Yes it's true! I watched the show on Sunday and they finished with details of what's on the show next week and they definitely said they had a feature on Lauren Mitchell - wahoo!!! :-)
I saw that too! Cant wait!
Thanks dudes!I knew I could rely on you to confirm!:)
I can not believe that nothing was written about WA National levels. They seemed to really step it up this year passing NSW and Victoria in Level 7...not to mention the Gold Medals on beam in Level 7,8,9 and also a Gold Medal on Floor in Level 7 and 10 and Silver Medal in the All-Around at Level 7 and 10...This is a big step for WA
What time and day is WWoS on?I can't miss it!brinds
WWOS is on Channel 9 this Sunday July 24th from 10am - 11am.
National levels are never mentioned on this blog. I think it's a real shame though, some of those girls are really great. The WA girls did really well this year! There were so many fantastic results across the board, from all states... yet the girls are never acknowledged here.
I strongly disagree that nothing is written about national levels here. Have a look at last year. I haven't gone back but I remember that plenty was written, mostly about the eastern states though. I don't think many WA people post here, except brinds of course.Do you perhaps mean nothing mentioned in the media? Or did you mean here?WA are definitely building in the national levels, hopefully only a few years away from fielding teams in every level.
Anon at 9.41 you are right there was a little bit done here and there on the national girls but not recently. I don't remember a lot being done last year.Anon at 9.14, I agree with you, I'd like to see more mention of the Nationals stream girls.
Anon at 9.41 i was talking about here, I can't realistically expect more media coverage of National girls when there already isn't enough coverage of international girls! Now you mention it though I do remember a little mention of national stream last year...I still think they deserve a little more though.
Lauren's feature will either air this Sunday or next, depending on whether Cadel Evans wins the Tour.Coinciding with one year to go to London...
Does anyone know if they have selected the juniors to compete at the junior Commonwealth games yet?
They have, yes. Not sure if all have been notified yet, though.
yes they did. this is not correct selection it all Peggy play here games
I just saw the selections for the Junior Comm games. I don't understand how can they not select the national junior champion. Whats up with that
Apparently Emma Nedov got through.
You will find the team here:http://www.commonwealthgames.org.au/Templates/Games_YouthGames2011_AustralianTeam.pdf
OMG wasn't Georgia Godwin selected? Who was instead?
WTF? That is injustice....
Is there another comp? Maybe Georgia is going somewhere else?
We don't know the full story behind selections. There are many factors that make up team selections. Yes the most important is competition results. Others include coaching availability and whether girls are carrying any injuries. You must remember that worlds are just around the corner and seniors at the moment take precedence.
That is a good point but only serves to make the selection even more odd. As far as I know Georgia's coaches do not have any seniors (larrissa moved didn't she?) and VHPC has something like 8 trialling for worlds and have a senior coach named to the team. One of the Vic girls isn't even a junior yet. The only thing which would make this selection make sense to me would be if Georgia has made herself unavailable for this comp.
Japan Junior would be this year too wouldn't it, maybe Georgia is going there, stronger competition
VWHPC coaches made not have made themselves available for Japan Junior as it is on top of worlds. This maybe why the two HPC girls are going to junior commonwealth games and not Japan.
I can not believe they are not selected the national junior champion . Shame on you Peggy.
Maybe Georgia doesnt have enough international experience to go to such a big comp like youth comms. Maybe she will go to japan. She is truely a brilliant gymnast
If she doesn't have enough international experience, how did she beat the girls they selected to represent Australia earlier on in the year. Are you serious??? She won the National Championships which was the selection trials, something is not right with the people in power!!!
has anyone heard which seniors got selected for the worlds training squad?
I think you have all missed the point(REf Anon 2.37pm)- Peggy has probably said there are two international comps on the table and put it to the coaches which one can they attend? Coaches with Senior gymnasts have probably said they cannot attend Junior Japan as Seniors are their priority and they need to be with them for word Camp at same time- This means that HPC girls only coulld attend Junior COM Games as their coaches wouldnt be available for Japan-Coaches that have no Seniors going to World camp will be the ones most likely to have their girls going to Junior Japan as we need a team there also(Other ex HPC girls stil to be announced) Lets remember SENIOR ALWAYS have prority with Juniors at this stage just requiring International. experience
Ok. That makes sense. When is japan jnr selected/ announced?
Maybe Peggy picked the girls for Junior Comms that have the most experience internationally? Surely you would want relatively experienced girls to represent us?!
Junior Japan girls have been told, announcement to come soon.In my opinion it has nothing to do with experience etc..purley coach availability
Experienced or not experienced, I think our best should represent the country!! They have to start somewhere! Whether its Junior comm games or Japan, I think any comp is just as important.
Why did Georgia G not get the experience overseas earlier on in the year when the others went?
The comp earlier in the year was based on verification at camp. The girls who went came 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Which juniors are going to Japan?
Yes and Peggy has the power to change results at varifcatitions and comps to select who she wants to go forward. True results only come at overseas comps that's where the judges unbiased.
I would say Godwin is a sure pick for the youth com games..... great gymnasts, came first at Nationals in junior. She is a hard worker and will represent the country well. We have been told the top three girls would go, so I would imagine it will be Godwin, Eade and Nedov.
I thought I understood this sport... but how wrong I was, Peggy picks who she likes not the scores.... Godwin I don't think has been picked instead an IDP10 got the spot. Poor Godwin, what does she have to do to get a go...
The team has already been chosen. See the above link. Georgia G wasn't selected.
Godwin needs to go to the HPC VIC they seem to get all the gigs these days... Coaches should not come into play, Godwin deserves the spot over all and especially over the IDP10 girl Leydin... this is a joke!!!this sportis far to subjective. Godwin won and she should be going, what is Peggy up to.
I hope her coaches fight for her, this is so unfair what does this girl have to do!!!!!She is a great gymnast and looked fabulous at Nationals
You have got to be joking, no Godwin....... what an unfair sport. In other sports the ones that come first GO, why is this sport different, here it is who is liked and thats it, talent comes second. So wrong and unjust.
Someone mentioned it was about the coaches as well as the gymnasts. You are right the HPC head coach is the coach selected and what a surprise two HPC girls make the team. One not even a junior.Politics
Perhaps they want to throw in an IDP10 to try and build experience at even lower levels so that for the Olympics in 2016 our seniors will have lots of experience to rely on.Polly
The CG are an age group not a level group and Leyden is the correct age and a great gymnast. The coach is chosen to best compliment the gymnasts and that is why the HPC coach is going. If Godwin is going up Japan junior then she has a pretty good gig as it will probably have a lot of great juniors from around the world and more of a challenge than CG will be. She does need to clean up her execution though - very messy
Japan Junior is a much more prestigious event on the International calendar. The Junior Commonwealth Games are not a big deal like Australian make it out to be, not even on the radar for the serious gymnasts, just unsubstantiated bragging rights locally. Anyone who is a serious contenter in the future will be at the Japan Jr. event in Yokohama., not at the Isle of Man. If you look at the selection carefully and read between the lines, Godwin and Cassis are the ones that Peggy is looking out for, they are the ones she wants to present to the world and give the experience, side by side with the USA, Russia, China junior gymnasts. Look at the past juniors that Peggy has sent to Yokohama (Sims, Joura, Little) all major players. There is more that happens for long term planning than meets the uninformed eye.
Please remember that these girls are still young. I really take offence to some of these comments. I hope you back all the girls when they go overseas. I can see what is about to happen. If they do not do well they will be bagged. Get behind them all.
I am wondering why they send 3 girls to jnr comm games? Seems an odd number to me or is it 3 in a team?
I don't completely agree with you 6.43am. The financial PTB will be looking at commonwealth games from a future funding perspective and I think both competitions are equally important and a great opportunity for the girls. Peggy could have chosen one group of girls to go to both comps but opted to give more girls the experience
I agree with 7:41. If a stronger team was being sent to Japan then it would have been Georgia and Alex. I think Peggy has said there are two comps and for coaching purposes it is easier to send two girls from the same club to the same comps rather than splitting them up. This can be said for both Junior Comm (HPC) and Japan (MBC).Just wish all the girls the best and get behind all of them.
Finally someone who makes sense!July 26, 8.18amPeople please re read!July 25, 10.04am
Squads and teams just announced on GA website
What junior have been put in ahead of 2012 eligible seniors... must be time in Peggy's eye for girls to pack their bags!!!!
lol that is the most bizarre Olympic squad ever. Do IDP10s really need to be funded? wtf?
Does it mean that the younger girls who are on the Olympic squad that they are funded? Some of them are still too young for the next Olympic right?
This is a favourite list.... read it and think about your future guys.A BIG MISTAKE!!!!!
THere are many 2012 girls injured that have not had a look it..... obviously if you are injured you are out of sight and out of mind....does that mean they have lost faith in them... I hope they come back and shock the pants off them!!! so shortsighted and unfair.Injured girls are treated so badly in this sport...
Just off the topic... someone mentioned that HPC chose the Isle of Man as their comp... well it appears to me that the HPC head coaches are never at their gym these days, have they got some new coaches to look after the girls they are always leaving behind and to cater for their increasing squad numbers.
7 seniors and 7 juniors ( well IDP 10 and junior) on the olympic squad? Is this a first? Or is it normal for this time in the cycle?I had a bit of a look at our 2008 Olympic team and most of them were competing internationally before the end of the 04 cycle.Does anyone know when the squad of 12 to go to trial 2 for worlds will be announced?
I don't think we had that many seniors in 2004/2008.... we have a large bucket now which is great but unfortunately they are not looking after all of them.A selected few get picked over and over and others are left. Some can be injured and not compete but still get everything and others get nothing. There should be a pathway which all follow and all get rewarded when they reach the level.
All the injured seniors can get selected onto the Olympic Squad if they show themselves to be healthy and able to contribute to the team. That is why there are six spots left available. I think it is a good strategy, if you are a senior and have not made a move nine months out of the Olympic Games, then when?
I agree with the last comment although, I don't understand why the young ones are in that squad if they can't be selected.
These 7 girls will probably form the Worlds team you would think,If not all of them Brennan, Little,Mitchell, Miller and Monckton will be there. Peggy would'nt dare not select her favourites. That only leaves 2 spots. Why would you even bother if you were a Senior who has just been diregarded. Dangerous game of emotions being played.
From a parents point of view I am devastated that my daughter has been left off the squad and has to proove herself again.
All the seniors and 96juniors left off must be devastated, I cant understand it. They only look just infront of their noses and the funding is so badly managed, these young one get funding ahead of seniors who have put in more years. Amazing the sports commission will never back this sport they will reduce funding.
Dear anon 11:30am.I totally understand, but at this age they choose to be there. As parents we can only support them and be there to pick up the pieces again and again and again....I hope it does'nt mess them up to much in the head!Body's can heal but the mind takes a lot longer.I have seen and heard what "mind games" can do after the sport has ended. Its all very well that they say that girls are staying in the sport longer these days it seems, but at 17,18,19 it mentally is exhausting and I can understand why many leave after 1 Olympic cycle.Australia needs to encourage girls to stay for more than 1 cycle but the way they go about it by only looking after what seems to be a select few, then they won't succeed and will always struggle at the top end for experienced Seniors. Very sad for girls who have given up soooo much for the sport.
