My camera phone didn't do this moment justice. There were four Level 2 boys sitting on a crashmat together when their session was over, like birds on a wire, looking tiny and adorable (especially when they ALL were resting their heads on their chins).
Videos are very slowly on their way! If you haven't done so already, check out MistySakura's.

Is that leo Georgia and Shona are wearing the same one Nastia wore to 96 Nats?
Brinds
u mean 2006 - it certainly looks the same :)
Nichole
Man I'm so upset that Amber didn't qualify for nationasl. Still can't believe it.
Close! Nastia had it in a black body. Waverley has it in blue.
It's very pretty under lights.
The National 9 team also had a nice white, pink and purple leo.
(You can see both leos in this document: http://www.wagc.com.au/resultsvics2009.pdf)
So Amber can't go to nationals now?
Amber didn't reach the qualifying scores, that's for sure.
Since she didn't vault, she didn't meet the AA minimum, and if you're not an AAer you have to qualify as an event specialist by scoring over 14.0 on UBB/BB/FX which she didn't do either, so it looks like she can't go.
What a ridicukous rule. Wouldn't you want as many gymnasts as possible at nationals, gaining as much experience as possible? It's not as though Australia has gymnasts lining up down the street.
The only seniors that qualified are:
Shona Morgan
Fiona Coley
Britt Greeley
Natasha Hammann
Lauren Mitchell
For VT Melanie Jones should get approved by the SMC.
Pretty disappointing really, especially having no seniors at all from Queensland.
But surely Amber and the other QLD gymnasts will get to qualify at QLD states?
Why6 did I say 96! Hahaha yes 2006 I meant
Annaleise Varga from grips gymnastics is a senior and she qualified as well.
Queensland states are held in a few weeks. It seems the QAS girls are planning to qualify there.
QLD states is only a week or so before nationals and qual scores are due 1 months before nats, so no.
Well since this is a discussion about selection I was wondering if anyone could clarify this for me.
Ashley Cooney (WA) and Chloe Turko (Vic) are both listed as being part of their state teams, yet Cooney only competed bars at the trials and Chloe Turko didn't attend Vics or any of the trials. How can they have qualified?
I heard the gymnast's programs can submit an injury/special circumstances petition for any gymnast that did not qualify to who ever makes those decisions. Amber was injured for most of the year with a hamstring injury, that is why she is still not doing vault I assume, Ashley Cooney has had an ongoing foot/leg? problem, so I think that is probably what the coaches will do. I can't see why the petitions would not be accepted. Same with Emma Dennis (vault only) and Georgia Bonora (beam only). Maryanne Monckton has a foot issue, Naomi Lee has not qualified yet due to a sore elbow I think. Chloe Turko had shoulder surgery and will not be at Nationals. I heard Mel Jones has decided to go to college in America and I am not sure about Victoria Williams's status.
So are Mary-Anne and Naomi petitioning then?
Ashley Cooney is awaiting a decision from GA on whether she can compete bars only. She has been injured so that might be why she can request it. I hope it is allowed. I don't understand why the girls have to qualify all apparatus anyway. I would have thought if an athlete has a high enough score on even one apparatus to be competitive then it lowers the value of the medals if they are not allowed to compete.
I completely agree. Monica Sloane from NSW has a 4.8 UB routine, which is one the the highest of all the juniors, but because of a 4.0 VT instead of the minimum 4.4 she's out.
I know she was attending some extra trials so hopefully she found a way to bust out a LO yurchenko or something and get past the ridiculous standards.
And its not even like she is sub-par as an AAer either, she was well above the minimum AA score every time he trialled.
I hope the mystery of Natalia Joura and Georgia Simpson can be solved soon too. I hope they haven't quit. Otherwsie seems WAIS has gone form tons of elites to just a meager few in a matter of months, which is sad.
Natalia Joura was listed to compete at both WA trials but didn't compete at either. She has eitehr quit very recently or is injured I guess.
A list of junior and senior competitors on nationals on the GA website. Amber is on the list.
For those who can't be bothered:
Junior
Hiba Balout (NSW)
Georgia Rose-Brown (QLD)
Sophie Budack (NT)
Alexandra Byers-Armstrong (VIC)
Shar-lee Clark (QLD)
Emma Collister (VIC)
Rachel Collister (VIC)
Ashley Cooney (WA)
Chiara Della Marta (NSW)
Tierra Exum (VIC)
Amaya King Koi(QLD)
Emily Little (WA)
Zoe Lorenzin (VIC)
Amelia McGrath (VIC)
Mary-Anne Monckton (NSW)
Georgia Wheeler (VIC)
Senior
Fiona Coley (VIC)
Amber Fulljames (QLD)
Britt Greeley (VIC)
Natasha Hamman (SA)
Larrissa Miller (QLD)
Lauren Mitchell (WA)
Shona Morgan (VIC)
Annaleise Varga (VIC)
Crystal Yeo (SA)
Disappointed not to see Georgia and Emma. They could contend for the titles on the events they did at Vics. I wonder why they didn't petition.
The senior lineup is kind of dismal, not to take anything away from those competing, but it really doesn't reflect the quality of our seniors overall.
I guess there is a chance that Australia may not send four gymnasts to worlds
Wow! I am surprised not to see Melanie Jones, I was under the impression that she would try for worlds. She would almost be a shoo-in with 2 vaults.
Even if Georgia and Emma don't compete here, I don't think it will hurt their chances, as they will petition to worlds trials easily. When you think about there isn't that much sense in them forking out the $2,000 for the trip to compete 1 event in what is a relatively quiet, unimportant year in the scheme of things.
I am quite surprised to see Mary-Anne on the list, I was under the impression she only just recently began training again.
I think we will send 4 gymnasts to worlds, witohut doubt. I think, assuming a good recovery, Georgia, Shona and Lauren are almost guaranteed, with Georgia and Shona as the AAers and Lauren BB/FX. That leaves a spot open for a vaulter or an UBer (which is why I am so surprised about Melanie, even if the AAers change, there will always be a VT spot open for her). Britt/Amber/Emma will likely only make it if they are looking better than Gerogia/Shona/Lauren in AA since you can only have 3 girls per event.
In fact, if I was Emma Dennis right now, I'd be training the DTY and a second VT once recovered because that would be essentially her best chance by far to get on the team.
Will Georgia be ready for AA? She only competed beam at Vic states. I know she has got four months but maybe Lauren is an AA chance but I think she would be better as a beam/floor specialist. I am very surprised too about Melanie Jones. The fourth person almost has to be on vault or bars and there are not too many who have those as their best apparatus.
To Anon 8:08 PM and anyone who is interested; Natalia Joura and Georgia Simpson have definitely NOT quit. They are both on modified training although I do not know the exact nature of the injuries. They train the same the same hours as they always have and I'm sure will be back before too long. Whatever the injuries are they are not obvious (no casts/crutches) so I wouldn't be too worried.
Larrissa Miller is a solid all-arounder who just happens to excel on bars. If she does well at nationals and in Japan, she might just scoop up that fourth ticket.
Well maybe GA have rethought their Junior requirements as, under the current listed requirements, Ashley Cooney and Rachel Collister would not have qualified and Ameila McGrath has only trialled for Inter 10 and i don't think has enough in her bars to qualify for Junior - so not sure if that is a typo or not. I haven't seen Maryanne's names on any trial lists. so if they have relaxed the requirement at least that gives these girls some competition experience even if they are not doing all four apparatus - which, given how few comps we have here at these levels, is probably more important than wether they win or not.
I heard that Rachel Collister qualified at a control test before vics
I understand that Emma Dennis will not be going to Nats because it is not worth spending $2,500 (yes, that is the cost for the Victorians) to compete just one apparatus and I read on the gosiip board that Emma has received no funding from GA.
It is probably a good decision anyway if it allows her to refine her vaulting. Let's hope her no-show at Nationals doesnt mean she cannot trail for Worlds.
Emma is definitely out of favour with GA, she did not get the money from the Australian Sports Commission for next years Commonwealth Games because she was not in the olympic squad at the time.
I do think it is good to have the nationals in Perth for a change. I am sure it is not cheap for them to come to the East Coast every year. Although the one time they do have nationals they don't have that many competitors.
Yeh, WA is suprisingly weak in elite this year. While they have a team of Int 6s, they have no Int 8s, only 1 Int 10, only 1 junior competing AA (Cooney just bars) and only 1 senior. I know they have quite a talented Int 10 in Jamison Ruscoe but I'm not sure why she's not competing.
I thought I heard that Chloe qualified when MLC had their tour at the start of the year, im not sure about Ashleigh maybe she qualified at her youth olympics trial??? just some thoughts? not sure on whether they are right or not.
Does anyone know the log in for the Timothy Burgess Website for the photos of the Vic Championships?
The log in for Vics photos is "champions". Warning - it's a nightmare to navigate as all photos are dumped purely by session so can take ages to load.
