Mitchell Missing from Maribor

Looks like Lauren Mitchell won't be making the journey to Slovenia for the Maribor World Cup/Salamunov Memorial which takes place later in the coming week.

She does not appear listed in IG's latest article about the competition, nor does she appear on the definitive competitor list at the event's website.

One commenter has told us that she and Dasha were back in Canberra recently, performing routines for coaches doing a course. So we can presume she'll just be staying at home, perhaps making sure she's truly competition ready, if we are indeed going to see a new-look beam routine from her this season.

Intrigue and suspense ensue...

I was wondering about that because i was pretty sure i had hard she was going but her name isnt on the site for Maribor. Pity. I am still debating whether to go to that comp.

No Aussie girls apparently going to Moscow World Cup end of May either, although 2 MAG gymnasts are registered

She's probably going to Glasgow instead. Australia has one girl registered and it pretty much has to be Lauren.

When is Glasgow being held?

WAIS has her listed as going to Glasgow with Martine 17th May

Lauren will not be going as she has a niggling injury and is not ready to return to full training atm. Lauren, dasha and emily participated in the FIG coahes course as demonstrators last week not a judges course. Josh Jefferis is the only gymnast going to Moscow as Luke Wiwatowski snapped his Medial Colateral Ligment last week after slipping out of his straps in which ended his WC preparation.

Any way of substantially confirming this information, Anon?

I wish they wouldn't just cancel their participation. I am sure one of the Waverley girls or Amber would appreciate that assignment.

It is somewhat bizarre that Shona and Georgia have been key parts of the team since 2006 yet neither has attended a world cup.

GA funds some of them and surely they could pick someone different once in a while when that opportunity comes around, or at least have a reserve designated in advance for prep reasons. I find it hard to believe none of them would want to go or that they all are totally unready.

Maybe WAIS was paying for Lauren to go to world cup this time. I think WAIS paid for Dasha and Lauren to go to Moscow last year.

Shona and Georgia have both been very consistent for Australia and were fantastic in Beijing. But I think when GA sends gymnasts to world cup they want medals. Shona and Georgia are both good on beam but unless they could medal on that apparatus then they would probably struggle to medal. Lauren has medalled on both beam and floor at the last two world cups in Stuttgart and of course won the world cup final last year. I think Dasha has won medals at something like six of the seven world cups she has been to. I think normally only one or two gymnasts go to each world cup.I do think that Shona and Georgia deserve more international competitions though.
