Francey Pants

The Victorian Women's High Performance Centre has put up some photos on Facebook of the Aussie team in training at Combs la Ville.

'Like' their page to find out more.

The official event website is here.

Also, this is a bit cool (insert "whatever floats your boat" joke here)!

“Lauren has been groundbreaking in her sport and we’re thrilled that she agreed to christen a boat that we hope will lead to more success for Mathew and I,” said Page. “We often just focus on our own sport so it was great to bring two sets of athletes together who have won World Championships in 2010 because there’s plenty we can learn from each other.”

Don't forget to keep voting for Lauren in the Sports Performer of the Year Awards, you can submit a fresh vote every day.

Happy Thursday!

******************************************

News of our great results has filtered through via VWHPC!

Georgia Rose Brown finished second all-around, and the Aussie team came tops in the teams event!

Merci à Benoitof (de Gymnet.org) pour cette photo haut-qualité! Bon effort!
(Apologies for the extremely mangled French)

The apparatus finals results are in!

VT: Nikki 2
UB: Nikki 1 Georgia Rose 2
BB: Georgia Rose 1
FX: Georgia Rose 1

A couple of notes (from what I could decipher in French):

"Vault - the second Australian executed a super Yurchenko half [might've been half on half off?])
"Bars - Chung/Brown had beautiful execution with good difficulty - Chung a full-in dismount)"
" Beam - The Australian [Brown] won with a good but cautious routine."
"Floor - Brown won with beautiful movement, very graceful, tall and slender. Joura showed the most difficulty - double twist, 1 1/2 to 2/1... she was excellent, her fall was a shame. The double twist was magic!"
"Brown... reminds me somewhat of Khorkina!"

Congrats, team, for sweeping the finals!

Wher eis Gerogia Simpson? Please tell me she is still going?

Anonymous said...

could she be meeting up with the team at Massilia?

The poor girls look very tired. I wish them all the best of luck.

Georgia is going to Massillia

The HPC have also updated their website with new squad photos.

Note to GA - national clubs is in less than a month and you still have not published a definitive schedule or workplan. No wonder people don't support your events.

Funny - i was thinking the same thing 10 minutes before i read this

further to my comment at 2:55 - they were doing so well - come on GA keep it up!!

Anonymous said...

Yes GA were doing so well but we have also not heard anything about the girls who are competing in France. When they sent a junior team to the Pre Olympic Youth Cup in Germany there was a lot more information about it.

Anonymous said...

everyone just got back from cwg & worlds, give them a break....

Anonymous said...

I suppose so but a little bit about it wouldn't hurt. Does anyone know how the other girls went?

No info yet - I read on Gymnet that GRB scored 52.9, .3 behind the winner. Nice score for her.

The team scored 105.2, so that is an average of 13.15 per routine.

Anonymous said...

That's not too bad for a junior comp -- especially as there may have been mistakes in there which would have dragged the average down, and/or apparatus that the girls are weak on.

Hopefully we see some videos! Can't wait to see how they are all progressing.

Georgia Rose is really impressing me. Sure, she has falls occasionally but she never seems to have a meltdown or let things get to her head. She has consistently performed very well this year.

While her vault is probably too weak for her to get an AA spot on a major Aussie team, I could see her being very useful on UB/BB/FX, especially on UB for team finals.

Does anyone know where Nikki and Natalia placed and who made it thru to EF? Why does'nt the VWHPC
make a note of how the whole team placed, not just GRB.I understand she is a VWHPC gymnast but could'nt they also write about where the other girls place.

Mez said...

Chill out. As far as I can tell, the update stating the results was given via phone. So... they probably wanted to keep it short, their priority being to inform page subscribers of the VWHPC gymnast who got a medal.

Anonymous said...

Ok thanks Mez, thought it would only take a couple of seconds more to say how 2 other girls placed tho, its not that hard to do.

Anonymous said...

Also they are there as an Australian TEAM. So why not give results for the whole team.

Anonymous said...

To be fair they didn't say which finals anyone qualified for so all they have done is report a AA podium finish and a team gold. The other 2 aren't on the AA podium so I can't see what hasn't been reported here. I would love to know how everyone went too but the comp isn't over so I guess we'll know soon.

Exactly, VWHPC just gave out the medals that were won.I'm thankful to the VWHPC for giving us the information that we recieved.

Some info from Aurelia on TAAF. She is a very trustworthy source.

Individual AA results:
1- Thobie
2- Brown AUS
3- Serseri
4- Antoniazzi
5- Exum AUS
6- Joura AUS

It was an interesting comp. There are EFs tomorrow but I won't go.

Australian gymnasts were really interesting to follow (BTW, Georgia Simpson was not competing). Joura really looks like her sister, she had a huge bandage on both legs, and counted 5 falls IIRC.

Anonymous said...

If Joura got 6th AA with 5 falls, it makes me wonder what happened to Chung, Hingston and Eade!

Anonymous said...

Those who complain -- have you checked with GA, perhaps there are jobs available where they could hire you to report the results of comps to your satisfaction?????

I don't think any one was complaining as such about no info, just making comment on if you are going to give out SOME info with regards to results of an Australian TEAM competing, then whats the harm of giving a full comp results report of all aussie girls in the comp whether they are from VWHPC or not.I'm sure VWHPC members are interested on how the WHOLE team went individually, not just thier gymnast. Phone call or not, it does'nt take that much more effort.Where's the Aussie spirit!

Anonymous said...

Wow, 5 falls for Joura.Doesn't sound like she was perhaps ready for this competition. But the experience is what they are there for I suppose.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I wonder if she fell on every apparatus or had major issues on a couple.

Anonymous said...

Gosh, I have never seen so much strapping on a gymnasts legs! Wonder if that had anything to do with the 5 falls that Natalia had.If she is struggling with fitness then perhaps she should not be there.Last time she competed not 100%, it resulted with her crawling off the floor.

vwhpc put up the event finalists

Apparatus finals start today in combs la ville. The following girls have qualified:

vault
Tierra
Nikki Chung (WAIS)

Bars
Georgia
Alex
Nikki Chung (WAIS.

Beam
Tierra
Georgia.

Floor
Georgia
Tierra
Alex
Natalia Joura (QAS).

Good luck girls!

I'm guessing Natalia had falls on everything except floor.

Did you ever stop to consider that the only results the VWHPC have received so far are for their own girls? It is the weekend and there is no one in the office.

Anonymous said...

Thankyou to VWHPC nice to share the news about all the girls now.

Anonymous said...

I think people have been very hard on the VWHPC. They have shared a lot more information than GA has. They have told us the medallists from Australia and now event finalists.
Considering it appears as though Natalia fell on every apparatus but floor I wonder if her leg strapping is only precautionary as if she did have an injury to her legs I would think floor would be the hardest apparatus to compete well on.

Anonymous said...

I think it is all in the way that people read these comments.I don't think the comments are negative, just stating that if they are giving info out about some gymnasts it would be nice to give info about all.If whoever is there sending the info back to Austranalia can include all gymnasts in the report then thats good for everyone.

VT
2. Chung

UB
1. Chung
2. Brown

BB
1. Brown

FX
1. Brown

Anonymous said...

Its all very well having the high difficulty but if you can't execute it well, no point.better to go out and do nice clean routines until you are confident.Sounds like that has let Joura down in a big way!

Anonymous said...

Are there any vidoes?? Would love to see any routines!!

Fantastic results for the girls.GRB
did great with NC behind her.Shame about NJ. I don't think any selection committee would be happy with 6 falls in one comp from 1 gymnast.I think her coach needs to look at that and take her back to the gym and work on being consistant before going out on the floor. Perhaps she will do better at Marseille.

Anonymous said...

These girls need experience!! The more girls that Peggy gets out there the better.... not just the same few girls. Experience.... falls are part of learning and anyway NJ still did well so imagine how good she will be when she doesn't fall!!!!

Anonymous said...

All the 2012 should be sent somewhere as part of an Australian team as it will broaden our base....... as all the girls will then know what to expect. Thay all work hard and should be rewarded. These young girls are still developing and the 2012 cycle should be their focus for 2011.
Well done girls!!!

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the next assignment will go to Mayo King Koi/Katie Wurth/Ashley Cooney/Svetlana Sanders

All those girls are on the Olympic Squad but haven't gotten an assignment yet.

Anonymous said...

So true, but I think it will be hard for them next year as they are Seniors - which is one big bucket!! I hope Peggy does give the young seniors opportunities, as it does not look like any of our long term seniors are planning to leave the sport any time soon !!!......... so for some of these young seniors if they don't get a shot soon, their year of hard work has all been in vain.... that would be a hard pill to swallow for both the gymnast and their families..... so much sacrifice for very little return. Sadly this will be the case for some of our gymnasts as the sport is encouraging girls to keep going well into their 20's....... that could mean 16 years of investment, hard work and sacrifice and never make an Australian team!!

Nat Clubs draft is up
Junior/senior competition has the following groups...

Group A: MBC (4); QAS (4);
Group B: Waverley (5); Gymjets (3)
Group C: MLC (5); WAIS (3); Epping (1)
Group D: VHPC (5); AIS (2); Carmel (1); Grips (1)

Anonymous said...

I thought VWHPC had more than 5 junior and seniors. Obviously level quite a few behind.
Are there any new juniors competing at National Clubs?

Anonymous said...

If MBC has 4 then that means Georgia Goodwin must be competing Jnr at National Clubs, cant think of who else it would be unless its Brianna Wong?

Anonymous said...

I think the 5 competing VWHPC gymnasts in junior/senior are Tierra, Georgia, Laura, Zoe and maybe Alex or Ebonie or Grace. The first four I know for definite.

Anonymous said...

Georgia is not going - she is not listed on their website for National Clubs

Anonymous said...

Alex Eade is competing as a Junior at Nat Clubs

Anonymous said...

WOW - won't she have 3 years in junior, they are moving her along. Is she the only junior for VWHPC next year, as all the other juniors competing at National Clubs for them seem to be moving into senior. They don't seem to have any 2012 juniors, have some girls left?
