Don't get too excited yet ... Gymnastics is not an automatic sport ... We need to make sure it's selected as one of the host nation's choices ;)))

I think given Australia's decorated history in it (notably the success of QLD gymnasts in past teams), and the fact it's one of the most watched sports every CommGames... it HAS to be in there!

Can only hope they who make the decisions see the wisdom in selecting gymnastics as a sport for 2018 - GOLD MEDALS!!!
There are a lot of young Qld gymnasts - especially boys, who will be motivated by this :) Let's make sure we get the best coaches and training programs to get them there!!!!

I would be very surprised if gymnastics was left out as Australia has dominated since 1998 and gymnastics rates very well.

Does the Gold Coast have an indoor arena suitable for gymnastics? I hope GA pushes the gymnastics agenda in prep for the Comm Games, both in funding and in development programs. It's a great opportunity for GA to promote the sport and attract publicity - I hope they capitalise on it.

How far away is the place where 2001 Goodwill Games gymnastics was held?

Goodwill Games were held at the Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank. They used the equipment from the Sydney Olympics the floor anyway.

From the bid site:

Southport Broadwater Parklands
The Southport Broadwater Parklands will provide a unique hub for a variety of sports throughout the Games.

At the northern end of the Parklands it is proposed to purchase and construct a temporary venue to accommodate the sport of Gymnastics and to host either the finals of the Basketball or Netball competition. The venue will provide for a minimum of 7,500 spectators.

Seems like gymnastics is in.

Who would be eligible to compete out of the gymnasts that are around now, any glimmering hopes?

Checkout the MG results for nationals 2011 ... My eyes would focus on the top 3 from each of the level 9&7 under boys and maybe even the 6 unders too!! see how many of them are Queensland!!! Such a strong group of young men ... Now with incentive to shine in their home state!!!
