I was an elite gymnast 30 yrs ago & have not coached for 20! Could someone please post an explanation on each of the WAG/MAG Sessions. ie entry requirements for IDP,Junior & Senior, Levels, International Levels, Jnr/Snr Apparatus Finals etc

Anybody travelling to the National championships in Sydney should know that on Friday the 25th (the same day as the Womens finals) There is a major football game on at ANZ Stadium which is in the same vicinity as the gymnastics. There will be heavy traffic and very little parking. Do not make the mistake of driving in or catching a taxi - our train system is much faster!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the tip!

Anonymous said...

Thanks Anon 8.44pm! Very helpful information!

Anonymous said...

can't wait for friday night! v

Anonymous said...

The footy game starts at 7:35pm (I believe), so if you're there from earlier on in the day, you should be fine.

Does anyone know if Chloe Sims is competing? I heard she broke her foot not too long ago or is this a false rumor?

Anonymous said...

She did break her foot. She was still on crutches last week bit she said she was still competing bars.

Anonymous said...

Shes not on crutches today as far as I saw

Anonymous said...

That's great news. She was definately on crutches last Friday, hobbling out of the gym. She also had a very bad flu. Hope she has gotten over that 2.

Interesting that Nikki Chung recently won the WA State Championship title over Emily Little. That will be interesting in the AA at Nationals as Emily is considered to be in contention to take out the AA National title.

Anonymous said...

Wow , maybe Emily can't be so reliant on that DTY being her ticket for selection anymore .

Anonymous said...

I don't think either of them competed at states. Where is your info coming from?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Nikki will be " the dark horse" and surprise everyone . Doesn't surprise me that she is beating Emily. Her bars are far superior and with a DTY now she will be a good AA. We are lacking in good AA gymnasts. We havet to many girls specialising in 1 or 2 events. It's such a shame we still don't have great depth to chose from. Even though there about 20 girls competing, how many will actually do AA. Can't make up a team of to many specialists with only 5 girls on the Team.

Anonymous said...

I had heard that the WAIS Seniors competed seperately from everyone else in the WAIS gym the following week after States . They only did exhibition routines at states. I suppose for safety reasons leading up to Nationals, but Nikki was definitely the WA State Champion.

Anonymous said...

So that's what happened at States. It was very confusing and disappointing for the crowd watching the Seniors as this was not explained to the crowd prior to the girls doing modified floor routines. We were looking forward to watching them do full routines and only got half the routine and only floor , nothing else. I can understand why, but it was still a bit disappointing .

Anonymous said...

I don't think Nikki is really a good AAer. Her floor is so weak, I am not sure about her on beam but she is good on vault/bars. I can see her competing VT/UB/BB in quals at Olympics and VT/UB in TF. I really thought she was a good shot at the Olympics but was disappointed with her performance at the world cup she went too but she still has time to improve. I am actually quite surprised she beat Emily I know she is much better on bars but Emily is better on beam/floor. Did Emily compete AA at states.

Anonymous said...

I was happy to see that GSim got a mention in Couch Gymnasts article recently . If she has had a good recovery , would there be any chance that she could do the 2nd trial? I would do like to see her have a chance, love that " Pretty Gym" she adds to the Team. Amazing that she has recovered so quickly.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who competed at states, however the last comp where there are results online Nikki scored 13.7 on floor - only .3 behind Lauren on the day and 1.1 higher than Emily. This was 4.9/ 8.8 so perhaps her floor has some promise and we are yet to see her at her best?

Anonymous said...

I think Nikki has been improving and getting stronger and more consistent . Yes, do agree the recent World Cup was not her best and floor is perhaps her weakest, but I am not surprised she could beat Emily. She is far more Artistic and Bars , vault and beam are quite strong. Suppose we will find out at the weekend ! It will be a great Comp to watch. Can't wait to see what Dasha and Chloe have got to offer after so much hype about them. Still don't think they have much chance for selection, but they will be great to watch .

Anonymous said...

Yes Emily did compete AA at States.

Anonymous said...

Nikki's got to do more than throw 'only' a double tuck on floor in international comps.

Anonymous said...

Lots of girls do double tucks in Internationsl comps, so what's that suppose to mean?

Anonymous said...

What a great gymnastics story is Ashleigh. May all the girls strive for longevity in such a demanding yet rewarding sport. Good luck to all the girls going to nationals.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it was a very interesting read and a similar story I would imagine for most if these girls who all have had similar journeys, don't think her story is any different to any one elses at this level . They all sacrifice so much with school, Uni, social life. At least Ashleigh has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to already have had an Olympics to add to her career, some of these girls who work just as hard will not get the same recognition due to circumstances out of their control. They all deserve to go! Sadly they can't . Good luck to all.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard how podium training went tonight?

Anonymous said...

Is the draft schedule on ga the actual schedule of events?

Anonymous said...

Podium training went well

Anonymous said...

Has anyone seen a work order ANYWHERE????

Anonymous said...

Those that saw podium training, how are Dasha and Chloe looking.

Anonymous said...

It is not football on Friday, it is Rugby League, but it is state of origin time, so crowds will be down, plus they are not big crowd drawing teams, so it will probably be only 9-10k there. So it won't be too bad. Although, you should still play for some delays.

Anonymous said...

The website isn't clear , is National at the sports centre?

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure it is at Homebush

Anonymous said...

Note, there is a rugby league match on at ANZ Stadium on Friday night and it will be a small crowd. There is also a GWS AFL game on at the showground (at the top of the Olmypic Park Precinct) on Saturday night.

Anonymous said...

Re: wa states
Lauren only scored 14 on floor??

Anonymous said...

Its at sydney olympic park sports centre

Anonymous said...

thankyou anon 12.27

GWS are playing? That should draw a crowd of oh what, say 10 people? lol

Good luck to everyone competing, and have fun everyone who's lucky enough to attend! Can't wait for news/updates!

Anonymous said...

Did anyone get to watch Sunrise this morning? If so, is anyone able to post footage/a link to footage? Thanks if so!

Disappointing the majority of readers/contributors to this forum would have the knowledge but not the courtesy of replying to the first post. Gymnastics is a technical sport, it is up to those in the know to assist when asked if you would prefer your sport to be better understood and appreciated in the wider community.

Anonymous said...

To Disappointed:
If you go to www.gymnastics.org.au and click on the link to the Australian championships at least this will show you the schedule and perhaps answer some of your questions.
To attend the championships girls had to qualify in levels and be selected from their respective State to attend by attaining a qualifying score (as far as I know).
This is a team event against Japan and then individual finalists are chosen from this event.
Hope that helps.

Anonymous said...

great notes on the cough gymnast site.

Stranger Joura is dfefinitely not working bars.... only floor and vault.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the reply, much appreciated. It was, however, looking at the GA session schedule that prompted the first post here. I did also refer to the "technical section" of GA website to no avail.
I am familiar with the old progression of levels, in my time level 7 was the first of comp plus optionals, then bronze, silver&gold! When coaching, the idea of an international stream was in its infancy and only the strongest of clubs participated. I was not requesting a thesis, just a basic understanding of the new competition format - if not by a patron then at least by this forum's originator or GA whom was requested to reply via twitter. Ex-gymnasts I would imagine to be this sports greatest supporters. Ignore at your peril!

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:44: Basic run down...

International Stream starts at International Development Program (IDP) Level 1.
IDP 1-3 are state run competitions with compulsory developmental routines (inlcuding straps for bars).
IDP Level 5 (4 is skipped for some reason, as are 7 and 9 - the premise was to try to align the difficulty with the National Levels Program NLP corresponding levels) is also compulsory and the first IDP level that can be competed at National Club Championships.
IDP 6 is also compulsory routines (with some minor bonus available - 0.3 each on bars for locking out a cast handstand, beam for flip flip dismount and floor for stuck last tumble) and is first level for National Championships.
IDP Level 8 - new rules this year. Day 1 is fully compulsory routines. Day 2 you can add or substitute certain skills for bonus. Often quite a lot of bonus!
IDP Level 10 - is judged on FIG rules but there is an age restriction.
Junior - Also FIG
Senior - FIG.

To qualify for nationals there are both difficulty and execution score requirements for all levels IDP 6 to Senior. These are quite complicated but can be found on the GA website if you're really interested.

Hope that helps a little!

Anonymous said...

Ok, here's my short response but my expertise is more national program than international.

Gymnastics Australia runs two streams in WG - International and National. National stream runs Level 1-10. National Development Program (NDP) Level 1-3 are compulsory routines, NDP 4-6 are core skills + bonus put together into own routines. National Level 7-10 are optional levels which start values (D scores) are made up of composition requirements (ie. an acro element with flight on beam), difficulty (A,B,C from FIG code of points) and connection value/apppartus bonus. National 7-10 gymnastics are eligible to compete at National Championships.

International stream now uses a different program. It starts at the International Development Program (IDP) Level 1-3 and IDEAL skills testing. There are some routines but the focus is mainly on body preparation and skill development. IDP Level 5 was an in between step introduced a few years ago now to bridge the gap between IDP 3 and IDP 6, but only competes at National Club Championships and state level as far as I'm aware.

IDP 6 and 8 are compulsory levels (though pretty sure you can get bonus for harder replacement skills at IDP 8). These are the first levels that compete at National Championships for international. Skill level is something like: Handspring vault, bars: long kip, cast handstand, clear hip circle to handstand, giant, giant 1/2 turn, giant 1/2 turn and I think a layout flyaway dismount, beam has at least a back handspring in it and I think a change leg leap or switch leap (though not sure of all the current skills), floor has a fairly complex dance set (leaps and turns as well as preparation drills) and basic tumbling (front/back layouts I think. IDP8 obviously develops on this. Often they do a saulto vault, need more turning skills on bars like blind change and forward giants, acro series on beam and harder tumbling.

IDP 10 is an optional level with it's own set of requirements.

Then comes Junior and Senior International Level, which both use the FIG Code of Points (available free for download from the FIG website) that work in the same way as national stream. 5 composition requirements, difficulty based on the 8 hardest skills they perform in the routine, then connection value for putting hard skills together. Junior/Senior is determined based on age. Basically junior 13-15 years and senior turning 16 - not sure if it is in the year of competition, or before the year anymore - but age based regardless.

So international pathway is IDP 1-3, 5, 6, 8, 10, Junior, Senior. The requirements for each IDP level are available in the IDP manual through GA though pretty sure you have to pay for it. Same for national stream.

Given most of the people that know international stream the best are probably AT nationals right now, they may not have time to check sites such as this. I hope this helps somewhat?

Hopefully some video will end up on youtube and could check that out to see the differences in levels.

Friday evening is not sold out is it? And is the seating allocated? I was planning on buying tix at the door, but now the '400' more released ad bothers me.
I hadn't pre bought because I've never seen a sold out nationals aa yet.

Anonymous said...

They opened up another section of seating as it was sold out.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell me where the participant lists are? Is the G.A. Nationals website difficult to navigate or is it just me?

Anonymous said...

Nope, it's not just you - it is very hard to navigate. But I would be surprised if there is a participant list. That would be too much to ask for from GA.

Anonymous said...

Thank you kindly for the explanations of competition format. Feel more involved with understanding-best wishes to all competing

Anonymous said...

What do you think Mitchell will do with her beam dismount come London? Is a Patterson still on the cards, or will she be able to at least do a double pike again? I'd sure love her to bust out a Patterson!

Anonymous said...

it really doesnt look like Mitchell has the power to do a paterson dismount off beam! she is barely making a double tuck around. i hope she gets her double pike back.

On a positive note she is looking really fit ;)

It's been interesting reading all the media hype about the Olympic trials. It's a real shame how each program tries to out do each other with coverage of their girls. The article about Brennan and all her sacrifices, makes her sound like the only gymnast to ever have sacrificed Uni, school and life in general for an Olympic dream! There are about 20 girls trailing who have done just the same, some have had harder journey's. Sims,Vivian and Joura, Come back Queens ? I think they left it a bit late! But I suppose they are good publicity. Little ,frustrated at suffering so many injuries? Where do they get the info from! Can name a number of girls who have suffered more injuries and would have more right to be frustrated at lost opportunities, Donald, Lorenzin,Wheeler and more recently Simpson. I love this sport, but so much rubbish goes on when it comes to the Olympics. Seems every one loses their head! Let the results do the talking!

Anonymous said...

So what happened to Miller? I don't think it would only be a small niggle if they sent her for an MRI. GA are very good at downplaying injuries. Interesting!

Anonymous said...

Have to feel for McGrath as well who has had her dreams shattered due to ongoing injuries. You are right anon 6.58, there are many more athletes who have put in just as much effort and sacrificed just as much for many, many years who will have to sit on the sidelines. It is truly an unforgiving sport.

Mez said...

It'd be reeeeeeeally good if GA did bloody quickhits this year. God, chuck a fan a laptop and have them do it!

Anonymous said...

Couldn't agree more.

Anonymous said...

I don't think each program is trying to outdo the others with coverage- I think they're just doing their best to get ANY coverage.

It's a shame there are people in this sport who see enemies everywhere they look.

Anonymous said...

It's called journalism! More about building drama through the story than actual facts.

Anonymous said...

I noticed when you listed the teams tonight that Katie Wurth was not mentioned in any of them. Also there were no tweets regarding her, is she out of the compeition?

Anonymous said...

Shame on you GA your lack of coverage is apalling

Anonymous said...

Dear Gymnastics Australia,

Were your staff more interested in watching the SOO rugby tonight? What are the volunteers doing?

I follow US Gymnastics on Twitter etc they would do better covering an under 2yr old kinda meet!
Cannot find the words to express my frustration at the coverage.

If you can not be arsed, then at least provide a live stream like our worldwide competitors.

Can you imagine GA, if Australia had no access to the state of origin ongoing game?

Treat your fans/supporters with respect-not all can afford the thousands you charging to participate live!

PATHETIC! DISGRACEFUL! GRRRRRRR

PS Thanks for trying Mez

Katie was there- she was beautiful on floor as ever! I thought it was a really great night- of course there were errors etc, but some great gymnastics happened and we have a l;ot to be positive about.

Wow Lauren smashed beam and floor today with Dasha first on vault. Mary-Anne 1st on bars and Ashleigh 1st all around. Nice work girls.

Not Wolfie said...

10 years ago we were ranting on the Aussie Gym Board ( god bless the old days.. ) about how archaic GA was with its approach to putting the fan base FIRST - seems like not much has changed. how on earth do you build a business if you don't put the customer ie fans, first? Not with bloody morphs that's for sure.
I suspect they've still got the same old people running the show who don't quite grasp just HOW important social media is - we're not talking about in Australasia, i''m talking about global brand awareness.
My once gymnast daughter is now a very successful online marketing executive in Melbourne - one of her roles is to increase Facebook and twitter 'hits' 10 fold to increase brand awareness- which she has- cos she's an addict.
Even if GA has no marketing directing right now, why the HELL aren't they pulling a local fan off the street and paying them a casual wage to tweet and post like a demon for them when necessary?
Come on GA, it's a false economy to run your organization with 60 yr olds, get in the 20 somethings and your business will boom. Advertise in the crowd on Friday night, give them the equipment, provide the access, pay them in beer and bongs and bingo! Happy fans.

Love,
Long Liive Aussie Gym board.

Anonymous said...

Although we had great pre event marketing on the Championships by GA, it was a huge oversight on the behalf of GA staff to not use social media during the competition and inform the fans and interested onlookers not just from within Australia, but world wide with quick hits. With other countries attending and it being an Olympic trial as well, the reflection on the organization, l fear will be poor. Let's all hope you rectify that for the remainder of the competition GA

Anonymous said...

Of course Lauren smashed beam and floor, not saying she didn't , but the scores all around sounded highly inflated .
MAM score on bars was ridiculous! Her execution is never good, it shows thru who Peggy has already selected for her team. These trials are never fair.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, the scores were ridiculous! Would not score like that on the International arena. How did Little score what she did with errors? Agree about Monkton, she may have the D score but her execution is always suspect . Why do GA do this, are they trying to give the appearance to the rest of the world that our girls are better than they are?
It will be shock at Olympics when they don't get the same scores. I am not saying our gymnastics is poor quality, I think we have amazing gymnasts for the size of our program, but don't like this inflation of scores.

Anonymous said...

What happened to Nikki Chung? Didn't hear anything about her.I thought she would have been some where in the mix.

Anonymous said...

From what I could see, I think she (Nikki) hurt her foot and was withdrawn. Hope it's ok.
Hope Larrisa is ok as well. Heard she hurt her Hamstring.

Anonymous said...

scores were VERY inflated.

For more accurate results take off 1.0 from each score. This is giving false hope to the gymnasts!

I rememebr in the AUS VS China comp, they gave joura a 9.75 and cheng fei a 9.65...

Anonymous said...

Wow , nasty fall by Dasha, what a shame she just gave up.
She did well to continue, but showing her disappointment like that is just shades of the old Dasha. That would not sit well with the selectors. Such a shame as the routine looked good. Not a fan of the music but Dasha still can move!

Anonymous said...

Emily's floor is looking better than it ever has, just a shame her leaps let her down. Agree about Dasha, still has that attitude happening.

Anonymous said...

Yes Emily has made good improvements considering her full recovery from frustrating injuries. I don't recall her being out with injuries, agree with Anon 6.58 about Media coverage, where do they get the info from.
That was a very nasty fall by Dasha. Interesting watching her coach from the sidelines how he throws his hands in the air, reminds me of the time he sat and watched her sister crawl of the floor. Hope she can get through the routine better on Friday.

Anonymous said...

To: Anon 10:46 PM, Jazzy Casis pulled out of the competition through the advice of the Physio coz she sustained an ankle injury last Monday training and there was a lot bruising and it was hard for her to land on that foot so as to lessen more injury , she was at the audience watching with crutches and we will see more of Jazzy in the next comp National Club, hope for her quick recovery.

Anonymous said...

OMG, after looking at the scores , GA makes it very obvious, perhaps tooooo obvious who are the favourites for the Team. AB is obviously the one picked to have the title this year. That bar score, for someone who doesn't really do bars, seemed high. Feel for anyone else who thinks they MAY have a chance.Good to see so many having a go anyway.

Anonymous said...

Are all the tickets sold out for Friday?

Anonymous said...

To 12.49pm...I cannot recall Emily having any "frustrating " injuries. She has been the healthiest all this year.GS has been the most unfortunate with the open dislocation on her foot.Emily has been fortunate for injuries all her gym career, very few.

Anonymous said...

From what was said yesterday, there was more to the ankle injury why Jazminne pulled out. Then again, we don't know what's true.

Anonymous said...

MAM's bar score seemed very high, but then I suppose with LMiller not able to do bars GA wouldn't really want Chloe to top the bars. That could create a problem like last year when everyone fell on bars .

Anonymous said...

More Media Hype in the Herald Sun. Interesting comments by Peggy about how NO one is in the team as yet, we all believe that one Peggy! With a little help from inflated scores, yes they are out shining the others.
I thought Lauren stopped bars because of a shoulder injury not enabling her to do bars anymore, not because her coaches decided to "Ditch" bars to concentrate on the other 3 events. Why do they not tell the truth anymore, so misleading all these articles. Or is it that no one is interested in the truth.

Anonymous said...

WOW I am so proud of Chloe Sims right now! I did not realise she threw in a Tsuk one and a half on a broken foot!!! She may have sat it down but man how determined is she. GO CHLOE!

Anonymous said...

To 2:41

The truth? And YOU know what the "truth" is? Who are you? What a wanker! GA has no control over incompetent judges who throw scores, you should see the individual reports Peggy does after all the competitions, she is so tough on the scores and tells the gymnasts how their performances really were. There are only five spots on the team, there WILL be disappointment...what is your solution? (Be sure to tell the truth!)

Anonymous said...

Where's Emma Nedov? Thought I saw her on the floor yesterday

Anonymous said...

Any videos online yet?

Anonymous said...

Emma was in the stands but was not competing. She is having back issues.

Anonymous said...

I think the girls have all done a tremendous job. I love the fact that Olivia has returned. She is such a great role model and brings a fab vibe to the group

Anonymous said...

I really hope Zoe does her DTY and sticks beam in finals, she came 5th out of the aussies doing AA, so close!

Anonymous said...

The scoring was consistent across the competition.
No 'incompetence' IMHO

MAM's bas were fabulous last night. She had few errors and was given the score deserved as were the other girls.
Unless you have done the course and spent the time, don't go assuming you are the expert.

For those who would like to enjoy these routines (as opposed to sniping..) look up Ozgymnast on Utube. Many routines have kindly been shared.

Anonymous said...

scores were inflated. Peggy paid judges an extra $5 per hour to inflate them so it would reflect her choicesfor thr onlympic team. She also threatened to spank the ones who didnt comply and make them score bearers in future comps.

Anonymous said...

What was with Dasha dropping her bundle at the end of her floor routine. I know she had a fall, but seriously was that necessary. I could never imagine Lauren or any of the other girls for that matter behaving like that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dasha and would love nothing more than to see her make the team for her vault and floor. She has such an amazing presence but it's such a shame she behaved like this.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but E scores for the top group were certainly inflated slightly and in some cases to me were a little obvious.

Dash looked like she just gave up. Hope she rethinks her attitude - bad sportsmanship if you ask me

Anonymous said...

I'm a bit behind the times here, but where are all the mlc girls? Ie. Milly McGrath, Stella Savvidou, Emma curry etc

Anonymous said...

I believe Amelia has a sore back. She was supposed to compete. Disappointing because I was looking forward to seeing her stunning floor routine again. Not sure about Stella and I don't think Emma qualified?
Also, are these girls affected by MLC closing down their IDP program?

Anonymous said...

Woah, do MLC are closing their elite program??? Do you know why? They always had strong gymnasts..

Anonymous said...

MLC isn't closing the IDP program, it's closing the higher levels. As in IDP 8-10, Junior and Senior.
So yes, these girls are affected.

Anonymous said...

I too hope dasha rethinks her attitude. I got the impression she wanted to give nationals a crack but the second it went wrong she couldn't be bothered anymore. Like she just expected it to go fabulously, like it always used to, because she's Dasha Joura.

When it didn't she was mad and so was her mother and they yelled at each other for a bit after she came off the floor. Not a great example she set. I hope she's better tonight.

Anonymous said...

anon 11:54pm - lol

Dasha's 'performance' at the end of her floor routine was a perfect example of her diva attitude. That aside, I'd still love to see her gymnastics on the world stage again.

Anonymous said...

She won't be one of the final twelve if tonight's anything like Wednesday night was so you won't get a chance to see her compete on the world stage again anyway.

Anonymous said...

The team would benefit from Dasha's presence. She can pull a got vault out anytime and anywhere. She would be a chance of medalling on Vault. Her floor is outstanding when she makes it and she is getting more consistent every day.

Anonymous said...

Dasha does not have a chance of medalling on vault....she doesnt have a second vault.

Anonymous said...

If only Dasha got her bars back *sigh* She really could have been a great asset to the team if she did vault and bars (our 2 weakest events)

Anonymous said...

I really thoguht Chloe would be out of contention but with her high scoring bars and potentially well scoring vault she really could be the missing link. We could easily have two double twisting yurchenkos (loz and em) and two tsuk one and halfs (chloe and Ash)..... Its adds up. It would make sence to me. Lauren, Emily, Ashley, Larrissa and Chloe. Although that does leave us lacking on beam our strongest event... its so frustraing to have girls excelling on events dont compliment one and other.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Peggy was trialling 'team white' from the aus v japan comp(Mitchell, Little, Brennan, GRB and MAM) as the combo for London.

Mez said...

From night 1 performances alone I do not see Mitchell, Little or Brennan missing the team. It's those pesky last 2 spots keeping us guessing!

Anonymous said...

Mitchell, Brennan and Little are looking good for 3 of the spots which means the other 2 girls will need to be good on bars. That narrows it down to Miller, Monckton, Sims and Chung. Of those four Miller is the most consistently big scorer. If she makes the team that leaves a hole for a third beam worker. At this point in time I'd say the team would be Mitchell, Brennan, Little, Miller and Monckton.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. That will most likely be the team. Georgia Rose Brown as alternate

Anonymous said...

Chloe would give the team a high bar score, a strong vault and her floor is beutiful when she hasn't got a broken foot. She also has experience snd she knows how to win.

Anonymous said...

beautiful sorry.

Anonymous said...

Totally agree!

Anonymous said...

Well done Ashleigh!

Anonymous said...

Can someone please help me out.
GA has posted the results from tonight but only combined scores for each gymnast and not apparatus scores.(really helpful)
How many gymnasts qualify for the apparatus finals? and who has qualified for each?

TEAM BRENNAN 2012!

The Victorian/HPC program would be very proud of their achievement as the standout team at this years nationals

The Couch Gymnast said...

Anon, I was told she stuck it- so it must have only been a Yurchenko full.

Anonymous said...

wow fairly low scoring then considering Amaya got a 14.050 for a full twist yesterday.

The Couch Gymnast said...

yeah, don't get it.

Anonymous said...

Amaya competed h'spring pike half both days 5.0 sv.

If you are just waking up Ash, congratulations hon, a very well deserved win. Please do not be sad if you logged in before bedtime or just now to see no tribute from the blogs moderator - take refuge we are just as perplexed!
Congratulations to all our senior competitors, an amazing job done by all.

TG for The Couch Gymnast - if wondering how last night transpired, as always, an intelligent non emotive and conclusive report centered on the gymnasts performance, not the reporter!

Hope to see Video of Angela's Beam routine!

Anonymous said...

Oh god anon 8.36

Let's be friends.

Anonymous said...

Have been watching the videos and am quite impressed with Georgia bonora, especially on beam. Her bars looked pretty solid too. What are her chances?

Anonymous said...

So I guess this isn't the Australian GymNICEtics Blog eh? Play fair people, play fair.

I think at them moment Peggy would have her sights on a team of

Lauren- V,BB, FX
Emily-AA
Ashleigh-AA
Larissa- UB,FX
Mary ann M- V,UB,BB

But i would love to see Georgia Bonora challange for that UB,beam, vault spot if she can continue to stay healthy and get her events back. She used to have a piked and tucked full in on floor and a yurchenco 1.5.

I think the reserve will be GRB at this point but i would rather Georgia Bonora because they have similar bars scores and georgia Bonoras Beam has potential for high 14,s to low 15.

But its still early days anything could happen. from watching I must say Georgia Wheeler is improving ;). Her beam and floor are starting to have some control. I hope she sticks around for another year, along with the beutiful Angela Donald and the crazily talented Zoe Loerenzin

Gosh it is absolutely killing me that Dasha is not doing bars. Her floor was amazing. She seriously made this nationals for me and it was wonderful to see her back out there. There will never be another one like her, that's for sure.

Just the energy of her dance and every millisecond choreographed! I would pretty much die of happiness if she got to showcase that in London, although without bars we know it is not even possible given Lauren's status. There's no way we will put up only three routines IMO.

Her floor meltdown on Wednesday was odd, but it seemed to me that she got a bit lost. Every count in that routine is planned out and once things didn't go to plan it was like she just couldn't pull it together and work out where she was. It was unexpected because I suppose I expected her to be slightly less intense than last time (a la Chloe) but it seemed to mean more to her than ever not to mess up. Peggy was extremely supportive of her, clapping and cheering her on after she feel, which I thought was interesting.

Chloe was a welcome bit of spark. She just seemed so much happier and more passionate than she ever used to be on the competition floor. Older and wiser. She was tanking tons of routines in practice but then managed to miraculously hit both days out of the blue. She is tenacious and if she can regain her other 2 events before trial 2 she's gotta be in with a shot. They had an adorable bit before night one competition where Monette interviewed her Mum in the crowd and Chloe was looking up into the stands at them and absolutely beaming!

Lauren's floor routine was way better in person. I thought I hated it but it is actually really enjoyable to watch and the music is very captivating. I thought she did a great job pulling it off. The crowd was just wild for her last night. I thought her beam was good, but not quite to the level of past years. Just a little bit more laboured and lacking in a bit of amplitude - the double tuck is an example, and it's a shame because she's losing the .2 CV she used to get on the dismount.

Scores were definitely off, mostly by about 0.6-1.0 I thought relative to what you would expect internationally. Consistent across the board, but so outrageously inflated in e-score it almost reached the level of US nationals.

Amaya King Koi was a solid surprise, a quiet achiever. She has a wonderful roundoff layout on beam.

I am hoping we get some news soon on Nikki Chung. She has a new floor that is just beautiful so I was disappointed when she didn't compete. She seemed to be walking quite gingerly on that leg on Friday night though which is not a good sign. She spent the comp watching with Simpson. In training she was struggling with some of her bars combos, but the routine is interesting nonetheless. I love that she does a very deep piked stalder, a true piked stalder (as does Chloe), none of those 'dip in the toes' style ones for her!

GA had those hilarious morphs out on the floor last night which were pretty epic and also there was some random giant possum character roaming around the floor during the juniors! It was the highlight for me! It sort of sidled up to Martine and waited for her to look ;) and everyone was just like WTF!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for report anon 7:14pm.

I wonder what's going on with Lauren and beam, seeming more laboured and not doing double pike anymore. Is she worn out/tired? She certainly looks very fit.

I agree that team for London is looking more and more likely to be Mitchell, Little, Brennan, Miller and MAM. But would love to see Chloe or Donald or any of the girls really. They'll all wonderful. Sooo proud of them all.

Anonymous said...

Where can I see Angela's beam routine?? Please anyone??

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Ash, Emily, Mary-Anne and Georgia-Rose.
What a great job you did to help make for a very exciting  comp. Yah hoo!  All of the girls competing were superb.

A matter of opinion or to be of the opinion that, is by definition a point open to question. With that said... Thought I would see lots of blog discussion immersed in the happiness of success. You know, praise for the efforts of, the heartfelt congratulations to, and the words of support and encouragement for. Where is the commentary discussing techniques, style and performance?
Constructive critiquing is intelligent and important, however ignoring the success of our hardworking gymnasts, their coaches, the event/competition organisers and facilitators is just rude. This is an exciting time for Australia.  Each gymnast has again provided us with a great pleasure while working hard on their individual journeys. It is our turn to show respect for and to pay proper attention to this wonderful and talented team of athletes.

To our dedicated gymnasts,  I thank each of you. I  thoroughly enjoyed every minute.  And Thank you to all those who made it possible to watch, read, or cheer on the girls.  I have great admiration for all those involved.

Anonymous said...

I'm having trouble following the thread of your comment. Are you stating an opinion about having an opinion? Why did you only choose to congratulate 4 girls? On the one hand you seem to be berating us for ignoring the "success" of the gymnasts and on the other ask where are the comments about technique style and performance. I sense that underneath your somewhat conflicting and rambling post you are a fan of the sport and appreciate what the girls do to get where they are - I think many of those who read here (including me) could identify with that.
On the off chance that you were calling for more discussion - I was very impressed with how far Ashleigh has progressed. Chloe was an absolute joy to watch on and off the apparatus - damn her stupid broken foot! Dasha (and Vlad) added some spark, Lauren was terrific as usual but I thought we would see her DTY again. I was disappointed for Nikki (and for me as I was very much looking forward to seeing her compete) - hope she is fit for trial 2 - if that is possible. MAM was better than I remember but I have trouble getting excited about her routines. Emily did her job as usual and it was great to see her new routines. GRB is lovely - especially on bars and floor - missed her beam. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKYOU TO ALL INVOLVED!!!!

Mez said...

From what I saw in videos, I could see Katie W, Dasha or GRB getting the Carol Sussman artistry award.

So stunning.

angela's beam.
stunning. best in australia i'd say. i hope she wins finals.
go angela :)

Anonymous said...

I LOOOOOVVVVEEEEEE Dasha's floor and for that matter I love Dasha lol :) The world has GOT to see her floor routine. Does she have any hope what-so-ever of making this team? For some reason she reminds me of Khorkina. Anyone else?

Anonymous said...

Agree. Angela is very pretty to watch on beam.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Mez, the Sussman award is for artistry in the National Levels, not elite.

Mez said...

Damn!

(I could have sworn Dasha won it one year?)

Mez said...

ps for anyone wondering if I've been deleting comments...

I haven't.

Not a single one yet during this championships, except for some spam messages that have got through.

My apologies if there is an error with Blogger accepting your messages because it's certainly not coming from my end.

Anonymous said...

Am I the only one who doesn't like dashas floor?

Anonymous said...

They have an artistry award for levels and elite.

Anonymous said...

No your not the only one, don't like her floor music and the sultry moves. Didn't appreciate her attitude at one of Australisa most important comps in 4 years. A diva that's fr sure. That video will played all over the world and won't do her any favours.

Anonymous said...

I find it very interesting how AB who has not been an AA gymnast for a number of years now and is known for having weak bars, wins over EL who has been one of our top AA gymnasts for at least the last couple of years. It seems too obvious that this was planned and scores were inflated to reflect that. It will be interesting to see come the Olympics if AB receives similar scores. I would think not , for bars especially . Never mind EL ,I'm sure Peggy will pick you for the AA title next year. You must be next in line!

Anonymous said...

I think there's always a bit of over-scoring at domestic competitions. Just reading about the USA Secret Classic being held atm, seems some readers are commenting on the same over there. So I think it's safe to say the scores at Olympics will be lower.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 10.21... Leave your ilinformed biased comments out west. It is what it is and look at the scoreboard. I would not think team EL would appreciate your snipe at her teammate

Anonymous said...

Is there anyway to follow live scores on the Apparatus finals today and will the juniors scores be put up?

Anonymous said...

Anon 1.00pm: not from the West by the way and just an opinion that I think many others feel but won't voice. Many others have also commented on the inflated E scores.

Anonymous said...

I agree, as a Victorian I support all Vwhpc girls but i believe Emily is a better AA

Mez said...

Can anyone code-savvy tell me what it would be worth for Emily to get the full twisting double lay on floor? Does it boost her score by all that much vs the piked full in (one would hope so)!

Anonymous said...

Cannot find a single routine of Emily Little on youtube - any links please?

Mez said...

Emily's vault and beam at on YT if you search her name (in quotation marks).

I did find her floor as well but it was untitled and untagged. Now I can't recall which channel had it.

Anonymous said...

Wheres best to look for scores from the apparatus finals? Did they not start at 2pm?

Mez said...

They put a photo on facebook saying it's "underway" but nothing is coming through at twitter...

Anonymous said...

Just so bad, not even lists of which girls are competing which apparatus :(

Anonymous said...

still no info? arrrggghhhhh!

Anonymous said...

Well a photo of Ash is up so I guess she is in the bars final, but we can sit and wait for scores. A participant list would be sharing to much by GA!

Anonymous said...

Junior bars - Tamika Jones 1st,
Kiara Munteneu 2nd, Georgia Godwin 3rd

Anonymous said...

Junior beam - Georgia Godwin 1st, Tamika Jones 2nd,

Anonymous said...

Not sure bout seniors, juniors on floor next, currently warming up

Anonymous said...

Thank you for posting junior results.
Have the seniors competed on anything yet? Are their scores being displayed or is this secret squirrel so Peggy can adjust them as she so desires.
Arghhhh so frustrating Gymnastics Australia!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

sorry got a friend in the crowd texting me the scores, will ask how the seniors are going

Anonymous said...

Thank you!

Mez said...

GA have just updated that they're having tech issues.

Source just told me Larrissa Miller counted a fall on bars.

Anonymous said...

Junior floor - looks like Kiara 1st ,Georgia Godwin 2nd

Anonymous said...

Who came 3rd on junior floor and beam?

Anonymous said...

"Tech issues"
So predictable of GA!!!

Anonymous said...

Junior vault- Georgia Godwin 1st 14.05, Tamika Jones 2nd 13.725, Kiara Munteneu 3rd 13.65

Anonymous said...

Tech issues just get a phone and jump on twitter ..come on

Anonymous said...

I think the "tech issues" are they cannot display the scores until Peggy does a review and likes the results.
They would all have phones and if the scores had been displayed soeone would have shared them by now.

Anonymous said...

The scores are displayed at National Championships and WG selection trials - do not fear some Peggy conspiracy theory. Text someone you know at the comp to text you the results. If you at these events you would be able to verify this!

Anonymous said...

Anon 12.27am
Thanks for the link, just love this girls style :)

Anonymous said...

Scores are up, very interesting. Can't wait to see the vidoe's!

Anonymous said...

Just checked ut GA's coverage. Nearly every post is prefaced with 'due to technical issues...' or 'due to video issues...' What the hell? How hard is it to send scores via mobile especially since they obviously have the capability to upload photos (which are beyond terrible, they really shouldn't bother if it's going to be so poor in quality)!

Anonymous said...

Lauren's floor was way overscored IMHO. I love her gymnastics but tonight it was labored and didn't really deserve the score. How did Larissa get onto the bars final if she didn't compete day 1?

Anonymous said...

Larrissa wasn't in the bars final according to the results.

Mez said...

Ok, well, I guess this was a misidentification then. ;)

Anonymous said...

No it was not a misidentification, Larissa definitely did bars tonight and had a fall not sure why there was no result.

Anonymous said...

Unofficial competitor maybe?

Anonymous said...

GA has technical issues which means they cant have updates made on facebook
yet they tell us on facebook???

Anonymous said...

yeh exactly it makes no sense whatsoever

Anonymous said...

so who will we see at camp? any thoughts,

Anonymous said...

I would be guessing

Larrissa
Lauren
Emily
Mary-Anne
Georgia Rose
Ashleigh
Chloe
Dasha
Angela
Georgia B

Which leaves 2 spots for any of:

Katie
Georgia Wheeler
Amaya
Nikki (health permitting)
Zoe Lorenzin
Georgia Simpson (health permitting)
Olivia Vivian

It is such a tight squeeze. They really should be taking 15 since so few are doing AA. Shar-Lee, Natasha Hammann are both no shot. I am really sad that so many will be cut, there are some beautiful gymnasts on the maybe list.

Anonymous said...

Katie Wurth may not be the strongest competitor out there, but I just love her floor routine! Good on her for bringing some spunk into the gym- not everyone has to do a classical set!
Can't wait to see the videos of app finals. Especially beam- Angela Donald must have really showed what she can do:)

Anonymous said...

Whan will we know who makes camp

Anonymous said...

Yeh Katie is the bomb. Finally someone who has a bit of originality and flair. Hope she sticks around even if she doesn't make the O team, because she is a real asset to our national squad. She also has a lot of potential on beam and floor and if she could get a clean run without injuries she could be a contender. Also dug that she busted out the yurchenko 1.5 even if she didn't stand it up. At least she went for it.

The Couch Gymnast said...

Hi, I have done a report on apparatus finals if yr interested;

http://www.thecouchgymnast.com/?p=6518

I hope Mez doesn't mind me posting these links here.

Mez said...

No problem, at all, m'dear!

Anonymous said...

This is sounding like the Katie Wurth fan club but I really like her too. I know she didn't have a great comp but I hope she still gets the chance to go to the camp. I think she has huge potential and the experience would really help her.

Anonymous said...

Couch gymnast mentioned she has not heard of Tiahn Prestery from NSW before tonight. Do any gym fans notice NSW? Tiahn is a beautiful gymnast who has been around for a few years, with Desnee Ritchner, Celeste Loo, Alicia Lai, Madeleine Nedov etc.

The Couch Gymnast said...

I have never been to a Nationals or a non-Vic States before. Kinda hard to get to know the gymnasts. I certainly noticed Celeste this weekend too. I am trying to keep track of all international gymnasts!!!!
