Would be nice to hear from other gymnasts who have to go through a similar journey as they are inspirational to up and coming gymnasts.Good luck Amelia!

I see the VWHPC page has listed Brennan, Wheeler, Monckton,Rose-Brown and Greely attending camp. No Lorenzin? WAIS has sent Chung, Mitchell and Little.Miller from QAS, Amelia is not trialing for worlds, so is there any one else? Very down on numbers.

What a lovely interview with Amelia, I hope she continues to overcome her injuries and regain her skills because at PacRim she really showed what a beautiful gymnast she is. Good luck Amelia!

Problem is with all these so-called performance/training camps, gymnasts are getting injured before even competing. Those that are in power, get over yourselves and let the gymnasts compete to the best of their abilities before you screw them up.

Pfft. Gymnasts get injured all the time. Not the fault of the camps.

I disagree that the selection camp would be causing more injuries.

The team would be in heavy training/peak mode even if they were in their home gyms.

Using camp to select (as opposed to a trial in an arena) is far MORE protective, as there is more opportunity to use equipment such as tumble track, foam pits, extra matting, etc.

Gymnasts have the opportunity also to show consistecy and fitness over a longer time period. Any gymnast can have a fluke fall, so seeing the team perform regularly is more likely to lead to a selection of the most reliable, consistent and best team.

Of course I would love a trial that as a fan I could go along to and cheer for the girls, but ALSO as a fan I want whatever is BEST for the girls.

For me the best compromise would be opening the training camp (or at least the control tests/verifications) to public view.

But then, maybe they are? I've never actually enquired as I don't live in Canberra.

trials are open, just rock up

I don't think the trials are open. AIS Gym doors are generally locked and the way to go in via the aquatic centre is awkward as you almost have to walk through the gym.

Anonymous said...

If the trials are open, the doors would be open I presume?

I remember someone videoed the entire 2002 CWG trial at the AIS, and it was fascinating. Pretty sure he didn't need special permission, either.

Any readers here in Canberra and can find out/go down Friday or Saturday?

Camp finishes Friday I think with the men finishing up on Saturday. Does anyone know what time the verifications are?

Anonymous said...

Sorry I was wrong, the trial does go over til Saturday. Still don't know a time though.

Just rock up. Don't be scared, the girls preform in front of people all the time what makes this time any different. You'll find a way in. preform in front of people all the time what makes this time any different. You'll find a way in.

If anyone COULD possibly go and bring back a report (or even videos!) they would have some eternally grateful fans... :)

The Trials are certainly not open to the public, why should i allow that. And as for Amelia, she still needs to prove herself to me in a big way.

*crickets*

Please reassure me that a national coach would not articulate such comments in such a tone, in a public forum. Mildly disturbing and somehwat reactive.

Trolls...

Well, today's trial must already be over. VWHPC report on their Facebook page that all their girls performed well. No details, otherwise.

To help whet our appetites, here is a list of the FX music of our nominative list athletes:

Ash Brennan: Harem by Sarah Brightman

GRB: Carmenita Lounging by Claude Challe

Emily Little: The Strength of the Righteous by Ennio Morricone

Larrissa Miller: A-Gusta by Safri Duo

Lauren Mitchell: Besame Mucho by Consuelo Velezeguez/Freddy Mercury

MAM: Child of Nazareth by Maxime Rodrigueuz

Nikki Chung: 2046 Main Theme by Shigeru Umebayashi

Anyone know what Georgia Wheeler, Emily Little etc music is?

Sorry, meant to say anyone know what Britt's music is?

Remember the name, by Fort Minor

As I see it there is really only 1 spot up for grabs after you count Miller, Mitchell, Monckton, Little, Brennan. It will be who out of Chung/Wheeler/Brown/Greeley has the best VT/UB offering with solid backups on the other events.

I'm not all that sure that Miller's spot is secure -- I think it will depend on how she goes at trials and the D scores she is aiming for.

Certainly hope she is peaking and in fine form!

Trials are from 10am , yes they are open to public
