Why does Peggy show clear bias against Georgia Godwin. This is certainly not the first time she has left Georgia Godwin off a team that she has clearly earnt a spot. Is it because she has a great deal of dislike for Georgia's old coaches, the coaches that she trained with for most of her career (Olga and Sasha). Peggy needs a please explain on this one. Hasn't Peggy learnt from her poor Olympic Games selction. For once in your life Peggy stop hanging onto the older gymnasts and get some new blood in. Just because Olivia Vivian has a friendly personality doesn't make her Commonwealth Games material. For goodness sake the only thing she is great at is bars and that is only on the odd occasion that she actually makes her routine. Get rid of Olivia Vivian and put in the all round winner and Nadia Cominici AA winner Georgia Godwin.

Completely agree with anon 11:44PM.

I agree! I am really a bit confused. I think all the girls will make a valuable contribution to the Comm Game team , but why is a good all rounder like Georgia Godwin left off the team . It is really bizarre what does she have to do to make it on the team. She outperformed her fellow competitors and still somehow she is left off the team. Is Gymnastics really about where you train surely if your the best you should make it regardless of who your coaches are and what your name is. Is it really just a political game very disappointing.

Anonymous said...

I really feel for Georgia, she showed that she is fantastic and still was left out. I do love Olivia but Larrissa Miller is stronger on the same apparatus' ! One AA is a bad idea... what do the younger seniors have to do to prove that they can compete?
We will be lucky to get bronze.

Anonymous said...

I also agree that winning the All Around title should have guaranteed Georgia Godwin a place on the Commonwealth Games Team. However, I must point out that Olivia Vivian is not only a bars specialist. She won bronze on floor yesterday, and she also made the beam finals. That said, I thought she would be named reserve and Godwin would be chosen to compete (especially after winning the A.A at the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational). Has Peggy revealed her reasons for Godwin being overlooked?

Anonymous said...

I just had a look at the scores again, she definitely deserved to be on the team

Anonymous said...

I would imagine Peggy is gong for medals. She's left off 1st, 2nd & 3rd AA from nationals. This is probably because those AA scores won't beat the English girls. On the other hand using all of those specialists place us in a good position for finals Eg.
-Larissa and Olivia on bars
-Lauren and Maryanne on beam. Maybe Georgia R-B too.
-Larissa and Lauren on floor. Maybe Georgia R-B too.
As usual, vault is a bit of a right off.

I would imagine in the team competition Georgia R-B will be the lead off on most apparatus with the speacialists after her. If the girls hit we should do well in the team competition.

I predict Peggy will use the AAs for worlds.

Peggy is taking a bit of a risk given how consistent

I try not to be overly critical of the decisions made by Peggy and Gymnastics Australia as I'm sure there are many factors that go into selecting a team that aren't always apparent to those looking in from the outside. Having said that I just can't comprehend the omission of Georgia Godwin from the team. I was thinking that maybe it was to give Georgia time to heal for worlds but the fact that GBR was selected despite currently being injured doesn't support that. Who leaves the current national champion of their squad? In what world does Olivia's UB trump the contributions that Georgia can make on the other events. This is just like the Olympics all over again when they selected a team of veterans for their experience and they completely failed to deliver. Commonwealth Games has traditionally been a comp where the new crop of girls are given a chance to cut their teeth on a somewhat big stage so that they're not deer in the headlights at worlds. Instead Commonwealth Games this year and the Olympics in 2012 seem to be a farewell tour comps intended to reward those who have decided to hang around. I know persistence pays off but this is ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

What does it take to be selected in an Australian Gymnastics side? Well you certainly do not need to be the Australian All Around Champion - Georgia Godwin found this out to her dismay.

Anonymous said...

Firstly, I have no doubt that all the girls selected for the team have worked very very hard and have amazing talent. But let's just look at some numbers over the recent comp. Monkton got gold for the beam - well done and well deserved. But where was she on all the other events? One may argue that the beam is her specialty event - her highest score was 14.65 on day 1. Godwin scored 14.70 during the AAs which is 0.5 higher is it not? Rose - Brown bowed out with injury so I guess we will never know. Did anybody remember that Godwin had only returned to full training within days of this event and performed so well. What can she achieve after weeks of full training that would happen before Comm Games Vivian placed 2nd, 3rd and 6th on her three apparatus. Godwin 2nd, 3rd, 6th on three of the four apparatus....oh and also AA champion. Were the Nationals selection trials for the games or not? There are many levels of tragedy here: obviously for Godwin there is the question of what more does she have to do to be noticed? But the real tragedy is for Australian sport where in this case the best may have been forgone for reasons that only the National coach will know.

Anonymous said...

There could be other factors we are unaware of - I remember when everyone couldn't understand why Emma Dennis was left off the Olympic team, but it turned out she was injured.

Maryanne I guess has proved herself on beam a few times. Georgia has recently proved herself in the AA, but those scores won't be high enough against the English girls. Maryanne does have the routine to medal on the beam final. Despite good scores at nationals the confidence in Georgia hitting beam and scoring as highly as Maryanne (for example) isn't there. Yes its unfair given that Georgia is younger and hasn't ahd the same time to gain experience....perhps the team is a bit of a sentimental one?? Olivia, MA and Georgia being included in particular after missing out on the Olympics. I was a bit surprised Olivia was included, but once again she has the potential to win gold on bars final.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with you about Olivia having the chance to win bars. Look at her routine and compare it to Larissa, then compare it again to Becky Downie. Who knows if Beckie will be selected for CWG but the difference between Beckie/Larissa and Olivia is huge. I'm a fan of Olivia, but I don't believe she should've been selected for this team.

Anonymous said...

I think its time for a new coach as Peggy seems to do what's best for her and not the country. Bad team selection cost Australia a place in the finals at the Olympics and CWG is going to be the same. No depth for the team or AA and definitely no room for an injury.
I agree with the comments around Peggy not liking Georgia Godwin's ex coaches, but they have obviously got some talent to produce the AA Champion and a past Commonwealth AA Champion in Chloe Sims but Peggy destroyed her too with non selection.
Time to go Peggy.

Anonymous said...

I have to say I was absolutely gobsmacked when our national champion was left off the team. What other sport would leave off their national champ (and second place AAer) from the team? I really hope Georgia G has a good support network around her & that her non-selection doesn't destroy her passion for the sport. I also hope Peggy handled the announcement sensitively & explained to Georgia why she didn't get selected.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe that Georgia didn't get a look in, even as a reserve. What does a girl have to do to be selected? Is it all about living in Victoria and WA? And I ask that as a serious question. Is there ANY point in any QLD or NSW gymnast even trying? It seems they are just not even looked at.

I find it amazing that there is no looking towards the future in this Commonwealth Games team. These are all veterans. Where are the up and coming girls going to get that veteran status if they are never allowed to go anywhere? If they have selected simply on the basis that these ladies are more likely to medal, I'm not sure that's even true. Sure, they're good when they hit, but they don't always hit - as with any gymnast. And as that is the case, why not send some younger seniors and give them a chance?

My next question is also about the future. When we don't win that gold medal at the 2016 Olympics which the ASC(?) requires of women's artistic gymnastics in order for their funding to continue, what is going to happen to the institutes? Will it be that their programs collapse and only the privately funded ones such as Waverley continue? Will there be state government funding for those programs? Are we headed into even more of an abyss than we are currently in?

What have Canada and GB done in recent years for their programs to advance so heartily? Obviously GB would have had a huge funding increase due to the Olympics, but what about Canada? What are they doing that is working so well? Why is Australia not doing this also? The further things go along, the more we are being left behind.

Feeling very down this morning, and wondering why I am bothering to take my daughter to gymnastics all the time. Thank goodness she loves it, and that is an excellent reason to keep doing it. However, not living in VIC or WA, I wonder if there is any chance of her ever making her long-held goal.

Anonymous said...

I think Godwin is a very strong and beautiful gymnast, and I look forward to seeing her compete for Australia in the future. However although taking the AA title at nationals, would not have beaten GRB had she been competing. Her AA performance was good but her consistency in event finals, notably bar and beam was not consistent enough to guarantee her hitting. All around was not the focus of the team because their is stronger potential for medals in the event specialists.

Also I think you will find that MAM is actually competing on bar as well as beam and vault.

The selection is based on a lot more than simply nationals but consistency throughout the year, ability to be consistent and potential to win medals. Behind the scenes there is a lot more that goes into than simply what we see at nationals. I think instead of being critical of the team chosen, we should all be really excited. The team chosen has lot of potential if they hit. I am excited to see how they go up against the likes of England and Canada and hope that we can continue to develop our skills and become more and more world competitive in the future. (:

Anonymous said...

I disagree with the above comment. Godwin has been back at training for two weeks prior to the competition. It is absolutley no secret that Godwin could beat Gorgia Rose Brown hands down when she is not injured. The chancs of Godwin being in fantastic form in the next 6-8 weeks is extremely high and as we know when Godwin is at her best she could outscore most of her competitors. The biggest waste of a team spot however is not the inclusion of Georgia Rose Brown (as she is an absolutely beautiful gymnast), but the inclusion of Vivian. Her consistency is lacking, and although she behaves like a star gymnast, she certainly does not perform like one. I though her beam finals routine at Nationals was poor and very shaky.

Clearly this team was decided prior to nationals. How can you take a girl who scores in the 12's on beam and floor during qualifying and AA and manages to look good on paper in EF because she pulls out some low 13's when most of the field falters. You could say her bars helps the team but she only had .2 over Leydin and Munteanu during EF.

I thought it was hilarious. It is a joke and should be taken as such.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Olivia and anyone associated with her would not find it funny. Olivia is a great role model for young gymnasts, and she deserves better treatment than that.

Anonymous said...

I reckon Olivia would have heard much worse in the USA college system!

Anonymous said...

She is not international quality. Her personality may be great but her gymnastics is not. Just my opinion and the statistics happen to back me up. The rest of the time looks great though.

Anonymous said...

The rest of the team looks great that was meant to say.

Anonymous said...

We all know tha Peggy generally selects from two States despite how good the quality of gymnastics is in the other states. Victoria and WA. My guess is that considering she resides in Vic, she would get to know the girls a little better and the selections then become a little personal. Unfair but human nature.

Anonymous said...

Thank you to the blog administrator (Mez?) for removing those offensive comments.

I feel really sorry for Georgia Godwin, but making insulting "jokes" about Peggy & Olivia is crossing the line.

As for claiming that Olivia is not international quality, let's remember that she recently won bronze on bars in Doha (with an injured hand).

Anonymous said...

Ooops- I should have written Korea, not Doha. Anyway, that was an amazing achievement by Olivia, and demonstrates what a great fighter she is.

Anonymous said...

Yes... it was such a tough field of C rate gymnasts in Korea. It may be the 'world cup', but it was not a competitive field.

Anonymous said...

I love that you are supporting your twam mates Mez but really, what quality gymnasts was Olivia competing against in Korea. Very few. It was certainly not me however saying anything negative about Peggy. I do question however why she chose personality over performance.

Anonymous said...

Oh i just read 1.03pm after I wrote that comment. So yes I concur with 1.03pm. (perhaps not the sarcasm of the comment) but the fact that there were no real Top performers amongst the field.

Anonymous said...

Kind of agree with what is being said but excited for the team. Yay to maryanne and georgia for finally getting selected to a major team. Hope training goes well and if we hit hey we can win some major medals. World's to this year so opportunity for others. Good luck all.

Anonymous said...

If Georgia from Qld can just upgrade slightly and the 2 talents from Vic, I think it's kiara and Madeline, can free injuries and become more consistent they will get there, they are all major 2016 players. And world's contenders for later this year. Btw, thought you all looked great at nationals, can't wait for what's next. Good luck to comm team.

Anonymous said...

Slightly worried about vault for team score at cwg, what do we potentially have with current team?

Anonymous said...

Anon 9.40pm
What vault score????
The Australian's will not get a team result on vault with the line up selected.
I think that is Peggy's plan.

Anonymous said...

Our vaulting (or lack thereof) is a dead-set joke. There is no excuse for only performing simple FTYs.

Anonymous said...

I think the next camp needs to have a guest coach that can teach all of the girls how to do a DTY. Work on drills, work on bravery, just get them happening!

Anonymous said...

I agree - our vaulting is woeful to the point of embarrassing. England & Canada are going to absolutely smash us in the vaulting department. Can someone please list each of the vaults next to the respective CG gymnasts?

Anonymous said...

The thing about vaulting is that I don't think it is realistic just to teach the girls DTYs at the next camp. They have to start preparing the younger girls now, to be ready for these vaults.

Our coaches often complain about the uselessness of the IDP vaulting progression. Something needs to be done from early on in IDP. It needs to start from the bottom up, just as much as we'd like the older girls to suddenly be able to do these vaults (somewhat unrealistically?).

Anonymous said...

Peggy has asked the state training centre coaches for double twisting ykurchenkos, do you think she hasn't? Time to ask the program coaches why they are presenting such low difficulty vaults to the national team...Peggy does not work with them everyday, her job is to prepare the team for major competitions. Don't blame her for the lack of effort and motivation from the state centre and club coaches. godwin had a chance to self select, she did not perform a double twist vault, she has one. so that leaves it wide open for the selectors (not Peggy alone) to choose the best medal chances, there are no guarantees, but you have to go with the rankings.

Anonymous said...

Okay obviously considering Godwin could only train on her foot two weeks before the comp that may have something to do with the fact that she didn't have two good vaults ready. Peggy was well aware of her injury and her likelyhood of being able to do two vaults by Commonwealth. Next try at a reason about why Peggy has failed to put on the highest possible scoring AA in Australia.

Anonymous said...

Actually, Peggy is somewhat to blame for our woeful vaulting skills. She is national coach, so the buck stops with her. If we don't have the coaching staff available to teach more difficult skills, then it's up to her to use her power as head coach and find some that can. Clearly she doesn't see it as a priority. It's incredibly frustrating because we have the girls with the talent to perform much more difficulty, but sadly their potential is not being realised. And as a country, we are being left further and further behind in competitive gymnastics.

Anonymous said...

Yes perhaps more difficult vaults in lower idp program would help. Perhaps the good vaulters are getting lost, it's easier to do well in lower levels when you have pretty gymnastics, some power kids are messy, maybe lose motivation and quit thinking they aren't that good but really some of these kids would be good seniors? Just a thought..

Anonymous said...

I believe that Australia's last stand out vault specialist was Trudy McIntosh, who narrowly missed vault finals at the Sydney Olympics. That was in the year 2000!

It's such a shame we seem to neglect an apparatus that can be so spectacular to watch. World Vault Champion Kayla Maroney's vaults are absolutely breath- taking. I agree that our lack of strong vault competitors could really cost us at Commonwealth Games.

On a brighter note, I think Larrissa Miller will shine on bars & floor, and Lauren Mitchell will be a star on floor & beam in Glasgow. Best of luck to all the team.

Anonymous said...

Yes Mckayla is spectacular on vault. USA has more amanars than we have people on our senior team!

Anonymous said...

Well there may be another Trudy McIntosh out there... but we will never know as our next young Trudy will be forced onward with the Yurchenko even though she shows promise with her forward vaulting because we all must follow the national direction.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if there is selection criteria for selecting teams? If so, what is it in the case of the comm. games team? Surely, there must be some guidelines or justifications that need to be given to gymnastics australis atleast? Has anyone seen a press release on the team selected?

Anonymous said...

Selection criteria is on the GA website under technical information

Anonymous said...

selection criteria is not the answer required...

Anonymous said...

The selection criteria were quite specific for automatic qualification. The qualifying AA score was 58 with a difficulty score of 22. Otherwise athletes were to be chosen on the basis of their likelihood to win medals.

Peggy's recent interview with IG is quite telling. This is the last paragraph:

"I am mindful of the world championships in October, as well," Liddick told IG. "So I will be considering the correct strategy for injured athletes staying home from the Commonwealth Games and preparing for Worlds in some cases. I have been given directives from my superiors that the team must be named directly after the finals on Sunday (May 25) at the competition. Team, medal chances and health, such as ability to train, will be the main criteria, while their latest competition results will be fresh in my mind."

Anonymous said...

hilarious! no answers there! Did MAM get 58, no, injured, yes, medal possibility, maybe....many others are in the same position...

Anonymous said...

I guess the point I was trying to make was that winning the AA was no guarantee of automatic selection if the score of 58 wasn't met.

If no-one made the automatic qualifying score than priority would be given to those with a chance of medalling

In terms of medal chances when comparing MAM,Vivian and Godwin, I think the fact that Godwin fell in UB and BB finals did her no favours.

And in Peggy's interview she pointed out that she didn't want to pick the team so early, but since she had to she was perfectly willing to leave injured athletes at home so they can prepare for worlds.

Anonymous said...

Interesting given that Rose-Brown didn't even complete the most recent comp due to injury but still somehow was selected?

Anonymous said...

Politics politics politics! It wouldn't be gymnastics without it! As much as I don't particularly enjoy Georgia godwin's gymnastics, I do feel she has been completely ripped off on this occasion. She's our national champ for goodness sake & regardless of the reasons for her being national champ (ie this one & that one didn't compete coz of injury or whatever) she earned the title fair & square & should have been the first gymnast picked for the team. I don't know of any other sport (or any other years in gymnastics) where the national champ has not been selected. Shame on GA & shame on Peggy!!!

Anonymous said...

Ellie Black just won the Canadian national championships. Somehow I doubt she (or any other country's national champion for that matter!) will be left off their Comm Games team. Meanwhile, here in Australia...

Anonymous said...

Yep so true Anonymous @ 9:51am

Anonymous said...

I see Ellie Black scored over 58.

Looking at the scores in Canada Godwin would have come in fifth. When you consider what the British girls are capable of surely it makes more sense for Australia to try and maximise their individual apparatus medals.

Anonymous said...

If Canada and England weren't so strong then Godwin probably would have been selected...but her AA scores and don't hold up.

Anonymous said...

Neither does Vivian's or Rose Browns or Moctons, be fair

Anonymous said...

...but I am not talking about them going for AA medals. MAM does definitely have a chance for a medal on beam, Olivia on bars (although not as strong as I would have thought - I think she was included also for ok routines on beam and floor...)but ultimately a chance to medal on bars. Georgia-Rose brown I would also say has a good change to medal in apparatus finals - better than Georgia Godwin. Unless the Candadians and English make mistakes in the AA I can't see any of the aussies medalling AA. But I can see some of those girls winning finals medals if everyone hits.

Anonymous said...

Only one with a chance maybe is Mitchell, and Sorry Vivians floor and beam are average at best, she's no hope neither is the rest I'm afraid. Should be a good giggle to watch tho

Anonymous said...

Ohhh don't say it is a laugh. I do agree that olivias floor and beam are not great and I hope they do not have to count in the team score that's for sure. Shes actually the one im rathe surprised is on the team. MAM I can understand a bit more as I think she does have a chance on beam finals....but given that Larissa outscored Olivia on bars she is filling that bars spot... I do agree that Georgia, Madeleine or Kiarra would have been just as valuable if not more that Olivia certainly on beam and floor and just about bars eg. Kiarra hit routine on bars....but she did miss in the AA. I reckon part of it is that Peggy has gone for experience even though this strategy didn't really work in the Olympics shes giving it another shot. Or perhaps even worlds are her priority more so than Commonwealths but she can't exactly say this publically....but why doesn't Peggy just give a statement about why she selected certain girls??

Anonymous said...

Mean while I wondering how England and Canada surpassed us, major program problems in Australia??? Last few comm games we had it all over them in almost everyway. Tables have turned and I can't even say I'm excited about our juniors or even our 8's. Long road back. Larissa looks lovely but.

Anonymous said...

So if the juniors and 8s aren't "exciting", invest, invest, invest in the 6s! Short term thinking isn't going to help. Long term might. But do we have a visionary at GA that realises this and will do something about it?

Anonymous said...

'investing' is at the heart of the current situation. Peggy is between a rock and a hard place, given the requirements of the winning edge strategy of the Sports Commission. Ongoing funding for gymnastics is contingent upon Australia earning several(10 ?) medals at the commonwealth games. UK's current form is a result of about 70 million pounds invested in gymnastics leading up to the London Olympic games. Also, current lack of gymnasts at idp 10 and 8 is in some way due to other winning edge strategy of limiting 'investment' (focus not just monetary) to 12 gymnasts nominated about 18 month ago, as being the main Rio chances from the Year 2000 age group.

Anonymous said...

I disagree. If you have a close look at all of the girls from Nationals, there is a couple Juniors, one IDP 10, and a couple of 8's that look quite impressive. Yes numbers are not high but there are definitely some talented little girls out there.

Anonymous said...

Performance at Nationals in 2014 may not be a predictor of performance in 2020 for the IDP 6's, 8's and 10's. There's a lot of years between now and then.

Anonymous said...

That's definitely the problem with limiting your focus and fast tracking of skill development to only the select few gymnasts chosen some 4 years before the Olympics. It feels like another example of placing all our eggs in one basket. We are relying on the added pressure of fast up-skilling not resulting in either burn out or injury concerns. I agree there are some very talented gymnasts in all the levels - lets hope the strategy works and that Australia has a full complement of talented girls from which to choose a competitive team for the Olympics - and that the current selections for CGames can achieve the goals set by the sports commission.

Anonymous said...

No one said it was a predictor. The point made was that there are no good ones coming up which is complete rubbish. What would you like them doing, triple backs at 12. Some of those girls had signs of being wonderful gymnasts and some skills were outstanding. So 4.18, please stop being so negative. Do you think that when Jordon Weiber was 12 and doing great tricks that they were saying "Her performance at this competition is not a prdictor for performance at the Olympics". of course not! They would have said she is such a talent.

Anonymous said...

Jordan Weiber was doing way more skills with far higher difficulty at 12 than what any of our 12 year olds are doing (and probably what most of our seniors are doing now too). Go have a look at the American juniors. They already have incredibly high difficulty!!!

Anonymous said...

I think you need to look more closely at our younger kids and their difficulty. Maybe if you are generalising yes, but there are a few with equal difficulty. You need to attend junior camps if you want to see what they are doing. Being apart of the June camp, there was 10 and 11 year olds doing triple twist, double pikes and double tucks on floor and on Beam - numerous difficult elements such as front aerials, side aerials, flick layouts, flick layout layouts, frontsaults etc. Bars - learning releases, toe on's stalders etc. In fact there are no skills that the juniors in America are doing, that our 10-12 year olds haven't already got or are working. Vault is the only apparatus that is lacking, but they are still competing yurchenko lay and are training full. by the time they are seniors they should have upgraded their vaults though. So 10.18, I think your facts are incorrect. Perhaps you don't get to see how talented our young ones are but they are out there.

Anonymous said...

And there it is again - our vaulting being the number 1 problem. When is this going to change???

What is happening at Epping YMCA? Is it true the whole IDP program is being shut down?

Anonymous said...

piss off

Anonymous said...

No, it is not true that the IDP program is being shut down. Stop spreading rumours.

Anonymous said...

Shame you can't see who the posts are coming from. Its not very nice to spread untruthful gossip.

Anonymous said...

It's happening, call the YMCA if you don't believe it

Anonymous said...

Any videos from the Idp 8's and 10's who competed at Nationals?

Anonymous said...

Videoing was not allowed at the competition and there were signs and announcements about this. Parents took videos of their children on the sly and no one said anything to them but it definitely was against the policy of the venue and GA to do so. This was the first competition we've been to where there was this policy.

Anonymous said...

Nobody told us that. Parents probably weren't doing it on the sly. I filmed and I had no idea that I wasn't allowed to. If they announced it I certainly didn't hear it. What a ridiculous rule. We pay thousands of dollars in gym fees and now they are telling us that we can't film our own child.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't aware either. Nothing was announced and I went to the four sessions and filmed my child out in the open. I also ordered the DVD.

Anonymous said...

Just for accuracy's sake, her name is Georgia-Rose Brown. Not Georgia Rose-Brown.
Continue.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of GRB, I saw her (and MAM) in Prahran the other day. I knew she was tall, but didn't realise how *tall* she actually was until I saw her face to face. Makes what she does all the more impressive!

Anonymous said...

The Epping program is moving to Rooty Hill. Gymnasts who don't want to move have already started trying out at other clubs.

Anonymous said...

Well I guess pervious posts were not spreading rumours or untruthful gossip! Why is it closing/moving? The standard has dropped significantly over the past 18 months is this the reason ?

Anonymous said...

They have choice, Chinese woman coach Jen staying at Epping, Rooty hill a long way to travel.

Anonymous said...

it was gossip until last week you tool.

Anonymous said...

standards dropping??? emma silver at nationals, two girls in top 8 for idp6. not many girls like victoria who send so many to nationals but quality in what they send. what a silly litle bitch you are.

Anonymous said...

standards dropping... someone trying to pinch gymnasts again? lol

Anonymous said...

Sounds more like the Head Coach is moving to Rooty Hill RSL and taking selected gymnasts with him than the whole IDP program closing at Epping YMCA - if Zhen is staying at Epping? Or is NSWIS finally supporting an official GYM NSW WG High performance Centre ?!

Anonymous said...

It's bc of management and the costs of running a high performance program, not because of standards or results

Anonymous said...

Is GNSW going to use the rooty hill gym as a hpc now? Any funding from NSWIS for the wag programme?

Anonymous said...

stop talking to yourself

Anonymous said...

to anon 7:33 it is a bit presumptuous to assume that only one person is interested in whether NSW will finally be getting a State HPC for WG - matching those states which have proven track records of gymnast selections onto Australian Teams - instead of leaving HP training purely in the hands of clubs with xenophobic tendencies.

Anonymous said...

From a different interested party I see no announcement about a WAG HPC on NSWGYM so I assume somebody is on their own agenda and leaving Epping YMCA high and dry!

Anonymous said...

Epping are relieved quite frankly. Do you really expect NSW Gymnastics to be proactive??

Anonymous said...

What is this own agenda business? Isnt it the best interest of IDP in NSW to have a club wanting to pour money into the program? Or are we just spreading more gossip and rumours trying to take down coaches and girls who are busting their guts to do well in elite gymnastics.

Yes its great that a club is still willing to pour money into HP program, but BEST interests for idp in NSW I'm not so sure. The gymnasts and their families are the ones that suffer when, the clubs make sudden decisions to close part or all of idp program. Examples - Northern Beaches, Bunnerong, castle Hill - and Westfields (gone from state education funded to business), or if a club has a change in head coach every few years - which often results in the gymnasts being 'taken back to basics' and relearn skills how the new coach says they should be done. But maybe these things happen also in the HP Centres Vic, QLD and WA?

hope the Senior/Junior camp going well in Canberra - nice to have a commentary from Olivia - keep up the great work!

Team Future Advance Camp is also underway in Canberra with around 16 gymnasts from the 2020 cycle.

Hope they're learning some vault upgrades.

Funding is a problem in all states unless they have a generous state funding agreement. NSW has not had a great deal of help from their organisation. QLD is in trouble as well. Does anyone else know how the funding system works interstate?

A big Congratulations to ex gymnast Tierra Exum on your brothers no 5 pick for Utah Jazz.

what a shame that Hpc put all their eggs in one basket and concentrated on girls that were clearly going nowhere, with no results. The gymnastics world have missed out on a great gymnast and on so much publicity riding off him, especially if Tierra was chosen for commonwealth games this year.

you got it wrong again HPC open your eyes and take your blinkers off.

Geez. Way to dampen a compliment, sir/madam.

Oh, and NSW club chatter group? June 5-19? Do me a MASSIVE favour and take it over to the message board where people can view your dribble IF THEY WANT TO and you can all follow the convo with greater ease. You can be anon there too, you know, what with kooky usernames and everything. It's not difficult. Look, I just started you a thread.

Please don't start up "So what's the deal with...?" club stuff here, I have made this abundantly clear numerous times.

Yes, I'm still here, yes I still see every comment that comes in, yes I still have content planned about Glasgow and beyond to go up. And yes, if the conversation is bothersome or irrelevant I will ask you to move along. Or I'm gonna get delete-button happy.
