I'd love to see Dasha on the team but without beam that means Miller would have to do beam which wouldn't work. MAM has as strong a case as Nikki IMO - she doesn't have as strong a vault but she is as good on the others and more experienced. Nikki is very reliable injury wise which might be important on a 5 person team with Lauren managing an injury. Lauren hasn't competed her DTY for a while so who knows if she will be competing it at nationals? MAM would make an excellent reserve as she can fill any apparatus if required. Roll on nationals!

Still waiting for day 2's results to be posted! :-)

Alex has had a sore elbow all year I believe... makes sense to rest it and do whatever is needed to get it right.

Anonymous said...

Could Zoe be in with a chance for the 5th spot after the weekend? Her vaults are reported to be really strong. How is UB/BB for her?

Anonymous said...

hmmm based on vics i really doubt it. she was too inconsistent and bars... i'd rather have ash with her slightly lower VT.

Anonymous said...

Zoe was competing on a sore ankle at Vic's

Anonymous said...

Considering zoe's history of injuries I would think she's probably competing on a sore everything:)

Anonymous said...

She is too unreliable with injuries (although these are of course not her fault, simply bad luck) and has almost no huge comp experience. I think she'll be lucky to get ab alternate spot.

Got my bill for Nationals $1200 not including uniforms and air fares!!! WTH does GA think they are doing to parents $50 a day for lunch and dinner, breakfast extra!! This is insane!!!!

Anonymous said...

What state are you Anon 6.44 , I am volunteering at Nationals, so travelling independant but its costing me $650 for accom alone and flights were $235

Anonymous said...

Does anyone ever feel that there is a lack of transparency when results aren't published after an event? Day 1 results appeared quickly but even with a couple of days off in lieu, Gymnastics Victoria still haven't managed to put up scores from Day 2.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the fact they had 2 seperate comps that weekend to manage that could be a factor

Anonymous said...

To Anon' May 2, 2012 11:44 PM

A very valid question if they are charging $50 a day for lunch and dinner only.

Although that cost is outrageous, perhaps the figure has come about because they need to compensate and cover for the expense of sending team coaches, judges, team managers, physios and chaperones to care for the gymnasts and the bottom line could be that these staff members may not be charged themselves or are having their expenses subsidized by the gymnasts?

Anonymous said...

the $50 isnt to cover officials. Its $50 per person not just per gymnast.

Anonymous said...

lets hope they serve filet mignon and top it off with forays from adriano zumbo -___-

Anonymous said...

The $50 per day was originally going to be $60 per day.
With this cost and the high price of the allocated hotels, many people are not going and those that are, have shortened their stay.

And this is only the first of the Sydney Nationals!

Anonymous said...

I saw the prices of olympic park accom and decided to stay in strathfield

Anonymous said...

The $50 a day is only lunch and dinner - include $9 for breakfast back to just shy of the original $60.
State coaches and personal coaches are also being charged. Judges will only be given a "free" meal if they judge over two sessions. Although nationals is being held in "Sydney" it is being run and priced by GA. Fillet steak??? I expect lobster and champagne.

Anonymous said...

People in other countries see going to their nationals as the highest honour they would pay all the money they have for the chance to show what they can do on the national stage...... In Australia people whinge and whinge over the cost. Why Australia will never be successful at the Olympics - the sport just isn't taken seriously enough.

by the same token though, GA don't really create an event that is nationals worthy, or at least they haven't the years it has been in Perth. No podium, very poor attendance, no possibility for parents to purchase event footage, no extension of the event by providing a stream or even youtube clips. If you're paying a lot for your kid to have a nationals experience, I would think the opportunity to compete on a podium should at least be a guarantee.

Anonymous said...

re Nationals cost: NSW has been able to come up with gymnasts packages covering accommodation, food and ground transport which are $400-$500 cheaper than those quoted by other states by choosing accommodation away from Olympic Park and by making their own catering arrangements.

Anonymous said...

But who wants the hassle of that!

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of whingers!

Anonymous said...

Day 2 is up on the gv website!

Anonymous said...

No podium at Nationals?? Are you serious?? What a freakin' joke gymnastics is in this country!

Anonymous said...

Are we talking podium training ?

Anonymous said...

no podium for national stream, only elite

Anonymous said...

they didn't have one for elite either the last three years...

Anonymous said...

i heard at nationals the medals given are made out of cardboard and the winner got given some flowers picked from the garden of one of the judges.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:54 - bet you are not a parent paing ridiculous cost!!
Anon 5:52 I also heard SOME NSW gymsports told GA to stick it and did thier own things!! Good for NSW!! Wish my state had the balls to stand up to GA and say sorry we like the idea of what you want to achieve but the price is outrageous!

Anon 6:08 agree it is a honor to represent your state - also agree do a poor job in making it an AMAZING event affordable event / they would get more spectators at National levels if they charged less, my kids grandparents can't go to watch as the entry was out of thier price bracket and nationals was I thier home town.

Anonymous said...

Wow wow a few typos please excuse
*in thier
* agree GA
*paying

Does anyone know what vault in the yuchenko family would give you a D score of 8.00 ? What bonus would a yuchenko layout be worth ?

Anonymous said...

I dont know what cardboard medals you've been seeing but just went back and looked at pics and they are pretty metal looking to me :)

short_girl88 said...

Anon 2:14 if you're looking at IDP 8 rules day to is double fig value so they did a yuro pike.

Anonymous said...

What is a yuro pike and double fig rules??

Anonymous said...

@ May 5, 2012 5:52 PM

Yuro Pike is a Piked Yurchenko vault

Double FIG rules means that the FIG value of a piked yurchenko is 4.0.

Day two rules for IDP8 are that you double the FIG value meaning an IDP 8 gymnast who performs a piked yurchenko gets a D score of 8.0

Anonymous said...

I thought in Idp 8 you could only do a yuchenko sault , pike , layout and layout twist ! Can you please explain what a yuro Pike is and the Fig values for each of the above ?

Anonymous said...

May 5, 2012 6:49 PM

Yurchenko piked, piked yurchenko....same thing

Values for Yurchenkos are as follows:
tuck - 3.8
pike- 4.0
layout - 4.4
layout full - 5.0

Anonymous said...

Thanks so in laymans terms am I right in saying the Yurchenko pike on day one of comp in idp8 is worth a D score of 6.00 and on the second day The same vault is worth 8.00 D score?? Seems strange why do u double the D score on the second day for the same vault?

Anonymous said...

Its double to even out things AA on day 2. Since an awesome girl on beam can get a score of like 16 or 17 the vault values are double to pull the 'good vault scores' in line with the rest.
Eg: on day 1 a good vaulter might get 15.00 which is much lower than the 16 or 17 the other apparatus can get.

(sorry hope that makes sense. its a little hard to explain)

Anonymous said...

Thanks I think I understand now ! Although last year in 2011 this rule didn't seem to apply to the results is this a new rule ?

Anonymous said...

new rule in 2012

Thanks anon 9.20pm!!!
