Apologies in advance for vague-sounding quick hits, Brindabella is kinda new to gym terminology. I'm filling some of the gaps myself.

Anyone know why Sims is out of floor?

Anonymous said...

Judges did not like Sim's new floor routine + she fell on both routines so only finished 7th. I think.

Anonymous said...

Did Chloe win bars?

Anonymous said...

I don't think Chloe fell on floor on Friday night.

Sandy said...

are you saying sims pulled out because she has fallen last 2 times & the judges dont like her routine???

I hope not

if that is the reason why chloe didn't compete then that is VERY immature, selfish and really shows her true colours

maybe she has not grown up as much as we have thought.

I really hope it isnt, but If this is the reason for pulling out, then i wouldnt want her representing our country.

Anonymous said...

I don't think she was hurt so I'm mystified as to why she scratched floor.
Brinds

Anonymous said...

I hope that is not why it is. Don't forget Chloe has not competed at this level for over three years. She competed AA on Thursday and friday and three apparatus's today, maybe she though she had done enough.

Anonymous said...

No, she did not pull out, she did not qualify, isn't it just the top 6 that qualify for aparatus finals!

Anonymous said...

I thought it was eight?

Sandy said...

I thought it was the top 8?

Brinds - if you find out, can you please let us know?

Anon 6.32 - Done enough?? If sims is serious about worlds or the olympics, then pulling out of an apparatus for no reason shows she is not serious at all!

I will be VERY VERY surprised if she makes it to worlds now!

Sims seen icing shoulder on sidelines

Anonymous said...

Georgia Simpson dislocated patella about a week before nationals. Fortunately shouldn't be a long recovery until she is back.

Anonymous said...

Sims would never pull out for no reason.
She did not compete bars at States due to a shoulder so proberbly just aggrevated it!
Lets hope so I think the Australian Team need her.

Anonymous said...

oh please. people are so silly! Chloe is injured! and despite these many injuries she still did two full days of competition as well as three apparatuses today. She would have been advised to save herself from further injuries from her coaches. Why punish your body when you can save it and be in better form for world trials and worlds.

Anonymous said...

Chloe has several injuries. She has been limping out from the gym every night with a sore ankle, knee and shoulder but is determined to work through it. That is determination. I think the Chloe knockers should give her a break.

Anonymous said...

Ditto
Leave Chloe alone she fantastic and theres more to come, she's only been back a short while.

Anonymous said...

Don't the vaults have to be from two different families to be in the finals.

Anonymous said...

Normally but think the girls just competed one vault.

Anonymous said...

No Goodwin did two vaults one from each family I think and the other girls did two vaults from the same family.please correct me if I am wrong.

Anonymous said...

Just to clarify some of the questions asked - definitely only some girls vaulted 2 vaults - most did only one. I'm guessing there would not have been a vault final if they had to have 2. I hope they took the best vault and not the average as it wouldn't seem fair otherwise.
I don't know anything about Chloe's prior injuries but she hurt her shoulder/ arm in her bar warmup and was seen to be icing it after. I figured she pulled from the floor final because of it. Would have loved to see her floor again but obviously her health must come first. It was such a privilege to be able to see her at all. She looks fantastic and conducted herself impeccably on the comp floor. She seems to have a very good relationship with her coaches and she was very focussed. I thought her floor was a little flat towards the end maybe due to fitness but it was exciting all the same. Her double front on floor and dismount (beam) is amazing. So high and almost from a standing start - just a couple of steps. I would be over the moon if she were able to progress to trials and hopefully the world team. Tattoos were very well covered. If you didn't know you definitely wouldn't guess. Of course most people in Perth saw her training in short sleeves so we know they are there but she had less strapping to cover them than most gymnasts have for injuries!
Thanks to everyone who covered the event - I couldn't have done it - too busy trying to take everything in.
I agree Lauren was gifted at times - she is definitely capable of those scores but some of her routines had a few errors which didn't seem to be reflected in the score. Having said that, she was not the only one. There were some VERY generous scores particularly on bars. Scoring was all over the place in all the international levels and many changes were made to scores after they were flashed. Changes to execution, not difficulty which I thought was odd but I was told that this is not unusual. That's pretty much it. Tonight's session was great but the depth was not really there. Lauren looks good, MAM and Chloe but no one else really stood out to me as looking like a potential worlds team member. I hope improvements come quickly and some of injured return in time or I don't like our chances of qualifying this year for London.

All I want to say well done to all the JNR and SNR girls for a great comp. and that you to Mez and all her team for the updates.
It's a pitty I was not there for all the action but with my girl still getting over injury she did not compete this yr,. Fingers crossed she wil be ready for National Clubs.

Re Vault- Juniors can do from the same family- Seniors must do from 2different families.
If you remember last years Junior Olympic games the Juniors did 2 vaults from the same family
Re Georgie Godwin - I believe 1st vault she attempted the DTY and 2nd vault was a FTY- Same family

Anonymous said...

That may be true but I'm pretty sure many girls only did one vault. Lauren did a DTY, I can't remember seeing her do a second vault. Actually I can't recall a second vault from any senior.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry but I am still to be convinced about Chloe.Yes there is some talent there, but I can't see how she fits into the team.I don't feel she is a good role model for an Australian Elite Gymnast. From what I understand she swears like a trooper on the floor, drinks red bull on the floor, the tattoos are a problem when she has to wear short sleeve for training and she smokes. Not someone I would want my daughter to look up to no matter how talented on the floor she is.
She did hurt her shoulder on UB warm up and was icing her ankle after. That would been why she pulled from floor.GRB was in tears after BB and was seen icing her ankle also.I thought overall the comp was a average. Some glimmers of hope for Worlds but a bit of a worry.

Anonymous said...

There is an article in the West Australian Sport section with regards to Lauren and Nationals

Anonymous said...

Shame about Simpson injuring herself just before Nationals.Hope she can trial in the second trials. What I saw of her at States was very promising.Beautiful Bar and Beam worker.

Anonymous said...

Senior's all did one vault. Juniors did two, most did vaults from the same family iirc.
Godwin vaulted a 1 and 3/4 twist to land on her side. Her second vault was a handspring front Pike 1/2 that was very close to the table.

Anonymous said...

I saw no evidence that Chloe swore or smoked. The red bull comment is just plain weird and I don't see why it would make her a bad role model anyway. If she was swearing she kept it fairly quiet ( I was there all week and didn't hear it).
By the way in some parts of this country swearing is accepted and normal. Are you suggesting that our elite athletes should come from only one socio economic group? There are other girls on the floor that come off as being a bit "rough". Is this a selection requirement now?
The way I see it Chloe still has a way to go (which is great news) but she already looks as good a anyone except Lauren and better than most. I wish her all the best.

Anonymous said...

It will be interesting to see if Sims can conform to what is expected of an Australian team member.I don't think they are all little Angels, but they know how to look and behave as professionals on the floor.I also heard from a number of people about her language and don't think that is acceptable, drinking anything but water or approved sports drinks is what you would expect on the floor, red bull is not known for its health benefits and I don't think any coach would be happy with an Elite gymnast drinking such a drink out on the floor after comp. Smoking is not a good image for any Elite athlete in any sport whether she does it in private or not,it doesn't go with the sport.
A lot of young girls look up to the Seniors and whether they like it or not have an obligation to be seen to be doing the correct thing.
Just as footballers and any other high profile Athlete.

2 words. Shane Warne
If you are good enough - concesions will be made.

My daughter wanted to get autographs from all her idols the other night.Chloe I think was the only one without her tracksuit jacket on which exposed her tattoos. She did not look like someone who was trying to fit in but wanted to stand out instead. I did not think it was a good look for an Elite Gymnast.

Anonymous said...

What is wrong with tattoos!!! Rather narrow minded, simple-minded commentary on this issue.

Anonymous said...

What a pack of snobs!
Last week it was Georgia bashing, this week it is Chloe bashing!
I say to both girls Kick arse any way you can, we need you both on the team.

Anonymous said...

Which Georgia? And agree, getting pretty fed up with the narrow minded attitude of some people. Incidentally, I spoke to a lot of people at nationals this week and while there was a lot of conversation about Chloe and her tatts none of it sounded like the prudish comments on here. Mostly, eyebrows were raised, comments were made about how well they covered up and hopes of her making the team were expressed.
To the parent who didn't like the way she set herself apart during autographs and didn't like the influence she might have on your daughter - isn't it your job to talk to your daughter about this? Are you worried that all your 10 year olds are going to want to rush out and get a tattoo? Maybe an Olympic rings one would be ok?
Get over yourselves!

Anonymous said...

Omg. Some people are ridiculous. Several of the Chinese and Japanese gymnasts light up a cigarette before they leave the carpark after training. I have never seen Chloe near the gym with a cigarette and i have never smelt it on her. Plus it doesn't matter if she does. It is her choice. Mind u I hate smoking. Do you want Australia to make it to the Olympics or not. I do. Chloe should be in that team. You must be a serious princess to be so concerned about pathetic trivial matters. It is about the gymnastics. Chloe is a very talented gymnast who could add greater depth to the team.

All I can say is that Peggy and the selectors will pick the best team they can from the healthy ones. And If Chloe has proven herself then she will go smokes and all.
The selectors have done bloody well over the last few years to get Australia where they are under Peggy’s leadership so they will pick the best possible team they can. It’s a make it or break it event for AUS.

Is it the top 12 or top 8 teams that get into the Olympic teams competition for 2012. How many gymnasts are the countries that don't make the team competition allowed to send?

I think that Australia needs Chloe Sims. As controversial as the decision will be, her start values and gymnastics is needed on the team. She proved that this week by placing top 4 all around and 1st on bars.

Anonymous said...

I believe that the top 8 teams at Worlds this year qualify a team for the 2012 Olympics. Then there are 4 more team spots which will be selected from the trial event early in 2012. So I'm fairly sure the aim would be to qualify at Worlds and it could be a tough competition.

Good to hear despite the fall in app finals that Lauren seems to have upgraded her start value on bars. Also must have been a pretty unreal beam routine to score a 14 in event finals even with a fall.

Seems generally that MAM and GRB improved at this comp compared to the Japan Cup so that is a positive.

Bars is usually the apparatus that Aus hasn't had the start values necessary - so Chloe and Mary-ANn could be useful on bars.

Vault also seems to be an issue compared to other teams in the 5-12 range. Not that I would ever encourage gymnasts to do vaults they aren't ready for but some more DTY would be useful for the team score. Hopefully Emily is uninjured and may be able to contribute.

Overall, some positive signs, some inconsistencies but it's just a shame so many gymnasts were injured. Hopefully as many will be uninjured as soon as possible!!

To the naysayers who are saying Chloe is a bad egg because of her tatts, drinking red bull and smoking... perhaps you should pull your ponytailed, silver clipped, hair out of your ass and wake up to yourself. It might disgrace you to know that some of the MAG gymnasts had mother drinks on the floor during the comp and also have tatts, smoke and god forbid drink alcohol! They are adults, they can choose to do what they want. If they are getting the results, what is the issue?? Not everyone in this world and particularly in the gymnastics world is a sweet, innocent ponytailed girl who lives a life dictated by a coach.

Simms injured her shoulder during warmup on bars i was sitting above her and clearly saw how upset she was talking with her coach. I was surprised she got back up and competed, my daughter saw this and was impressed at her determination this is were roll model plays part for the other gymnast. what she does in her private time is her business. i loved watching her and i cant wait to see her compete again.

Anonymous said...

Chloe Sims definitely raises my eyebrows in some respects, and not necessarily the right ones, but I do admire her determination and tenacity. I always felt she shouldn't have retired when she did, so I'm glad to see she's giving the Olympics another go. She's a brave woman for doing what she's currently doing. I hope the hard work pays off for her!
