Thanks Mez :)))
Ok so who are the ones we should be watching out for ?
u16 - aiden messori and trenton wan(QLD) scott brooks (VIC) and Chris remkes(SA)
u18 Brody Hennessy (QLD) Tyson Bull (VIC) both might compete seniors?
Brody is 10under well thats what he competed as at states
I'm looking forward to seeing the range of scores through the Level 7 Under boys - few are 2nd year and lots first year ... scores around states are well ????? Thinking we will be seeing some boys scoring in the range of 5-7 on quite a few apparatus ... Does anyone know whats happening with this division next year?? will routines change
So who is the predicted winner for 6u and 7u? Any thoughts.
6under ... thought it would have been Cassiel from Qld but he's doing AGT instead ...
7Under ... again can't go past a QLDer in Jackson ... be good to see him with really polished routines this year ... last year was a tad too messy for my liking. I think boys from WA will push him to perform well. They should win the team comp.
are the workplans available anywhere yet??
wishing Kurt Benton from SA all the best for nationals this year ... :))
He deserves a great year!!!
Well some of the Qld boys are still young so I expect they will only get better. Well I notice from the profiles that Jackson Clarke is born in 1999. Cassiel is also extremely young, 2001. Shame he isn't competing. He would of been hard to beat.
Wow they are young. Doing well. Good luck to all the MAG competitors.
glad someone is talking about MG.
Go Victoria
Yeah I can't wait to see the boys in action.
Isn't it great to see the interest in our juniors ... these boys from 9-10years up are putting in lots of hours already - most in unders are in HPC's and are doing 20+ per week
I think the boys should be doing more hours. The girls that are 7 and 8 are now doing 30hrs. The theory aout boys staying in the sport much longer than women doesn't standnwith me. Why not train the boys harder and get them extremely good before puberty and then they are far better prepared for the big league. The girls are competing well into their twenties now as well. Our younger boys don't get pushed enough. If they saw what the boys in America are doing at the same age they would be embarrassed. The MAG coaches say USA, China are far better because of the population. They say they can push them harder and if they break, they will just move into the next guy. This is obviously a load of rubbish because if you look at our women, they are and have been for sometime competitive with other countries. Our girls are doing the same hours as what they train in USA and China and hey we still have enough uninjured gymnasts left at the end to be competitive. It could work exactly the same way with the men. I realise John Curtin tried to push one squad a few years ago and it didn't go to plan. Just because one group didn't go to plan doesn't mean the next group won't be awesome. Our only chance of getting a team to the Olympics is by training our men and women with the same intensity that the successful countries are training. You only need to google say 11 year old USA gymnasts MAG and you will see that we have absoulutely no chance of getting a gold metal in the future or even a team to the Games unless the coaches start expecting more from our boys. Just an opinion. Would love to here other peoples thoughts on the topic.
Qld have taken first two gold with wins in mag 9u and 90 team
In reply to Anon 4:16PM, I don't think the number of hours is the issue. In fact I think training more than 30 hours per week is counterproductive as you get more injuries and more gymnasts will quit. In fact, we are able to produce gymnasts that can compete with the best in the world - Rizzo, Sellathurai, Istria, Jefferis. The problem is that we just don't have enough guys training at the elite level.
Also, don't judge the performance of 11 year olds in USA. The most important thing is developing good basics at this age. Have a look at some of the Chinese gymnasts at 12 or 13. They are not doing big skills. Instead they are doing basics until they are perfect. Once the basics are mastered, the gymnast can learn higher difficulty skills much easier.
But getting back to the main problem - numbers. In fact our high performance centres are doing a good job. We have some of the best coaches in the world, we just don't have enough kids training there. We probably need triple the current number of kids in our high performance centres to ensure that we get a whole team of world class gymnasts at the senior level, not just the 1 or 2 that we currently have.
Letting 7/8 year olds train at 30hrs a week is crazy. The chance they will make it to senior would be reduced dramatically this is because the more hrs you do the more chance of injury. I would be interested to see the ratio on how many world class gymnasts from 7 years old have made it to senior training 30hrs from 7.
I think Australia neeeds more gymnasts and a lot more higher comps at a younger age so they learn how to deal with pressure. The MAG program I think could deal with increasing more hours as I think the young boys starting is very slow but not to the extent of 30hrs.
Yes I agree, but as they get older they should be doing enough to be competitive internationally.
yes when older more hrs body can handle it.
Not all can access a high performance centre also .... lots of talent out there!!!! and coaching ... well another story too - all clubs have the same difficulty in attracting and keeping the coaches with the experience and desire to keep the boys progressing ... would love to see the GA and HPC co-ordinate coaching programs, with monitoring and visits to large regional centres ... or the boys will be lost to the sport :((((
just gotta say I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of the coaches from all states over the last 4 or so years at nationals - WOW WOW WOW - we need to develop programs to keep them and encourage more to coach to ... I was told once that boys in HPC's are encouraged to stay on as long as they can to learn as much as possible cause they will make fantastic WAG coaches!!!!
what about the Qld HPC and John Curtin didn't work??? Results from Nationals have been heavily weighted in the favour of Qld gymnasts
John Curtin is great. The comment about John was simply that he apparently use to be really tough on the boys about 5 years ago and then a lot of the gymnasts got injuries so he then backed off a little. Certainly no bad words could be said about John. Awesome coach.
All the talk about coaching our up and coming ... check out Sportspeople.com.au ...
u18 - James Bacueti from ACT - have heard John Curtin has his eye on him.
