Hi guys.

Just got word from The All Around that the standings from the WAG team qualification in Stuttgart went thusly:

1. AUS 110.350 (!!!!!)
2. GER 106.250
3. RUS 105.950
4. NED 105.200
5. SUI 100,500
6. AUT 99.500

See a results pdf here. Lauren scored phenomenally on beam while Nikki rocked the second highest start scores on beam and bars (of the team).

Gymnastics WA have put up some of Desiree Jones' photos from the training gym on Facebook. Like their page and check 'em out!

Did u look at the results. Nikki's start score on beam is 5th highest

Yes, but there are really no Big contenders there.
Lauren would be the biggest .Good experience though.

Sorry, I meant out of the team!

I have all the apparatus standings on my post. Austrlia topped al- Rissa bars, Emily vault, Lozza floor and beam.

Nikki competed a 5.9 BB at Gymnix earlier this year. She is a darkhorse for 2012, especially given she is from WAIS and the chances of her having a DTY by then are very high.

According to Couch Gymnast, it has'nt been the best of comps. With all the big names out you would expect Australia to do well.It will be interestimg to see how Emily does in the AA Couch gymnast said that she had issues on Beam and Floor. If Lauren is having issues with her feet, why did she miss bars?

Dear Anon 10:05 After Team Qual, Nikki was 10th on BB not 5th.
Bars:LM(larrissa)1st,NC 5th, EL 6th
BB LM(Lauren)1st, EL 9th, NC 10th
V EL 1st, LM 8th, NC 9th
FX LM 1st, EL 9th, NC 14th
NC may have had a 5.9 at Gymnix but that has gone down by the looks and she has had a lot of comp exp since then. Where did she place at Gymnix? Not that outstanding, to be saying she may be a dark horse for 2012.There could be a few girls in that position.

Nikki competed a 5.4 BB and 4.7 bar at gymnix and placed 10th in the AA. Not 5.9 on BB. Not having a go at Nikki, she has done very well. But Anon 3:24pm Get you facts correct! Lots of girls say they are doing DTY in training, doing it in comp is another thing.

There has been talk of Nikki competing a DTY for two years and it hasn't happened yet.

I though Lauren wasn't doing AA because of her injury but the only apparatus she isn't doing is the one where her injury should not hold her back.

Anyway well done to the girls it is a great effort, the competition may be fairly weak, although Russia has two of their worlds team members there at short notice but the Aussie girls can't do anymore than they have done.

I don't think Nikki has ever competed a 5.9 on Beam.

Apart from Vault, Emily was'nt that outstanding either considering she is our AA girl in the comp. Lauren would have walked it in.

It must be because her bars isn't her strongest, maybe she wasn't getting her skills consistent enough for competition?
WAIS is going very well at the moment
I believe Nikki has a shot at London but there are a lot og HPC girls that will fight for it too

All girls in the current GA/AIS Olympic squad have a shot at London. A bit early to start saying who is a dark horse etc. So many things determine who will be eligable to be selected next year. It's still a long way off.Lots of girls on the squad have similar or better D scores.I would say there are a few who are middle of the pack at the moment, the same as Nikki, who have not had the chance yet to compete due to various reasons.Emily will need to improve on Beam and Floor for the AA, think she was in 4th position after Qual.

Yes,I agree. There are 12 girls on the squad and all have a chance, not just the ones on assignments at the moment.

Who are the twelve?

Results DTB CHN 1st

RUS 3rd
AUS 4th LM
SUI 5th
NED 6th
GER 7th
AUS 8th EL
So Lauren did compete in AA. She looked very unhappy when she finished on Bars. Hope she was OK. Looked like she was in pain. Not the best comp for her.A very deep squat on floor and fall on Beam.Emily's execution seems to let her down. But good experience for her doing AA.

Not all girls on the GA/Olympic squad are in contention for the Olympics as some are way too young. A very strange set up. I would have thought the Olympic squad would only have 2012 Olympic candidates at this time.

There is a 2016 Olympic Team to be developed in the next 4 years.

The AIS squad changes every 6 months. You would need to look at the girls in the senior national squad at the start of 2012 as those are the girls that will be age eligible. Not all the current AIS squad are age eligible

This is a pretty tough comp. Having to compete 3 days in a row.Good luck to the girls for Team finals. Are there Apparatus awards for individuals? We may have a chance for some medals there.

How long til Lauren can rest those ankles??

Anonymous said...

Australia will need to lift there game to stay on top in the Team Finals. The Germans are looking very strong after last night. Our girls looked a little tired. But then they hav'nt had a lot of rest in between and have to travel a long distance. Hope the girls travelling on to France will cope.

I thought I read somewhere that Lauren is competing in Mexico after this?

Mez - the fx routines from Emily and Lauren have popped up here
http://www.youtube.com/user/rodolfocrazybrasil#

I don't know their scores, it looks like Lauren might have sat down her Arabian? Not sure if her bum touched the floor.
I thought Emily looked quite laboured during her routine, but I think they didn't arrive much before competing, maybe she was a bit jet-lagged?

Anon 9:25 - Yes but there is a 2012 team first and most of these girls will be the 2016 group as well. A lot can happen in 4 years and i am sure we will see many changes. At this moment in time we need to focus on 2012 to make ourselves competitive, the young 2016 will get their time in due course, we don't need to burn them out yet.

OK, coach.

when is our lack of vaulting difficulty as a nation going to be addressed and subsequently updated?? why do we struggle so much with this apparatus?

Anonymous said...

^ er, I meant upgraded ;)

I think the downgrading of the Y1.5 from 5.5 to 5.3 has discouraged people from that vault. Unless they can do a DTY most choose just to do an FTY. When the Y1.5 was worth 5.5 Australia seemed to have more Y1.5s DTYs are hard and the vault can be dangerous If the gymnast is not comfortable with it. The other option is more non Yurchenkos but I dontknow if that will solve the problems.
