Pop Quiz, HotShot.

General question, just throwing it out there:

Would YOU pursue the reading of, or the subscription to, Australian Gymnast magazine (or something running with such a titular theme but perhaps under a different...titular...) if it were resurrected?

Yes! And can it include features on clubs and gymnasts and what they are doing. I wish clubs would provide links and more up to date information.

Will we be able to subscribe to it online?

100% - i would love a mag - i think i have mentioned it on your blog before that it would be great to see or maybe it was on the message board - can't remember.

"TEN" was a great magazine. Took out a one year subscription. Received my first copy. They stopped publishing it. No refunds offered to subscribers. Bad Gymnastics Australia.

without a doubt!

For sure!

I would definitely subscribe to the magazine. It is long overdue in Australia.

Absolutely. Australia should have its own gymnastics magazine. I'm sure there's a market for it.

I'd love an Aussie magazine - I still have all my old copies of Ten.

I would defnitely purchase the magazine, but I probably wouldn't subscribe to it - not after hearing that subscribers weren't refunded when the Ten magazine was cancelled.

Why should GA keep my money if they choose to cancel the magazine?

So unless GA guaranteed subscriber refunds in the instance that they choose to cancel the magazine, I would purchase it on an issue by issue basis.

One cannot have their cake and eat it too.

I'm guessing the problem was with the cost of producing the magazine versus the number of subscriptions. GA isn't very good at marketing (and that's being polite), plus I don't think there are enough die hard gym fans in Australia to support the publishing costs.

Wolfie I have to say that when TEN was cancelled I was offered a refund by GA so I'm not sure if that original info is entirely accurate. I remember it very distinctly.

I was just wondering.

I have a pipe dream of taking part in a resurrected Australian gymnastics magazine. Not overseeing it, of course (I don't have the qualifications for that), but contributing in some way. I think it would do really well. I was sad to see Somersault fold, it had a lot of promise for Victorian fans and I hated not seeing Ten anymore. It was a great, into-the-new-millennium extension of Australian Gymnast.

Frogman generously lent me a whole pile of copies of AG/Ten at the VWHPC Open Day and they were a fantastic little chunk of nostalgia. I loved looking at the results pages and seeing top seniors journey up the scoreboard through the junior ranks.

I miss the celebration of Aussie athletes in print and, of course, the great action photographs.

Our gymnasts get media training for a reason!

I would definitely subscribe to it, but just a bit of food for thought........If the production costs are so high, why not have an e-magazine. That way there are none (or very few) production costs and you would still have to either pay weekly or subscribe to an online gymnastics magazine.

Thanks Nade.

If that's the case, then I would DEFINITELY subscribe. :-)

I think the problem with Somersault was that it was too limited - it was only for Victoria and a magazine needs to be nationwide when it already has a selected audience.

What about one for us here in NZ also? Could NZ be included?

Mez said...

People, I'm not starting up the bloody thing (not in the near future anyway)!

I'm just doing a bit of personal market research and working out what the demand for such a publication is. Just for reference.

And yes, I wouldn't mind seeing an NZ section either.

Mez, you did say "I have a pipe dream of taking part in a resurrected Australian gymnastics magazine".

So that suggests you would like to have something to do with it, right?

Just sayin' ...... :-)

I said 'taking part' in any resurrected publication, yes. I would very much like to take part in one. That doesn't necessarily imply I currently have a say in getting one happening, or WHEN one would get happening IF it did.

I was interested to find out if you all wanted a magazine. Because I want one, too (I've wanted one to be in circulation for a while now) and would like to be a part of one if the concept was ever brought to life again. That's all.

Wolfie said...

Ah, but all I was opining was that you want more than just a poll of interested subscribers - you actually do want to be part of it.

In any case, just do it, Mez! It won't happen otherwise.

And here's a tune to get you thinking:

Yes I'd love to see a magazine like this. I hope it would include younger gymnasts perhaps down to level 3 as well. I'd also like basic information on skill development at each level and even a glossary on the names of various skills. An e-zine with video clips to show what a backflip-found-off thingie (just as an example) looks like in real life would help us novice parents a lot.

Hell I would be happy if it was just a simple thing like what Gymnastics Australia well really their new division called AUSCHEER has going. They have a monthly Nationwide based 'magazine' available online called Cheer Space. I find it interesting to read and hope it gets better with time.

YES MOST DEFINATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It could have updates on the national and state programs (and those gymnasts)
as well as the international elite girls
there would be a huge market for that sort of thing.

Yes, yes, YES!
