"The training and effort that goes into these performances puts other sports to shame...When will our media support sports besides the mainstream ones?"
You tell 'em!
Oh, and marketing team that thought up the "nude bodypainted models" at the Women In Sport Awards? - You got your gymnastics mixed up and your integrity completely inside out. Big fail.

Damn straight!
Does anyone still read the Age? Or any or the rubbish that Fairfax/News corp spew out for that matter.
"very little was reported in Australian media"?
I saw nothing reported in Australian media regarding Worlds - and it's been the same every year except for brief one off mentions for Rizzo & Mitchell's wins.
The old media is a joke and it's poor quality it contributing to it's own death. Gymnastics isn't the only sport that is ignored. Consider how much they report about rowing, water polo, diving, hockey, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing, boxing, canoe/kayak, volleyball, figure skating, skiing, aerial skiing, speed skating, handball, bmx, archery, badminton, squash, equestrian, mountain biking, sailing, table tennis, shooting, weightlifting, powerlifting etc. And some of these sports are actually quite popular, so there is no reason that they shouldn't get coverage except that the old media is stupid and has no idea. Some surveys have even shown greater interest in gymnastics than golf. Yet consider how much the report on golf. And they provide around the clock coverage of minor provincial sports like AFL & NRL. But it doesn't matter. I haven't read a newspaper in years and I see more and more people doing the same. With great sites like the couch gymnast, gymnastike, oz gym blog, gymnastics coaching etc providing increasing amounts of gymnastics coverage I can now follow whats going on in gymnastics and I haven't heard a thing about rugby or cricket in years. So if it doesn't get reported in the old media, who cares? The old media is on life support and niche sites providing the interests that people are passionate about will continue to grow.
The sports listed are also ones that the U.S. isn't good at (soccer is another example, though the media tries to interest viewers, but to no avail). Plus, unless it makes money for the networks..they aren't interested.
And the way the media make money is through public interest and Gymnastics and the other sports mentioned above are just not cutting it sorry :( the majority find gymnastics boring and the scoring is to complicated for the general public to understand.
your as dumb as the journalists. gymnastics DOES have public interest. you should actually talk to people. lots of people have an interest in gymnastics and would read about it/watch it if given the chance.
